I had a warlock once where his entire backstory was that his mom got into a fairy tail scenario where she could have the love of her dreams if she gave up her firstborn, she accepted and he was given to the Fae as a baby, who proceeded to just raise him as their own. He’s now on an epic quest to find his birth family while his Fae mom is chasing him, trying to find her kid.
That's adorable!
What are his intentions towards his birth 'family'? Because with this, admittedly little, information I am beginning to doubt the biological mother's worthiness of having a child.
Personally I find blood bonds overrated. That fae is his mother now.

Well that’s the thing right? 1: he doesn’t know she gave him up for that, he was told she gave him up because she couldn’t take care of him. 2: there’s really no plan that he has, he just wants to meet her, i’m planning on him doing a whole arc where he realizes how bad she is.

First time playing dnd and my warlock was thrown into a wall by the barbarian, second session he was shoved into the ground outside a school like a tree 😂

Maybe the mutual parental issues are why Warlock and Rogue tend to get along.

What if the Warlock was the prince(ss) to the group that trained the Rogue, and that’s why they can just jive like that with jokes no one gets but them. The Warlock and Rogue became friends and were sent on a mission to find a member of the McGuffin family to bring back to the leader.

My favorite class is Warlock. My favorite character I never to play was a Halfling who made a pact with Asmodeus so she could protect Squirrels.
She’s out there protecting the squirrels now. She just didn’t need the party to do it.
My druid character has a pet squirrel they picked up when the dm wasn't looking, and now it's a constant competition between the dm and me to kill the squirrel/keep him alive respectively. Almost 2 years in and I'm still winning. My druid would absolutely love to meet your halfling, I think they would be good friends :)

You can easily homebrew a Warlock patron that isn't "evil," and make a Lawful Good Warlock. You can also homebrew your campaign to revolve around a society of Lawful Good Warlocks. Use your imagination. 🤦

Mistranslated the name of the demon she summoned. Instead of getting a Prince of the Nine Hells, she...got his stoner younger brother. He has actually sent her for kebab when he had the munchies before. It's hilarious...and she really doesn't want the rest of us knowing who her patron is because it's embarrassing. We all love it.
Pal-lock with a celestial patron is really powerful and a nice change from the usual edgy Cthuhlu worshipping Warlock
My padlock has a hexblade as a Patron. The Goddess sealed inside was quite lonely for millennia until my Warlock found her in a Geology expedition and rescued her. Now, they're best pals. Also, he has a loving family and 2 younger siblings.
I was kind of expecting the Celestial there...just one that's entirely out of left field because I've had that happen a few times in games where it's a strange mix of things followed by absolute confusion when they realize the warlock is the exact opposite of most.
There was also the Celestial warlock in one game I ran where she kind of messed up with making the pact...and has a desperate celestial trying to reign in the lunatic who thinks she got something nightmarish that she's attempting to bring glory to the name of by being a psychotic mess. Things like being sent to save a kid...only for the party to then need to stop her from sacrificing the kid to her patron...all while having her as cheerfully psychotic. Think of Harley Quin amped up with magic and thinking she's the cultist of an unholy abomination against reality and wondering when the tentacles are going to show up

I made a unique warlock for a Dragonheist campaign. He was a Goliath Warlock with the Fathomless as his patron and wielded an anchor as his weapon (retextured Great Club.) Basically, he was a deck hand for a ship that got attacked by pirates, and he was left to drown in the sea. However, his patron Leviathan formed a pact with him and saved his life, and he washed ashore outside Waterdeep with nothing but the clothes on his back, and the anchor of his ship.
Hey my warlock was left to drown in the sea too. Only, he’s a water genasi and now his leather chest armor is made of the faces of the crew that left him to drown. But he’s a lighthearted fella
that sounds awfully familiar..... it reminds me of a fjord for some reason....

