Give mom a break. Yes she was embarrassed at the condition that the dog was in but she took a huge step to come to Dede, she seemed to be learning and will hopefully incorporate what she learned into her routine. Mom obviously didn't know what she was getting into with this dog, but she also didn't dump the dog when things got tough. Give her some love for what she learned, not making judgments. Dede, you're the best!

Agree, sometimes you just have to have faith in a situation. Mom said, at bath time, that Luna would let her bath her, but at the beginning of the video she said that the kids had to pick Luna up for her. The dog has been in the home long enough to trust a little bit, but if your not willing to take the time to learn, there will be trouble. Mom drove over an hour to get to Dede, and she knew what she was getting into. She wanted to learn so that she could enjoy her puppy (sorry, I don’t know any dogs, but I know a lot of puppies!), and she didn’t back down once! I think that because of Dede’s “training “, home is going to be a much happier place.

I wish the stand had a nice padded seat for their tummies to rest on. As it is, that contraption helps the groomer but the dog would be more comfortable and to me, that would help the dog to feel more like they were getting pampered.. you know like a warm, soft table that’s padded when you go to have a massage or something. Especially if it’s so painful to get the mats off.

I thought it was so important to involve the owner involved. They have no idea what your body going through in a regular day . Let alone when you have a challenge like this. Keeping dog parent in control helping them to help you!& see how challenging this situation is . To do they now know you got this & the dog owner or you won’t have to go through this again ! The pup was so happy after! That would make me mean . Lol

It’s really hard to read some comments about how it’s abusive. This lady is in the room with her dog, is explaining how shes TRIED to help keep the dog maintained and groomed, and isn’t at all treating the dog badly. Sometimes dogs just DONT LIKE BEING GROOMED. It’s hard to maintain a dog being groomed when they won’t even let you pick them up. You can’t be quick to judge people who are looking for help with their dog all matted. There have been dogs in this video just as bad as this dog, who were just dropped off in the grooming station and left there because they probably don’t care enough to help the dog. This lady is learning.

After you shaved the first half of the face the dogs entire demeanor changed! Tail wagging, panting stopped and the body position was more upright but relaxed. I wonder if mom noticed a difference once she got home with the dog. I would be willing to bet that the dog is not actually aggressive she was just acting out because of the pain and discomfort. I bet the dogs entire behavior will have changed as a result of what you have done for her. Nicely done.

Will make the grooming easier. Hopefully she follows through with the homework. Really great effort all around. Adorable little dog.

I don’t think the owner was neglectful as such. She said herself she was adopted and certain things the adoption stated were untrue for example her age. Her going to different groomers shows she’s trying to do right by the dog but got turned away. She was also stating how she could barely handle the dog at home let alone do a groom. With difficult dogs some people just need to be educated and clearly she wasn’t expecting this temperament in the dog. Instead of judging and trying to claim how long the dog has truly been matted for, just be great full that this dog isn’t in a kennel locked in a cage for most of his life or potentially even getting put to sleep due to her unsettling nature. What we should be doing is giving her advice on how to handle this situation better.

Wow Dede! That was an amazing groom!
First; in defense of pet momma. I do really think there was a lot she just didn't know. We don't know exactly what went on in that house. Mom said the dog would not even let her near her. Bonding and imprinting is hard when your dog isn't interested in you at all. We all do the best with the knowledge we have at the time. I don't think Dede was blaming or shaming mom at all. I think Dede was just telling the truth. And when mom learned how bad the problem was, she learned what she needed to change. Forgive the past, let's move on as better people. Now mom knows. I don't think any of the other Groomer's were as straight and clear with pet mom as Dede was here. But now they are all clear and on the same page, and now the healing can take place.
Best of luck pet mom, you are brave. Haters are gonna hate. As far as I am concerned, I am not judging you. Sometimes things get away from us. We are human. Now you know. I think Dede is brave to really bring people in and be given the chance to SEE how bad the problems can be. If you really were an evil person, you would not feel bad. You would not cry if you did not care about the dog.
Also, people need to realize that Dede is a gem. There are not people or Groomer's like her everywhere. I am learning a lot about leadership from Dede. The mom had to drive over an hour just to get there! She kept searching for the right person to help. And now they are all on track to a better quality of life for that pet.
    Bravo everyone!
Thank you pet mom, and Dede for allowing us in to see and learn from your experiences. Xoxo

Thank God that lady come in and adopted the dog and got it taken care of. even though she had to go through several different groomers till she sounded groomer that would get the job done. After watching the video, i breathed a sigh of relief for everybody, dog included. It was some production, and like you said, we look forward, dont look back. Get on track. I could see from the owners responses to your questions during the procedure, that she's been stressed and couldn't give detailed replies: used a lot of "um's" and "like", but few facts. Her mind was a little numb, like she's bracing herself for failure again, but, with directions firm and clear from you, she was able to assist with the grooming and got the dog where it needed to be. Good experience all the way around. And you comforted the owner: VERY good! Kindness is always the best way to go. You did a fine job, Girly!

