12:35 I want to leave developer's comment on this: If you manage to activate Co-op icon, Life Tree will heal the whole party, so viable strategy is to keep one character close to the Tree, and navigate around the map with the other. In this case you will have basically free heal all the time. And yes, first map is actually brutal in terms of difficulty. But even if you was defeated, your exp, levels and skills will be safe, DeSu style, so you can try the map again. p.s. I'm aware of 'skip turn with misclick' bug, but I wasn't able to come up with solution.
Mirror Believing’s concept certainly sounds like a new Persona mainseries title, mainly the clock going backwards part. 3’s about death, 4’s about truth and 5’s about rebellion. So, a Persona instalment featuring the nature of time and what can be done with it. Then as is the series tradition, I imagine a mythological deity of time would be the endgame boss.
Every modern persona game is ostensibly about “time and what we can be done with it” in the sense that they are time management simulators, but particularly Persona 3. Honestly I feel that saying Persona 3’s theme is Death is like saying 4’s theme is Lies, or 5’s is imprisonment. The true theme is “what can we do with the time we have” which lends itself really well to the time management gameplay. The very first line in the game is "Time never waits. It delivers all equally to the same end. You, who wish to safeguard the future, however limited it may be... You will be given one year; go forth without falter, with your heart as your guide..."
P4 Your Affection took a massive turn in your description. I was like wow what a unique take on the story, having to go back to re-battle the cast's shadows and all but then it turns it was all to ship characters together and now it seems god awful.
It's a cute game that was made by fans who like shipping, not sure what else you expected. If that's what motivates them to get experience making games then it works. If it's so easy to make a visual novel fangame then you can do it and it won't have anything you don't like in it.
Man the SRB2 mod is just insane. Not only is very faithful to the Tartarus experience, it's also a mod on top of a mod since SRB2 runs on a heavoly modified DOOM engine lol
Not only that, but some custom characters people have made are compatible with it, including Mario, Werehog Sonic, Kazuma Kiryu, and an entire character pack for characters from the Legend of Heroes franchise (aka the Trials franchise).
I’ve been really into Megaten Fan games for a while now and it’s great to see this video. If you’re still interested in looking into more fan games I’d recommend the PERSONO games by Regret Tourmaline, it replicates the social link system and changes the story and social links with a crude sense of humour that can catch you off guard pretty easily and managed to make me chuckle a few times. From a battle perspective it’s similar to SMT: The Reborn World
I'm actually making an SMT inspired game right now. The tone is nothing like SMT (being more in line with the Mario and Luigi games or Paper Mario minus Sticker Star) but the gameplay is certainly there being a hardcore dungeon crawler with press turn. (or a system similar to it) It's really short though and was mainly made as a game I was going to make for an event on RMN. But then I ran out of time for the event so I instead I am expanding it to be a full game, abiet not a very long one. It's called Imprisoned and it will likely be out within a month or two. The areas are loosely based on Strange Journey and the final boss is a Jevil expy lol.
Persona 4: New Days is a pretty good fangame, its a dating sim with Kanji, Yosuke and Daisuke/Kou as possible routes. Its pretty well structured with a calendar day system, stats, SL progression, etc. The wiritng is pretty good too!
Wow, I'm actually developing something of a SMT fan game right now. I got the battle system already working, which is based most on Nocturne but it has some new features. Now so I need is an actual cohesive story and a lot of demons lol
It's a shame there's not much SMT related fangames here in the west, but it's to be expected really, since the franchise only got relative popularity in recent years. Still, those were kinda interesting to take a look at. On the other hand, the japanese side (obviously) is FULL of cool stuff. From the top of my head, I can think of two that really stand out, those being: LimitLess Shin Megami Tensei 2 (shortenned as LLSMT2), which, althought it's actually a romhack, it has SO much going for it, as it changes pretty much eveything non-story rellated to original game, damage calculation, stats, affinities, demons, bosses, encounters; and you can even fuse boss demons and stuff like that (yes, even YHVH, as crazy as that sounds). The other one is a RPG maker remake of SMT 1, that not only is very faithful to the original, it also adds a LOT of new content. New heroines for each route, new dialogue options, new dungeons, new areas, new demons. It even has stuff from SMT2 and If... ! Unfortunaly, as you may be able to guess, they're all in japanese and I doubt they're even going to get translated, so you either find a way to get around that or just learn the language.
The artwork in some of these look great. Shame that one SMT fan game never came out. To do all that with RPG Maker is really impressive. Must’ve taken a hell of a lot of work Omg Giten reminds me of a Mister Big T game. If you know, you know lol

