Been eyeing boats so much lately, including the Ranger Tugs R23. They're so lovely. My mother passed September 21, 2021. The ocean and fishing are the only things that seem to bring me peace. I just feel free of my burdens when out on the water. My mother, she loved the ocean too. Perhaps I feel closer to her when I'm not on land.
Martin, thanks much for this and all of your videos. We are still about two years out from purchase of a R-31 CB, and we are slowly buying the essentials to outfit the boat. Until then, we are living vicariously through videos like yours!
Great suggestions and so helpful to someone with a new boat. Consider glass for really cleaning the windows. They will shed water almost like Rainey without making your wipers chatter, but don’t lube the glass with soap, use something with polymers like Griot’s Speed Shine. Consider also a spray on wax and/or a wash & wax to help repel salt and preserve whatever wax you have. Very satisfying to use. I would love to see a video of some of the Ranger line up taking the same rough water from inside and outside. How much better is the 27 than the 23?
Buying a mattress topper can be a big mistake, lol, because once you get use to it you can't sleep without it. We even bring one along for the lake cabin fishing trips.
Love your videos. Im an avid fisherman. I own an alumacraft 205. My dream is when i retire to do the great loop. And o want a trailerable trwler. Been doing much research and you have helped a lot. The 27 out board is fantastic. I am.used to and love outboards and i think that is what i woudd go with. I also like the C-dory.
The RT27-OB is used quite a bit for a great loop boat. I know of several who spent last year traveling the great loop. I'd love to run my boat through the Big Chute. That'd make for some fantastic video!!
What length and diameter fender lines come with the original G-5 boat fenders? Thanks for all your great videos I take delivery of a R-27 next month and am beyond excited.
Thanks for watching! You'll have to send us a pic of your boat when you get it! I don't recall the size line for the fenders. I think they are 1/2 inch. Length is probably 5 foot.
We wax the outside twice a year. It’s never fun. Like the Karate Kid. Wax on… wax off.. Lol I’m looking into ceramic coating. That would last probably 2 years. We also keep our boat in a covered slip which helps a lot at keeping the suns UV rays off and it keeps the rain off. That helps the wax last longer as well.
Our water tastes fine. The flexzilla hoses are really nice. Ours is dedicated to just freshwater; I never run saltwater through it. What's an example of an RV hose? I'd be interested to know what you're using.
Thanks for all the awesome videos Martin and Lazina. I hope I didn't scare you too bad when I ran into you at the boat show in Anacortes, was super fun to get to meet you after watching your videos all this time. I felt awkward as you were waiting in line but couldn't miss the opportunity. We will be taking delivery of our R-25 OB in July. I have a question for you; do you still use salt-away now that you've got ceramic coating on your boat? We signed up for Kevin's service after watching your video, so thanks again!
It was great meeting you!! Don’t feel awkward. We love meeting and talking with other boaters. Especially other Ranger Tug owners!! Boating season is here. We’d love to go boating with you and capture some great video of you out on your new boat. Great question by the way. I use a lot less salt away now after ceramic coating. I only run salt away through the engine. The rest of the boat I just rinse with fresh water and blow dry it with a Dewalt 20v blower.
I love your channel, lots of great stuff, and I appreciate the time you spend......if you care about presentation from some random guy you'll likely never meet, try and read less of a script, you're way more engaging just going off an agenda, that's fine to look down at the topic, but then make eye contact and just talk, you're smart and have a lot to say, but no one likes to watch someone reading.
Thank you for this feedback! I experimented with teleprompter software and we have an actual teleprompter glass box with a tablet we tried. I'd re-watch myself on video and saw the same thing you saw. I work best with bullet points and just talking than reading off a teleprompter. All our newer stuff is talking points, no teleprompter.
@@Letsgochannelsurfing Yes indeed, I started watching more of your stuff, you're a natural when just free forming the conversation, I always learn something from you, really appreciate you taking the time!
Did you try longer wiper blades? I have a kenworth truck it comes with 14” wipers I changed them to 18” made a huge difference I could even get away with 22”
The blades are as long as they could possibly be. The front window is curved. Makes for a really great view, but unfortunately, doesn’t lend itself well for wipers.
If the boat is the water and the engine is running, it's raw water cooled. In my case, that would be running sea-water through the engine. If the boat was on a trailer or otherwise out of the water, you could run ear muffs to idle the engine, but most likely at idle, it won't get hot enough to open the thermostats. I flush my engine as the very first thing I do when I get back to my home slip as the engine is stil hot. Maybe the thermostats are open, maybe they aren't. I do the best I can.
For the "suicide knob", what position did you find best? 2 o'clock, 10 o'clock? I was thinking the 2 o'clock position since I'm right-handed, but then, the 10 o'clock and using my left hand on the wheel (right hand on the throttle) would work better for docking. What did you find? Thanks!
Put it 1/2 way in between the spokes of the wheel. There is no 2 o’clock or 10 o’clock position. Autopilot when enabled will move that position each time it’s engaged as the autopilot drives the boat.
Thank you for this. We're new to boating, and this seems like a pretty good list of items to either add to the boat we buy or check that it has. Also, noticed the Silver Dolphins and FBM stickers.
Thanks for watching!! Lemonaide was repaired and sold about a year ago. It's got a new owner, new home, new name, and is back in the water in her natural habitat. :)
Ranger Tug needs to see this and take notes! Thank you for your enormous contribution to the R27-OB owners and future owners!
Same for your video on electrical upgrades! Great tips!
I don’t normally comment, but this bang on for boating and RV. Thank you!

Flexila water hoses are great. I use them at home and on my RV.