It's funny to me how edgy Warlocks are in stereotypes, because while I never played him, my DM and I collectively invented a warlock who was a gambler who was just super positive. He made his pact when he met an otherworldly entity, who just wanted to experience the mortal coil, in jail, as he was jailed for illegal gambling (he's a nice guy, but he had an addiction). I really want to play him eventually, but that group dissolved, and it's been hard to find another.
The warlock I created recently was actually a Warlock Bard... You can probably guess where it went from there. Cthulu had never felt so boned in his life.
If you're fine with playing online, I know of a couple dnd servers on discord. Thought I do also love the positive warlock idea
My half-elf Warlocks pact was made so his mother wouldn't have to bury him.
My Lawfull good Bard is currently semi-possessed by a wraith. While she's trying to use me for some evil revenge, I actually decided that I wasn't going to let people exorcise me. Since then I got some glimpses of her past life, being a young girl sacrificed by a cult led by her mother. I'm currently trying to convince her that while she did live through horrible events, she shouldn't let her suffering define her. My childlike minded bard is determined to help the wraith get over her traumas, and maybe one day, he might convince her to use her power at his side to prevent people from suffering a similar fate. If I can do that, sure, I'll take warlock levels :).
My actual Warlock is a cinnamon roll noble that wants to recover his position as a Lord to stop a civil war. Instead of daddy issues, he suffers the brother issues of having being betrayed and dethroned by his big brother.

I've got a goliath ranger built and waiting for an excuse to use, but as I'm usually the DM, probably won't happen.

I am been thinking of playing a Dwarf ranger or Dwarf wizard for my next character.
I get to play my first ranger tonight! They’re a warforged gloom stalker named Shasta who I managed to roll fucking dope stats for. They used to be part of a conservation program culling invasive elementals (favored enemy) in a swamp but they decided to retire and now they’re taking part in a free for all coliseum fight to join a queen’s retinue.
Maybe I'm still thinking too much in 3.5 but those numbers look pretty good to me. Except con and cha. Rgr doesn't need cha though. If you do point buy as someone suggested you could take the points from dex and add them to con. Taking one point from con will give 4 points and that would boost con to 14.
Unless irs a one to one point buy then it would only make it 12 but that's still 1 extra hp per level.

I don't remember Malfoy having a dragon.
Malfoy wasn't even very cunning. He was just a stuck-up jerk who relied on his family's power and reputation (and Crabbe and Goyle, of course) to back him up. Once the Malfoys fell out of favor with the BBEG, his snide bravado evaporated.
"Satan is my Dad" in the thumbnail reminds me of a set of campaigns played in the same universe. Campaign one ended with DM getting bored, so he gave us an orb of destruction. An Artifact created by Ao himself, to destroy and rebuild the material plane. The Entire Party was like "We need to make sure this never gets in the wrong hands." My PC was like "Lemme make sure this gets into more important hands.", Misty stepped in, snatched the orb from the paladin, misty stepped out, flew someplace else and decided to deal with Asmodeus. Asmodeus offered a million gp, to which i obviously said no given that currency wont matter if the world goes down. So i asked for a date with glasya. Campaign then ended within 20 minutes with an epilogue of how i ended up happily ever after married to glasya in malbolge. Fast forward to the next campaign, and im playing a warlock with glasya as not just a sugar mommy, but literal mommy.

No Paladin in the group, 2 Fighters and one horny bard.
I like how everyone makes fun of warlocks as the dark and edgy class but all you need is an Archfey patron, Magic Initiate->Find Familiar, the right invocations, and a DM willing to let you reflavor Eldritch Blast to fire pink hearts and you've got a magical girl.
(The most important invocation is Mask of Many Faces. You wear your magical girl uniform and cast Disguise Self once an hour to hide it. Then when combat starts, you drop Disguise Self as your transformation sequence.)
That's so fun! My Celestial Warlock's Eldritch blast is mini shooting stars. So sparkly!
My warlock has a pact with a clown fiend and his eldritch blast is just a bunch of purple fumes, confetti's, sparkles, and balloons.

I have an idea for a warlock whose deal is that he has to advertise his patron as if he was in an infomercial trying to sell you something.

Dhampir Warlock Hexblade was my favorite thing ever. Decided he was a "Bound Swordsman in training." Survive until level 3 and take pact of the blade, then let your power flourish! And dont forget you can change what weapon is summoned. Was constantly swapping weapons like a Final Fantasy protagonist, and it was amazing

This was clearly incorrect. Everybody knows there are only two types of Warlock. Those who's patron is a sword (Hexblade) and those who's patron is Eldritch Blast.
There is no other patron. Some may pretend to worship some "Fathomless" or "Genie" or elsewise. But their true patron is Eldritch Blast.
My Pact of the Tome Warlock misses so often with eldritch blast that he rarely uses it. Instead, he uses Thorn Whip to yoink people into Cloud Of Daggers for about half the combats we get into.

