Yes - I love Lorikeets. By default. My daughter rescued one and $1000 later after surgery and antibiotics and more surgery, she is not releasable. But an absolute joy. We will take up the carpet and lay timber. Such is the joy that she provides - OK - no DNA done to tell sex, but we are assumng. She was wild 7 months ago. Now talks, and has a great sense of bird humour, and plays games. Flies free inside, showers with me. I am getting a harness - aviator seems the best? And how intelligent are birds? This has been a real learning curve for us. But the interactive fun that she provides. A gentle brave spirit. Survived being found by aHad steel pins inserted into her leg, then removed later, Now she rules the house. Humans used to equate brain size with intelligence. There is a very small brain here that is SO smart it is humbling.....
So cute! I am in Fauna Rescue and often have to care fore these lovely birds when they get into trouble. I have 2 lorikeets of my own which I can't release because they can't fly properly.
You shouldn’t ever try to pick up a bird like that. It will break trust with your bird because you can scare him/her. You should look up how to hold your pet bird...
@mrsbirdlady, hi pm me i found a baby that was kicked out cant fly and i dont know if hes old enough to eat on his own, what will he eat, will he eat what my sun conure eats?
You're grabbing at him don't do that thats why he's not co operating birds get scared and confused when you grab at them try putting your hand out instead don't force him to do anything birds lose trust and get anxious very easily and quickly
I'm wondering, he seems a sweet boy. However, your inter-action with him is not as "one" with the bird. Are you training from a human point of view, or from his? It's much easier if you are in harmony with his gifts. Try it. Perhaps that is why he is not cooperating and so anxious. Try training as if you were him for-a-day. *:)
I love lorikeets I especially love their little toungue when they drink nectar
these lorikeets are smarter than other pets
