    There is this creepy excerpt from a story were the son of a noble had a servitor doll as a child to play with. One of my favorite theries about why the men of iron went rogue. The old human empire learned of the chaos gods and them becoming a threat. Someone consulted with the A.I.s of the time to formulate stratigies. The A.I.s figured out that the chaos gods exsist because of the emotions of living creatures. Being souless machines they don't feed the gods. So when someone asked the A.I.s to deal with chaos, being cold logic, they started murdering all of the living things in the universe to starve the chaos gods to death.

      @blueline4857 2 ปีที่แล้ว +39

      Wouldn't explain why Men of Iron went crazy across the whole galaxy almost simultaneously
      My theory is that since Mars is where the Void Dragon sits and where the Mechanicum got started, the Void Dragon slipped viruses and backdoors into the computers of Mars and those codes were copied into other robots across the galaxy. Eventually the Void Dragon triggered the machines hoping the chaos would allow it to slip out of its prison and unite with its other fragments and become a whole C'Tan again.

      @panzercreed5417 2 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      @@blueline4857 Well I think all the computers and A.I.s were connected via the advanced version of the internet. One of the reasons we don't see internet in the years of 40k is because its probably banned along with A.I. That and it being lost tech. During the Horus Hersey the magnos of mars had to shut down their whole network to stop the junk code from spreading. They are both just theries of course. Cool ones to talk about though.

      @@panzercreed5417 I’m fairly certain they have an equivalent to the internet in 40K on civilized worlds, even if it’s not used like how we use our internet. I think it’s mentioned that there’s something called a “Noosphere” which allows them to send images and information to each other rapidly, especially for Space Marines and Tech Priests.
      However internets of any normal kind wouldn’t connect across systems. That requires astropaths and warp communication.

    Servitors are pretty much THE grimdark thing in WH40k´s Imperium of Man.
    From petty criminals to hardcore gangers, Chaos cultists, to those who are just unproductive and thus poor, sometimes bred for it, sometimes having been a slave, the Empire shows little mercy.
    Yet that too is a key aspect of the setting, as humans are forced to struggle against a universe that has proven itself willing to snuff them out just as mercilessly if they don´t.

    • @anthonylamonica8301
      @anthonylamonica8301 2 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      It get's grimmer and darker. Are you familiar with Cherubs? They're just like every other Servitor in the Imperium of Man, complete with their occasional moments of horrified lucidity... except they're made out of _toddlers and infants_ for some awful reason. The Mechanicus and the Ecclesiarchy _swear_ that they only use vat-grown children for this purpose... but they also make and use Juvenat, which is distilled essence of life-force extracted from the cells of poor kids, so it's pretty hard to trust them at their word as to how they source their bewinged baby meat.
      Even _Inquisitors_ feel sick when a Cherub briefly "wakes up" and starts _shrieking_ like a scared infant that has had wires, tubes, and batteries shoved into and through it without anesthetic, which is basically what happened to them. If an _Inquisitor_ thinks that something is awful, _that_ should inspire dread.

    Yeah, I can't imagine too many fates worse than becoming a Servitor; I'm sure that the worst of the Chaos Cults, and the Dark Eldar they so long to compete with could, but I'm not asking. It reminds me of a story I was sort of writing once, in a challenge to take some of the worst edge off of Necromancy. In it, when people died, their bodies were given to the Crown, and animated to be put to use. Criminals were usually turned into laborers; compelled to build roads, structures, etc, and others were drafted into the army. It was morbid, but then one asked "if your grandfather could save his village, even after he died; fight off the bandits and brigands that would threaten his loved ones, and the place he helped build, would he literally claw his way out of his grave, or choose to languish there, rotting, and await you on the other side?" It wasn't necessarily all sunshine and rainbows, but the dead were a bit of a resource, and put to use. Servitors are a similar, terrible thing.
    As for your trip to Europe, I hope you have a blast, and please stay well! A coworker of a friend just got back from Ireland, and brought a rona-shaped keepsake with her. Hope your trip is wonderful!

    He tries to torture information out of this thing, but the Servitor can no longer feel pain and just laughs at him before saying "I'll tell you what you want to know after you convince that I get to walk out of here alive." That Servitor was fucking sassy and I love him.

