    SoHyang doesn't have the most pleasant tone to some, but her technique is amazing, and girl, she can emulate emotions, you should check her performances and be open minded to see that.
    Check Where Are You, As I Live.

    I usually agree with most of what you say, but I must disagree with you now. There are many songs where So Hyang sings with emotion. Hug Me, Bridge Over Troubled Water, and Home are three which are absolutely beautiful. You may not have seen the right videos for her emotional wise.

      she always gives opinion based on 2 second clips. She did the same with David Phelps. Probably the reason she likes these "battle" type videos, too lazy to watch anything else and make an informed opinion.

    I fully understand that Sohyang’s vocals is not for everyone’s taste and so is every other vocalist out there. I’ve cried several times when listening to her singing since she conveys the pain, anger, joy, and every other emotions so properly with every song she sings. But I do understand if other people don’t enjoy her singing, emotion is 100% subjective so we can’t argue about that. I just think her vocals move me in ways like no others would, and even more than that, she objectively got the superior technique to deliver outstanding vocal performances AND preserve her beautiful voice in the long run

      Sunsun DKS Resonance and pushing aren’t the same. One is something that occurs when your vocal tract is free of tension and strain and is optimally opened (Sohyang). The other is when the note is too high, chesty, or poorly placed and comes out tight, forced, and pushed and sometimes lacks support (Dimash, Ailee, Ariana Grande, Demi Lovato, Adele, Sia, etc, etc.). If Georgina doesn’t like how resonant Sohyang is, she should say that and not spread misinformation that she’s pushy, because that’s factually false.

    • @iworshipgaysandsatan6822
      @iworshipgaysandsatan6822 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Sunsun DKS that’s not the case, she usually has big climaxes, yes, but to show just a clip of her hitting high notes and then conclude “all she does is high notes she has no emotion” is unfair to Sohyang and discredits the sheer emotions she pours into her songs. Watch a full performance of Sohyang and you’ll know, Hug me is a personal favourite.

    I think you would like Sohyang more if you actually watched full performances! You only ever see her in compilations hitting high notes, which are technically brilliant clips always, but they never give a full look at the emotion leading up to them. You reacted to “You Raise Me Up” from her and praised her tone and emotion actually. For more emotive performances, I’d recommend “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” “Arirang Alone,” “Everyone,” “Hug Me,” “Breathe,” etc.

  • @james-so8rz
    @james-so8rz 5 ปีที่แล้ว +26

    There are plenty of songs in which Sohyang songs with emotion, if you’ve only ever seen small clips of sohyang (which are usually just showing off her range), it’s no wonder why you think she lacks emotion.

    If you say Sohyang's belts are pushy pushy pushy, then try to belt/phrasing E5 F5 F#5 G5 G#5 A5 Bb5 B5 C6 continuously like Sohyang did and let see how u will sound . You will lose your voice for a year because you will strain the hell of it. For example, in your Let It Go cover, the last note Eb5 you sang was strained with tension and high larynx ; there’s was a big distinction in your usual tone when you’re sustaining that Eb5. Meanwhioe Sohyang had belted E5 F5 F#5 G5 G#5 A5 Bb5 B5 C6 continuously with perfect technique for 20 years and her voice is still fine now. She sang with flawless technique, and she has a lot of audiences who support her. She won and appeared in a lot of TV shows in Korea and she even have concert in foreign countries like Vietnam or Thailand. That's bullshit to say that she sing with no emotion. If she sing with no emotion, she would have no fan/no audience who support her

    There should be a difference between pushing a note and holding it with a soprano or tenor technique style. Their breath control and body muscles are built up for strong sustained long notes and vibrato. Another example is Lara Fabian, her techniques are impecable and yet her pop singing is nothing like katy perry or jessie j (maybe more like c.aguilera) It's all about personal taste

    So.....she liked Ailee....but find Sohyang pushy pushy pushy ? Thanks to this video, we all know she has a personal vendeta against Sohyang ( just watch all her video with sohyang and you'll see). You can dislike her tone.....but "pushy" is a technical point of view....or she's one the best singer out there technically. She isn't emotionnal ? where's the reaction of "Hug Me" ? "Where are you" ? "Everyone" ? "Do you know" ? "As I live" ? seeing short clips of her most popular notes aren't enough ( especially when those notes aren't emotionnal like Fate's belts, Lean on me's belts or Arirang alone's belts.). Plus, she praises Dimash, who his a huge pushy/show off singer but i'm not sure if she ever called him out for being too pushy or showing off too much. For Shannon, that last Eb5 sounded more pushy that the Bb5 of Sohyang. ALi was pushy and strain here....not a word about it. That head voice od Cha So Kyung was pushy......any word about it.

