Yeah its not the amount of money that makes a show good. Its the amount of effort going into it. The writing carries atleast 90% of a show for me. GW doesnt care about good writing.
GW could LITERALLY make a high budget Horus heresy series and it would be the single greatest sci-fi show we’ve ever had and they just can’t be bothered lmao.
@@62sy legit. Just coz they make alot of money doesn't mean they can afford to create a show that if done properly, should be more expensive then the last few star wars movies in order to get the scale properly
@@62sy they have millions to spare and they dont have to make it in live format just make it cgi like that guy that made the astartes project did and just adapt the horus heresy books and bam best show ever made but yeah theyre just lazy
@@62sy they've got more than enough money to make a high quality series. Also, what question was that ? The amount of money a single and normal person could give to a project isn't remotely comparable in any way to that of a highly profitable, multi-million dollard company, lmao.
I don't really support them through Models anymore, But I'm quite comfortable supporting them through Books, Shows, Videogames and other Media. I love the Lore still, but the Tabletop is just silly amounts of expensive.
I dunno, my support for Black Libary died with the last Tanith limited edition, completely sold out to eBay sellers within a couple of hours, fact they were all, gone and the sheer amount on EBay demonstrated zero interest in their customers to me, I'll pick up the last few Gaunts Ghost books (I got to imagine the series is coming to an end) and any Cain, but I'm done otherwise
Bro same models way to expensive but I'm still gonna buy darktide (available for pre order BTW) also yeah if I only support 1/2 I don't feel as guilty for alfabusa's sake but because of what Majorkill said maybe TTS could be coming back who knows?
100% same. I love our boy but this is 100% him sucking up to be in GW's good graces again. And fair enough, given his business model that would help him out. But GW can suck my nuts if they think I'm paying their retarded prices for models these days. When I finish my backlog, I'm 100% just buying recasts, idgaf if the details isn't as good. I'm not that good of a painter so thats just fine for me. That all said, I'll still buy videogames and books because the Lore is what I'm ultimately here for. IDGAF about playing tabletop. Never had any interest in playing, I just enjoy painting as a relaxing past time and way to chill while listening to lore vids or audiobooks.
@@robertemerson1087 Its something that can (and used to be) controlled at point of sale, limits of 1 or 2 placed on each account purchasing for example, maximum orders per address etc. Guy I got mine off had 10 and other ebayers I saw had a damn sight more than that. The speed they sold out at was, unusual 1750 total copies, sold out within a few hours... I've bought similar limited editions off Black Libary before and they've still been in stock days after release, I'll be honest did make me suspect GW had earmarked the bulk of them to preferred buyers before they even put em up for sale, but that's purely a suspicion
Nuking fan animations was the last straw for me. I feel for their employees, I really do, but I shouldn't feel guilt tripped into supporting a shitty company because of that. I made a video last week about my issues with GW, and said when they stop treating the community like garbage, then I'll gladly go back. Love the community, hate the company.
I still never really get this meme. They would literally lose the trademark in the animation space in the UK if they let people keep making animations with their IP. Hell, the sheer amount of them they literally offered jobs to keep doing it who went "wah I want to use your work to make my animations that no one would watch if it wasn't 40k". Like, I get it, it's nice that they could exist, but shit dude, they really should be licensing that shit, it's just unfortunate that that's how it works.
Well if the rumors about how well warhammer+ is doing are true then hopefully we will start to see things getting better. Till then I'm sticking to proxys and second hand
It's some good news that they seem to be turning things around, but until I see hard evidence or an announcement that they will no longer go after fan creators, I have no interest in supporting them. I completely stopped producing videos on 40k, a hobby I've been involved with since I was like, 10-11?, because of the way they treated my friends that produced incredible content, TTS being one of those. My own videos on 40k usually performed really well, I commissioned a 40k song and our unit was even named after Cadia but I have no interest in supporting a company with free advertising when they'll treat myself and my friends like shit on their boot. The major problem facing animators is without certainty that they can return, they may spend months on a project that they put up and then GW smacks them on the day of release.
@@RimmyDownunder Must have missed it *shrug*. 'Edit'. I see what happened. No this wasnt passive agressive sarcasm. It was actually an honest statement, sorry for the confusion :D. It was a genuine 'thanks for filling the logic gap' kinda thing. Totally understandable way to go.
In my experience it was almost certainly less to do with GW going after fan creators and more about GW looking at long term growth in media. I work in the legal side of media licencing and IP enforcement and have seen very similar situations before. If GW were looking to get anywhere in terms of media growth with one or several large partners they would have had to present a clean control of their IP. Most media companies would have looked at GW's lack of control over fan animations and run a mile and if they didn't they certainly would have used it to significantly reduce any licencing fees in negotiations. Essentially the line of these people aren't paying to use your IP why should I? Without the ability to produce everything in house like other major IP owners GW have to be able to present that clean control of their IP especially at such a vital stage of media growth. I imagine in the end it will boil down to who have GW chosen to work with and are they okay with fananimations if so then GW will reverse the policy if not then they'll be forced to keep it.