It probably has less then half of it's original body left and before it escaped it was probably forced into doing mundane tasks endlessly, plus it's probably well aware that it's no longer a itself completely anymore, so it's already been through extreme torture to be made into one, it's probably aware part of it's mind and who it once was is gone, and it was probably forced to do boring shit endlessly with no way to make it stop so it's been tortured mentally and extreme amount to.

    Majorkill, Australian here. A family historian relative looking at the criminal records of our ancestors noticed that the crimes didn't add up and *just happened to be enough for transportation.*
    The ancestor in question broke into a mansion (without damaging any locks) and stole _only a few_ pieces of silver dinnerware - leaving everything else there.
    The value of the dinnerware was just in the sweet spot to get them seven years and transportation, if they'd stolen the entire set then that would be a very harsh sentence, so they stole only a small amount of what was there but somehow didn't get charged with breaking and entering either.
    They (he had a accomplice) were convicted solely on the testimony of a market trader they apparently tried to sell the monogrammed silverware to.
    And here's the kicker, my ancestor was a 22 year old fit blacksmiths apprentice who was near the end of his training - a very desirable person to have as a colonist.
    The historian checked a list of some other criminals and there just happened to be a crime wave of skilled young men without wives committing offences just severe enough to get them transportation, but not jail for the rest of their lives.
    And once the colony was firmly established, there also happened to be a crime wave in Britian of young single women … who were then sent to Australia to be wives of the now freed former convicts.
    Wild coincidence that.
    So we (British convict settlers) were framed!!
    I'm sure that's great comfort for the indigenous tribes … …
    But what has this to do with 40K?
    C'mon, you know that when there's a Servitor shortage and not enough candidates, Local Imperial officials are going to falsely arrests whatever suitable disposable candidates they can find, and just make up crimes to say they committed.

      @@nonyabisness6306 actually yes. given that the bare minimum for a cyborg is a biological brain and that the space marines black carapace is actually more likely a system of small wires that take orders directly from the muscles and turn them into movement commands they are all cyborgs. also makes one wonder if at one point a cyborg imperial knight existed. and nope i dont mean the implants the pilot needs to controll his mech but a imperial knight mech controlled by a brain in a jar.

      @@Irobert1115HD it's certainly possible. Given that the basic Tech exists, nothing would stop anyone from propping in a brain in a jar into an Imperial Knight, Imperial Titan or even an Imperial Warship.

    Majorkill, as a Spaniard, take my advice: WHEN RUNNING IN FRONT OF A BULL, ALWAYS TAKE THE TURNS IN THE INNER SIDE. Bulls are extremely fast and heavy, so they always take the turns through the outer side of the curve.
    Also, if your trip is to Pamplona:
    1-don't take breakfast before the run, and after it search for an "almuercico"
    2- idk if he is still alive but there's and old bald man that stays in the same pace of the wall in the starting point of the run, watching. Ask someone where is he and shake his hand. It gives you luck and it's a very important tradition. People in Pamplona will feel honored to know an Australian knows about him.
    3- if you fall in during race, just roll outside. The walls are made out of wood, they are called "burladeros" and the have gaps in between and underneath so you can roll or slide under
    4- if a bull falls behind, DON'T TRY TO ATTRACT THEM INTO FOLLOWING THE RIGHT PATH. There's already people who do that.
    5- TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS, and DON'T TRY TO RUN THE FULL RACE if you're feeling tired from partying.
    6-Have Fun and welcome to Spain!

    Always thought that ecclesiarchy worlds were perfect venues for a post-discontent society where the entire population could be servitor-ised into worship of the emperor, and they could wholeheartedly love it. Like, this wouldn't be milqetoast observance, but real (even if induced) devotion. Or even a 40k-equivalent of Mercerism, where the populace could try shoulder some of the weight of the Emperor. Could even have an Imperial version of the infinity circuit because forgeworlds Altar of Knowledge communicate with each other through servitor-ised astropaths.

    It should be noted that even the level to which servitors are modified is varied. Some won’t even be completely lobotomized, just enhanced with augmetics. For some servitors their servitude isn’t even permanent, it’s just a temporary punishment. The pilot servitor in Ravenor is also a good example. Had a sense of self preservation and bickered with the main characters. Most likely only had augments necessary to be a better pilot.
