      Credit to Seba Seba for providing the advice for the shim behind the bearing!
      Seba, i can send you the full video! : ) I did give you credit and talked about it, but the original video was 27 minutes and i had to cut a lot of things to get it under 20 mins. People just don't want to click on videos over 20 minutes. I came here to leave that comment but you already found it. I am working all day today and could not post until now.

    for the main shaft bearing.
    you can go with 5x8x2.5 and plastic spacer (RD22032) inside the bearing (this is what stella do).
    or you can go with 4x8x3 and remove the metal washer.
    or you can go with 4x8x2.5 just like the video.
    either one will work as good as the other.

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      i like 4x8x3 the most. It is strongest and simplest. But the Stella way is best because metal to metal friction creates a rough feel sometimes. I've done this 20 times already and sometimes makes the reel feel horrible and u just have to try another bearing

    After some serious thinking, review seeing on TH-cam and price comparisons I ended up buying a 2000 vanford and a 2000 ballistic for my Carabus extreme rod. Caldia can only be bought in old versions so that recommendation I couldn’t follow. I am getting the reels sent from Germany to Denmark at what calculated in us prices (Denmark has 25% vat on top of us prizes) is around 135 US $ a reel. The prices were lower than the new ultegra here. Now I have to get the, in a weeks time and compare them to my 21 fuegos as well. Can’t wait…. Christmas is coming early this year! Ho ho hoooo

    I think the only bearings that are beneficial are the spool support bearings instead of the bushings. On the old certate, the 2 missing bearings from exist were the spool bearings instead of bushings. They could have designed it to have bushings though to make it saltwater compatible since those areas contact water frequently, but some ceramic bearings supporting the spool drags I feel are smoother than bushings.. thoughts?

    very enjoyable ivan . you hit all the points. in my personal experience with spinners most feel great when i rotate the handle in the store. it's when i hit the surf with the thing and start retrieving lures with a little resistance behind them, either in weight or lure shape that i know i bought a dud or a refined machine. i've had the best experience with the two big japanese [ originated ] brands.

    I bought 10 bearings each in the 5 sizes needed to convert the stradic Fl and Vanford from Ali at cost of about $20 in total. I swapped out 6 in the Stradic FL HG and 5 in the Vanford XG each with C3000 models and did not find any difference after either of the conversions. I did one stradic FL 1000HG with 6 bearings and again no difference. For $3/reel in bearings, I don't feel that I overspent. The worm gear front bearing and the oscillation paw bearing are 2x5x2.5mm and there is a change in spacers. I must thank you on the instructions for the rear worm gear bearing and spacer. I will have to revisit it because I don't think I put the spacer against the bearing on the outside. Thanks again

    Thanks for reply sounds like you are ahead of the curve again. Back in the 1970's I got my first good reel a Zebco Cardinal 4 made by Abu. Now it is retired in collection as well as a Mitchell 308. I know why some spinning reels are called coffee grinders . I used the 308 lots and has alot of saltwater. fishing for small Coho Salmon. The Daiwa Sweepfire witch is about 10yrs. old as it has a metal body blows the cardinal out of the water. My new Sweepfire 5000 has a plastic bushing on the right handle side there is a lot of play so that's do for a upgrade. Esthecly it looks like a saltaga and I'm just winching in 3 to 5 lb ish cod so fast they fly out of the water towards me when they break the surface. Great for a Saturday fish fry. If I want sport I go trout fishing were most fly anglers are basically jigging little chronomide flys. They would actually do better drop shotting the chronomide. I literally fish circles around them on the turn It looks like they scare the big ones away as I troll a long line just of bottom looking for a lone whopper who trave by them selfs mostly. That's not my fly in the picture but it would do. Marabou feather is the key as it moves and looks alive. I hook the big ones in the tongue which means they were totally fooled. The big ones tongues are knarelled up from being hooked many times. Anyways I can't wait till spring and go catch some red ear sunfish on my new ultralight outfit. Some get good size and fight well on the fly rod. A local Lake is home to the biggest ones I've seen . We don't have Crappie so they will have to do. Keep up the great video's

    Great video - I just purchased a 2000s Vanford and first impressions are its a great reel, super light and smooth. I quickly noticed some looseness in the handle and upon seems when I take the handle off the long screw which goes into the reel has some play in it and is not tight which is giving me the problem. Have you seen this issue before, is it a faulty handle perhaps?

