Lorex home security problem

  • I've been happy with my Lorex system, until my driveway camera started acting up. Unplugging then replugging power fixes it it only for hours - one day tops. What would cause this? The camera? The video cable? The camera's power supply (though all the other cameras work from the same supply)? Or the recording unit itself?
UPDATE: Camera is bad. Lorex replaced it under warranty with free shipping. All good now.

Iam having a similar problem but with the Q-See brand camera from costco. I was also thinking the power adapter issue, and ove rthe last 4-5 months more and more cameras are acting like this on and off.

In my case, the power plug for the camera (not the video signal plug) had corrosion like you see on a car battery. I sprayed both the male and female terminals with electrical contact spray cleaner (alcohol based) and wiped out the corrosion with a paper towel but q-tips are better to get all the corrosion out. I re-connected and signal is good and stable. I wrapped with electrical tape and duct tape, but this could make the problem worse as condensation builds up on the tape, and bridges the positive and negative, causing ionic precipitation/corrosion. Gotta clean it every couple years when the signal starts going out. Good luck!

FYI (this might help you) my cameras all died suddenly (signal just went back), i think after a heavy rain. The base station was glitchy, so I threw it on the floor in frustration. Haha. A new Sannce (sp) knockoff is $50 on ebay without the HD, and the unit seems much better, so far. I finally determined the failure was the separate power supply (just for the cameras) shorted, likely from moisture-salts/corrosion again. It's a 12vdc-2.5 amp switch-mode that failed, i'm going to use a sturdier iron-core i have lying around, cutting off the old switch mode and crimp on the new one.
For the outside power wire connections where the short/salts built up, after cleaning again, i'm going to cut-off the push-connectors and use twist caps connectors instead, and keep the caps away from each other, and maybe fill the electrical caps with a silicone and then cover in electrical tape, and zip tie the wires to keep anything from tugging them apart.
Pain in the ass! Hopefully this lasts till I'm dead (when I fall off the ladder).

Having same problem every night when it goes into infrared mode I suspect the extra current required when infrared first comes on takes camera out I’ve replaced cameras at first I purchased a 10 camera set had extras but problem still occurs. My cameras have extended cables because of location so I’m truly convinced it’s a low voltage problem I’ve already installed larger power supply on cameras even went as far as using one power supply per camera but it’s a voltage drop due to length of cables so for now I’ve installed a timer that shuts power off and on 5 minutes after dusk. Will be installing power supplies in attic closer to cameras in spring. Can’t believe Lorex hasn’t figured this out. I was told to switch power supply to camera.

What exactly do you mean? I'm having a motion sensing problem with several cameras that randomly stop recording but still have a live view. Lorex has no idea and I have narrowed it down to the camera itself. So far it's 4 out of my 8 cameras doing the same thing intermittently.

it is a bad power supply to the DVR. I'm letting everyone know this correct information. it's not a bad DVR, it's not bad cameras, it's not bad wires, it's a bad power supply to the DVR. the output on the power supply is 12 volt 1.5 amps. I wish someone shared that with me. it would have saved me two weeks worth of time