I started with the game in 1988. I stopped playing around 2000. I stopped giving GW money in 2006 or so. I have almost every White Dwarf from issue 20 to whatever came out in 2006-2007 I have at least $20,000 USD in figures, vehicles, and books in my garage. I like the game and the lore. I really liked playing the game. CityFight was my fave game mode. I dislike the company administration and decision makers. Combine that with the extortion level pricing and fatigue, it was easy for me to leave the game. Never thought about going back, but I still enjoy the lore and your content.
Pretty much my history with GW, Started playing 40k 1992(ish) Stopped playing 2008 Stopped giving GW my money 2008 as well (fuck that 100% plastic box set price rise) although still get paint from them (curse of a Guard army with set unifying colours) Have pretty much every White Dwarf from 1995 to around 2007 I wouldn't want to guess how much in Guardsmen, vehicles and assorted rulebooks (probably have a grand in Super Heavy Tanks alone) 3rd edition City Fight and 4th edition in general were my favourite (even if the change to deepstrike screwed my 3rd Ed drop troop army), Andy Chambers oversaw the last good Guard codex in late 3rd early 4th edition Still paint and model, but source 99% of it from any company which isn't GW, ebay and the remainder from 3rd party stockists to minimise GW's profit Agree completely with op's take on GW, added to the fact I had friends who worked there so know the really shady shit the used to do/the management's opinions on the average gamer My experience this is a journey most GW customers go through, it takes a good 10-20 years (although with the price of codex's and increased frequency of editions gotta imagine that timeline has reduced a bit) to really get fed up with their shit so even through they loose customers all the time with bad practices they can maintain the attrition rate with new blood
Honestly, I think they still need a kick in the balls. They are too disconnected from their fanbase. That warhammer + thing really killed it. No need to do that other than greed.
Yep plus they are doing nothing to incentivize people buying their models over getting into 3D printing. As printing quality has been getting more affordable as breakneck speeds as well as quality improving for a fraction of the GW products. With the selection of products from GW usually out of stock or limited to what they feel like making printing your own exactly the way you want them is far more attractive. It goes the same with the media approach they only have very heavy handed approaches like you said are extremely disconnected from the customer base.
They need to publicly renounce their jihad on fan creators, not merely quietly stop enforcing it. Why would anyone want to put the time and effort in with GW's lawsuit of Damocles hanging over their heads?
Alot of people are slowly moving back to Battletech for a reason. Hell last catalyst games kickstarter for a mini's set had a target goal of like 65k, it ended up pulling in like 4 million.
Until they end the Age of Strife and let Fan Animations thrive again, the answer is no and they were actually doing a good job of bringing people into Warhammer far better than GW ever could.
I think it’s a little insane that you have to pay 45-55 dollars for Guardsmen in the US. A $60 Space Marine squad is 200 points where as a guardsmen squad is 60 points. So to get the same table top equivalent I have to spend $135. They used to have easy to build kit for Guard 5 troops for 10 dollars all mono pose. That was fantastic, but now that is gone and that sucks.
When I read this I just stopped that's just... really because you need a lot of guardsmen and the models are really old. Sometimes I wonder whether corporations understand the game they make.
Oh it's so much worse than that dude, the Guard squad box used to come with 20 models, they halved it (along with every other plastic squad box) to 10 but kept the same price in 2008 when 5th edition came out and the last year added a single new frame which didn't even include any bloody pouches and jacked the price up by 35% pushing it above the price of a broodbrother box which at least included a additional heavy weapons team...
@@SleeplessBanjos you realise how ridiculous it is when you start doing comparisons with direct competitors, basic Cadian box set, mainly ancient models with 1 new frame of mostly useless heads is now on par in price with a 10 man basic Anvil Industries squad of fully customised troopers. It's why GW has become so anal about not allowing proxies and conversions in the last few years, controlling what goes in the play space is they only way they can stay competitive
A reminder that GW's shutdown of fan animations sent a large number of fans (back, in some cases) into the hands of BattleTech. As it turned out, they were willing to pay their piling ComStar bills over the Imperial Tithe.
Overpriced plastic, overpriced paints, making your armies obsolete by new codex, disrispect the fans, the animators nuke......they can root on their chairs, Blood Bowl teams and base game is the last thing I've purchased and not gona buy anything else from GW.
Before Alfabusa's new series I had heard of Vampire: the Masquerade but was never super into it; now I'm listening to hour+ lore videos on World of Darkness from Lazar of Stygia and getting very interested in the lore and setting. I may even put together a campaign with some friends. Free advertising from passionate fans: It works.
As a result of busa’s new series I have rediscovered the WoD, and have spent a rather disgusting amount of my disposable cash on getting back into werewolf: the apocalypse again. It is however a shame white wolf sharted and effectively lost werewolf as a game. EBay has been my friend indeed…
For all of your snark and your need to be a mouthy, but generally good cnt, you actually make some excellent content. Seriously GW should be sending Brava a check every week. Because of his “fan animation” I’ve probably spent around $1200 in minis within the last six months. That’s not even counting the new kill team box and of course the Horus Heresy one. Let’s also not forget he was the one who finally moved the goddamn story forward first!
