Good Morning! Two semi truck full of musical instruments equipment. And only three guys to bring all in. That amazing. They should pay you more for your work. And hired some more guys to help you. Terry Kath should have played around with a hand gun and play Russian roulette with it. I guess his parents never had a chance of talking to him about what not to do with a gun. He should be carrying one anyway. He should hired a trained military security guard to protect him and his band and crew members. Marlene Toledo Grayson
Terry had that great voice, could shred if he wanted, bends, slides, wah pedal and tremolo master, but retained the flow and spirit of the song. I only wish the sound man would have allowed simply more volume, for his guitar!
I think I was in junior high when I got my first CTA album. This version came out when I was a senior in high school. The Chicago that followed (65 or to 4) was never as good as this,
The 70's created the best music we've ever had. I am 79 years old and in my opinion, We were trying to make up/ rebel, or get back at the assholes who censored any kind of fresh thinking that didn't adhere to the conservative thinking of a few who had the power to control what music we were allowed to hear. Oldies but Goodies then Rock and Roll were lame and the pressure was building. The Beatles, from England, were allowed to come to the US and everything changed! Many new bands came out of the woodwork with all new music that "we" were starving for. Harmony with a guitar and sax in the background was no longer cutting it . Music is considered the opiode of the youth but when the change came, it was like a dam bursting. I got back from Vietnam in 67', right in the middle of this, talk about a ride... I was 22 and trying to adjust to the world. It was the best time of my life!
You should join your high school band. And take it as far as you can. I'm a self taught guitarist, drummer , and I'm 66 years old. Make your Dad proud and learn some Chicago! Although I'm sure he already was. Start with drums. Get a snare drum. Anything! You will not regret it.
This is like a religious experience. Unbelievable. I can't stop watching this. The jam with the percussion instruments is phenomenon. Thank you Chicago
I tell my kid that nobody really cared what you looked like, it was all about the music. Terry Kath- one of the greatest R&R musicians 60s- until he tragically died. RIP Terry💔
The original band was so very talented. Kath on guitar and vocals, Cetera on bass and vocals,Lamm on keyboards and vocals, Saraphine on drums and that amazing horn section of Loughnane,Pankow and Parazaider.
Amen to that. I don’t call it music today my friend. I think people didn’t know that real musicians actually played live. And with instruments!!!!’ Seriously
They had soul, man..and with Pete Cetera on base with a voice like an angel and Lamm on the Keyboards, also a great singer & songwriter, along with the the three best horn players in the world of rock and roll!

