How to Change Line Roller Bearing in A Shimano Stradic Reel

- Here is a quick video tutorial on how to change the roller bearing on the Shimano Stradic Ci4+ Spinning reel. It's important that you don't oil or spray lubricants on this bearing per the manufacturer because doing so removes the protective chemicals added that help keeps water and salt out of the reel.

Great video and common problem with the stradic, I have burnt through 4 roller bearings in 3 years and always wash down equipment after each session.

I have put a drop of hot sauce oil every beginning of the season on all my shimano spinners. Never a failure. My friend's stradic, never oiled it. Failed within 1 year.
So the line roller bearing is a complete piece? You can't just replace the bearing it's self ,?
Would the roller bearing cause a grinding sound? I notice that when I reel in my line, it sounds like it grinding. I take out the spool and turn my handle and no noise. Thanks 🙏🏼
It appears that the 17680 washer is mounted on the bottom and not on the outside. This is how the manual says that it has to be on the outside. I have seen many videos of the breakdown and it is always inside, which surprises me since in the manual and in the Kit diagram it has to be outside

I tried to 'gently' take the roller guide apart on my older ci4 3000, but it kind of got away from me. Now tho, I'm not so sure that I have the sequencing correct in order to reassemble ...??? I cleaned it all up anyway, still grinding, though not as bad before, but still unpleasant and irritating. I would to buy a complete replacement kit (WITH DIAGRAM SEQUENCE INSTRUCTIONS!!!) and replace the whole assembly, but having trouble finding anything of the sort... ??? ... ??? ... ??? Great reel though!!!

They recommend that you never oil the bearing, I dunno. Sounds bizarre to me too lol. Glad you like the shirts, many more to come.

So do you have an extra handle? The chrome cap came off the handle on one of my ci4+ it bugs me because i have 4 and use all 4 and when i come to use that one, i feel the cap missing 😔 or maybe i should try upgrading the handle
Hey Marcos, you don't get another cap when you buy a handle but Call Shimano, good chance they will replace it or charge very little for a replacement.
Marcos Reyna I’ve lost that cap twice on my ci4+ both times I bought a cap on eBay. Costs like $8 bucks or so.
I order the new bearing only I wish I could find something on that.
I personally wouldn’t have any reason to remove the bearing unless my rod fell in salt water heaps of times. But other then that it’s a very good video you made explaining the basic parts.

It's no longer smooth and typically makes a noise as if sand is in the bearing.
