3:06 -- You say that if you were playing with the variant, then you could "get a goal". Actually, everybody would get the goal; you would just get advanced knowledge of which goal it was.
This looks great. While I like the randomness of a deck of cards, this tile-based system kinda makes the game more appealing to other players. I might pick this up before Roll for the Galaxy.
12:18 - I may be wrong, but I think there is a misunderstanding at this point of the Galatic Salon technology. You say it is a consume power but, from the text and iconography (comparing it with Old Earth), I would say it means that you get a point when the consume power is activated.
One problem with the explore in this game is that if someone is AP prone, it would take forever for them to pick a planet or development tiles. I suppose there could be a timer....
David Brin's Uplift Universe books are a great series to read/listen. All these "Uplift"'s RIchard kept mentioning reminded me of fond memories listening to them. :)
So this looks like a good game, but perhaps geared mostly for those who are unfamiliar with the RftG offerings to date. I don't own Race but have Roll and the Ambition expansion- with the Rivalry expansion on the horizon (and the customizable dice as part of the Orb game), I don't see myself buying this edition, but I'm sure many others will find a lot of enjoyment from NF.
4:59 -- You say "Alien Uplift Race" when the tile is actually "Avian Uplift Race". You pronounce it correctly 3 minutes later -- of course then you call their good "Alien Technology" instead of "Genes" -- which you then correct yourself 7 minutes later. :-)
@@rahdo But your reasoning for not wanting to give Caverna a second chance at the time was the fact that there were too many buildings to consider, not that they were the same.
well full caverna has 48 tiles to absorb which is 2x as many as new frontiers, and as i said in the video for NF, 24 is a bit overwhelming as well. so if i consider NF's 24 as a bit much, you can imagine how 2x as many is even less appealing. which is why i was proposing alternatives for caverna that would make it more attractive. i talked about emulating agricola (because that's what I love) but i remember a the time a few folks recommended using the "fewer tiles" sides of the board and randomly populating them, and iwas really impressed by the idea. and now here we are, years later, and NF has done exactly that, and it works great :)
@@rahdo Yeah you could just use the 24 tile side. Plus when you flip it most of the new tiles are just variations on the others. Once you got to know the 24 pretty well, you could consider flipping.
Thanks for posting but damn I thought their would be something new to the gameplay but this is way to samey. Disappointing and a sad day for a race for the galaxy fan :(
You get what it says on the tin, a Race for the Galaxy board game. I prefer it when they don't slap the name of a game on anything just because it shares a theme.
Is this a RFTG ala Puerto Rico? Or Puerto Rico with a RFTG theme? First impression doesn't look to bring really new stuff. My girl won't allow buying this with RFTG, RoFTG and Puerto Rico, San Juan in our collection.
Correct me if I am wrong (it has been a while since I have watched rahdo’s Race For The Galaxy video), but this looks like similar gameplay to the original Race For The Galaxy, but just streamlined down a little bit. I like what I see. One reason I didn’t pursue Race For The Galaxy was the confusing iconography. This simplifies that, too! And there isn’t as much confusing, discard these cards in order to play this, etc.
@@JJ_TheGreat This actualy seems way less streamlined than Race. More action options, more resources to track, while in Race you only have to manage the cards. And the secret action selection of the Race has a much bigger fun factor. This one is like the simplest possible worker placement with a good amount of "take that".
Hmm, I dunno, seems like it might make a good card game though...

fair point, sir!
wanna drop any clues about the future for roll? :)

you are correct... note added :)
Rahdo, you are amazing as always, I've been dying to see more about this game.

I can't believe this game is not ranked much higher on BGG
Did I see a mistake when he took the first planet, it was placed in the red area which would trigger end game after all the other spaces are gone.
when they're face down (black and white) they haven't been colonized yet, and they're supposed to go on that side of the board :)
I"ve never tried Race for the Galaxy, this seems neat. I'd give it a shot.

Thanks Jeff Goldblum!

Cool story bro
I'm surprised you liked this so much since you didn't like Caverna's suite of many buildings
the difference here is you get a different combination of buildings every game, instead of the exact same ones every time you play :)

You should go to the 6 minute mark of his final thoughts video to see why RftG fans will love this.