    Ailee (pronounced like alien without the N) is Korean-american. So she's a native english speaker. Shannon is half welsh I believe so she speaks English fluently too. That's the reason for their pronunciation. Hyorin (like yo with the h sound at the beginning and rin) is a phenomenal singer. Sohyang (is pronounced like so and then hyang (as in yin and yang with a h sound at the beginning)), Taeyeon (pronounced tay-yon) is consistently voted one of the best singers in Korea. You should react to her from the TV show called 'begin again' (the idea is that korean idol singers basically start from being unknown again in a foreign country) where Taeyeon was busking in Germany singing Adele. It was beautiful! Also, I think Taeyeon in her sub group band called TTS singing destiny's child cater2u (the clip where two of the members are wearing hats) was phenomenal! OH THE HARMONIES. I know how you like a good harmony! :P

    You see I have watched hundreds of reaction videos to a lot of her songs from vocal coaches and non vocal coaches alike that have all had similar raving reactions and I've watched many of them myself and they have given me goosebumps every single time. So I guess I'm just confused by her comments of lacking emotion in her performances. Her performances convey tons of emotion and I've watched some pretty controlled and solemn reactors and coaches but they all say that her technique, breath control, vocal range and versatility are among some of the top in the world of vocal performers as well as her vocal discernment to how she approaches and arranges songs in her performances and I understand to each their own as far as musical preferences go but as far as pegging her for singing without emotion and being forced in note choices I don't really see it. I'm far from a professional in any sense but in my experience forced notes and poor vocal choices have certain results that I don't hear with her singing at all. Typically in my experience if a singer is showing forced notes or yelly notes their pitch is off for one their not in the proper registers for notes they are trying to hit and they're trying to hit high notes and runs etc...when it's not called for. I have never heard that from So Hyang her musical choices are not out bounds and are within the parameters of songs she is singing in her performances I have been involved in and around music (singers, instrumentalists, and bands from just about every genre) my whole life so again I"m not a professional by any means but I have certainly learned a thing or two about music but again to each their own and I think it's obvious I don't agree but again all I can really say is to each their own.

    The most subjective coach I've ever seen.Of course, there can be subjective views as a vocal coach. However, without even listening to a number of performances by certain singers, he recklessly dismisses them as lacking emotion. And she's been trained in a tone of voice that's familiar to her ears. So she says in a way that there is no emotion when the tone is harsh. Then those who watch it admit that the singer is a completely emotionless singer. He is a vocal coach who has no objectivity at all. Do you think this person is a vocal coach?

    Shannon was good, Park was great. For the rest of them I didn't care.
    Now, I understand why you say that Sohyang is pushy etc. Her tone is polarizing for a lot of people because it is so resonant. It can be off-putting. But for me it isn't. She sounds perfect in every performance. And I don't think she lacks and emotional quality. Emotions also depends on what song are you singing. Lean on, although beautiful, for me isn't emotionally packed, at least not the version Sohyang sang. It was more inspiring.
    I just think her voice is naturally thin and placed higher than with other women usually that she chooses to create a bigger sound in order to have a bigger impact, otherwise it could be too squeaky or weak sounding. But, we like what we like. Singers have their own stylistic choices and we either like them or not :)

      @@ismaelm.mbaangue9147 I understand. Sohyang is a gospel influenced vocalist,specifically western gospel which uses high belts as a way to convey emotion and she isnt afraid to show that. The problem with youtubers is that they only showcase her belts because they think only "range/belts is/are what makes a great vocalist. Sohyang has range but she uses it wisely. She is an amazing emoter especially since she arranges most of her own performances

    When people are singing a song that is not their native language expect an accent. I really don't feel it should be an issue. Hearing clips and parts don't provide the feeling. It is better to hear the whole performance.

      @Becca no, saying Sohyang is pushy is just proving how little she knows about technique. And she rarely even provides any constructive criticism. Saying she dislikes someone's tone is subjective after all.

