I figured that Hals ring couldnt contact Oa because Abin Sur's ring is still active in the wild west Era, because he's still alive(presumably, not sure how long his race lives to, so it could just as easily be any one of the ring bearers from that specific ring's user ancestry), and each ring probably has a unique IP address to connect to the main router(battery) on Oa. The current Era ring would probably supercede that connection to Oa because it's been constantly connected to it, while Hals appears out of thin air, and tries to put his future key into a lock that's already got a key in it.
    P. S. Jesus, my analogies were all over the place this time, hahah.

I really do enjoy how pleasant this book is. It's just a nice adventure. The art is so good great, the layouts and panel work are phenomenal! Derington's is what I'd describe (especially the texture and detail on his character designs) as "toyetic", aided by the vibrancy of Dave Stewart's colors. They're a great pairing and the style provides a greater sense of weight and presence to the character, particularly on closer perspectives.
Along with work by folks like Paul Dini, I kind of consider this comic's Batman as like one of the pivotal Batmen in the sense that you can kind of have it all. You can have the street level stuff, this globetrotting superhero, the detective skills, the tech-savy gadgeteer, space-faring, time-hopping, etc. You can have Batman in all these crazy scenarios and have him be competent and aware while still being a relatively ordinary person in temperament and attitude. He can have trouble and unfortunate circumstances without falling into angst and despair. I really dig the work Bendis did here with Bruce's character overall and the overall tone of this story.
It's just a good superhero book in the most 4-color way imaginable!

If I ever get my dream of one day writing a Nightwing story I’m definitely stealing your dinosaur island idea but instead of it being like a family training mission it’s like Dick or Bruce’s bachelor party and everyone who goes is like “cool we get to just run around Dinosaur island and see dinosaurs” while Jim is just like “I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A NAME” while running from a T-Rex

On paper this story sounds like a stupid mess, but having read it, its actually incredibly coherent and easy to follow and badass all the way through. Sometimes bendis can be a great writer

okay i love this story and i’ve read it three or four times now but watching this i’ve just now realized that Vandal Savage lived through the same 150 years three times and that’s kinda funny to me. like we could get a sequel of him breaking out from hex’s thing and finding the other two versions of himself to form like a Savage Cabal or something like that

Me: Yeah, makes sense, cool, epic, tough, the classic favorite dinos--
Ethan: I like the little arms.🙂

As one of those enterprising shmucks who insists on buying every single DC Walmart comic while they are available, the actual content of the issues is mostly an ancillary detail (though their story selections have been consistently amazing across the board; Super-Sons in the Titans Giants, which you guys covered not so long ago, is my absolute favorite feature of the archival stuff). Bendis's "Batman Universe" saga, however, was a sheer delight to discover every month. Batman cracking jokes and romping through the wider reaches of DC minutiae was one of the line's finest features, and inspired me to pursue some of the characters and worlds briefly visited therein on my own reading quest. That's what I now look for in every new Giant: interesting characters or ideas that I can then follow through the wider DC catalog for further enjoyment.

Comic books stores are the modern day equivalent of Blockbuster and Hollywood. Nobosy is going to Walmart to buy books and when it comes to toys Walmart is least concerned with selling reading material to children. Comixology and going completely digital is the only move that makes sense and will actually make money. The walmart deal could've be perfectly executed ans it wouldn't have a made a difference. Digital will always do better.