Ahh, I also have to mention Antiem, a persona-like that I believe is worth checking out. It's honestly impressive that the creator(s) implemented a social link-like system, but also it plays more like a traditional RPG
If you don't mind ranchy content on these fangames, there is a party-based RPG dungeon crawler with a management side game called "Era Megaten". It's a weird mixture of every SMT and Persona game for the setting, with the "main" plot centered around you being a member of the Phantom Society from Soul Hackers. As a warning, it does feature a lot of erotic content, but I believe you can turn it off entirely and play it like a normal SMT game

Interesting, I had no idea there was so many SMT/Persona fangames. I wanted to make one myself after finishing P5, like a After Story dating sim where MC comes back to Tokyo and continues romancing his chosen waifu, but then P5 Strikers got announced and I gave up on that idea. lol Though I still really wanna make a SMT inspired game one day. This video really gave me newfound motivation to make a fangame for both of these series that I love so much.
SRB2Persona will have an all-original story for its Story Mode. Also, if you really wanna unlock SRB2P's potential, considering going on Gamebanana and looking at some of the character mods for it. They vary in quality, but there are some that are worth the look
I'm waiting for someone to have the boldness to make a Persona or SMT FPS fan game, mainly cause it would be funny. I want Doom but you play as Jack Frost with his funny little face in the HUD instead of Doomguy.
I know it's late but just in case you want to try Seraphic Blue, try using Easy RPG. I've been able to play it even in phone, since it fixes the old RTP dependency. It's a really cool game though the SMT IV inspiration I'd say it's mostly thematically, and maybe some mechanics.

Yeah I've seen Soul Hackers 2 being advertised a lot more than other recent Atlus games that weren't Persona. Far more than SMT5 even and that was mainline! I feel like they're treating Soul Hackers 2 like it's a Persona game especially with the all-human party members, the monsters being support, and the game being announced in the Persona 25th Anniversary. Then again it's theorized that the original Soul Hackers is a sequel to Persona 2, specificly innocent sin, but we'll see. Touhou: Artificial Dream in Arcadia is one of the best Touhou/SMT fan games ever made. I recommend this game, because is one of the best experiences for a fans of classic MegaTen and for Touhou fans.
The P4 your affection plot is SUCH A GOOD PREMISE. I’m just finishing P4 on steam and I’d love an extra chapter of the other IT members confront their shadows again bc logically it would make sense that the members would be scared their shadows came back. Just without all of the shipping stuff.
Interesting vid to watch. I spent a lot of time trying to find games like SMT or The Secret World. It is officially released but The Lost Child is pretty good. As for just a darker themed jrpg. If you want to drop some cash on an indie title Dark Blood Chronicles was good. Felt the pacing was off some but glad I found it.
I tried to make an smt fan game like 4 times, mostly from scratch in godot first one I tried to make a rouge like in a game jam with press turn combat, utterly failed second one I prototyped a card game with press turns as "mana" like in hearthstone or magic, you gain extra ones by exploiting weaknesses, couldn't find a balanced way to make it fun and integrate the other combat elements third one I actually managed to replicate the press turn system, but I really struggled to make a simple way to add demons, stats, and all the rpg stuff, got burned out fourth one was a jack bros clone, could not bother to finish it and right now I'm trying to make something with devil survivor grid combat and some form of weakness exploits, but since it actually went well, I decided to learn more with other projects while I wait for godot 4 beta RPG maker is always mocked for the similarity and quality of its games, but after after bangin my head against the wall trying to make rpgs from scratch, it is really underappreciated how much it actually does and simplifies, so that may be a reason why there are so few fan games. No one wants to make a lookalike rpg maker nowadays, but making an rpg as complex as smt or persona from scratch is really daunting as a solo dev
Most of these seems like bad, or at best, okay shipping games. With that said Sonic Robo Blast Persona and Ill Will both seemed pretty neat. Hell, even Mirror Believing seemed cool for what it's trying to do. Although that shit post-like intro that was supposed to be an actual intro showed that the creator's ambitions might be too grand for their current skill level. Who knows, maybe by 2025 or beyond we could get an indie-game masterpiece that is very similar to Persona.
The intro of SRB2Persona from dev leaks reveals Eggman in Yukari's position for the first shadow fight. His persona is NOT Yukari's. There's gonna be some differences, especially since the first fights seem to also be sonic without a shadow beating up eggbots.
I know of two fan games you didn't find, there was a fan remake of if..., made on unity with actual 3D graphics and lighting, but still a dungeon crawler. And there's was also someone on twitter making a persona inspired game, but with stereotypical old lady's as protagonists, a really silly concept, but somehow they replicated the combat system 1 to 1, with really polished ui and animations. I don't really remember the name nor if they actually finished the game or made it at least playable, I saw it around SMT V announcement
Apperently, ill will has a glitch where some enimies can just choose to crash the game, the ones that i know that have this problem are the boss on the 3rd area, a random spider on the 6th area, and the final boss after he loses 2k hp, which i'm pretty sure makes him unbeatable

