Solar Storm is one of my favorite inks ever! I only use it with very juicy, wet nibs, and depending on the light, the glitter shimmers in gold, leaf green, turquoise, blue, and light olive. I'm obsessed.
My other hobby is collecting eyeshadow. I recognize this type of pigment from that- in makeup it's referred to as duochrome or multichrome pigment, which will flash different colors depending on the direction and intensity of light. While some of these pigments have a very noticeable color shift like red to green, the green-gold pigment color shift is more subtle. That being said, I don't think you varied the angle of the light enough to catch the strongest shift. Try holding a bright light (like a camera flash) at an extreme angle to the swatch, that might get it to show on camera. Holding the swatch card so it forms a curved surface might also allow the shift to show up on camera once the ink is dry. Cheers!
Ooh, that's interesting! I think that a big part of the problem is that the light in this video was coming from a big diffuser, so light was basically coming from all directions all the time. I'm going to try again with a point light. Unfortunately, I've already recorded the video for the next chameleon ink, with the same light.
Thank you! To be true I first thought "this is just normal shimmer" but after your comment I went back to my swatch card and now I see how the color goes from cold blue to yellow green. That's nice!
I felt like when I looked at this ink through a camera, it didn’t capture any color besides that gold green color of the shimmer…but in person it looks rainbow like to me.
Someone else said something similar. I think the issue might be the large, diffuse light source I was using. I'm going to try again with a point light source.
Right. See the comment below by "saturnsrings", though. I've seen a few along these lines, now, and I think that my lighting might be too soft to create the effect. We'll see soon enough :-)
I have been very curious about the use of the word Chameleon. It seems that it is the shimmer. I was hoping it would mean the color of the ink would change when dry that would have been awesome.
I was really hoping they would be too, although there do seem to be some inks that have chroma shading that are just marked as "standard" inks, so that's something.
I just made a post in r/fountainpens about chameleon shimmers since it's not intuitive at all. It *does* change colors but it's not a dramatic effect in this ink. The trick is to move, not just tilt!
This one is really beautiful when swatched on a nice absorbent cold press watercolor paper- very consistent base color, more bluish shimmer throughout the swatch…fun for art projects!-glistening- like snow in the moonlight. I too love the dark purple/blue, and doesn’t seem to have more shimmer compared to say, yesterday’s Yule Log😄
This ink is amazing colored!!! Definitely a favorite for me.. the shimmer is a bit brighter..but thats it...I don't know what they are talking about with chameleon shifting in the light...when I think chameleon..I think of chromoshading inks....I think they should of called it shine inks instead.

@@thewetpen happy to help! It's fun when hobbies collide :)
Your inkvent calendar videos are the best! Keep it up. Happy holidays !
It is, like you say . . . interesting. Does it have any kind of a smell to it?
Not that I noticed, no. It's going to get some further investigation on Monday when I get home. :-)
I like this in the actual writing
I'm really enjoying these Inkvent videos. Thank you!

@@thewetpen you might try going out into the sunlight too.
@@ilikepens This is Seattle... I don't expect to see the sun until sometime in July or August 😉
@@thewetpen how did I space that out?!?! Living in Arizona, I forget that there are places that don’t see the sun every single day! 😂
Yeah, I didn’t quite get it either. Why is this chameleon?

Agreed! That's what I had hoped too.
I was really disappointed the chameleon inks weren’t chromoshading.

I like this so far in a Diplomat Magnum broad, but need to try it in a TWSBI broad.

Hmm. Ok, I'll keep experimenting. I might also need to try a point light source rather than a big diffuser. Thanks for the info!

I agree about "Chameleon" being a much better name for chroma shading inks. This ink is definitely very striking when that shimmer catches the light!
Great video! I swatched Solar Storm this morning and had a similar reaction.
Hey Jenn! Glad it's not just me :-) The shimmer is really striking with this one when it comes through evenly, at least.
My Inkvent won’t be here for another day or two, so I’m loving these videos. Thanks for uploading!
Glad I can help :-) I ordered mine from England to save $40, but it got here a little later than I had hoped too.
