Well seems to be a unpopular opinion. But I actually was fine with the new VA for Chris. After around episode 3 (watched the whole season, no spoilers tho 😁) I got used to it. It honestly really helps that we got someone who's already been a Host before with this being the Don VA. I love RR so this didn't really affect me. I think people are overreacting and criticizing him before seeing the show. Those trailer clips, are horrible and don't sound like he normally does in the show. TLDR: New Chris VA is pretty good ngl, and I'm not that mad that they changed the VA's
Minor characterization spoiler, but I find it weird how Raj and Wayne’s intros make them seem like antagonistic bullies, but then immediately become the best pair of himbos that can do no wrong

Well in contrast, we listened to Emma and Chase talk about their heterosexual relationship all season, so I guess Bowie mentioning he kisses boys every once in a while its not bad 😅 This season was so unexpectedly good!

I'll do I'm not going to lie it's not all reboots are bad I mean look at all the different reboot series of the Transformers cartoons the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and even sonic they got some good ones and they have some bad ones.
When I realized that Bowie was more than the token gay stereotype, I was SO RELIEVED! He's easily one of my favorite characters in this season. His friendship with Emma also really made me happy, and despite wishing she'd been written better, I really like Emma, too.

I get the point of her and Chase representing the toxicity of the couples who do prank channels together where they're constantly pranking each other and stuff, but she didn't deserve to have almost no character traits outside of hating him and then get back together with him. She had an awesome friendship with Bowie that could have been built upon, probably would have gotten along really well with some of the other girls, and was apparently a strong enough competitor in the eyes of the other contestants that she needed to be voted out the second they had the opportunity, and I honestly believe that because imagine how terrifying her drive, focus and pettiness would be if applied to the game more often. Emma genuinely deserved SO much better. (Watching her verbally and physically destroy Chase repeatedly was honestly cathartic as hell, though)
Honestly I thought they'd keep cashing in the dramarama checks. Good on them for creating an at least semi-faithful reboot with thought and care. (Except Chris's new voice, thats almost as criminal as his actions.)

this. Like if they already went the mile with having the same VA, it's either try to replicate Chris' Voice, or just swap it for Don. It's a reboot either way, so it would have been better to do it right from the start, rather then stick with Chris. For me, I'm *fine* with the voice and chris staying, but it needs improvement.

Makes sense. The original total Drama was in the late 2000’s and it’s 2023 now. The original audience has probably grown up so it’s good to go for characters more aligned to the current stereotypes.
Why do people keep complaining about Chris' voice? It's fine for me and it doesn't detract from the show. I loved how Chris' whole kill the kids thing was halted by Chef a lot in this season, really lets Chef get more screentime and doesn't let Chris go full murderous again. Damien is the best TDI character of all time, I love him, he deserves to win.
It just sounds off putting to see his face and hear that voice. Me personally I actually kind of like it because Don’s voice is more survivor friendly and it really felt like the whole season was much more in like with the survivor theme, even if it didn’t include immunity idols (season4-6) or a jury (season 2). The elimination ceremonies were finally intense again and if I hadn’t been spoiled to the elimination I would’ve been much more scared during eachother elimination ceremony.
Zee is one of my favorite characters of 2023 he is just too funny and somehow the fact that he wasn't the brightest was never annoying to me plus he was just always fun to watch
Total Drama Island 2023 revived some hope that Total Drama will be great again. The cast of characters was surprisingly good, considering the trainwreck Pakitew Island's cast was. I've only seen a couple episodes and so far, Zee and Bowie are my favorites.
1000% Agree this is this makes it into my top 3 Seasons tbh (WT is first and og season 2nd ). This cast brought fresh life to the series and I'm excited to see them back, hopefully they do it in another setting! (Like Action or WT).
I can’t believe I’m saying this but I think this is the third best season after world tour and island. I love everyone on the cast except scary girl and emma. Other than the blatant fetish inserts/fart jokes and some contrived eliminations, I really have no complaints. It’s really flipping good
Legitimately Bowie surprised me the most out of all the cast members, I thought he was gonna be a one note character voted out but he’s honestly my favourite contestant in this season though I do think his love dynamic with ray was the weakest part of his character but I think it’s probably due to the shorter episode run time they’ve been doing for years now, guaranteed if it had the 26 episode run it would have been much more fleshed out.
After the disappointment that was Pahkitew Island, I'm just glad to see that this was a fairly decent season. For your two main gripes, here's what I have to say: For the voice change, while it does seem a bit off-putting, it doesn't really seem that bad if I'm being quite honest. The same applies to the new theme song of the show, while it's not as good as the original, I still liked nonetheless.
Tbh i just thought that Pahkitew was "Meh" but I do agree that season is an improvement over it. Not only is it an improvement over this but it's also an improvement over Dramarama as well.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed they bring back some Gen 1 characters, whether for them to be contestants again or cameos. I really want Owen and Izzy to come back and pick up their relationship again they ended it so horribly
I was very conflicted on Scary Girl. I appreciate the goth girl archetype and I guess she was the double down that eventually becomes Harley Quinn wannabe that craves blood and violence. By the second episode my eyes rolled back into my skull, down my spine and ended up down the flush of shame from whenever Scary girl spoke. However, by the time she was gone I ended up missing her a little.
I would put this series in the dead middle on a tier list. I would always be down to watch it again and it's really good, but at the same time, I don't think anything can compete with the brilliance of the first 3 season (Until they start bringing back 26 episodes per season) In fact, I think that's the only issue I had with the show. 13 Episodes was not enough time for one season, and while I'm glad the entire cast is coming back for a second season so we get more development, I do wish that these two seasons were 26 episodes each, but what I am hoping is that these two seasons serve as a "trial" that tells the producers that people really like this series and want more seasons, so they'd make more 26 episode seasons
I've been waiting for years for Total Drama to come back so I was so excited to hear that this came out! I'm glad you said something about the Chris voice actor, the theme song, and chef being more like the daycare version of him.
i love the elimination ceremonies tbh... from the teams walking to the campfire and how chef will list all the reasons someone might be voted, its just my favorite campfire ceremony equivalent in a while. especially since in the OG island so many people were voted out with very little explanation, mainly Izzy who didnt make much sense as the boot for that episode (especially since the other person in the final 2 was gwen meaning gwen and izzy got more votes than heather that episode?) and bridgette because while they explained why she was eliminated, the votes dont really add up, and if everyone told the truth it wouldve been a tie between her and duncan
My only criticisms of the new remake were Chris's voice and the tempo. I'm not sure if the show's creators knew how important Chris's voice was to the show. They kept his dialogue fairly consistent, but I wish they had gone the Rick and Morty approach and hired someone who sounded similar. It is good to see it back though.

