The side conversations and tangents are god tier pieces of content. This is hands down my favorite podcast I listen to/watch. Gems of knowledge throughout and hilrious content from each of you. Such a refreshing feeling every time.
On paper it sounds nerdy as hell but man to me this is like high level content for audio junkies. Entertaining but I also learn and get inspired. Between this and some other outlets, my mixes are better. My masters even although I still love to send it to the goat of Vancouver WA Kevin Nettleingham
I literally just in the last two days finally had a breakthrough and my tracking mixing and mastering. All three are difficult to learn and master but I am learning all three at the same damn time at the same damn time
I tried to deep dive study mastering for years and I love it but the more time goes by I find myself mixing with a good transparent limiter on the master track and try to accomplish most the sound in the MIX. Maybe I should be using God Particle in that case 🤔🤷 (also the band iMayday! has amazing mixes for references. Bengineer Cybulsky has mixed/mastered a HUGE chunk of all the Strange Music artists and songs. One of the most underrated engineer ever imo) Devvon's face when he started battle raps got me dying laughing 😂😭
Mastering is a constant revolving door of processes. It's really hard to keep a consistent flow / process from record to record. Other than limiters, there's time where I have just an EQ and compressor, and other times I can have 6 to 7 plugins on one master. It really just depends on the music and the clients goal for the record. Its legit just like mixing. No chain is correct, but the goal is usually the same. Get it sounding the best it can no matter what you gotta do. Sometimes that's a little, sometimes that a lot!
Just went through the credits for Blxst's Before You Go album. It's mastered by Chris Athens, with Dave Huffman & Kurt Bradley. Mixed by Lance Powell & Blxst himself
Taught myself how to record mix and master in FL,so straightforward. Now regularly mix and master in pro tools. How could I reference mixing when things like Master Rebalance exist ? Mastering can change the mix,be hard to reference
33:40 might just be the funniest thing that I've ever heard anyone say ever, and will forever be in my #SlapBack memory, big shout out to DT! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Devvon, I watched your videos on beat recording a couple of years ago, I think you have improved your knowledge, could you make a new playlist, how to reduce the beat, process the voice, and do the mastering in stages, thank you
I just saw the title and haven't listened to it yet, but I say Master is harder because it all about your ears, and knowing the sounds of target platforms. It's like the difference between a guitar player and real master musician it's all about ears it takes great ears to be a great musician and the same with being a great Mastering engineer.
I got a bar for the engineer battle ❗️ Equalizer like denzel, you'll learn I'm the man quick . Get boosted and cut.. a killer hurtin(KHZ) ya bandwidth 😂🔥🔥
Mastering is hard because it's so easy to overdo-and subtlety is everything. It's gotten way easier to do 96% of the job tho. But mastering is ultimately final ear and opinion so it's not just creativity but consistency. I like sending naked mix bus to mastering engineer because he just gets the punch and sound I need with a mix of analog and digital gear. Shout out Kevin Nettleingham for making my SM57 stock Pro Tools 10 mix (+REQ, RVox) on "Get Myself Right" sound like the real deal. Props IWishIWasRyan for drum prog
Reaper does split item processing too and does it very well . its called Items processing. Just cut a clip and apply fx to any clip split. no need to send that to a seperate track or freeze(print) immediately.
I cannot stop watching this show. I had the podcast on for 10 hours straight on a road trip. Pretty sure my wife almost jumped out the whip doing a buck down the freeway
29:00 bruh on everything, I was thinking about “Pop bottles” by Jim Jones. Ron Browz is on there too. That song breaks my heart because the beat is so fire. The drums & synths sonically sound timeless, but the hook hurts to listen to. If it was in key, that song would be legendary man
yeah the song was ‘Pop Champagne’… fun fact thats who Jay Z was subliminal dissing in death of autotune… Ron Browz was quite ahead of his time in some ways, but the execution was entirely off
Here are some of the Reference tracks they were talking about :) Blxst - Still Omw 6LACK - Balenciaga Challenge Kirk Franklin - Love Theory BAD BUNNY x DRAKE - MÍA Eric Bellinger - Only You
Looked up the credits for “Still Omw” and see that Blxst himself is the mix engineer/producer 🤯Chris Athens (who’s mixed a lot of my personal favorite sounding Drake/Young Money records) did the mastering.
Did anyone understand that other song he was talking about? Something like "Moody Long - When I Wanna Break My Heart Again" or something. Can't seem to find anything.
Russ produced and composed (in ableton) and got his “there’s really a wolf album” which went certified platinum. Courtney you ain’t alone. #ableton gang
Mastering is actually easier if you know how to tweak parametric frequencies, compress, saturate, stereo image, limit, and fine tune, know your peak levels and you're good. It's actually easier and faster than mixing.

