    That joke of an Ipad they did us dirty. I was hoping to switch from Samsung since their ipad looks amazing even more for someone who is in college. Hardware is 100% software, which is a joke! They need something like Dex when using that OP keyboard.

      Fully agree. And I think there is still a lot to improve in smartphones. I think we will look at the iPhone 16 in 15 years like now we look at the first iPhone and will think wow this looks really antiquated and ancient.

    I agree SO MUCH on this video! Very good video! But never forget the incremental improvements. After X years of that you will be chocked by the difference. Compare with hair and nails: you will see a minor change after 1 month. But after many many months you will see a huge difference.
    If I would make my own timeline for major changes for iPhone since 2007 I would do it very similar to yours. But I would skip 2020 (5G) because 4G is fast enough. You only need 5G in some special cases and this is for a very small minority of the customers.

    I would argue that if you've got a 13 or older, especially if you live in an area that gets crazy natural disasters it would be worth it to upgrade to at least the iphone 14 just for the satellite connectivity.

    I have a completely different opinion and I think smartphones are great devices and there is no real alternative around the corner and my question is do we really need one?
    The convenience you have using a smartphone is just too good because it allows you to keep the device in your hand and communicate in privacy especially when you are in public. And it is also very comfortable to use...and not just the iPhone but smartphones in general.
    Maybe AR/VR devices could be an alternative but they have too many flaws and inconveniences using them like you need some sort of input via your voice or gestures and how is it supposed to work in public without making gestures or talking to the device which I think most people would find very annoying and uncomfortable to do.
    So I prefer having a smartphone in my hand and can choose how I want to communicate...via typing, voice mail and so on...
    What I agree on though is that the innovation is kinda stuck and moves slowly which doesnt mean that it completely stopped. But I think the yearly cycle of new iPhones should stop, maybe they should release an iPhone every 3 years or so because innovation doesnt move as fast as to justify releasing a new iPhone every year.

    ok i was trying to see where your point was going, and then finally you said the nonsense about ar/vr being the next thing. clearly you dont know anything as ar/vr headset sales have stagnated hard and nobody really cares for the tech, including myself who has a vr headset.

    • @grantedgeek
      @grantedgeek  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      AR is what’s next whether we like it or not. Just like electric vehicles. eventually people will adopt the technology simply because they’re tired of traditional phones. AR/VR is still a very young technology regarding its implementation to the main stream (it’s technically not even mainstream yet) so to condemn it so early and it’s life cycle is unreasonable.

    • @bulletz4life
      @bulletz4life 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@grantedgeek VR is a young technology? the oculus cv1 and htc vive both debuted in 2016. Its been 8 years of development with no significant change to the core issues, which is the fact that it gets boring and useless within a month of purchase. Even the games still suck with the exception of half life alyx. If you recall, there was a massive difference from the first model iphone to the iphone 6s, thats the same 8 year span that vr headsets fail to develop anything useful.
      As of last year, there was a 24% drop in sales in vr headsets, just think about that.

    The dynamic island is the only noteworthy feature that’s been added to the iPhone since the iPhone 12.
    All of these iPhone models have been the exact same:
    iPhone 13
    iPhone 14
    iPhone 15
    iPhone 16
    So that’s now four years of making (and selling) the same phone. People claim that Google and Samsung do the same thing with their flagship models (which is true)…but at least Google & Samsung provide phones that come in different form-factors.
    In my opinion, Apple shouldn’t even release another iPhone ever again. Let this iPhone 16 be the last slab phone model they ever make…because now it has to be all about Augmented Reality & Hologram technology
    What I’d like to see from Apple is the best AR glasses that don’t need to be tethered to an iPhone or iWatch. If we can hold these big smartphones in our hands all day long for several hours, then SURELY we can wear a pair of AR glasses on our face.
    Bottomline, it’s time to change the form factor

    This isn’t really an Apple innovation problem, this is more of a cell phone innovation problem. You can say oh android has this iPhone has that, but what more do you really want from a cell phone? The Mac/iPhone integration with iOS 18 is suggestive to me that eventually iPhone will integrate with AR. The reason I love Apple so much is the seamless integration of all devices. As long as cell phones exist, the iPhone will exist. Keep the phones coming at different price points. The only thing I think they’re truly missing is a flip phone product (although I would never buy it, the older folks seem to love them).