    • @ifishcatfish

      its not the handle.. the bearings have some free play. If you use tight bearings, then there is resistance when u turn. All of the vanfords are like that. When u reel u only reel forward, so there is no free play

    I guess that changing those 3 bearings won't change the perception on using it since the 2 spool bearings will only work when the drag is being used, and the bearing on the worm shaft isnt that significant for such feel, unlike the 2 bearings for the main gear and the bearing for the pinion gear, which are most likely to make a difference.
    The replacement for the worm shaft I guess is a good thing to do since a bushing in such place makes more friction than you might believe, I've seen a lot of relats of Shimano reels with shafts being damaged when using bushings instead of bearings, mostly worm shafts and handles

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      IMHO upgrading some bearings is good to avoid damage at some shafts as I stated, but it is very far from turning a Vanford equal to a Vanquish for exemple.

    Hi excellent video I have a mt.bike with Hugi hub's marketed by DT. Sealed made in Switzerland. As with all my bikes when doing bearing smoothness test these wheels spin like a perpetual motion machine. I would imagine they are ceramic sealed. If spun they never stop as I get bored waiting for them to stop. Never seen them stop. Maybe there BOCA'S don't know for sure but bearings come in standard sizes They don't seem to expensive and should last forever and probably are close to Shimanos in price. Although Shimano stuff always works. I'd like to see what you think about Swiss beatings. A footnote the sintered bronze bushings on my 1960's Abu ambassador are extremely smooth compared to bearings but back lashes when the 2oz. Snaps off during cast sure eats a lot of line. My fault for not retying beforehand. Still it happings so I'd rather spin fish.

      Where do u get Swiss bearings? I don't know anything about them, and have no apetite to test them on my reels. Japanese bearings are amazing and i trust them. If i see other people use other bearings with success, i may try. But i don't have a lot of reels and i am not interested in spending money and then tearing my reels just to put something i am unsure about. People say some of the chinese bearings on ebay are really good. Maybe. I have no apetite to test them. I want to open my reel only ONCE.

      As for the rubberized washers - i don't think these make a damm difference. The 2500 uses the same bearing and same nut around the bearing, same part numbers literally, and has no rubberized washer. Why not? If you want to buy those... you can order them from platt, but they will cost you arm and a leg. You can order all of the parts that I used from there. He sells genuine Vanquish parts. But the price becomes so high that it is cheaper to just buy a vanquish. At least you get the magnesium body

    Just want to make the reel feel more tighter and rigid in my vanford c2000s

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The horizontal play is not a problem because it doesn't happen when u turn the handle. There is some play up and down, but there is nothing you can do for that one.
      Also, beware that adding shims always risks adding resistance. I think Shimano on purpose prefers not to make the handle perfectly tight.
      Also, on the Vanford there is no easy way to add that shim. You have to remove the rotor and its a lot of work, just to remove free play that does not occur during retrieval, and probably add resistance in the way

Something has to be said when I leave my tools out in the rain, and my open ended wrenches, and sockets do not rust and continue to have a mirror chrome finish. For fishing, I still continue to use the hardened small screwdrivers 00 01 02 and they continue to work flawlessly and not strip screws despite me using them miniprybars. Maybe it is just me, but if I pay 20 dollars for a single socket, I know everyone else will be paying the same price, I hate when brand products get discounted. It’s like playing Pokémon building a tool collection.

    I personally wouldn’t do it because saltwater would destroy the bearings

    Why upgrade a very expensive reel? Better to buy a more expensive one.

    For the price of a Vanford you shouldn’t have to replace these things

      i dont think you have to. There is no perceivable benefit, and these bearings are very expensive

    The question on my mind is why does this even have bushings for the price of this reel? come on shimano...lol

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lets say Shimano sell the reel with the bushings, and with the bearings. The one with the bearings costs $50 more, and is heavier. But in the hand you can't tell the difference. Will you still buy the heavy and expensive reel?

      @@ifishcatfish When it comes to my spinning reels weight isnt a big deal to me. I want a smooth reliable reel made out of metal. I love my Diawa BG and I have used the Vanford before. I think the BG is smoother than this reel and its less than half the price. The BG doesnt have worm oscillation but I really cant tell the difference.

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Which size vanford are you talking about? The 2000 size has problems exactly with the worm oscillation gears. So yeah, even daiwa Legalis is smoother than Vanford 2000

      @@ifishcatfish I think it was a 2500 or 3000. It was a friends reel. I remember thinking he could have bought 2 Diawa BG reels for the cost of this one reel.

      my 2500 is really smooth. Also it weighs exactly HALF of a daiwa BG, even though it costs TWICE. Thats funny : )

      Hmm i didnt kmow it was that bad. I dont control that though.. not my commercials. What is even worse, even if i demonetize the video, youtube still puts commercials in it. They just dont pay me anything..