Tbh I didnt even think ripper was that bad, the toilet humor is definitely a problem and I can see why people would hate him for that but he has many funny moments and great one liners later in the season that I can't help but love him
This season was awesome, major spoilers ahead. I wish the f3 had Julia instead of Millie, that just makes more sense to me. But I would keep the same ending overall. This show genuinely made me laugh and I’m so happy it came back.

Awesome, I'm glad it is actually good. I really didn't want to watch it after all the Twitter stuff, hearing the intro, and Chris' voice change but since it's for a good reason they changed his voice actor I'm fine with it and if the characters are decent them I'm definitely interested!
My issue with the new Chris voice actor, is that he sounds exactly like Don. There wasn't an effort made to distinguish the new Don from the new Chris, so you end up just wondering why they didn't just have Don hosts the show instead

This new season had such lousy marketing that did not impress me and made me DREAD this season's arrival. A long LONG wait for any further news from when they first announced it. Spoiler leaks in the trailers. No release fate for the longest time. The news that it was gonna be thirteen episodes and not twenty six. The animation shots on the posters looked like something from Paketiew Island. The conformation that the season would tackle a gay pairing, when TD is KNOWN for bad representation (even if you love TD, you have to admit that). And of course, releasing THE ENTIRE SEASON, in ONE DAY. (What is wrong with Fresh TV and their marketing strategies?!) Also, they gave the season to Italy and no one else, and it's caused TH-cam to attempt an Undertale Genocide Run on TD TH-cam channels. So I was expecting the WORST going in... Now I desperately want someone out there to make a side by side comparison with Velma and TDI2023 on how and how NOT to make a franchise reboot. They came out in the same year. It's perfect.
This season was fire I am so glad that because of this season there is hope for the entire franchise i itself. I feel like next season Damien, MK, Scary Girl/Lauren, and Axel are going to develop more, maybe not be finalist but just get more screen time and plot, cause they set Damien up to be a main character of next season, clearly Scary Girl has a thing for Damien and they are 100% using that for next season plus she's such an unique character, MK was getting more interesting and then she got eliminated, i really hope that they develop her more, Axel is kinda the best "strong badass woman with anger" character they have done, i hated eva but shes like a mix of Eva and Sean and i would like to actually her get just a little bit more of screen time
i think chris feels like world tour chris, just more honest, because he interacts with characters and has a good dynamic with chef, which works here as a “reboot”