Man. I can totally relate to this situation not with my dog, but with my son. He’s almost 16 and is autistic. His haircuts are exactly like this. Starts out ok, then starts losing patience...gets aggressive and me getting stressed. I have to hold my kids head, I’ve even had to sit on him. I went through all the emotions with this video. And no, I’m not comparing my son to an animal just the situation. Bravo to Mom and Dede for getting the job done! I feel the pet Mom. I drive 2 hours to get my kids hair cut because the lady that does it is the only one I’ve found that can handle his shenanigans. NEVER forget these people during the holidays! Dede, you are one AMAZING person! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Crystal White I am so sorry you have to go through this I would think it would be harder with the human. But I’m glad you’re human doesn’t have teeth like this animal dies. If you want to try to do this haircut at home with your autistic child here are some ideas I’m I have for you. I’m going off the wall here because I’ve never groomed and autistic human. But. It can be challenging. Artistic people think and patterns I believe. So lay out a grid with tape on the floor I know this sounds weird. But the chair in the center of the room in the center of tape. Hang in front of the person some kind of plastic like a shower curtain and draw a grid or something on it. Something for the human to focus On wall whomever is giving the haircut. Right numbers in the boxes. Whoever is Grooming the human needs to call that number is well here she is grooming the human. He needs to be a task as well as productive haircutting. Do you know what I mean? Please give it a try do it on video so I can see what’s happening and I can make better tweaks to the idea maybe I can make It a smooth her job. Thanks for watching appreciate you

Dede Croy THAT is a fantastic idea! I’ll work with him at home and maybe make something more portable for the hairdresser. Maybe use iPad and do a count down clock? He’s obsessed with time and when the haircut is going to be over! You’ve got the wheels turning in my head now! Thank you so much! I love how you think outside of the box. It gets pretty overwhelming sometimes. ❤️

Crystal White my twin brothers are 12 and they’re autistic too. I drive about 90 min out of town to get a haircut. I found a lady that is really patient with them and they’re used of her now. Is totally worth the drive. She gives them a tablet to let them play games and that’s how they get entertain. She talks to them a lot too so they get distracted in some way. Hugs to you and your son.

This isn't about being on camera, this is about being a responsible pet owner. She was fine in the beginning, talking about about calming her down with Melatonin. From watching this video, the pet owner doesn't do what's healthy for the pet. There was a baby carrot sized GOB of matted hair and eye discharge that was claimed to have been cleaned 3 months ago. Dede even said at the end, that there was no way it was 3 months. Communicating with Vets, Vet assistants, and groomers is KEY for the health and safety of your pet. Of course it's stressful. I totally agree. However, if doing what you need to do for any pet stresses someone out, perhaps they aren't ready to have one.

It makes sense that holding tight on the chin hair helps. With horses there is a thing called a twitch. the nose and chin of a horse is full of all sorts of nerve endings and when they twitch a horse they put pressure on the nerve endings and that trigger a release of endorphins into the body

I give props for mom bringing the dog in. If she didnt care she would have kept the dog matted. Its a lot of work to keep on top of grooming shitzus. I can tell she felt bad for the dog being that way. She prob didnt have money to keep taking the dog to the groomers and decided to groom the dog herself. With the dog not liking being groomed in the face she prob just gave up and did what she could. I used to have a shitzu so boy do i understand. Its hard to just say to yourself ok maybe I need to give her to someone who has time and money because I cant afford to keep up with grooming. Esp when you got so much love to give. I'm a new groomer and I absolutely love this video! People, this is real. This is how it can go. I see so many videos that are the most docile and calm dogs that make it seem as if grooming though is a breeze. Its work. Hard work! At the end of the day, sometimes you feel like you been beat up and hung out to dry. I'm not complaining, just want pet parents to know that you pay a premium because of all that goes into grooming. Just keeping it real. 😊🐕

Unfortunately, this only delays the inevitable. Videos like this are what helps dog owners get to the groomer before it's too late.

