Frank consider maybe replacing one of the cameras with one of their cameras that have optical zoom. Just like an SLR camera where you can get different focal lengths Lorex has a few options for more actual camera zoom. Not sure how your using it but if its for your driveway or to see onto the street might just be a change of one camera at some point. Almost all the consumer systems come with the same type of bullet cameras so probably wouldnt have mattered which one you bought.

I use a tablet and the app to see who is at the door, or if I am waiting for somebody to come to the house I will turn them on in advance, like pizza guy or whatever. The other thing is if you have the zones set well on your system if somebody for example pulls into drive way you will get notified almost instantly and you can pull open app from phone or tablet to see. If you have a computer hooked to that monitor and its a part of your home network you could load the lorex pc client on your computer and watch the video all the time. Just as example I a screen connected to NVR but I dont stand in the closet watching footage either. I have the system connected to my home router and I can log in on my pc and watch from that in my office.
Appreciate the video. I actually run CAT6 cable for a living so no big deal. My thing is would have liked to see the connections at each camera. I wish they made the base where you could hide all the messy connections inside the base because all I need to do is drill a small hole for the CAT6 cable. I will put my own RJ45 end on myself. Makes for a cleaner install. Thanks!!
Hello. Thank you for your video review. I have been looking at the Lorex 4k 30fps NVR systems for a while now. How good and dependable is the phone app?
I have the 4K Ultra HD IP NVR System I'm trying to figure out some way that i can get the video one at a time in full screen starting with camera 1 thru camera 16 one at a time

Yes because they are so close doesnt seem to matter how I set it, ill get notified. I have a big long painter pole with a softcloth and everyonce in a while go wipe down camera to remove any bugs.
Hi, I recently purchased a Lorex camera system (Smart NVR with 8 IP 8MP cams) I love the resolution and overall software. The only thing I hate as of now is the amount of false motion notifications I get. I have the smart detection set and I still continue to motion for motion outside of the areas I selected. Do you have the same issues?
I do get false notifications but not as many as I did when I first got it. First off make sure you setup good zones, then go into the Motion Menu and change the Sensitivity and Threshold and play with them a bit to get a good balance. It helps but wont solve everything, bugs that go across the camera or giant rain/snow can also cause issues.
Thank you so much Rick for taking your time to show us how to install and tips to use it, my iphone app doesn’t work properly with the device, I couldn’t record on my phone app, also restart and download app again I still couldn’t connect my phone app with device, can you please tell me how, thank you so much I appreciated
Nice video. Thinking about using a wireless HDMI extender and a wireless mouse with this system. That way the NVR can sit in the closet and I can operate settings and view on the big TV screen. But I have not seen anything that tells me if a driverless wireless mouse will work with that receiver. I am sure the wireless HDMI will work. I guess, I will just buy them and test unless you did the same.
Let me add a tip to those installing the IP camera system. Make certain there is no way for water/moisture to get in the rj45 connectors. Over a few months the connection will fail and so will your camera. I have had several of mine fail in this way. Reverse engineered it and soldered the connections to repair all but 1 of them. You can detect this failure by looking at the connectors and seeing black on the pins.
Lorex website states that all purchasers have 10G Cloud Storage. Are you able to do continuous recording over those storage? The reason I asked because if someone broke into the house and steal the hard drive box, I would still want the cloud storage to have records of the thief before the system is disconnected.
Hello, I need understanding how to setup a camera system. Looking to buy the 8 camera system for outside the 4K version. My only problem is every video is a house with wooden frames. My entire house is full of cement from top to bottom and the Walls are brick cylinders so they are very thick to drill through. Also the cameras will be setup far apart due to the enormous ground coverage I need. Any suggestions how to do the setup ?
Maybe you should hire a cabling group to install them? They would have proper tools and skills to do this work. Saves you trying to figure out how to go through concrete etc.
Yes it can be notified from motion, and I will show you how and what i did as well I will also go over some ideas as to how it can integrate into my automation. I filmed video yesterday should post tonight
The hardware seems very reliable and has not had any issues. I have had it installed since last summer. We live in Canada and it handled winter like a champ. So overall very pleased. My minor gripes are as follows : 1)The software on device and computer feels a bit dated and a touch clunky, however it works and you do get used to it. 2)I like that my package came with the 4 cameras, I wish they had a bit more zoom or at least one camera would come with the ability to shoot more distance. (although I could buy one still). 3)With the motion detection it is very hard to find a good balance for snow and car headlights. I have done pretty good job but I know when it is really snowing or the wind is blowing snow around i may get some notifications. I am ok with this as its only once in a while. Overall, happy with unit, I have called support a few times and they have helped me out and were friendly. I would still recommend this system. I have a lot of other smart home shit I hate and is pure garbage, I like this one. Not sponsored either just happy with it.