I watched TDI when it first aired. I kinda left off around TDA, because the tv was full of realities during that time and I kinda got tired + the fact we didn't have CN anymore...yeah. and back then, you didn't just google "TDA all episodes free no virus"..anyway I watched the entire reboot yesterday, and hoo boy, it actually did bring back memories. a lot. Chris is somehow still the very exact same, absolute sadistic monster, he is the only one between these type of characters, who I absolutely love. I actually liked Chef in those few episodes, which I've seen of the season, where everyone is a little kid. Chef is a good character. I'd have loved if the show actually showed us more about their relationship, because they could be interesting, knowing that Chris doesn't really like anyone else, but himself, and yet.. and as for the rest, there were actually moments that surprised me with their twists! like, I have 10 years of experience working in media, and even I was, like "ah, this is smart!" idk how, but they somehow achieved a very similar quality to the original TDI and I'm all for it.
I never viewed this as a reboot but a continuation of the old show with a new cast! Also Chef being made a softee makes sense if u watch total drama Rama where chef SHINES it makes sense he would be softer comin off that. Nothing bad about the review, loved it, and I liked listening to your recap of the characters. I just… find the whole “Every reboot is an immediate cashgrab” gag a bit much. While yes, a lot of IP’s have gotten cheap reboots, it does not mean that every reboot is bad. There were also a lot of great reboots & revisits to older shows in the last few years. Ducktales is the best example of it, but things like animaniacs, Looney toons show/Looney toons cartoons, The tom and Jerry reboots, Rise of the teenage mutant ninja turtles and TDI also do justice to modern reboots. Even stuff like the Ben 10 reboot, after the extremely tough start, begins to show its passion and honestly become a decent show by the end, with a lot of connections to the old show and fun references, in addition to building its own world with the vilgax specials and the time travel episode. What I’m saying is, please don’t just rule off something for being a reboot, that stigma feels misplaced and can prevent stuff similar to the invader Zim or rocko movies to not be greenlit , and cause people to skip on shows they might really like Also seriously watch ducktales 2017 it’s awesome
I understand, they fired Chris' original voice actor and replaced it with a new one. But why didn't they decide to hire a voice actor that sounds so much like Chris? I know there are some people out there that can do an accurate Chris McLean sound alike. But oh well, after watching couple of episodes im starting to get used to his new voice.

Zee is one of my favorite characters of 2023 he is just too funny and somehow the fact that he wasn't the brightest was never annoying to me plus he was just always fun to watch

Total Drama Island 2023 revived some hope that Total Drama will be great again. The cast of characters was surprisingly good, considering the trainwreck Pakitew Island's cast was. I've only seen a couple episodes and so far, Zee and Bowie are my favorites.
1000% Agree this is this makes it into my top 3 Seasons tbh (WT is first and og season 2nd ). This cast brought fresh life to the series and I'm excited to see them back, hopefully they do it in another setting! (Like Action or WT).
I can’t believe I’m saying this but I think this is the third best season after world tour and island. I love everyone on the cast except scary girl and emma. Other than the blatant fetish inserts/fart jokes and some contrived eliminations, I really have no complaints. It’s really flipping good

Bowie absolutely carried this season and he’s absolutely my favourite
Legitimately Bowie surprised me the most out of all the cast members, I thought he was gonna be a one note character voted out but he’s honestly my favourite contestant in this season though I do think his love dynamic with ray was the weakest part of his character but I think it’s probably due to the shorter episode run time they’ve been doing for years now, guaranteed if it had the 26 episode run it would have been much more fleshed out.
Bowie's just a fierce competitor likes himbos, and I love that for him ❤
After the disappointment that was Pahkitew Island, I'm just glad to see that this was a fairly decent season.
For your two main gripes, here's what I have to say:
For the voice change, while it does seem a bit off-putting, it doesn't really seem that bad if I'm being quite honest.
The same applies to the new theme song of the show, while it's not as good as the original, I still liked nonetheless.
Tbh i just thought that Pahkitew was "Meh" but I do agree that season is an improvement over it. Not only is it an improvement over this but it's also an improvement over Dramarama as well.

As an italian fan, the fact that the new tdi season came out in italy first is so funny and weird and i love it
I was very conflicted on Scary Girl. I appreciate the goth girl archetype and I guess she was the double down that eventually becomes Harley Quinn wannabe that craves blood and violence. By the second episode my eyes rolled back into my skull, down my spine and ended up down the flush of shame from whenever Scary girl spoke. However, by the time she was gone I ended up missing her a little.
Off-topic but do you like Lydia Deetz? ( Beetlejuice🪲🧃) I would say she's my favorite goth girl. 🖤

I would put this series in the dead middle on a tier list. I would always be down to watch it again and it's really good, but at the same time, I don't think anything can compete with the brilliance of the first 3 season (Until they start bringing back 26 episodes per season) In fact, I think that's the only issue I had with the show. 13 Episodes was not enough time for one season, and while I'm glad the entire cast is coming back for a second season so we get more development, I do wish that these two seasons were 26 episodes each, but what I am hoping is that these two seasons serve as a "trial" that tells the producers that people really like this series and want more seasons, so they'd make more 26 episode seasons
I've been waiting for years for Total Drama to come back so I was so excited to hear that this came out! I'm glad you said something about the Chris voice actor, the theme song, and chef being more like the daycare version of him.