JErvis Johnson, John Blanche, Rick Priestley etc made an incredible set of universes many years ago. The company GW continue to make amazing miniatures based on that work. I buy maybe on mini or kit a year from them, but I'm much more interested in what the fans are doing nowadays. Like you say, I'm painting and repainting my backlog, and I've been in the hobby so long, I can really get crazy with it
GW rode here on the back of Mythology from around the world. Dragons, Orcs, Hydras, Wyverns etc. They're now having a rebranding nightmare to try and maximise profits even more. I think since the days where Warhammer started to become a major player in Table top games, they've been far more profit-centric than quality centric. Warhammer 40K in particular has great lore, but really hasn't been a very good table-top combat game for most of its life, it just has _really_ cool units etc.
Doesn't help the table game that they purposefully unbalance the factions to get people to buy the current 'meta' and switch that as new rules cycle out. Takes a lot of work to make a balanced game, and they mess it up on purpose to sell models.
@@ravenstarver1360 Even if the game isn't balanced, as it's a tabletop game you can adjust to that. House rules your way to fairness. It's the nuts and bolts mechanics of the game that make it a chore. With a game that has as many things going on as 40k does, it's essential that the rules remain as tight as possible, and we see the exact opposite of this just because they want money.
Feed the dragon one day and become it's food the next. Front line employees should get zero sympathy; they know exactly who they are working for and that's fine with them.

I honestly love this take, because while I don't enjoy what GW has done to the community I still genuinely love the game, lore, and models. Also being a former World of Warcraft player made saying goodbye to another loved franchise was almost impossible.
Its like a abusive relationship (toned down of course) they act shitty to the fanbase the fanbase tells them to screw off only for them to eventually come back
In general an individual shouldn't support any company, it's the company's goal to make as much profits from the individual as possible. You can like and use the products they make but doesn't mean you need to support them.
Support with your wallet not on twitter. Usually a good advice for everything. If the product is good, it is in your interest to purchase stuff and allow them to continue. That is all the support they need. And if they shit the bed... well, you have other ways to get overpriced plastic. 3D printer goes BRRRR.
If Alfa finishes that it means he's doing Warhammer content again. At that point he has no real reason to stop. I don't think it's in his best interest to do that, and I won't watch it for that reason.
Unless Games Workshop remove their stupid "No Fan Animations" rule that made "If the Emperor had a Text to Speech Device" go on an indefinite hiatus, no way in Hell.
If you get problems with your Hentai Warhammer calendar, just sell an Austrailian tissue for the same price BUT with a free calendar as a bonus. Theres nothing special about the tissue more than its a tissue delivered from Australia, and if people have a problem with that just switch out the tissue. Adapt and overcome the problem. Theres lots of tissues being sold around the world, whats GW gonna do about that? and a free calendar is always nice.
Honestly TTS was showing its age. It kind of lost a lot of its bite when GW moved the story forward... while TTS was stuck in the "Ultramarine r dum" phase of humor. Combined with how long each episode took and yeah.
Astartes was literally the animation that got me into Warhammer 40K. I knew nothing about it, wasn’t interested and couldn’t care less. And then I saw that awesome animation and the seeds were planted. So for them to rip down the fan animation community is literally worse than shooting themselves in the foot. I hope this change In policy shows lessons learned, because I have no desire to support a second group of arrogant, moronic creators who refuse to consider their community. Blizzard’s already on thin ice.

Dont forget that GW is using new releases to shrink your existing collection, releasing new units that are replacements for units in your existing collection.
Sorry but I feel the majority of people who want agree with this sentiment have never owned a 3d printer. “Beginner friendly?” The fucking things don’t work most of the time and the technical support communities for 3d printing are as big as the war gaming communities. Gw is not going under because of 3d printing any time soon. Consider paying the few gigachads who can actually make their 3d printers work to print out the minis you want.
@@lastsong7159 No he's literally telling the truth, the shit is expensive or even more expensive then models half the time, especially depending what country you live in.
@@vothbetilia4862 A decent resin printer costs approximately 200$, and if you're any sort of serious about WH40K, you'll easily reach double that. Other than that, SLA printers are quite basic to use, and don't require a lot of finetuning like FDM printers do, not to mention the quality of SLA printers is much cheaper. Not to mention with some minor skill (or youtube tutorials), you can edit the model files yourself for about 12 times the customization options GW would ever grant you, plus there's thousands and thousands of custom models in circulation online, including near everything that GW took out of production. End of the day the only thing it's going to cost more of is time. And you'll be given the proverbial keys to the kingdom. A 3D printer is pretty much a net improvement in every aspect of the hobby.