    As I'm sitting in bed, relaxing with a wee bit of The Divine Miss G, I find my feathers ruffled by all these comments by people relentlessly attacking the woman in whom I feel I've found a personal friend, the creator of this content, saying the same thing over and over. (By "feathers ruffled", I mean I am ready to put my shoes on and take my earrings off, you feel me?!) They aren't saying much - I've just used my bookkeeping software to take it down down and add it all up, and it may be true I'm no expert on the subject matter at hand, but as a master of social arithmetiche, I've found the sum of the comments in question to be, "I disagree with what you said, which you acknowledged would happen when you expressed your opinion in this and many other videos, but since I have nothing better to do, a personality disorder that is thirsty, some keyboard courage, an inferiority complex and no original thoughts, I'm going to jump on the 'Lets Attack The Divine Miss G' train, so I too can be a part of the group whose apparent goal is to display the synchronicity of our idiosy collectively!" If someone had a difference of opinion stated with conviction or at least one expressed in a way that might indicate the presence of the wherewithall to converse about the subject, that might be different, but it's certainly not the case here. One person disagrees, another adds something - fine. Difference of opinion help keep the planet spinning. The rest of you guys who had nothing to add and disagreed only to disagree should utilize the thumbs up feature under the comment with which you agree and head over to the comments section of a video with content with which you DO agree, where you will still find yourself without anything to say that hasn't already been said. That fact speaks loudly about the content of your character, or lack thereof, and says NOTHING about the content of this video or it's channel or Miss G herself. Your commentary is not only inappropriate, unnecessary, and empty, it says you should consider focusing your effort on filling out a psych evaluation or commenting on a message board for people who disagree. I was uncertain why it was that I couldn't hear this video very well, but I very quickly discovered the noise was coming from static stupidity in the comments section where the faceless wonders of the internet troll for something shiny they attempt to dull. I have a feeling this won't do much to help that sound, but, as a fan of The Honest Vocal Coach, I felt overwhelmingly compelled to bring what I had to say to the proverbial table.
    Thank you for another great video, Miss G. Keep em coming! You really are Divine, a gift to the TH-cam community, and to the world at large! These videos are a great vehicle to get a cup of YOU to the masses. Your spirit transcends the content of these videos, which are their own brand of brilliant, but it is you and your innate ability to connect with your viewers so effortlessly that has me awestruck and gobsmacked AND THEN feeling as if I were personally attacked by these comments, even though I don't think I've ever even commented on one of your fantastic videos. Knowing when one has something to bring to the table is a gift. Knowing when one doesn't is perhaps more significant because of how rare it is to see a person demonstrate the possession of such knowledge, which can be tricky since it's only shown by their silence. This TH-cam channel, it's content, and the subsequent comments provide case and point on this subject; it's what you bring to the table that makes me call you The Divine Miss G with an audience that spans the globe. It's also explains the Negativity Collective, aka the "Lets Attack 'the Divine Miss G' Train." For some folks, the observation of a person who brought something to the table of the world makes the fact they didn't bring it, or anything for that matter, more obvious. Although my hope for them is that inside of this, they find inspiration to go out into the world and gather something which could be brought to the metaphoric table, but until they do, they will continue to criticize what someone else brought in an effort to fill that space and call it "a difference of opinion." The people, the public, your audience, come to that which is refreshing, that which quenches the thirst of something in them and stimulates a part of themselves they enjoy interacting with. Even if they pop a squat over it, enjoy the satisfaction of quenching the thirst of both the naysayers and your superfans. I recently heard this new country artist, Allie Colleen, tell an interviewer of her excitement when she began to get cruel comments on TH-cam. She said it wasnt until then she knew she was doing something right. ;-) Good day loves!

      Well, we get upset because she watches three seconds of a Sohyang Video and says some stupid comment, the thing is that after seeing her sing this song Michael Bolton the guy in that video with So Hyang and Ailee, he invited Sohyang to sing with him on his tour you can watch it here on youtube, th-cam.com/video/Mrpe8WZ5cXA/w-d-xo.html, she also sang with Kirk Franklin th-cam.com/video/xQEtZTAP8b0/w-d-xo.html, she sang with Brian McNight, and with Josh Groban and many more, and for the Christian movie she did the version of I can only imagine, she has tour in the US and has sang in a lot of churches here in the US, aside from her concerts and OSTs for dramas and albums and her 12 years of career, so for being someone with no emotions really she has been invited to sing with a lot of emotions, I wonder how many emotional songs has Ms. Georgina has done...

    Also how can you feel emotions if you just watching a 3-5 seconds clip? The song's arrangement in the video was made to be uplifting🤨
    You also getting annoyed with her pronunciation but you kept calling her "So Hayang"💀

    Emotionless? What? Kim Sohyang is known for her powerful and emotional vocals, as well as remarkable musical homogeneity and meticulous voice control. Maybe it's not her taste, understandable, and that's okay, it's not my taste in music either, but to say her performances lack emotion is a gross mistake.