I bought this same Lorex 4 camera system from Costco. Do you have to connect a keyboard to the NVR for setup? Is is necessary to connect it to your cable router?
Rick van der Valk sorry to hear about your surgery. Hope you get well soon. I look forward to seeing more of your videos. I am also in Canada and both the set with the nest video doorbell and waiting for it to be installed. I’m also looking to get more smart home devices
Thank You from a New Subscriber! Very happy I found your Vids. My new Lorex System going in soon. I'm not a young man anymore and dread the Rafters/Wiring...but I got a plan!
@@RickvanderValk14 Hey, thanks for the check in! Yes, drilled holes in my house, Lol, struggled with the Cat Cable and it has been up and running quite a few days now. Very pleased with the equipment so far... To my surprise upon opening the box, Lorex had slightly upgraded the NVR from my original choice. 2 Terabyte Hard Drive and 8 Channels. Nice and now I have room to grow. It was decent monies for us so refilling the 'Cookie Jar' for a better higher resolution Bad Boy Monitor. I took the time to install the cabling for the Monitor/TV in a more frequented room for keeping an eye on things. Look to 'gofanco' for HDMI over Cat6 Cable Extender Kit(s) and other neat stuff. Hi Rick, I believe we are using the same Lorex CCTV system (LNR826KXP). I’m also using a MacBook Pro as my computer to access the FLIR Client Cloud. After an initial issue with downloading the correct software, I have the system working, in that I mean I can see live pictures. A problem I have is that whilst I can see the live pictures using the FLIR Cloud, I can’t access any of the camera/NVR settings using the device CFG (they are greyed out). I asked Lorex technical and they say not all systems are compatible with the FLIR cloud. The questions I have are: 1. Are we using the same system? 2. Did you suffer this problem? 3. If so, how did you over come it? 4. Any other suggestions on how this problem may be overcome? I guess when you produced the video I doubt you expected to receive all these types of questions. If you are able to assist I would be most grateful. Enjoy your day. Kind regards, Bill
Hey Bill thanks for the note. My System is the same one. I did not suffer this problem, I have mine working on a PC not a mac, but dont see why that should be a problem. Do you have a network issue maybe? I am not sure how you are setup but maybe your network is causing an issue. For the record, I have a wirless modem /router from isp, a switch and some orbi access points. I disabled the wireless on my ISP router and use the ORBI for my wireless. All my hardwired devices plug into my switch that include the NVR. They are all on the same network that way. Only thing plugged into my isp router is a connection from it to my switch. I would keep on them, if you have the system I do I can make changes all day long from my pc. You should be able too.
Hi Rick, thanks for taking the time to reply. I'm using an Apple time-capsule in bridge mode connected to the modem provided by ISP. The NVR is connected to the time capsule by an ethernet connection and I'm trying to access the FLIR Client Cloud via the time capsule wi-fi. As I said, I can see all the live views just can't edit any of the settings. I'll get back to Lorex technical, maybe I've done something wrong somewhere in the set-up. Any other suggestions? Otherwise thanks for your time Rick. Regards, Bill
I’m interested in this system but I see so many negative comments “ Costco “ webpage.I like all the settings and functionality but again I don’t know who to believe with so many different opinions HELP!!!
@@angelf2416 I went onto costco.com and read the reviews, some of what people said does make sense, i noticed people complained about distance the cameras could get a clear image. If you go to my video questions and answers I demonstrated that, also people said software was not great. I would agree its not fantastic software but it works fine for me and i have gotten used to it quickly. The microphone that you can speak out of is a bit on the quiet side but to me that was a secondary feature more of a nice to have...I dont normally talk through the cameras. Gotta remember, they sell zillions of these things and only people who hate them generally leave a review..
I am told 2 way does not work on this system, not sure if it was a system or camera limitation. I called them and asked. I can play an audio alert whenever i want but cannot speak through it.
@@spiderwillbe You may want to double check with them, some of their systems will do it..The person i spoke to told me i couldnt, worth a call or an instant chat on their website before you decide..i like the system its great
The 4k video is good if you have a event that needs details and police can use the footage ,but for you to view the same in 4k you'll need a 4k tv your pc monitor will not cut it.
I have the unit in an electrical closet and dont hear anything at all, it does make noise, my computer or laptop fans are louder than it though. As for the night vision its ok. If you watch the second lorex video i posted you can see some of the night time footage in it.