I don't buy models from them anymore, the crap is too expensive. I agree with you that we want GW to survive only for the fact that we don't want the WH & WH40k universes to die due to lack of centralized control. I care more about the lore and IP than I care about the minis and game books. I love playing some of the video games created out of this IP and if GW died, we would lose the coherence of the universes and they would fragment and die.
Paint my backlog? Paint MY backlog?!? My backlog has achieved nearly legendary levels. Things that exist in my pile of shame: roughly 250 dark eldar models, 3500 points of Guard, two imperial knights. Also the Salamanders project in which I decided that I was going to just build and paint the entire Salamanders legion; So that's 840 marines a mix of all types, Rhinos for days 14 land raider redeemers, a bunch of other stuff drop pods planes etc. I got a ton of the assembly done on that and then primaris dropped and my motivation tanked. And you have to understand, I have a ton of painted stuff, like those 250 dark eldar that arent painted, that's a small minority of that army. I have 5 painted knights to go along with the two I haven't done yet. I have an entire painted Skaven army. I just cant even look at the shame pile, it's so freaking massive that I keep it at a friends house instead of my own.
Good video MK! I would also think its worth point out that whilst GWs operating profit (%wise) is far higher then Alphabets, unlike Alphabet GW actually pay their due in taxes. Yes GW made 360m but paid the full 40% on its operating profit leaving 93.4m with a final margin of 25% net profit. Unlike Alphabet in 2020 paid 4%! GW are extremely profit rather then fan driven, but its hard to ignore the good they do. £5000 for every member of staff, returning the Government covid grant, refusing to move their model production to China due to human rights (they were even on the process of bringing back their book production until covid closed the UK book printing company they were moving too). They do have high prices but honestly as companies go they really arent that bad. And thats why i am currently ok supporting them. Keep up the good work 👍
I bought a kill team box a few years ago and started painting my pile of shame from the nineties. I mostly just read the novels in the last twenty years but it’s fun to get back to the hobby aspect.
I bought as much GW stuff when starting my EC army as was necessary to allow me to play games in the local store as it's the nexus for the community where I live. That's it. Everything else, custom bits, additional weapon sprues etc, I bought from small third party dealers.
if games workshop were to start outsourcing models to bandai it would be worth it because bandai prices. The quality of titans we would get out of it would be astonishing with high colorsep good articulation and moving pistons
GW shill here, and I went to school for film production, I have to say producing quality art is not as simple as cutting a check and calling it done. It takes actual artists (writers, producers, directors, animators, actors, etc.) to create these things, and the final quality is often only loosely related to how much money is spent. Yes, more money can hire supposedly better/more people, but if you hire a bigger team it becomes harder to manage, more open to miscommunications or conflicts of vision, and things can very easily get out of control. I would not be surprised if the creator of Astartes either doesn't want the help of other animators to make his sequel series, or is having trouble managing a team since he was a solo act before, and it's a difficult transition. For example, Gods of Egypt (2016) cost $140 million, looks like a garbage PS2 cutscene, and lost ~$80 million at the box office. Such high budget disasters are commonplace. Conversely, Deadpool famously only cost $58 million, and grossed $782, because it was made by talented people who loved the source material and managed the money they did have exceptionally well. I just really dislike the idea that anyone with $100 million can simply write a check and *POOF* a good movie appears. If that were true there would be a lot more great Christian movies, lol.
So if the primary issue is team management, which you shed the most light on, what is stopping them from hiring experienced managers who are trained in and have worked in managing studio teams before? I understand it is not only about team management, but money lets you afford experts within several different fields be that management, animation or any job, really. The quality of Warhammer+ is clearly disproportionate to the amount of money GW is earning. I'm not dissing the animators or the show's creators, I am simply stating the general consensus. What this disproportionality depends on, I cannot say, but it is either due to lack of influxed money, leadership incompetence or maybe both. Both of which can be fixed monetarily.
I buy a set once in a while when I feel like painting something up again, I don't particularly care to 3D print my models, and honestly their pricing isn't cost prohibitive to me. Their quality, especially on newer models, is exceptional.
I'm with you there. I haven't gamed in a long, long time but occasionally still feel like painting something. Usually once or twice a year. As such I don't mind the price, if I was building an army though that opinion awould change pretty quickly. You are righ about their minis being that much better than what anyone else has though
@@alecmiller5296 It depends on the models. Some of 3d party ones are too detailed in my opinion and would take a lot longer to paint as well. Sometimes they look cool and sometimes they are offputting. A blanket "all of 3rd parties are better" is simply not true though.