DeDe - This was an awesome video! It seems the more you worked with the dog removing the mats, knots, dirt and eye gunk, the more calm and happy the dog got. I especially love the end of the groom and the bath with the dog wagging her tail as if to say "See, I'm not really mean and nasty. I was just very uncomfortable and hurting with all this stuff going on." It looks like you even removed feces that were matted into her fur. Wonderful job! Good on you. I hope you get to do a follow-up with this one so we can see how life changing a good thorough grooming and cleaning can be for a pet. Thanks.

Which honestly most of the “aggressive” dogs she’s posted videos on aren’t aggressive, they’re responding to being choked out and mishandled by this groomer and her “assistants” which are just untrained pet parents.

What a professional and compassionate person this dog groomer is! You can tell that she really understands the nature of the dog and it's owner! The owner of this dog was having so many 'regrets' of ever having given this dog a 'forever home' because the dog was impossible to groom! And, like she said, "she had no history on the dog and thought the dog was much younger than it was", but the reality of it is, the dog was much older and apparently had been through a lot and has a lot of emotional problems!
Everything here has worked out great for the pet and the owner who learned so much on how to care for her dog! I truly believe that the owner was close to giving up on the dog and may have had thoughts to give it back to the shelter in hopes that it would be adopted by someone else!
This groomer did everything right and in the best interest of the dog and its owner! Excellent job! I can see why this groomer and her staff would have people travel from far away to come for their services -- they are very good at what they do!

Initially I felt like the last was lying about the growth being three months. But after realizing she was a little afraid of the dog and that she had only had the dog for a year, I can believe that she took her to a groomer. She never said the dog got properly groomed. I think there soon was difficult and the groomers she visited weren't able or willing to really do the hard work. Part of me even believes they told her all they could do is trim the length of the hair a little bit. This woman didn't even know the real age of the dog. Also, looks like she could've been making it worse by trying to bathe the dog and improperly washing the dog's face.

So I'm just finishing the entire video lol. The lady drove over an hour, so I know she cared. I don't think the dog was properly groomed when she adopted the dog. But the dog's demeanor changed so drastically once it could see.

If someone could invent a clipper that is silent or at least quieter I think dogs like this would not freak out so much.

Teresa Lowry my step mom has some battery operated ones that aren’t super loud, I’ll see if I can’t ask her about it and link them.

My clippers are pretty quiet. The dogs just don't like it because when they are in this state it's painful to get all that off them.

Every owner of a hairy dog should have a small clipper when they bring the puppy home. The thing can be run near their face every few days (no need to actually cut hair). This is how dogs get used to these things.
This is why show poodles have such a reputation as being great about grooming. Because they've been used to a lot of it since they were 5 weeks old!

Plenty of silent dog grooming clippers. Matted hair hurt.thats the part of the parent not being consistent in brushing

I never knew you had to pull out the inner ear hair! I’m lucky that my dog had good experiences as a puppy with the groomers and is very calm during her grooms. We take her every couple of months and we do touch ups at home before she gets too messy.

Wow Dede! You are phenomenal! I know that dog feels so much better thanks to you, David, and the pet parent. I feel like I know how the pet parent feels. Years ago when I had a cat I noticed how when he would chew his dry food half of it would fall out of his mouth back into his food bowl. I took him to the vet and he had pretty bad tooth decay needing a few teeth pulled! I felt so guilty for not realizing the problem sooner! Since that, I made sure to regularly check his whole body, including his ears and mouth for any issues. Thank you to you and the pet parent for sharing. ; )

This is the best groomer I've ever seen, I noticed lots of comments that don't seem to grasp how difficult and what risk this women has willing taken with these matted dogs others turned away. I'm amazed at her talent to do what the animal desperately needs. Its embarrassing for the owner but they are not a hero for keeping the dog or finally taking action after ignoring and neglecting the problem to this point the groomer is the hero. Shes not judgemental but firm and brave to post these uncomfortable situations for the world to see, I think it shows how much she cares for the animal to show these situations and educate owners. I have seen in the comments what a lot of people not in that situation or that don't have a difficult breed like this think about what she must do for the animals well being. Let's not forget this animal is in pain and suffering daily every hour before it came in every step it took pulled its skin and hurt. This women stopped the pain that poor animal had endured and it might have been uncomfortable to watch but not wanting to face the abuse and neglect letting your dog be matted is the only action that was harmful to this animal and the owner inflicted that harm. If you find it honorable or brave to take care of a animal that you decided to bring into your home its not its just a duty and responsibility you signed up for when you made that choice so let's give the honor and respect to the person who earned it and went to school was harassed online and still uploaded to educate others this wonderful groomer who could have easily turned away and not put her self out there but did anyway for the sake of the animal and to educate as many people as possible to prevent future abuse. If I had more words to explain how in awe I am I would but they don't do it justice so I will stop here.