Have you been happy with this system I'm stuck between Lorex and a company called Backstreet surveillance. I don't even know if it's possible but I'm looking for a single camera to put above a doorway to capture who was at the door and license plates directly behind the person 30 feet away would these cameras work or would I need to cameras one for the person at the door and one is zoomed in for the 30 feet away
Daytime cameras are pretty good. I'm going to do another video this week to show some of this. Give me a day or two and I'll show you the range, software, apps all that stuff
@@RickvanderValk14 I was going to purchase a Lorex system in a day or two so I will wait for your video but where you referring to the fact that the nighttime is not too great would you be able to make out a license plate from 30 feet away at night and have you heard of all their systems being the same way or do they have better equipment
I would say they probably dont make 30 feet I will actually do a test in the video for you so you can see what distance you can see to. Hang on hoping to shoot video tomorrow/tomorrow night so you can see
You would have to go into the Main menu, Event, Motion, select the channel you want to modify and then decrease the sensitivity. DONT forget to hit apply before you exit out of the menu.
Great in depth review and install, there was loads of good info in your video. If you could do a video or point us in a direction to understand more about ITTT, or how to set up the ITTT? Thanks, cool video.
Excellent install video! How do I get internet to the unit? Do I run a cable to my computer/router? I know ALL the mechanical but NONE of the electrical/digital. Please help!
Great video! One thing thats been keeping me away is I have no experience installing myself however the fact that you have little experience as well gives me hope that I'd be able to install this as well. Did the 60ft cable end up being enough for you? Thank you!
Hey that was a really good video there yeah the unit that you bought was like a consumers unit what you want to do next time as maybe I'll go ahead and get the 4K HD 8-channel Ultra Heidi Fusion system if you're looking for license plate reading because it has Auto tracking and stuff like that it's a little bit more than what you probably paid for that one but it's well worth it and it works excellent It's stores all the images in a database and everything else yeah good video I like it and I enjoyed it and good luck with your smart home yet this is Albert from Michigan say hey to you God bless you and your family stay safe and have a prosperous year
Rick....nice thorough review. You would make a great teacher. 😊. We have a commercial system that requires a static IP address to access through our apps. Any thoughts on the security of your system? Is Alexei in Russia going to be watching your comings and goings?
Thanks Corine :) Security seems ok, made sure that I changed all default passwords to a strong level, changed the default ports used by each device, opened minimum ports for the system, updated it, but who knows always seems to be some work around to stuff online. Hopefully this does the trick.
Are you happy with your Lorex setup?...I cant make my mind up with what NVR to go with out of Swann and Lorex...I would mainly use the app to see events unless I need the NVR for something major but I read alot of complaints on both companies...especially the app...
I am, its worked good for me for more than a year. Its not perfect but it has been reliable. The notifications and the android app which i use have worked well. I have it tied to my gmail account to send me screen shots when somebody breaks a zone and that always works. I am sure they could improve the overall experience but I am still happy with it. Perfect no, but compared to what else is out there i think its pretty solid.
Hi Rick, I have the system for couple weeks. Everything works perfect other than the motion on my HD TV appears a little bit jagged. Does your camera have a smooth motion view?
Irek Trojanowski How are two ways audio for these cameras? Rick say he could not get it to work, and I just wonder if you have any luck with the two ways audio. Thanks
Might be because it's 15fps in 4K. You can lower the resolution and increase fps. Internet viewing can be glitchy as well. The playback direct from nvr to monitor is best. App viewing will be glitchy.
@@RickvanderValk14 I was just in Costco yesterday north of Atlanta, GA USA and they had a Lorex 4k NVR 8 Channel/6 In/Outdoor 4k camera security system for $800. Thanks for posting the video. Good job. For those really interested in this system and how to install, it was not too long. Now I want to go find your other videos on how you integrated into Home Automation.
I would strongly suggest you don't turn on the light in your room, you will just illuminate yourself in your home and allow your intruders to see you better. I would probably suggest turning on exterior flood lights or turning on Alexa or google home with a song or news station. You can even tell her what to say, so she can wake you with, "Attention... Outside motion has been detected." I've been looking at this system for some time, I hear a lot of good and bad about its functions and software being horrible. I want to hear and see the active deterrence in play, how loud is it, what does it sound like when you're talking or listening to someone. I use IPcamViewer Pro for my existing system, I'm curious if I can do a 2 way conversation thru this app or do I need to use the Lorex software to do that.