What kind of annoys me about GW and their IP, is that they've taken content from so many great classic Sci-Fi sources (Dune especially, God type Emperor, Ornithopters, Navigator Guilds, almost the entire AI rebellion thing and more) and yet they pursue their copyrights like rabid dogs and pretend they created everything entirely from scratch. I do love the setting and they have transformed it in to an awesomely grim universe but it still doesn't warrant their douchey behaviour. Their attitude towards fan works is also atrocious, it makes Nintendo look like Saints by comparison. I was loving it in the mid 90's when 2ed came out and spent hundreds, but then disappeared for a bit and came back for the Horus Heresy, and while the novels were great, their prices were still just as grapey as before. I get prices being at a certain level as someone has to be paid to design and model stuff, then finalize it, send it off to casters etc, so it's understandable when recasters get hit with cease and desists. I just wish they'd throw their community some appreciation and not be so rabid when it comes to anything they deem as "infringing" on their work/IP.
I think we should buy their video games which at most cost like most AAA games But I think people should get miniatures from other sources As its over priced plastic
I got back into 40k when 8th came around. I bought (haven't finished) 4 armies at the old prices. I have bought 2 models and some paint with gift vouchers since the new prices. I really love the whole 40k universe but I personally can't justify paying the prices of the new stuff. I even got my kids into it but no more. Love the lore, especially the way you put it.
Honestly, i just buy models through third party gaming stores whenever i want to paint something, cheaper and doesn't give that much money to GW I didn't know that they kind of silently put away their 'no animations' rule, sounds nice but we'll see how they hold up their promise of being more open to work with content creators. The thing i personally like the most is the increase in quality 40k games instead of shitty mobile cashgrabs. Recently Chaosgate and Mechanicus and in the future Space Marine 2, Rogue Trader and Boltgun. Looks promising. What i find most important is that regardless if you want to buy GW products or avoid them like Nurgle's rot, don't attack each other over it
I'm a secondary or perhaps even a tertiary to WH40. But I wanted to buy the JoyToy Astartes because I love how they look, and the WH40 Lore is amazing. Thanks for the video.
I just buy GW models. I like what they offer as a product so I get it. This whole business with animations isn’t really my problem nor should it affect how I treat a random company. I will never tell others they should support one thing or another as it is their decision. I believe it’s my money so it goes where I want it to go. So to those who prefer to print then print! I’m not that big of fan of printing but damn I won’t ever tell you, you can’t!
Then allow me to bring you back to reality: If GW wanted to commit to allowing fan content, they would have released a statement. They could reverse their decision at a later time, but they haven't even bothered to do that. That's because they're testing the market. This is not a cultural change if that's what you think it is. They're the same now as they have been for the last 20 years. The hammer will drop again; it always does.
I still can’t believe we don’t have a legit W40k tv series yet. With the disdain of Star Wars and Star Trek these days people want a new sci-fi setting without all the annoying messages or destruction of nostalgia 40k would be a perfect escape for people, or at least I would think. Now with gw being slightly more open to fan content with fans showing they have what it takes to make good content there is absolutely no reason that a quality 40k series coming out.

It sucks having to choose between my sheep or my minis here in NZ. Back in the day (Cause i'm old) It was common to be a Fantasy or 40K player because you could easily afford 3-4 armies. What killed it for me was buying a 30-40$ just released codex then 3-4 months later the new edition rulebook comes out and scraps everything but the unit costs and a couple special units. Would of cost me another 2-300$ just to get to tournament size after the majority of my units nolonger being worth the point cost to field. And yes the codex was the same edition as the rulebook.
I'd rather spend my hard earned money on the amogus twerk dice set from bricky. At least he knows memes. 60 bucks for a tyranids dice set? Bruh. Can I get imperial guard set? No. Different and new models for the different guard regiments that you (GW) made? No. Consoome and shut up I guess. I'm not much into the tabletop version of Warhammer, but GW makes it very and really hard for people like me to get into the hobby on tabletop.
I don't play the table top, but have been a devout Black Library reader. Also have some of the Vermintide and Total War series games. Something here for everyone to enjoy.
I bought chaos gate because it looked like a good game, but 50$ for it was reasonable.. if they charged like 200 I wouldn't, they should fix the mark up issue
Video games prices are very subjective, compare any 60$ game to Elden Ring and only a few can live up to it, that's even besides the point of you being interested in them.
While not perfect their direction has definitely improved. I just wish they wouldn't remove from the store their value boxes when a new one appears. The savings on the old 8e AdMech start collecting was great.
Honestly I was concerned when I read the title I thought is was gonna be like discourse miniatures( love her stuff but dang it's borderline nihilistic) But good Ole MajorKill pointed out the good things GW does to show the contrast and actually told fans how to keep GW in line
I can't stand her. I mean, I've been outpriced out of the hobby more than a decade ago, so, it's not like I love GW or anything but.. why does she dedicate all her time to a company she hates so much? FFS just move on, she's basically becoming Gamza. Her style is good though, that's the worst part: she could do much better.
Definitely agree on buying proxies to help yourself out at least in a smaller level tournament setting (ignoring the GW bs). I use the Lictor model that Puppetswar makes in my Tyranids and I genuinely can't imagine how much worse the GW one would look next to it.
