When you exercise in a male body, you are training in an elevated hormonal state of testosterone that a female would never be able to meet naturally. You also have denser bone. Larger lung capacity. When you go through puberty as a man there are certain things that never go away. It is not discrimination. Simply a fact.
I agree. Had Lia transitioned prior to puberty or just around that age, say 13-14 we might be looking at a different situation. I don’t know how the collegiate panel decided to let something like this pass without a full account of the science and clear examples to show there would or wouldn’t be advantages and disadvantages.

I also hear wht u are saying. I believe it's not fair if the trans woman had to go through their natural puberty. The male will most certainly possess all those advantages but if a person went through their transformation before and while in puberty, then I'm on the fence about it, and don't have enough information to have a opinion.
@@dunique26 Considering we now have real life examples of what that looks like I see physical differences between those who transition younger vs older. They are actually on a series of hormone treatments. Suppression and replacement are both a part of hormone therapy in order to redirect the body. Jazz Jennings comes to mind. She began the physical transition at age 11. If you look at her, she’s not recognizable as anything but a regular female. She has literally lived the majority of her life as a female. Lia seems to have pursued life differently. While that’s 100% okay, I think that she should recognize what physical advantages that extra time has given to her over other non trans women swimming. If I were in that position (I’m a female by birth but if I was a male transitioning to female), I would feel morally and ethically obligated to walk away from the sport and be who I wanted to be without that desire harming others. Especially the female group that I wanted to be a part of.

I am not transphobic in the least. My niece is trans and I adore her and will always support her. But Lia has benefited greatly from puberty and testosterone. She's over 6 feet tall. Her wing span and shoulders are huge. She has a definite advantage in the pool over biological females. It's unfair.

I used to discount it, when Feminists called out 'Marginalizing and Erasure of Females' - BUT now, especially about the issue of MTF-Transwomen competing against Biological Females in Competitive Sports, I find myself agreeing with them.
I find this situation to be completely unfair to Biological Women - and no amount of 'Gender Ideology' from the Trans-Activists has made me think otherwise.

The events could be open to all, but it does generally make more sense to categorise beforehand. Either way, it is always possible to establish an overall winner, a male winner, a female winner, a winner in an age group, etc.

At the end of the day it's doesn't matter how I feel when it comes to transgender people. But I will say this it's not an even playing field. Lia was born a man and that is fact. When she before the change he competed with men and didn't come close to winning he came in 554 place as a man. So he figure let me transition to a woman so he can be competitive. NCAA needs to create a transgender sports competition for them. To me this is totally unfair!!!

I’ve made no transphobic comments. The trans women on the panel need to stop being so offended and look at this issue objectively. As a transwoman Lia has very prominent male traits that give her a predisposed advantage over women in this sport. I’m fine if she wants to compete but handicaps should be in place to even the playing field. I also feel like as a sportsperson Lia should’ve walked away from swimming. She knows that she has an unfair physical advantage and competing against women who are clearly physically weaker is just wrong. The fact that she can’t fathom that and the trans women on the panel can’t either, blows my mind.
Competing this way is biologically unfair. And what’s up with their “community” always being ready to fight, being aggressive, and having the mentality that we must all conform to their beliefs?

My exact sentiment. When ppl disagree based on the norm of what they believe, they are "phobic" of everything. However, even now as I write this, this is the very reason we are having this issue, ppl desiring a non truth to be a truth. Biologically speaking, biological DNA does not favor opinion. It's only humans that will try to make what we desire to be truth even though everything else says otherwise.

I love it when trans people say the way they identify has nothing to do with their sex, but when it comes down to competing its not their mental identity that they are competing with. It's the body that they were born in that they have to use that competes and unfortunately that body is the opposite sex regardless of what your mind wants to think it is. Therefore men need to compete against men and women against women. Taking pills, surgical intervention, or clothes does not change the underlying issue

As a Veteran Woman myself, let's address the military woman pulling men "out of battle" scenario. It is a life saving tactic. It does Not mean that women can Compete with Him! It is no comparison.
The Army has seperate Men and Women Physical Fitness Test because of the Physical and Biological Differences!