Nothing fancy here, no light show, no Marshall stacks, no smoke and no fanfare.......just come out on the stage and PLAY! Chicago did it better than them ALL!!
These guys were on fire this night. They didn't just play the music, they WERE the music. Even at 6:38 when Terry took a second to tune a string, he took it in stride and made it part of the performance - didn't phase him. I've never seen another band like this, ever. They not only set the bar, they WERE the bar!
Only other one I saw do that in stride, even drop his pick and make it part of the performance, to the point we're people even laughed with him about it was Hendrix. And as everyone knows, Jimi thought Terry was great. No secret two had a lot of respect for each other. And sadly, they both left us way too early.
@@mmcn4933 Nope... you're wrong again there too... "copy catting" isn't the same as "Original Creation". I agree with you about the cover band they are great, but they don't play ORIGINAL music and sounds. When I said recreate... i meant original. No body today could originally recreate this kind of soulful sound and music.
@@boataxe4605 Yes I've seen their videos and they are great . . . but I'm talking about an original band and sound. That's not going to come out of a garage sounding and feeling like bands like Chicago any time soon. (or commodores, earth wind and fire, blood sweat and tears, etc; etc.) Pure music.
That's pretty much all Neil young does is rhythm and vocals he does lead and vocals to . Srv and Hendrix are the masters at playing rhythm guitar and vocals 🤘
Back when music was pure & raw. Terry Kath was unreal. The only member of the group that didn't attend college or had professional lessons. He didn't even know how to write music. Self taught & the most underrated guitarists ever!
Fans of the original lineup of Chicago are familiar with the extraordinary playing of guitarist Terry Kath. The guitarist whom Jimi Hendrix said was "better than me" fused numerous styles and influences into a truly original style of playing. But while Kath's musical approach was innovative, his use of instruments and equipment was no less groundbreaking. In many ways, his use of various types of guitars, effects pedals and amplifiers was as original as his playing. - Terry Kath's Official Bio Pages Written by Tim Wood
Terry Kath is, was and will be the BEST live, studio, recorded and most talented guitarist of all time. Terry had to play both rhythm and lead and sing at the same time. Plus, he looked good. Post one band that is a band or could do it live. You are in the presence of greatness here.
If Terry Kath isn't in the the top 5 guitarists guitarist that ever played he's in the top 3!!! Remember this was early 70's. I think he is the greatest rock guitarest ever!!!
When I played drums, people used to ask me who I thought was the best drummer or if I could take lessons from anybody, whom. I always said Danny Seraphim of Chicago.
Every time I have watched this I have said damn, what in the hell just happened? These guys were up there having the time of their lives. The Terry Kath years were the absolute best!
@@JeanneDunham They played on a pier in Venice Beach CA for free in the summer of '69. They were CTA and i'd never heard any of their music but it was a free concert on the beach. I was tripping on lsd and they were so f**kin' amazinlgy good it really blew my mind. All kinds of wild psychedelic cartoon stuff was flying out of the horns of the horn player guys. And Terry Kath's amp had crazy-ass stuff flying of it, too.
Well, he was, kind of... I was covering his act easily at the time... Then he went " God, I'm so good" . Wanted to be the front man. Messed his act, lost all his creds. I don't miss him at all. Finally, just a thickhead. :-(
I read many of these comments, and I agree with everyone. Terry Kath was an awesome rock guitarist, and his solo on 25 or 6 to 4 is one of the best solos. I don't understand why he is not on the Rolling Stones top 100 guitarists list. If fans had a vote, he definitely would be on it.
I never fully appreciated Chicago before. I was too young to know about Kath and these early years, but pre-80s Chicago is a blast! Love it. Love Terry Kath's vibe, like a big rock n roll hug, and James Pankow's all-out enthusiasm, cheering on band mates. What a great time to be alive and in a band like Chicago!
This was before the choreographed acts, the smoke, stage sets, super lighting etc. You came out and made it happen. And if you could really kick out the jams, everybody got turned on. Chicago did it big, bold and ballsy. No other group like them.
+Jack Sprat Yes, and if you look at the line-up, you had Loughnane, Parazaider, and Pankow on the left, Lamm and Kath in the middle, and Seraphine and Cetera relegated to almost off stage. Their sound was wonderful, just shows to go that you don't need all the bells and whistles of today's concerts to compare with what we saw back in that day.
+74bshs I've noticed in a lot of these old Chicago videos that Cetera seemed to be isolated from the rest of the band.Maybe he preferred it that way, don't know...
It's so funny...This song is played in "Trust" (great TV show, by the way), and it is PERFECT in the scene...and I thought, "Yeah, I haven't heard that song since I was a kid." I was so shocked that it was Chicago...I guess they got crappy after they broke up and got back together? This type of stuff is amazing, and I never related any of it to Chicago....(child of the late 70s, 80s).
While today's music is complete garbage, this is beyond sublime. I was one month old when this was filmed; it gets better each time I tune in. Focus in on what each musician has to offer.
+Andrew Kling Because people get older and change and then they change things and it affects people and then more changes...it is a never ending cycle of life...for better or for worse...
How is Terry Kath not in the top five guitarists of all time? He blows away his contemporaries (Clapton, Page, etc) that music media have proclaimed the best ever.
I gave you a "thumb's up" for the question, & here's the best I can do for an answer... Have you ever been sitting around with your buddies, having a few beers, & for WHATEVER STUPID reason you get this sudden, instant impulse to do something absolutely asinine? Maybe.....umm, you "nudged" the back of your friend's chair, thinking he'd have to save it @ the last second, & spill his beer, (bong?) & everybody would have a good laff.... Ha Ha Ha...(& this entire "thought process" took you half of an instant?) anotherwords, not thought out @ ALL.... Buuuuut... INSTEAD of something "cool" happening, he falls straight backwards, CRACKS his head on the concrete floor, splits it open, & is bleeding profusely???? Maybe not this exact scenerio, but my point is, that Terry Kath had EVERY member of his band, his Family, & his friends, ALLLLL told him time & AGAIN, DON'T HANDLE ANY of your FIREARMS for ANY REASON when you've been DRINKING!!! BOOZE & GUNS DON'T MIX!!! Well, that's EXACTLY what he was (dis?)proving to one of his friends one evening when having (more than) a few beers, he picks up a semi-auto pistol, & to "Show" his friend how "safe" it was to BREAK the "Not when you're drunk" rule, he SEE'S that the clip is OUT, and in an INSTANT pulls it to his face (forgetting about the CHAMBERED round)....He expected to hear a "click" & get to laff it off, but instead, the LAST thing he ever heard was a LOUD BANG...... THAT'S why he hasn't made any "Best of all time" lists, lack of time on earth, & in CHICAGO, it was always a GROUP effort, "NO clear Stand-out in the group"... So, anyway, that's the story, & my take on the whole damnedable tragedy...
He is a great drummer but the truth is he is the only weak link in this concert. He is dragging pretty bad & is why Kath & Pankow are in his face. He must've taken a quaalude or something before this concert.
Yeah! Terry Kath is the underrated guitarist of all-time, but Danny Seraphine is definitely the underrated drummer, especially by his OWN BAND! They kicked him out because (in their words) “he couldn’t figure out where ONE was!” He was really kicked out because he took an interest in their contracts. He was on a radio show I was producing, and when the host asked who was responsible for getting rid of him, he said “I’ll just give you the initials: RL.” I always had a feeling...
@@lynnturman8157 Not really. This has got to be a bootleg recording (not a bad one), so you're not getting proper desk mix, AND, Danny lost his bass drum part way through the song, but carried on very well regardless. I like it because it made it different.
Such a hot band back then. Terry could write, arrange, and was the best guitarist of his day. He was a killer guitar player. They still haven't been able to replace him.
That volume control feedback Terry uses for the actual chords, besides Danny's absolutely one-of-a-kind drum performance on this song, and everybody's involvement in percussion, is also what makes their performance on this song, one-of-a-kind.