GW needs to make that fan content ban-life official so everyone who was shut down can (hopefully) come back and we can welcome a new golden age for fan-madw content
Unironically that ban helped me re-evaluate the place that this hobby has in my life. I haven't gone cold turkey on Warhammer per se, but since then my goal has been to finish my pile of shame and find a healthier hobby. My body and wallet will be happier that way, I don't need to waste my time with a company like this. I only get one life to live, and there are better things to spend it on.
I’d been hoping you’d made another video about GW following The Purge, no one else has out any updates. I’ve been dying to get some more audiobooks and try Hired Gun, it’s good to know the boycott is actually working.
No. They continuously keep increasing their prices despite already being more expensive then most other tabletop wargames. they have shown they do not care about fans by threatening to silence them on TH-cam. They don't deserve my financial support.
Only part I hate about the paints is the lip part, other then that I’d gladly mostly use them since I won’t be wasting abit on a pallet and it’s easier for me to shake
There’s a ton of resources for Recasters. And genuinely most the time you can’t tell the difference between original and recast. Also with bits and 3rd party piece, depends on the store. It’s cool at my local GW to use proxy Heads, so long as the majority is GW.
As a Guard player/collector proxy models are about the only avenue for something new since GW, even after the destruction of their home planet, still favours Cadians over more plastic kits for other regiments. The Death Korps was a good start, but i was hoping the long rumored Guard update would have given something that allowed for various different regiment options. For example, like it would give a overall combat suit with armour bits you can glue on separately, several headgear options you could glue on separately too. So it allows you to make a Dress Uniform regiment (the default torso bit and a peaked cap you can glue on the head) Or a armour bits glued onto the torso, elbows, knees, and then a fur hat glued to the head to make a Frozen world heavy infantryman. Lots of ways they could do it. But still I wait for new plastic infantry that aren't Cadian.
@@SleeplessBanjos It's more frustrating when I can look at Fireforge Games plastic Mongol sets give you so many options to customise your models (I use them for a Steppe Nomad faction in 9th Age, a fan made successor to Warhammer Fantasy). For example, each sprue makes about 4 riders. It give about 5-6 torso options, around 9 bald heads and 6 headgear options and shields, and other bits fir weapons. The heads are bald because the set allows you to give them a helmet of some kind or you can glue hair wrapped up into that pony tail like thing Mongols do/did. Then you look at Warlord Games, Victrix Miniatures, Atlantic Wargames, Perry Miniatures. And they only ask for £25 for 30-40 models per box. Why should it cost the same amount, if not more for 10 plastic guardmens? Thats the easiest comparison you can make to how much GW is price gouging their customers, because the Historical sets sprue have just as much if not more plastic used in them. I will grant that most of these are historical model manufacturers, and they arent as customisable because of that, they do still come with a host of option. And in 40k, they would fit in just nicely as Proxy models. Hell, in a Gaunts Ghost book, Dan Abnett depicts a soldier wearing a Napoleonic style uniform being worn by soldiers of one nation on a planet thats been fighting for 50 years in Trench Warfare. In another book a group are actually using Muskets in a skirmish against Chaos Marines. There is so much GW could do, but they just do the least amount of effort when it comes to the Guard. And it breaks me every release.
TLDR version: as with any company, support the good stuff they do, don't support the shit stuff they do. Its the only way to get them to do more good stuff and less shit stuff
The tabletop, models, painting...etc (the core of GW business) should have been replaced by digital assets and online battle simulation long ago. It would have opened up more interesting possibilities.
@@CRAM079 But full digital assets would make digital coloring and customization much more fun and easy. Online battle simulation would make rules validating automatic.
When i started painting minis, a Land Raider costed around 50€. Now one costs 85€. Think i'm just gonna stick to playing the few good Warhammer games out there and support them that way.
GW's got a lot of problems across the board, but one thing you can't fault them fore is their handling of sexual diversity. Doesn't matter of you're male, female, both or neither you're all just meat for the grinder and there's a faction for you to die in. Men have the Space Marines, women have the Sisters, and trans people have the Ad-mech. Hell the entire ork faction is biologically non binary but self identity's as male or at least "boyz," now that's some next level representation.
@@thatromanfella8377 I actually spoke with a fan of warhammer who is trans and asked them "If the Ad-Mech are obsessed with relapsing all their weak flesh with robot parts to become more machine like, and some of the parts removed included their genitalia would that make them trans?" They answered "I mean, there defiantly _trans-humanist._ But I like your idea, it's kinda funny. So yes I guess"
Warhammer is really the case of "love the franchise, hate the company" where the franchise itself is amazing and full of those powerful shiver causing moments, but where GW's writers absolutely dominate it's marketing or whoever absolutely fail. I mean, just look at it: Warhammer+, animation ban, lack of good 40k games, lack of grimdark and more of grimdank, insane prices, model neglection, etc. That's quite the list of things that the community disliked/still has to dislike, and the people calling these decisions seem to be blindly following their twisted logic from one blunder to the next. If it wasn't for some of the amazing writing the franchise would've died already, but luckily for GW the lore hard carried everything else. I very much agree with the statement of buy what is good, and hate what is shit because as was stated above, the company will follow your money, and nowadays with a solid proxy market we can squeeze on GW's neck a little, and let go as is needed to show them that they've fucked up. So yes, love the franchise, but remember that the company is not the franchise, it will only do it's best to please you if pleasing you fills it's bank account so treat it with the understanding of this.