Concept: wait to finish Ranger until you’ve done every other class, then fill out ranger as a backup character for a high-level pc that just died so that ranger actually gets to geek out about all the cool stuff they get.
My warlocks background was basically becoming so fascinated when researching ancient lore she accidentally ended up in a pact with the Night Serpent.

I still want to be able to play my two ideas for warlock. One is what th part thinks is a halfling, but really just a human child that was basically raised by their patron, as well as by the party. The other is one where they accidentally made a warlock contract when marrying his succubus girlfriend, and neither planned for the marrige to be a contract. They just love eachother.
thinking back to my warlock who essentially ran out of spell slots because an invisible stalker pissed her off.... in my defence i thought we were going to have a long rest unfortunately however, we arrived in a devil infested hideout and i have 43hp.

Honestly, I'm starting to feel really bad for the Ranger, waiting for their player to create them.
You know what would be nice? If their episode was just done straight, and was an honest-to-goodness attempt at making a high level ranger with their new features from Tasha's (thus why it takes so long for his player to actually complete the sheet). He deserves as much, been too long since we saw some ranger pride.

Made a warlock whose patron convinced him that he was actually just a wizard. It was pretty funny.
My only warlock was… well his whole point was that he was basically a blank slate without much of his own wants and just saw himself as an extension of his patron’s will.
Said patron was basically the Genie from Aladin.

A warlock I played was a butler for an undead vampire (the type of butler who will defend his patron). On top of that he builds his body up by grafting monster parts/organs into him

I like that idea. It’s the same being every time you make a character and they remember the past characters. They’re their own person, likes, dislikes, desires, etc. Also, having commentary from them during character creation, love it.
Going into the video I was thinking "you literally can't have a warlock without daddy issues." And there it was. It's a rule. My warlock has daddy issues. Your warlock has daddy issues. It's a law of nature.
You are only half right, mine had issues, but resolved them, and then got his warlock pact.

My Warlock has a loving, accepting, mostly Good Aligned Family (some like my character are Neutral Aligned though). Her issues is the Corruption in various sections of society.
She is a Chaotic Neutral Female Shadar-Kai Acolyte background Undying Warlock.
She chose to accept that Pact willingly as a way to eventually get rid of the Corruption.
Gotta say my favorite character so far. Warlock blade pact/phantom rogue multiclass combo. To say that I feel powerful, is an understatement.
Everyone hates on Rangers but in all honesty, they're my second favorite class to play, behind Sorcerer

I had a warlock/bard as a backup for a campaign but sadly the group disbanded. They were a college student who lost all their scholarships because their documents were forged as they werent exactly citizens. The headmistress of the college offered a deal for to become her servant and upon agreeing revealed that she was a lesser demon who wanted to surpass the others. He is basically tasked to go around looking for information that could help her achieve her goal while she is stuck running the school and if he is successful she will make it so no one else knows the forgeries and will give the necessary items for him to start his career in music
Not gonna lie, for a moment there I thought your DnD group was disbanded because someone got deported.

I haven't played a DnD campaign yet but I have always felt drawn to Warlock and now after seeing this... it all makes sense.
After laying a warlock for the last few years I reminded my DM of just how rarely I seek a short rest. Even with 4 (and a 5th from the rod) I rarely tap out. (War 17/Rouge 2)
Yeah, it's kind of funny this gets associated with Warlocks when a lot of martial classes want to take short rests themselves when they can. This just means that they don't gas out for the entire day like wizards or sorcerers who blow their load in one or two battles.
First warlock I played was a ditzy blonde bar maid who could barely wield a dagger. She wanted to go on an adventure so she made a pact with an Eldritch horror... She had two loving parents. And she loved them both.
The second warlock I played was a lot more serious. Undead Pact and she was promised by her patron to keep her from death. Since Assassins were after her. Her mother was missing in her life but her father was very loving and her stepmother was also a very loving mother.
The second character was a coming of age story with a negative character arc and a allegory for unwanted puberty. This might sound weird but werewolves are used in similar ways in stories so don't @ me. She was a blast to play because I got to play through a nieve noble girl who didn't understand what was appropriate to say and was a bit danger prone to developing into a rather cold hearted hero who was clearly traumatized by the adventure she was on all the while she was taking on more and more aspects of an undead and trying to hide her inhuman appearance and physical changes from the group.
I made a bard who multiclassed into warlock of the great old one once because his patron heard his song and thought it was a summoning. He calls her Jolene.

