I love how you instantly noticed "out there" from the hunchback back of Notre Dame one of the most underrated songs from Disney ever
Absolutely - it's such a great song that most people don't remember. Hunchback is such an underrated movie (I think because it's the darkest of the Disney musicals people don't want to think about it.) I also don't know if people realize that Tom Hulce, who was nominated for playing Mozart in Amadeus, sings Quasimodo in the movie.
If I timed it correctly EJ holds that final phrase/note for 28 seconds!!! Beyond that, Voctave's always stunning dynamics, heartfelt performance and incredible arrangements just leave you smiling and wanting more. So glad they did a video for this fantastic medley. Hoping they do one real soon for their masterpiece, The Prince of Egypt medley too - would love to see that one! For pure vocal mastery Voctave wins everytime!!

A couple of fun facts...Aaron, who has the Beauty and the Beast solo, used to play Gaston in the live show at Hollywood Studios. And E.J. provided the voice of Quasimodo, played by deaf actor Josua Castille, in a Seattle production of Hunchback a few years back; they won best lead performer in a musical!

Drew's performance here is so heartfelt and feels like he is spontaneously singing his own thoughts to his love interest. I love it! Also, EJ Cardona can get right the heck out of town! :P

I know you've done Mary Did You Know from Home Free and Pentatonix. You really need to hear Voctave with Mark Lowry (the guy that wrote the song). It's probably my favorite version ever! Keep up the good work!
Ooooo! Voctave! "It's been a bit of a while." Voctave has such a unique, Broadway and 'choir' sound. I haven't watch any Disney movies lately, more of the '80s films. But this is still entertaining. Jennifer! Voctave! You'd fit right in with this! That is if you could say "theatrical" 😁 Kidding. I don't know why I didn't read the MEDLEY part of the title ... I was confused at first when the song switched. Reading is an underrated skill. Beautiful. So many different approaches and layers through the various songs. And that ending! I was looking for where he took a breath before you mentioned it! Not only no drop in volume on that held note but he had enough for vibrato at the end! Incredible! And that slight dissonance just before the resolve made the resolve all the sweeter! Great reaction and analysis as always Jennifer. 😊

That was a lot of a cappella fun. It was interesting to see how they chose to perform Friends On The Other Side versus Voiceplay's version with J None in the lead. Hey Jen - your reaction at the very end of this (between 28:16 and 28:36) is maybe the most powerful reaction I've ever seen. You are nearly always the epitome of controlled excitement - always genuine, but I don't think I've ever ween you completely blown away like this before. I love watching your reactions because I feel your excitement and emotion. This was incredible - both Voctave (of course), and because of your very real overpowering, emotional reaction to this. Loved it. 24:55 reminded me of the hunchback medley by Ringmasters from several years ago. It's a great piece of barbershop.
If you haven't been to one of their concerts it's one of the best musical experiences I've ever been apart of. I'm a band kid by nature and been going to concerts for 20ish years. They're the first group or performance that's put me to tears multiple times.
I saw Voctave live in February. Jamey introduced two new male members, Drew and Aaron and each of them had solo parts as part of their introduction. Then Jamey turned Kurt loose and Kurt became a wild man. He is quite the extrovert. Glad to see each of the wonderful women still a part of the group.
Drew and Aaron are not new. They've been with the group for almost 3.5 years now.
@@jasonkim2739 When Jamey introduced them to the audience in February of this year, he introduced them as the newest members of Voctave and allowed the audience to hear them individually and get to know them. I had the impression that Drew and Aaron were new to most of the audience, thus Jamey's introduction.

EJ and Jamey seem to be connected to Out There and Go the Distance. There’s an older video of them doing Disney’s Animazement trio with Rachel Potter and they sing those songs. Also, EJ did Hunchback and sang Out There in the show. Nice place for Jamey to start when doing that arrangement.
Love Voctave, got to see them earlier this year there were sound issues as you could only really hear the sopranos 80% of the time.
We love us some happy face Jen! You do need to work on your villain part though. You're far too adorable to be scary although you might be just a bit too mischievous to be a hero. I think we'll just settle for you being you. That should be high praise!

You've already covered my favourite Voctave performance (Disney Love Medley, their outtake vids are adorable btw), but have you checked out their version of How Far I'll Go from Moana?
I feel like all these songs were allocated so well to the right singers. I also feel like EJ’s voice makes the emotional beats of Out There so much more apparent. I like the version from the movie, but I don’t think it’s as good as EJ’s version especially at putting the emotion forward.
Can you do a reaction to citizen queen? Killing me softly or never enough? They're an all girl acapella group, and you don't do those very often. They were mentored by Pentatonix Scott. They sound really good!

Jamey singing Go The Distance is stunning! Thank you for this gift.Yean and EJ's last note brought me to tears as well the first time I heard it. Music CAN truly bring tears of joy! If you haven't seen this EJ was the singing voice for a portrayal of Quasi by a deaf actor as Quasi would have been truly deaf because of how he was born and the bells.
