Your system is a good design and simple set up. I saw the Cat 22 design you described and think I'll try that first on my Venture 25 because I want to be able to carry the lift system in the boat. I will make it so the winch mount is raised about a foot above the mast. It will nicely clamp to the mast and index in the sail slot. I like the idea of being able to steady the mast while using the winch. Using a tall adjustable mast crutch and controlable lift system is important to safely lift and lower the mast. Thanks for the good video.

Good luck Jeff glad I've given you food for thought. Thanks for watching. Let me know how you get on 👍🏻

Excellent video, thanks for allowing me to steal your idea. I've a home built 24ft trimaran and I've just given her a 23ft mast. I'm struggling to raise the mast without help however your design looks perfect for me.

Oh wow love hearing this. Tis High praise coming from someone who's built their own boat. Is it wood or fibreglass? Either way those things are so fast I'd love to sail one one day.

Ps if I did it again I wouldn't bother with a winch and a strap roller I'd just use pully blocks and a cleat.

Great design. I've been studying on various setups. For single handing your set up is superior.

Thank you very much Mark. I reckon I found a better one on TH-cam since but I've had another look but can't find it now, If I do I'll post it on here. Basically he used the boom as a gin pole (with mast hinged forward) and a series of pullys that fed lines to the winches and it somehow compensated for the change in lengths etc. Still, this solution is quite simple none the less. Thanks for the +ve feedback. Good luck with yours.

What a pain mast raising is for mine. It's an older 22ft with an awkward shape and a lack of cleats. So far I used the marina crane but that is also too complicated to my taste. Your solution is quite brilliant.

I have a cat 22 and have found the best way for me to do this is to run my halyard through mount on the bow while leaving at least 1 side stay on either side attached. I then raise as far as I can by hand and then can hold the halyard as I step up high enough to raise the rest of the way. Works well for lowering as well! But your way surely works, just seems a lot more involved. Very clever!

I tried lifting it by myself but was just too heavy. It's a fractional rig so a bit longer than a Catalina's. I did consider doing what you suggest but didn't actually try it, maybe I'll give it a go... Might work if I can get it heaved up on a taller mast crutch initially. Any cross wind and I reckon the risk of it falling sideways would be pretty high though! Another issue with this particular boat is the huge companion way - there's not much space to stand under the mast to lift it up. Thanks for watching.

I have jag 22 and just as stingy sailor vid I use main sheet to pull mast up. I attach it to the trailer front post and the forestay. I have made a long telescopic crutch to help get it started but very easy and no faff..
Have you seen this video th-cam.com/video/VROe4wrvMDM/w-d-xo.html as think this system will work with a heavy mast

Great idea! I'm thinking about getting a seal 22 when lock down restrictions ease, how have you got on with yours? Thanks, Dan

Hi Dan, unfortunately I've not managed to sail her at sea with the main rig yet, however I have taken her to the broads twice - this year with a mirror dinghy rig! Can't wait to sail her properly, I reckon it'll be decent and I've heard good things. Now I've got a way of getting that mast up I will definitely get her to sea this year so watch this space!