Am currently trying to workshop a warlock with an overly tragic backstory who then just got therapy and decided to try and be a functional member of society, might have to take some inspiration from this sketch lol

I have a warlock (formerly a bard) whose patron is a witch that happens to be his past girlfriend. The entire reason he is on a journey is to find a way to dispel the seal that prevents her resurrection.
Also, my gf RPs as the witch and is a lot of fun to play.
my partner made a warlock character once. i haven't seen them use it yet but i love the concept. the warlock goes and sleeps with this one god every, like, sunday or smth, and in return is given strength. apparently the god just plucks him off the ground. its great.

I have an idea for a Warlock that I've found pretty fun. Basically, he's a geanie Warlock who is a member of a foreign family of nobility, and they've built their fortunes on the most profitable resource from their country: Spices. Coriander, pepper, salt, oregano, nutmeg, *cough cough* lil' bit of cocaine... And whoever is next in line for the family business gets to become the next patron to the Family's genie, whom they serve because the genie granted the family's wish to become the wealthiest family in their country centuries ago.
Anyway, when he finally received the title, he decided to sneak aboard one of their trading ships to see how the business works. It did not go well. (Mutiny, storm, attacked by pirates. I would let the DM choose) and now he's lost, trying to scrape up enough money to get back home. He voluntarily chooses not to tell his family what happened because he knows they would be absolutely livid if they knew he snuck out. Thought it would be really fun, especially playing with the Genie's vessel, which would be a locket with his family crest on it.
Edit: ALSO! Why is Maelstrom not on the Fathomless Warlock spell list?! I mean, c'mon!
I have a Warlock who’s entire backstory was that their patron god was their lover. When the party found out, the bard wanted to have a threeway. This storyline awaits conclusion and I love what I have spawned
Always loved the warlock in 5e you wanna melee spell class warlocks gotchu. You want control invocations for eldritch blast gotchu. Unique character building while bringing some of that sweet sweet edge.

I play a Celestial warlock in one of my campaigns! It's the best and I love her so much. I feel like celestial warlock is overlooked so often but it's so powerful, we just hit level 10 and the temp hp is so clutch :3

I'm currently playing a Noble Hexblade Warlock and loving it. Crowning moment of funny so far is a psycho Blood Hunter chick and I were playing Good Cop/Bad Cop in interrogations.
I like how intimating he’s going.
My warlock's a goblin whose clan destroyed eachother over some treasure when she was a toddler. She was thrown into the ocean during the scuffle and was saved by pirates. She was brought to a eldritch sea entity that had a soft spot for children and raised my goblin as her own. When my character came of age however, her adoptive mother changed their relationship to just be patron and warlock.
My character had also joined a pirate crew and viewed the captain as a father figure. He died tragically by being eating alive from the inside by tiny crabs. He came back as a revenant and swore revenge on the crew that left him behind.
So my warlock has a mother that refuses to acknowledge her as a daughter anymore, and a father whose a goliath zombie trying to kill her. She got both mommy and daddy issues

I think my favorite warlock I've ever played was an....interesting fellow. Basically daddy and mommy issues incarnate. He was a half-drow raised in the Nine Hells by a devil lord I homebrewed up. Later on I respecced more points into sorcerer for the character arc I was doing, but more or less he was trying to run from his adopted father (The devil lord I mentioned) to hunt down his birth parents to wreak bloody vengeance on them for technically sacrificing him as an infant. Meanwhile adopted demon pops is gifting his angsty murder-son magic powers on the sly until his own blossom without the kid knowing.
I was seriously expecting something with celestial/fey/genie vs fiend patron

I used Tulock's Ghostrider build as a template for current character, but it's really an awesome build for a fire themed death knight. He's a reborn oathbreaker multiclassed into Fiendish Bladelock and with the right invocations, he's playing like Talion for SoW. My DM offscreen killed my last PC in-between campaigns, so he's pissed off and ready for round 2 in our current one.
