I worked as a disc jockey in 1971, and "Jingo Loba" was the opening tune in my set. The good old days when musicians masterfully played their instruments, when pure voices resonated without autotune, and when there were no cell phones to distract us.
Am beginning to like this as much as ..Soul Sacrifice.. The sound from this concert , over 50 years ago , is insane . The tone from Carlos sends shivers!
Chipito was an acquaintance of mine in the mid 1970s - got to play congas with him , on timbales at street festivals a couple of times . Man, that’s one loud experience! I own the black Echotone conga that Carrabello generally has as his middle drum . Chiptoe had about 12 congas , and EchoTones in white , red , black.and swirl patterns . They have beautiful , low & smooth hardware , very comfortable on the hand . I also have a set of timbales , I believe we’re his - but I can’t prove it - but I was there and knew him . I got to hang with them , not because I was a great player but I was just a white and a street player like them and , I guess had some “ fire “ in my playing that they appreciated . The way Chipito moved across the timbales was interesting- but traditional Latin players didn’t think much of Santana - it was rock not Latin and they played differently than more conservative trad Latin musics .
I really enjoy seeing Carlos orchestrate all the musicians and then play off the vibe. Seen this band about 6-7 times. Everyone is so connected. This group of artist were really nice to listen to
MAGNIFICOS! Especialmente el baterista, el gran Michael Shrieve....maestro! / MAGNIFICENT! Especially the drummer, the great Michael Shrieve....master!
I was 15 then ... Loved Santana!!! You know why? ...... Cuz a this!!!! 😌☺️💥🎼🎶🏔️📻❤️👌⚡🙏😎🤣🕊️ Oh God if Carlos and his buddies could have stayed right here!!! I stuck with Carlos until "Welcome" had to bail at that point. Every Music Lover gets their heart broke at some time... part of the game. 😥👋
You bailed at Welcome!?!? Dude, that is arguably his best album. Carlos is easily one of the greatest musicians and amazing song writers to ever live. Didja at least come back by Supernatural?
These people were born in perfect time hence they found the 70s and it was the best time for art… So a Carlos Santana is a product of good time… Unfortunately we can’t the same about us…
Started listening to this badass music at the young age of 9...listened to their 1st three albums repeatedly through “headphones” -their music is so distinct, unique & INTENSE...I absolutely LOVE how all the percussionists work so well together, all playing their own “layer” of the music, and how it all works together so magically synchronistic & undoubtedly INTENSE!! There is nothing that compares to this music, Santana made their own meaning of AUTHENTIC music, pure *authentic Santana*. So diggin watching these old videos & My fave -Michael Shrieve, beat the GOOD SHIT out of those drums of his, yes InDeeD!,!!! 👍👍💜💜❌❌💋💋❗️❗️🙏🌞
For me the best time of Santana was in his beginnings, Carlos mixed blues rock with touches of jazz and Latin rock, the use of feedback and the long sustain that would be his personal mark, with a Gibson SG special with two P-90s and amps that appear to be Randall Comander IImod with EL34 tubes that I later changed for the early Mesa / Boogie Mark I, this is the second lineup of the band in the early 70's....
Latin Percussion: .Mike Carrabello on congas (Puerto Rico) , Jose “Chepito” Areas on timbalas (Nicaragua), and young drummer Michael Shrieve (EE.UU). Percussionists
why are we naming ethnicities? carabello has grandparents on one side from puerto rico. carabello and schrieve born in america. all american nationality.
Carlos is a master. This is a fantastic album and right now in America there are a lot of racist clowns. Carlos put together a lineup of diversity and it is awesome. Right now we need people like Carlos to bring us together and stop the hate....
Very driving! The beginning of tune had shades of an Allman Brothers sound, in my opinion. What powerful percussions! Amazing...Carlos' guitar is searing! Thank you for posting!!!

And thus began the greatest decade in the history of rock music.

The best Latin rock music ever played in this planet
I!!!!!
So okay with you...!!!!!!
Fifty four years ago. Hard to believe. They brought a whole new genre to rock, and man was it awesome!
Gracias Chepito Áreas
Santana has always had his own unique sound. You will always know it's him.
It's more of a symphony, all the pieces in the band and no ego. Everyone just enjoying playing together
Never gets old. Raw talent and precious collaboration. A retrospect into an era of pure vision and inspiration.
My three favourite musicians in the one band - Santana, Rolie & Shrieve
Am beginning to like this as much as ..Soul Sacrifice.. The sound from this concert , over 50 years ago , is insane . The tone from Carlos sends shivers!

Loved Santana since 1970, the drums really penetrate the soul.
Dave Brown and Carlos Santana , bass player and guitar player perfect together.
I really enjoy seeing Carlos orchestrate all the musicians and then play off the vibe. Seen this band about 6-7 times. Everyone is so connected. This group of artist were really nice to listen to
Without saying a word. They say everything. Woaww!🎺🎶👍
Am I alone in thinking that Carlos Santana has the most recognizable electric guitar style of anyone ??!!!###
Yeah me and my dad can recognize that guitar from a country away
I'm 65 now, getting 66 this year. So it is concert is 54 years old and one of the best. People who didn't grew up this music have lost their life.0
When Carlos first stunned the world in his early twenties he was the most talented young guitarist I have ever since heard.
MAGNIFICOS! Especialmente el baterista, el gran Michael Shrieve....maestro! / MAGNIFICENT! Especially the drummer, the great Michael Shrieve....master!
takes my breath away listening to this great band.
Music for My ears and soul
Now,that's what I call a jam session! Awesome!

I love how the organist is working the drawbars to create those shifting tonalities. Such a tasty sound.
Gregg Rollie! The very best…

Sad, but true. Lucky to grow up in late 60's and 70's! Richly blessed with excellent music, musicians , Art & poetry with a solid purpose. 👍

And just then....Drums and bass were born, and Santana was that it was good.
Beautiful! These guys were the original Santana gang, from Santana I, II & III; if I am not mistaken. What an era!