@@fyoukungflu5881 he probably wasn't there anymore, plus he says "at the time" which probably means 1970-ish, he only started playing with guns towards the end of his life
Good Morning!
A.¹ Congratulations!
Real music stopped shortly after that! Mid 80's maybe, today they're just goin through the motions!!
Dudes the most underrated guitar player of his time...if not all time.
Mike Romigh you bet,and still loved!
Amen!
Absolutely!! Voted guitar god of 1970 as good as any of them Hendrix Eddie van Hanlon Clapton etc.
Jimy Hendrix said" I am good guitarist but this cat "Terry Kath" blows me away."
Underrated by whom? Madonna fans? Beyonce fans? J-Lo fans? Those opinions are worthless.
No smoke, lights and mirrors here. Just straight ahead heavy, hard, balls out Rock n Roll. Nothing like it anywhere.
The only song in the universe that does NOT need “more cowbell”…it’s fricken perfect!
I agree with you brother....... I gotta have my cow bells
Thank Jimmy Pankow, the trombone player for that. He wrote a few of their songs, too. An awesome musician like the rest of the band.
Hahaha!😂
Yay! Agree!🥰
Terry Kath is one of the finest guitarists in history...
amen brother
Terry had that great voice, could shred if he wanted, bends, slides, wah pedal and tremolo master, but retained the flow and spirit of the song. I only wish the sound man would have allowed simply more volume, for his guitar!
You Sir are 100% correct!!
He could do everything well.
I should be happy when I hear Terry play - but I'm sad when I think of the magic we missed when we lost him...
Terry Kath played that guitar like he was trying to kill it. One of the best bands ever and quite possibly the best guitarist of all time.
I've never seen someone control a guitar like it was a part of his self like Mr. Kath..Just phenomenal.
So true, it's as though his guitar is an extension of his arm !! Amazing !
Jimi Hendrix said, "He's a better guitar player than I am!" Can't argue with that?
Jimi Hendrix once named "the best guitarist in the universe"

i agree
Terry had a voice on top of that guitar...truly gifted...early Chicago was incredible 👏
He was the complete package...guitar, vocals, writing. I was fortunate, I saw them in November 1977.
Terry Kath was one of top best guitarists ever in the early band of chicago
The 70's created the best music we've ever had.
I am 79 years old and in my opinion,
We were trying to make up/ rebel, or get back at the assholes who censored any kind of fresh thinking that didn't adhere to the conservative thinking of a few who had the power to control what music we were allowed to hear.
Don't over-think it...but thank you for your service!