3D PRINTER GO BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR FUCK GW 3D prints > GW I LOVE VIOLATING GW COPYRIGHT AND PRINTING EXACT 1:1COPIES OF THEIR MODELS OR PRINTING BETTER QUALITY ALTERNATIVE MODELS.
The end of Bionicle did almost nothing to stop its indomitable fanbase from continuing their own stories, or from creating brand new ones, and if Warhammer has those passionate writers behind it like Bionicle had Greg Farshtey or Brenden Faber, then yes, Warhammer will be perfectly fine without GW.
@@bannermare6357 Well yeah, I didn't say it didn't do that, I just said the fanbase has refused to be dominated and still continues strong. Maybe not as strong as the days before the Great Cataclysm of 2010, but the Great Spirit was awakened, and Spherus Magna was reborn. Bionicle may not have new official toys, but the 3D printing community for Bionicle has picked up the slack, and these days you can get an entirely 3d printed figure with largely free STLs. Nice job mate, yeah prices suck from GW for both of us in NZ & AUS, but there are plenty of FLGS who are able to get us our fix at relatively more reasonable prices
I agree, but they are self-aware (the survey they did showed this) and I think they're attacking from a new angle, from both a product perspective (Eldar revamp, now Chaos revamp, not just space marines) and a community perspective (the new Horus Heresy open event was very community friendly). The Old World is coming, sometime (I imagine it will be like HH for AoS). The new HH prices are also cheaper. $95 for twenty marines are amazing. I also wholeheartedly agree with your opinions on recasts. Some friends seem to think they're some noble way to stick it to a company, which it simply is not. Proxies are a much better way to stick it to GW, as you'll be supporting a passionate artist and get a gorgeous model. I also imagine they'll cut their losses with Warhammer+ soon, maybe right after shipping the minis. I say they should put out an announcement officially allowing fan animations and content (if they would support TTS it would start a massive GW fan-wank)
All I could think of while watching the latest season of Love Death & Robots was how good a 40k series the studios could make vs the low rent stuff on Warhammer+
Don't trust them. Everyone was saying "Oh, look, they're turned over a new leaf!" back in 2016 when they started "communicating" with the fans. They will crack down again.

I don't really support them through Models anymore, But I'm quite comfortable supporting them through Books, Shows, Videogames and other Media. I love the Lore still, but the Tabletop is just silly amounts of expensive.

Not ALL the community tho.
Well at least your posting about it on a website owned by Alphabet who are basically the purest most holy company to ever exist.
Link your video
I certainly did wonder why the 40k content dried up on your channel since its been a favorite of mine. Thanks for the explanation.
@@SASVulture I made announcements about it at the time.
Not necessarily true, there was a 40k video that I saw that was 5 years old yet GW didn't took it down.
I started with the game in 1988.
I stopped playing around 2000.
I stopped giving GW money in 2006 or so.
I have almost every White Dwarf from issue 20 to whatever came out in 2006-2007
I have at least $20,000 USD in figures, vehicles, and books in my garage.
I like the game and the lore.
I really liked playing the game. CityFight was my fave game mode.
I dislike the company administration and decision makers. Combine that with the extortion level pricing and fatigue, it was easy for me to leave the game. Never thought about going back, but I still enjoy the lore and your content.
Simple as...
Pretty much my history with GW,
Started playing 40k 1992(ish)
Stopped playing 2008
Stopped giving GW my money 2008 as well (fuck that 100% plastic box set price rise) although still get paint from them (curse of a Guard army with set unifying colours)
Have pretty much every White Dwarf from 1995 to around 2007
I wouldn't want to guess how much in Guardsmen, vehicles and assorted rulebooks (probably have a grand in Super Heavy Tanks alone)
3rd edition City Fight and 4th edition in general were my favourite (even if the change to deepstrike screwed my 3rd Ed drop troop army), Andy Chambers oversaw the last good Guard codex in late 3rd early 4th edition
Still paint and model, but source 99% of it from any company which isn't GW, ebay and the remainder from 3rd party stockists to minimise GW's profit
Agree completely with op's take on GW, added to the fact I had friends who worked there so know the really shady shit the used to do/the management's opinions on the average gamer
My experience this is a journey most GW customers go through, it takes a good 10-20 years (although with the price of codex's and increased frequency of editions gotta imagine that timeline has reduced a bit) to really get fed up with their shit so even through they loose customers all the time with bad practices they can maintain the attrition rate with new blood

Win.
Until they end the Age of Strife and let Fan Animations thrive again, the answer is no and they were actually doing a good job of bringing people into Warhammer far better than GW ever could.

It’s sad when a successful(?) company has worse advertising than a bunch of TH-camrs.