    • @grantedgeek
      @grantedgeek  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agreed, no one is better than Apple when it comes to the integration of their devices. Their ecosystem is unmatched.
      I suppose I yearn for the time in which Apple releases seemed almost magical, like you didn’t know what they were going to do, but you knew it was going to be incredible.
      this is similar to something Steve Jobs said when he said that eventually all the marketers replace all the creative people and innovation starts to die.
      I think Apple is more concerned with their stock prices and quarterly earnings then with using all that money to truly innovate like they used to.

      I agree with that. It’s not just iPhone but all smartphones arent really groundbreaking with innovation anymore. To me they are like appliances. You use it to get it to do what you need. That’s it. No more fawning over features or dreaming of things it could add. It just works for what you need to do it. And that’s totally fine. I think the last iPhone I have, 13 mini, will stay for me with a long time because there isn’t anything I need more of it to do. I can spend my money on other gadgets now. 😊

    USB-C mean nothing to you? literally the only reason I have an iPhone now

    • @grantedgeek
      @grantedgeek  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey thanks for the comment! Let me explain: USB C didn't give the iPhone a new function (like charging or data transfer). It simply improved something the iPhone could already do. That's why I didn't mention it

    • @nesloerik
      @nesloerik 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@grantedgeek pretty sure it more than doubled transfer speeds by bringing it up to the USB 3.1 spec (on 15 pro and promax at least) which allows you to film prores directly to attached storage like an external SSD or a SD card reader

    • @grantedgeek
      @grantedgeek  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @nesloerik yes it did. That is an improvement. Definitely impressive but not a new function. For example: saying "iPhone now shoots video" is a new function. Saying "iPhone now shoots 8K" is an improvement. that is the point of my video.

    • @cjeelde
      @cjeelde 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@nesloerik USB-C is not a data speed doubler. USC-C is just the physical design/port (male and female connector).
      It's actually called USB Type C.
      Iphone 15 and 16 got USB-C with USB 2.0 so it means 480 Mbps. Will be the same with SE4. Only 15 Pro and 16 Pro got USB3 and I think it's 5 or 10 Gbps bus speed.
      You can probably add USB3 to Lightning if you just want to. Apple need to fix it.
      And then you need a USB-C cable with C connectors at both ends with USB3 support. Apple is selling a USB-C cable with USB2 support so 480 Mbps. I'm not joking. Just look at Apple Store and user reports/reviews. It's a good cable for charging but slow for data.
      The switch to USB-C didn't add functionality. Wireless Qi charging added true functionality. And I think Apple did that in 2017 with 8 and X.
      You need a USB 3 controller inside the A or M chip for this. Maybe Apple got an external USB 3 controller in some devices.
      The only reason why I get a newer iPhone is:
      + the battery health is too bad
      + (almost) out of storage
      + if the phone is so old that I need a newer to run a newer iOS so I can use the apps that I need.
      I love tech but I don't enjoy spending a lot of money. I don't understand why so many are so excited for all new iPhones.
      Nokia N95 came out before iPhone in 2007. N95 had:
      + 3,5G + Wifi
      + GPS
      + 5 megapixel camera with auto focus and flash and camera button
      + front facing camera
      + AV out (3,5 mm)
      + copy & paste in the operating system
      + MMS support
      + you could replace the battery so easy! No tools required!
      + support for 3rd party apps
      + industry standard USB port (mini USB), but NOT USB charging I think
      + microSD card slot
      It took iPhone years to catch up. And still behind in some areas! The only impressive thing on iPhone in 2007 was that multi-touch display.
      The biggest leap for cables was probably in the late 90s with FireWire. 400 Mbps and also that the video cameras (miniDV) used it. And hotplug. A great leap from SCSI. Lightning and USB-C are so similar, not a gigant leap from Lightning to USB-C...
