No, honestly I think you’re so wrong. It’s very ‘Patti LuPone’, but NOT particularly good. Go back to the original, Julie Covington, or even Sinead O’Connor, for really impressive performances.
@Parker930 The title of the song comes from an epitaph on a plaque at Eva Perón's grave in the La Recoleta Cemetery in Buenos Aires. The plaque was presented by the city's taxi drivers' union and roughly translates as: "Don't cry for me Argentina, I remain quite near to you."[6] Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times wrote "For years I have wondered, during 'Don't Cry for Me, Argentina,' why we were not to cry. Now I understand: We need not cry because (a) Evita got everything out of life she dreamed of, and (b) Argentina should cry for itself. Even poor Juan Peron [sic] should shed a tear or two; he is relegated...to the status of a 'walker,' a presentable man who adorns the arm of a rich and powerful woman as a human fashion accessory."[7] The song's lyrics are a "string of meaningless platitudes" according to Rice, who felt that it worked as an emotionally intense but empty speech by a "megalomaniac woman" trying to win the favor of the Argentines. It features the lyrics "And as for fortune, and as for fame / I never invited them in / Though it seemed to the world they were all I desired / They are illusions" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don%27t_Cry_for_Me_Argentina

I remember being about 7 and the commercial would come on for Evita. I was mesmerized. I have loved her ever since. Finally got to see her show at a local theatre near where she grew up.
I could not be more in love with this video. Patti’s beautiful face, the tears rolling, and especially the way she sings “all you have to do is look at me to know” SO emotionally! I get chills every time ❤️❤️❤️ one of the most talented stars of all time!!!
Listening after watching Patti playing a "good witch" in "Penny Dreadful." She can embody any character with raw energy and truth. And her voice is non pareil. Brava!
Wish the Mrs. and I could've seen Ms. Lupone on Broadway doing *Evita! Whereas we enjoyed a small OFF-Broadway Troupe in a small Theatre in Toronto and being a small venue they did a pretty decent job that time~ But would have been GREAT could we had ever experienced Patti on Broadway?
As a little kid growing up in the 70's she did this play for years. It sold out back to back every year. It was the hottest ticket to get. I can still hear the TV commercials in my head. She sold out moths at a time. Evita was a huge hit. Very greatful my mom took me to see Anne as a kid sparked my love of theater. I've tried to pass it on to my child as well. I wish I could have seen Evita.
For all the people who say that Madonna sang this better think again. First the song is about a megalomaniac trying to convince her fans that she is still great. That's how Tim Rice described it. It's supposed to be a plea for understanding and acceptance, not a protest. Madonna sang it in a studio and used auto-tune. After that it was sent to a mixing board where they probably spent a few days putting it together. LuPone sang it live on with an orchestra. Being able to sing in a studio where you can stop and start time and time again and being able to sing live in front of an orchestra on stage are two different things.
For all it’s worth, Madonna was still perfectly cast in that movie. Everything fits for her, from her looks to the vocals. But I agree with you that Patti Lupone is excellent in this live performance.
@@daphnemaxwell149 doesn't change the fact they can edit her voice and the song. Doesn't change the fact that she can take a break and continue singing after that. Live performance and studio is being judged differently for a reason. Should we try again so you can understand?

First Broadway show I ever saw. Her and Many Patankin, what a pair!! It was THE most beautiful thing I ever saw. I cried through most of it.
Happy myself finally to see Patti do this in video. She won me in the Sondheim "Ladies Who Lunch" and I've enjoyed her voice elsewhere, but here is a great actress And singer. Powerful and vulnerable, Evita. Wow.
real tears. impressive all the way around. The most iconic actress in the most iconic role of the modern era. There will never be another more perfect marriage of actor to role, imho She simply is, was, ever always will be...."Evita"!
Damn she is so young.
She is brilliant.
I remember seeing her and Mandy Patinkin back in 1979 or 1980. I was just a kid but I was floored, amazed, and hypnotized by their performances.
First musical I ever saw was Evita and I I still have the Playbill! I bought the record and listened to it on repeat. Still get chills listening to her.
I saw her performance at Grammys and instantly became her fan.
I remember being about 7 and the commercial would come on for Evita. I was mesmerized. I have loved her ever since. Finally got to see her show at a local theatre near where she grew up.
I too saw her on Broadway in 1980. All I could say is WOW!! Just WOW!!
Best rendition. Ms. LuPone is EPIC.
A performance that will never be surpassed.
honestly
shes so
amazing at this
im in awe
I could not be more in love with this video. Patti’s beautiful face, the tears rolling, and especially the way she sings “all you have to do is look at me to know” SO emotionally! I get chills every time ❤️❤️❤️ one of the most talented stars of all time!!!
Brought tears to my eyes! Was not expecting that, what a phenomenal talent
Patti is one of the Greats🎶I saw this on Broadway in 1980🎶🙏
Out of all I hVe watched on TH-cam, singing this song, I like this artist the best!
She is a goddess. Listen to the whole original Broadway cast recording (with her). The whole album is amazing !!!!
Listening after watching Patti playing a "good witch" in "Penny Dreadful." She can embody any character with raw energy and truth. And her voice is non pareil. Brava!
Hi pretty I love the simplicity of your profile and I would love to know more about you
When a performance is priceless it bring tears to your eyes, legendary
Legendary... Gives me chills every time!
Wow best acting of this beautiful song I’ve seen yet.
One of thee most AMAZING LIVE performances Ive EVER seen!!! ....IT'S STILL gets right into my soul...Thank you Patti.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Absolutely breathtaking. Power and vulnerability combined.
Thank you for uploading this!
The PERFECT interpretation of this VERY BEAUTIFUL SONG!!!
Young Lilia!
I remember the commercials
God she’s amazing. The best version of this song to date!
I think Lea Salonga is better
Excuse me, autotune did not exist when the movie was produced. Sorry, try again.
Movies have room to be “more perfect” than a play
@@daphnemaxwell149 doesn't change the fact they can edit her voice and the song. Doesn't change the fact that she can take a break and continue singing after that. Live performance and studio is being judged differently for a reason. Should we try again so you can understand?