i love the elimination ceremonies tbh... from the teams walking to the campfire and how chef will list all the reasons someone might be voted, its just my favorite campfire ceremony equivalent in a while. especially since in the OG island so many people were voted out with very little explanation, mainly Izzy who didnt make much sense as the boot for that episode (especially since the other person in the final 2 was gwen meaning gwen and izzy got more votes than heather that episode?) and bridgette because while they explained why she was eliminated, the votes dont really add up, and if everyone told the truth it wouldve been a tie between her and duncan
My only criticisms of the new remake were Chris's voice and the tempo. I'm not sure if the show's creators knew how important Chris's voice was to the show. They kept his dialogue fairly consistent, but I wish they had gone the Rick and Morty approach and hired someone who sounded similar.
It is good to see it back though.
I'm like 6 episodes in and this season low-key fire.
Also at times the Don VA sounds like Chris so imo he's doing a good job

My issue with the new Chris voice actor, is that he sounds exactly like Don. There wasn't an effort made to distinguish the new Don from the new Chris, so you end up just wondering why they didn't just have Don hosts the show instead

This new season had such lousy marketing that did not impress me and made me DREAD this season's arrival.
A long LONG wait for any further news from when they first announced it. Spoiler leaks in the trailers. No release fate for the longest time. The news that it was gonna be thirteen episodes and not twenty six. The animation shots on the posters looked like something from Paketiew Island. The conformation that the season would tackle a gay pairing, when TD is KNOWN for bad representation (even if you love TD, you have to admit that). And of course, releasing THE ENTIRE SEASON, in ONE DAY. (What is wrong with Fresh TV and their marketing strategies?!) Also, they gave the season to Italy and no one else, and it's caused TH-cam to attempt an Undertale Genocide Run on TD TH-cam channels.
So I was expecting the WORST going in...
Now I desperately want someone out there to make a side by side comparison with Velma and TDI2023 on how and how NOT to make a franchise reboot. They came out in the same year. It's perfect.
This season was fire I am so glad that because of this season there is hope for the entire franchise i itself. The only issue is the new intro song if they made it the old version then that would've been so much better. But for real though this season was really good

Cuz Owen makes a cameo for Priya's training and that makes sense cuz he won the original season, in my opinion I think this is more of a revival, and probably when Chris said they are invited for a rematch, is a rematch for people from all seasons, and that could be connected to what Noah said on RR (they where invited to a new season of...)

I watched TDI when it first aired. I kinda left off around TDA, because the tv was full of realities during that time and I kinda got tired + the fact we didn't have CN anymore...yeah. and back then, you didn't just google "TDA all episodes free no virus"..anyway
I watched the entire reboot yesterday, and hoo boy, it actually did bring back memories. a lot. Chris is somehow still the very exact same, absolute sadistic monster, he is the only one between these type of characters, who I absolutely love. I actually liked Chef in those few episodes, which I've seen of the season, where everyone is a little kid. Chef is a good character. I'd have loved if the show actually showed us more about their relationship, because they could be interesting, knowing that Chris doesn't really like anyone else, but himself, and yet..
and as for the rest, there were actually moments that surprised me with their twists! like, I have 10 years of experience working in media, and even I was, like "ah, this is smart!"
idk how, but they somehow achieved a very similar quality to the original TDI and I'm all for it.
I never viewed this as a reboot but a continuation of the old show with a new cast! Also Chef being made a softee makes sense if u watch total drama Rama where chef SHINES it makes sense he would be softer comin off that. And yea there’s a guy who does Chris voice in Switchies videos he could’ve did Chris voice easy

Nothing bad about the review, loved it, and I liked listening to your recap of the characters.
I just… find the whole “Every reboot is an immediate cashgrab” gag a bit much. While yes, a lot of IP’s have gotten cheap reboots, it does not mean that every reboot is bad. There were also a lot of great reboots & revisits to older shows in the last few years. Ducktales is the best example of it, but things like animaniacs, Looney toons show/Looney toons cartoons, The tom and Jerry reboots, Rise of the teenage mutant ninja turtles and TDI also do justice to modern reboots. Even stuff like the Ben 10 reboot, after the extremely tough start, begins to show its passion and honestly become a decent show by the end, with a lot of connections to the old show and fun references, in addition to building its own world with the vilgax specials and the time travel episode.
What I’m saying is, please don’t just rule off something for being a reboot, that stigma feels misplaced and can prevent stuff similar to the invader Zim or rocko movies to not be greenlit , and cause people to skip on shows they might really like

I understand, they fired Chris' original voice actor and replaced it with a new one. But why didn't they decide to hire a voice actor that sounds so much like Chris? I know there are some people out there that can do an accurate Chris McLean sound alike.
But oh well, after watching couple of episodes im starting to get used to his new voice.