Yes you have a good point, the active deterrence is pretty quiet and I dont know it would do much. Listening to sounds is very good, I can hear things very well with the system, me speaking works but seems quiet. I think that is probably the issue is that the speaker they must have used is too wimpy. Software isnt pretty but does work, I think it could be improved for sure but it works reliably so I can deal with it not looking pretty.
Great video of your install!! How bright would you evaluate the lights that come on with motion? How good is the voice speaker and microphone? Is it tinny or of good quality sound? Can you post a video of the zoom function? I know its digital zoom, but at 4k, curious for face recognition. Again, I have been looking for a review of this system for some time, so thank you for making it.
I will do another video now that I have had system for a month and show some of The feature. The lights are pretty small but they are bright for the size. These would not be a replacement for full flood lights but it's a nice added touch. The alarm is not that loud, but in a pinch they would help as for the microphone they pick up audio well and you can hear things well. I am happy with system.
@@RickvanderValk14 The batteries cost me 35 - 50 dollars a month and the whole system doesn't work with the new software upgrades. You should also to get a hdmi splitter so you can hook it up to your big screen in your living and just get a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. Don't used the cat 5 cables go to www.monoprice.com to get you a cat 8 ethernet cable to increase your video quality.
Cat 8 LOL. What do you think these camera transmit 100GB per second. Come on Cat 8 not out yet unless you expect to spend a of $$$$. Cat5e or 6 is all you need.
I think video makes it look that way but its still pretty visible from the road. Would probably be better if it was angled but thats the point of all of this stuff is to help identify what areas could be issues and try to address them

Thank you so much Rick for taking your time to show us how to install and tips to use it, my iphone app doesn’t work properly with the device, I couldn’t record on my phone app, also restart and download app again I still couldn’t connect my phone app with device, can you please tell me how, thank you so much I appreciated
Were you able to resolve it?
Thank you for all the effort you put into the video. You mentioned that you can zoom in and out, but does the software allow for facial recognition?
Your welcome, no it doesn't recognize faces
Thank you for the prompt reply!
On average how long will it record for? Can you get a week or so before it records over
About 5 days at full 4k resolution. Its lots as system warns me about motion detection. It is expandsble if you want to add second harddrive.
Hi @@RickvanderValk14. Can you expand to an external USB Drive, or do you have to replace it with an internal drive?
Good tip!
Lorex website states that all purchasers have 10G Cloud Storage. Are you able to do continuous recording over those storage? The reason I asked because if someone broke into the house and steal the hard drive box, I would still want the cloud storage to have records of the thief before the system is disconnected.
excellent video, im going to be doing my in laws place soon decided to go the current version of costco Lorex
Thank you the unbiased and honest review. Looking at different models. This helps clear up some questions I’ve had.
Great video for novice installers
Hello, I need understanding how to setup a camera system. Looking to buy the 8 camera system for outside the 4K version. My only problem is every video is a house with wooden frames. My entire house is full of cement from top to bottom and the Walls are brick cylinders so they are very thick to drill through. Also the cameras will be setup far apart due to the enormous ground coverage I need. Any suggestions how to do the setup ?
Maybe you should hire a cabling group to install them? They would have proper tools and skills to do this work. Saves you trying to figure out how to go through concrete etc.
Okay thank you. I’ll do research for my area.
It would be great to see how you integrate the NVR into your HA system. I.e. can your system be notified of motion?
Yes it can be notified from motion, and I will show you how and what i did as well I will also go over some ideas as to how it can integrate into my automation. I filmed video yesterday should post tonight
posted a new video with an idea for HA at the end
Lorex 4K IP camera from cosco, how to turn of a night vision led light
Its usually found under the Motion settings under deterrence.
Wow best video I have seen on install and system! Just scared to get up on that ladder on a two story lol
You've had this for a while now, what do you think of it? Any complaints?
@@RickvanderValk14 Thanks for the info!
I bought this same Lorex 4 camera system from Costco. Do you have to connect a keyboard to the NVR for setup? Is is necessary to connect it to your cable router?
No you dont need keyboard, if you want to connect system to your computer or internet yes you would want to connect it.
@@RickvanderValk14 Thanks Rick, you have a great video. I have subscribed and will be following.
I just bought this same model and very glad I found this video
Enjoy I really like it
Rick van der Valk I enjoy the videos. Do you stop making videos?
@@jjjohnston545 no actually filming a bunch of new ones as we speak...had knee surgery havent been moving much...