She may feel she was born in the wrong body. I believe that she does feel that way, but think about that…. She was born in a boys body when it should have been a girls. She unfortunately should not be competing in the same category of other females due to that unfortunate fact.
I realize it would be very sad if they (trans) could not play in a competition-type sport with the gender team they identify with, but their physiology does not allow an even playing field, even if this is due to a biologic mistake at birth they had no control over. If elite male college athletes were suddenly losing all their medals to females who transitioned and were jacked up on testosterone…only kidding, that has never and will never happen.
This is motivated by an inherent hatred and disrespect for _women_. There is an overwhelming entitlement. Lea Thomas and others don’t ‘just want to compete’, they don’t ‘just want to play sport/swim/run’. It isn’t motivated by ‘being an athlete like everyone else on the team’ or ‘Following their athletic dreams like the other competitors’. An athlete wants to be _the best of the best_. They want to go up against the fiercest competitor. They don’t want to compete against the lowest seed, or the slowest swimmer. Because they are motivated by greatness, getting better and better until they become the best.
Lea Thomas and others doing this are doing this because their contempt for women is so great, they want to take from them. They want to revel in their loot, in front of an admiring crowd which celebrates and validates their victimhood and delusions.
If they were true athletes, they would find a worthy competitor. They are motivated by attention- no, more than that- celebrity. They want all eyes on them while they take what they believe they are owed.
As far as the panel- it was a damn mess. It’s like cisgender men and transgender women said “We will send the worst possible people to represent our community”.
Maybe this century a _female_ will be invited to discuss issues impacting _females_.

Where are many trans women out there who are speaking up against Leah Thomas, It would have been great To have a couple of them included in this debate.. Biological women are going back in time and losing their rights, I feel awful for my young daughters who are very athletic and who won’t have a chance in their sport of choice if there’s a trans man competing against them…. If you have biological daughters please stand up against this madness and fight for their rights… this is just the beginning … they will lose opportunities to go to the Olympics, to get scholarships, to compete with integrity.. this makes me sad for them so many years to give them rights and now biological males are coming in to take it away in the most unfair way..

Women’s sports were a joke and not worth watching before trans athletes entered. Now there is real competition and drama. Every time I tune into a Lia Thomas swim meet I’m excited to see which lucky lady comes in 2nd.

I am a retired competitive swimmer and coached youth swimming teams for 13 years. The last year I coached there were 115 boys and girls on the team so I have a good feel for the sport.
There are two kinds of people; those who divide everything into two groups, and those who don't. But, in reality you can't divide everything in two groups. For example, if that were the case, as far as color is concerned, there would only be black and white like the first photographs. But even then there were shades of gray. This is the same for people.
What makes up a human being?
Perhaps many years ago the YMCA displayed it best with it's tringle...

Therefore, there are three parts of a human being. A mind, a body, and a spirit.
The body does not control the mind and the body does not control the spirit. So what is a woman? If you are speaking of the body we all know the answer.
But the body is only one third of a human being. The mind is more powerful than the body as it controls the body and causes it to act.
The spirit or soul is the life of the body and the mind. Jesus tells us when we go to heaven we neither marry or are given in marriage. So it appears that the soul is neither a woman or a man.
Therefore, though it is rare, a body of one gender can have the mind of the opposite gender. And which is more powerful? The answer is the mind. The mind is what causes a body to transition.
So what is a woman? Or what is a man?The answer is the mind of the human being. Is it male or is it female? However, there are no biological men who are women. They are transgender women. The same is true that there are no biological women who are men. They are transgender men. And, there is nothing wrong with being a transgender woman or man.
If we look at the extreme sides that want to divide human beings into two groups then one side says there are no transgenders and the other side says transgender women are pure women and, neither side is correct. And as I said above, there is nothing wrong in being a transgender man or woman. In fact they have an advantage of being able to see the world from both the male and female perspective.
The problem in women's sports is we need to find a solution as everyone deserves to have the right to compete.
Here are ideas to begin finding a solution:
First in individual sports, transgender women should be allowed to complete in the women's events but there should be an * by their name indicating that they are transgender and the woman who's time is directly under the transgender woman should receive the same place award as the transgender woman.
Second, unless the transgender woman has had bottom surgery she should not change to the women's locker room.
If the two above ideas were implemented it would be fair for everyone. By the way, I just flew using the brand new Kansas City International Airport and there is an All Gender Restroom. There are individual enclosed stalls and I felt very comfortable using the restroom.
In conclusion, let's start finding solutions that are fair for everyone rather that taking sides and dividing everything into just two parts.