Unfathomably based.
They just Jelly that the stuff they make isn't as good as some random dude with talent. They didn't realize that its actually free marketing for them.
True
I think it’s a little insane that you have to pay 45-55 dollars for Guardsmen in the US. A $60 Space Marine squad is 200 points where as a guardsmen squad is 60 points. So to get the same table top equivalent I have to spend $135. They used to have easy to build kit for Guard 5 troops for 10 dollars all mono pose. That was fantastic, but now that is gone and that sucks.
When I read this I just stopped that's just... really because you need a lot of guardsmen and the models are really old. Sometimes I wonder whether corporations understand the game they make.
I miss the push fit guards and cultists :(
Oh it's so much worse than that dude, the Guard squad box used to come with 20 models, they halved it (along with every other plastic squad box) to 10 but kept the same price in 2008 when 5th edition came out and the last year added a single new frame which didn't even include any bloody pouches and jacked the price up by 35% pushing it above the price of a broodbrother box which at least included a additional heavy weapons team...
@@maddlarkin Over 20 years inflation has gone up a total of 83% while GW profits have gone up 483%.

Well said.
I just bought about 2k points worth of tyranids from a friend and not gw does that count?
Support with your wallet not on twitter. Usually a good advice for everything. If the product is good, it is in your interest to purchase stuff and allow them to continue. Theres nothing special about the tissue more than its a tissue delivered from Australia, and if people have a problem with that just switch out the tissue. Adapt and overcome the problem. Theres lots of tissues being sold around the world, whats GW gonna do about that? and a free calendar is always nice.

Astartes was amazing, but it was SODAZ's "Siege" which really got me spending money on WH40K games.

Dont forget that GW is using new releases to shrink your existing collection, releasing new units that are replacements for units in your existing collection.
Short answer: No.
Long answer: Fuck no, go buy a 3D printer.

I think if model prices were lowered and resin phased out. They would make more money due more overall sales.
LOL @ Majorkill - 12:06 "Box of Shame" - I have a Storage Shed of "Opportunity" and continue to paint my backlog of GW & Forgewold miniatures.
A Horus Heresy animation following Loken would be amazing. Or the Unification Wars as a start and then into Great Crusade
if games workshop were to start outsourcing models to bandai it would be worth it because bandai prices.
Their quality models get outclassed by independent 3d artists everyday. The power of the printer is inevitable
I think we should buy their video games which at most cost like most AAA games
But I think people should get miniatures from other sources
As its over priced plastic
I got back into 40k when 8th came around. I bought (haven't finished) 4 armies at the old prices. I have bought 2 models and some paint with gift vouchers since the new prices. I really love the whole 40k universe but I personally can't justify paying the prices of the new stuff. I even got my kids into it but no more. Love the lore, especially the way you put it.
Honestly, i just buy models through third party gaming stores whenever i want to paint something, cheaper and doesn't give that much money to GW
I didn't know that they kind of silently put away their 'no animations' rule, sounds nice but we'll see how they hold up their promise of being more open to work with content creators.
The thing i personally like the most is the increase in quality 40k games instead of shitty mobile cashgrabs.
Recently Chaosgate and Mechanicus and in the future Space Marine 2, Rogue Trader and Boltgun. Looks promising.
What i find most important is that regardless if you want to buy GW products or avoid them like Nurgle's rot, don't attack each other over it
Same, I prefer buying through local gaming stores if I want GW models so as to support their store.
But GW pays their employees really well.
Wait, what's that? They don't?
Ohh....
Don’t do that. Don’t give me hope. I miss TTS so damn much.
Good video. Had me worried as me and a mate recently got into 40k. Your videos had a big role in that decision as well.

So it allows you to make a Dress Uniform regiment (the default torso bit and a peaked cap you can glue on the head)
Or a armour bits glued onto the torso, elbows, knees, and then a fur hat glued to the head to make a Frozen world heavy infantryman.
Lots of ways they could do it. But still I wait for new plastic infantry that aren't Cadian.
As a fan of the 13th penal legion I know your pain :(
@@SleeplessBanjos It's more frustrating when I can look at Fireforge Games plastic Mongol sets give you so many options to customise your models (I use them for a Steppe Nomad faction in 9th Age, a fan made successor to Warhammer Fantasy).
No because GW is greedy and taking too much from Warhammer fans
TLDR version: as with any company, support the good stuff they do, don't support the shit stuff they do. Its the only way to get them to do more good stuff and less shit stuff
The tabletop, models, painting...etc (the core of GW business) should have been replaced by digital assets and online battle simulation long ago. It would have opened up more interesting possibilities.
I like playing on a physical table top.
@@CRAM079 But full digital assets would make digital coloring and customization much more fun and easy. Online battle simulation would make rules validating automatic.

Does Perty deserve the Big E's love? Probably, but him going on chaos motivated temper tantrums isn't making it any easier to do so.
Trans have admech? Wha? What?