About Seraphic Blue, I checked out the rpgmaker page with it on it, and one of the comments SUPPOSEDLY links to what's supposed to be the RTP for Don Miguel's version. But it led directly to a .exe download and that skeeved me out. I don't have the know-how to do it, but checking that file out on a Virtual Machine first to see if it's legit could be one way of going about things?

This is the result of the events of Innocent Sin. Worldline B is the new world created by philimon by sealing demons within humanity's unconscious, creating shadows. Due to Kazuya remembering the original timeline his existance in that world opened a portal to worldline A allowing demons to escape into worldline B and causing the events of Innocent Sin to repeat.

Touhou: Artificial Dream in Arcadia is one of the best Touhou/SMT fan games ever made. I recommend this game, because is one of the best experiences for a fans of classic MegaTen and for Touhou fans.

Interesting vid to watch. I spent a lot of time trying to find games like SMT or The Secret World. It is officially released but The Lost Child is pretty good. As for just a darker themed jrpg. If you want to drop some cash on an indie title Dark Blood Chronicles was good. Felt the pacing was off some but glad I found it.

I tried to make an smt fan game like 4 times, mostly from scratch in godot
first one I tried to make a rouge like in a game jam with press turn combat, utterly failed
second one I prototyped a card game with press turns as "mana" like in hearthstone or magic, you gain extra ones by exploiting weaknesses, couldn't find a balanced way to make it fun and integrate the other combat elements
third one I actually managed to replicate the press turn system, but I really struggled to make a simple way to add demons, stats, and all the rpg stuff, got burned out
fourth one was a jack bros clone, could not bother to finish it
and right now I'm trying to make something with devil survivor grid combat and some form of weakness exploits, but since it actually went well, I decided to learn more with other projects while I wait for godot 4 beta
RPG maker is always mocked for the similarity and quality of its games, but after after bangin my head against the wall trying to make rpgs from scratch, it is really underappreciated how much it actually does and simplifies, so that may be a reason why there are so few fan games. No one wants to make a lookalike rpg maker nowadays, but making an rpg as complex as smt or persona from scratch is really daunting as a solo dev
Most of these seems like bad, or at best, okay shipping games. With that said Sonic Robo Blast Persona and Ill Will both seemed pretty neat.
Hell, even Mirror Believing seemed cool for what it's trying to do. Although that shit post-like intro that was supposed to be an actual intro showed that the creator's ambitions might be too grand for their current skill level. Who knows, maybe by 2025 or beyond we could get an indie-game masterpiece that is very similar to Persona.
YIIK is strongly inspired by Persona an will get a complete overall with update 1.5, so maybe look forward to that ?

His persona is NOT Yukari's. There's gonna be some differences, especially since the first fights seem to also be sonic without a shadow beating up eggbots.

I know of two fan games you didn't find, there was a fan remake of if..., made on unity with actual 3D graphics and lighting, but still a dungeon crawler.
And there's was also someone on twitter making a persona inspired game, but with stereotypical old lady's as protagonists, a really silly concept, but somehow they replicated the combat system 1 to 1, with really polished ui and animations. I don't really remember the name nor if they actually finished the game or made it at least playable, I saw it around SMT V announcement

The closest game to SMT in tone was Yeaster's Onyx's RPGmaker games and those were more just Persona 1 and 2 but in the hood.
Apperently, ill will has a glitch where some enimies can just choose to crash the game, the ones that i know that have this problem are the boss on the 3rd area, a random spider on the 6th area, and the final boss after he loses 2k hp, which i'm pretty sure makes him unbeatable

About Seraphic Blue, I checked out the rpgmaker page with it on it, and one of the comments SUPPOSEDLY links to what's supposed to be the RTP for Don Miguel's version. But it led directly to a .exe download and that skeeved me out. I don't have the know-how to do it, but checking that file out on a Virtual Machine first to see if it's legit could be one way of going about things?