Rick van der Valk sorry to hear about your surgery. Hope you get well soon. I look forward to seeing more of your videos. I am also in Canada and both the set with the nest video doorbell and waiting for it to be installed. I’m also looking to get more smart home devices
Can you see it live on your phone? And can you see recorded videos from your phone
Thank You from a New Subscriber! Very happy I found your Vids. My new Lorex System going in soon. I'm not a young man anymore and dread the Rafters/Wiring...but I got a plan!
you put it in yet?
Working Great.....O' Santa...could you bring me..
Fun, Safe Holidays to Everyone.
Hi Rick,
I believe we are using the same Lorex CCTV system (LNR826KXP).
The questions I have are:
Kind regards,
Bill
Regards,
Bill
I’m interested in this system but I see so many negative comments “ Costco “ webpage.I like all the settings and functionality but again I don’t know who to believe with so many different opinions HELP!!!
Ill have to look at costco page and see what people say. Im happy with mine.
Rick van der Valk I like both videos that you made about this security system!!!lmk what you think about the comments on the Costco webpage
Please I need firmware for Lorex LNK7232-N, can you help?
great review..im interested in getting this system..i wanted to know if u got the 2 way talk working as well how well does it work?
I am told 2 way does not work on this system, not sure if it was a system or camera limitation. I called them and asked. I can play an audio alert whenever i want but cannot speak through it.
thx for reply..the main reason i was getting this system was for the 2 way talk...thx for letting me know that it doesnt work...
@@spiderwillbe You may want to double check with them, some of their systems will do it..The person i spoke to told me i couldnt, worth a call or an instant chat on their website before you decide..i like the system its great
The camera quality isn't the same on the app play back on my mobile any ideas why?
You can change that in the settings
The 4k video is good if you have a event that needs details and police can use the footage ,but for you to view the same in 4k you'll need a 4k tv your pc monitor will not cut it.
Nice video. How bright is the flood light?
Its like a small led flashlight i guess. Bright enough to add a bit of light but its no flood lamp.
Rick van der Valk thank you for the info. We’re looking for a floodlight. Almost got this one if not for you!
Thanks for sharing, What resolution is your monitor?
my monitor connected to nvr is a 1080 currently.
How is fan noise and do you think it can modify to rackmount
I have the unit in an electrical closet and dont hear anything at all, it does make noise, my computer or laptop fans are louder than it though. As for the night vision its ok. If you watch the second lorex video i posted you can see some of the night time footage in it.
Yes you can get a quieter fan. Noctua NF-A4x20 FLX Premium-Quality Quiet 40mm Fan
Hang on hoping to shoot video tomorrow/tomorrow night so you can see
i posted new video hope that helped you
@@RickvanderValk14 thank you for all your time and you really do make informative videos can you tell me the model number for this package you bought
What settings did you use to not get notified by bugs
You would have to go into the Main menu, Event, Motion, select the channel you want to modify and then decrease the sensitivity. DONT forget to hit apply before you exit out of the menu.
Great in depth review and install, there was loads of good info in your video. If you could do a video or point us in a direction to understand more about ITTT, or how to set up the ITTT? Thanks, cool video.
Good idea i will. I will provide a 6 month update as well with the system . Have a few more tips
Excellent install video! How do I get internet to the unit? Do I run a cable to my computer/router? I know ALL the mechanical but NONE of the electrical/digital. Please help!
Yes run a cable from router to the device. That will connect it to your network. I am sure you got it all figured out now?
Great video! One thing thats been keeping me away is I have no experience installing myself however the fact that you have little experience as well gives me hope that I'd be able to install this as well.
Did the 60ft cable end up being enough for you?
Thank you!
Yep was just enough. I had one camera near back of house that had about 5 feet left.
Awesome..good job
Irek Trojanowski
How are two ways audio for these cameras? Rick say he could not get it to work, and I just wonder if you have any luck with the two ways audio. Thanks
Might be because it's 15fps in 4K. You can lower the resolution and increase fps. Internet viewing can be glitchy as well. The playback direct from nvr to monitor is best. App viewing will be glitchy.
Excellent job.
how much you get it for? is it 8 cam?
Got it on sale, I believe I paid $499 for it when i bought it.
Sorry and it was a 4 cam 4k 8MP system, I would have liked 6 cameras but dont need 8
eessh, sorry did a crappy job responding to your post...The system has room for 8 cameras but came with 4.
Now I want to go find your other videos on how you integrated into Home Automation.
can you tell me how to reset the passwords
I dont know you may have to contact lorex if you cant get in.
Outside motion has been detected."
I've been looking at this system for some time, I hear a lot of good and bad about its functions and software being horrible.
If you watch my other video you can hear the sounds the camera makes.
I am happy with system.
i post a follow up video with the lights
