I really appreciate how Ryan gives short pauses after explaining something. It really helps give the viewer some time to process the information. I've never seen this level of empathy and care for learners in a tutorial channel! Awesome editing too! Subscribing to this amazing boardgame channel!!

I haven't noticed that until you mentioned it. I pause other videos a lot and rewind. I get new info too fast so I am still processing something when new information comes in.

@@auroreinara7322 I always find that happens, usually Americans who explain things so quickly! Having a pause and a slower speaker really helps internalize things, without having to pause as much.

you, sir, are a complete natural at this game. Economy of words coupled with tight and witty descriptions of the most common troublespots (such as trade / consume and the basic idea of using the cards for ruddy everything!) make for an excellent, entertaining listen. • @NightsAroundaTable
      @NightsAroundaTable  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thanks so much! You’d have to give me specifics, but i think it’s technically possible? The abilities on the cards trigger in different phases, and if a power says you get to consume “a” good, i don’t think the game cares where that good comes from. If the game was farming-themed, you’d just be harvesting a crop.

i know some people play that way. Purists might say that you’re goofing too much with the game and probability and distribution by not pulling cards out of the deck to act as goods. But it’s more philosophy than anything else. i wrote an article about it:

Good eye! This video is from Nights Around a Table Season Zero, which was abysmally dance-free.

    Hi!
Firstly, AMAZING job with explaining this. You’re right, the rule book is a MESS.
Secondly - we came across a scenario that we didn’t know how to resolve.
I played the “Phase IV: Consume: x2 VP” Phase Card, but I didn’t have any world or development cards with Phase IV powers. Am I allowed to still consume and earn VP? Or must I have consume powers on currently owned cards to enact consume?
Furthermore, does this rule apply to all phases?
Also, just asking because the rules never actually state this, each good is consumed for only one VP per good, correct? It doesn’t matter what type of good it is?
    Thanks!!

That's definitely one of the stickiest spots in the rules. It seems intuitive, doesn't it, to figure that any good can be consumed for 1VP by default?
The fact is that if you don't have any consume powers, you can't consume goods for points.
The rulebook says "All players *must* use their consumer powers, IF THEY HAVE ANY" (emhpasis mine).
So the only advantage to playing Phase IV: Consume when you don't have any consume powers is to force your opponents to consume their goods when it may not be advantageous to them (like when someone has a big juicy yellow alien good that he or she likely wants to sell).
Conversely, you must always sell a good, if you have one, when you play Consume:Trade. No special powers are required.
      Does that help?

While the symbols, I'm sure, are meant to compress info into something very dense that can be evaluated at a glance or from your peripheral vision, it seems like a lot of this stuff takes up just a square centimeter or so on each card and can easily just be printed as words like on Magic or Dominion cards while leaving reasonable margins for aesthetics and clarity. You wouldn't even need the phase numbers anymore! Just their names. I dunno. Just a thought.

It sounds like you think i'm the game designer? (i'm not.) Or are you just spitballing?
i know certain publishers reduce as much as they can to iconography in order to keep their localization/translation costs low.