@@jobama1980😭
Thank you magix sequoia finally getting it's flowers 🌹. Been mixing and recording in magix over 20 years. That program is dope

Devvon's face when he started battle raps got me dying laughing 😂😭
Myself having Pro Tools, FL and Ableton…. FL BY FAR updates the most.
This is true I have all three also although I get tired of the update sometimes. I wish it would self-update like Ableton.
33:17 The funniest moment thus far lol. It reminds me of Diddy and the guy from American Idol 😂😂😂 34:00 This is Gold 😂😂😂

This was really good. Keep the bars coming!
I’ve been binge watching my Audio Nerds Podcast. It’s been fun!
Devvon's life flashinh before his eyes was something I didn't know I needed to see. That shit was hilarious 😂😂
I love this podcast. I don't even realize how much time has passed.
"I'm in a rapping mode,
I'm rapping whole episode."
Idk how but LJ gettin the final word before these ads hit. It happened like 3 times this video😂😂
Lol Devon looks like he getting ready to watch the notebook 😂 good stuff bro really taught me a lot
@13:23 Devvon became Mr.Krabs meme when LJ and Courtney tried to compare DAW as religion! xD. Wait we not gon skip the producer barz @18:14.
Devon pronouncing the W in “sword” was fucking me up Lmao
Lmaooooooooo
exactly 💀💀
L Jean is my inner producer voice
" Grab you by your master chain." I'm hooked, like a chorus.
lmao that engineer rap battle idea is fire hahaha yall snapped
I low-key dont like to refference mix. I often forget or pull in the reference halfway into mixing the song lol.
Y’all should take the MBTI personality quiz. I think Imma call it. Courtney is an ENFP, Devvon is an ISFJ, and LJ is an ESTP.
Finally.. An honorable mention for Magix Sequoia/Samplitude Pro. A GREAT mixing and mastering program.
Yup that’s why I love magix samplitude i been using them for years to record and mix and master
FL Studio has a mid/side monitor mode built in Parametric EQ2.
😂😂😂 One of my favorite episodes! The game given, but also the interactions with each other. Lol
😢love this one yall hit
22:56 WEVE BEEENN ABLE TO DO THAT IN REAPER YALL NEED TO STOP SLEEPIN ON US😤😤😂😂

That's wonderful! Pls stay in touch!
I freaking love this podcast
This has been the most entertaining music podcast ever 😂Devvon’s reaction @33:40 lol
Come over to reaper where you can oversample any plugin cause it’s built into the DAW.
DT quote , “are you Nutz!!????”🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yo has Courtney used Ableton Affidavit yet? Cause that would be Hard I’m ngl🤷🏾♂️
Reaper does split item processing too and does it very well . its called Items processing. Just cut a clip and apply fx to any clip split. no need to send that to a seperate track or freeze(print) immediately.

guys, every now and then you should bring up cubase too. your favorite movie-scores and pop songs were produced in cubase
mastering is like fine wine tasting
Devon was that your song on force episode 1 season 2??
Mastering is actually easier if you know how to tweak parametric frequencies, compress, saturate, stereo image, limit, and fine tune, know your peak levels and you're good. It's actually easier and faster than mixing.
I agree.people tend to overcomplicate and glorify things
Lj should be a ghostwriter