Bless your soul Mr. Emerson, I agree with you completely, except it all started in the mid 60’s. Eric Burden, Spencer Davis, etc.
i am a 14 year old teenager and Chicago is one my favs bands to listen to my dad who passed away 2 years in 2022 he got me into Chicago
He had great taste in music 🤙🏻🤙🏻
I’m sorry for your loss. Your dad killer taste in music.
You should join your high school band. And take it as far as you can. I'm a self taught guitarist, drummer , and I'm 66 years old. Make your Dad proud and learn some Chicago! Although I'm sure he already was. Start with drums. Get a snare drum. Anything! You will not regret it.
Not only is Terry Kath a guitar God, but I love his soulful voice. Awesome.
You got that right!!!!
He was Mr Hendrix favorite guitarist....
So there you go....
The great Jimi also liked Billy Gibbons, said that to Johnny Carson
It's like John Fogerty big powerful cousin...
This is like a religious experience. Unbelievable. I can't stop watching this. The jam with the percussion instruments is phenomenon.
Thank you Chicago

In my humble opinion, it is the best version of " I'm a man" by the best American rock band.
I still like Spencer Davis group version better
They are great as well. No doubt.
The original band was so very talented. Kath on guitar and vocals, Cetera on bass and vocals,Lamm on keyboards and vocals, Saraphine on drums and that amazing horn section of Loughnane,Pankow and Parazaider.
Yes it is
They were exceptional !
This is 50 yrs old, and still better than ANY of the crap music they make today.
Amen to that. I don’t call it music today my friend. I think people didn’t know that real musicians actually played live. And with instruments!!!!’ Seriously
They were never quite the same without Terry Kaths guitar and vocals.😞
Damn straight!
Fuckin A..
Amen. Saw them freshman year of college in ‘69, Philadelphia, PA.
You will NEVER hear music 🎶 like this ever again! The S**T they come out with today is not music! "They don't write em like that anymore".
This song was originally done by the Spencer Davis band with Steve Winwood
So true! My daddy and I just had this conversation.
Awsome
I believe that somewhere in the world, there are people who feel the same emotions that I feel when I listen to masterpieces like this song.
Terry Kath and a world class drummer....can't get any better than that. And....it's not a song, it's a party! These guys were phenomenal.
Peter Centara was a good bass player and great voice too.
@@cliffbrown2566 Not world class though. Just ask Entwistle, Squire or Pastorius.
They had soul, man..and with Pete Cetera on base with a voice like an angel and Lamm on the Keyboards, also a great singer & songwriter, along with the the three best horn players in the world of rock and roll!

The immense talent of Steve Winwood and the Specer Davis Group aside, Chicago OWNS this song.
52 years ago. Absolute brilliance then, even more so today. The likes of which you’ll never see again.
I've seen them 5 times!!! Saw the Beatles once too
Sadly - you could say that about many things today. ….
I'm a mere 57. Where are all the lights, lasers, Pyro, dancers? Oh, yeah. They actually played MUSIC!
54 years later and this song still holds up well. Thanks Terry Kath and little Stevie Winwood.
Terry Kath was phenomenal. What an amazing guitarist and singer! I was so fortunate to see Chicago in their original form in the mid-1970’s.
Yes, I got to see them Live as well back then

I saw them in Cincinnati Ohio in 1976. Phenomenal!!
51 years ago and Terry Kath still one of the all time great guitarists!!
I couldn't agree more.
Jimi Hendrix said in an interview that Kath was the greatest guitarist
Without a doubt.....he was one of the best of all time
Nothing fancy here, no light show, no Marshall stacks, no smoke and no fanfare.......just come out on the stage and PLAY! Chicago did it better than them ALL!!
And no brigade of dancers
I only saw them once at Wesley in Middletown Connecticut. My mind is still blown there were the greatest thing ever
Hard to believe that Terry Kath was self taught...just brilliant..!
He was a genius. They are almost always self taught.
He did take music lessons. But abandoned them because he thought they were too limiting. Lucky for us he did.

These guys were on fire this night. They didn't just play the music, they WERE the music. Even at 6:38 when Terry took a second to tune a string, he took it in stride and made it part of the performance - didn't phase him. I've never seen another band like this, ever. They not only set the bar, they WERE the bar!
I had never noticed Terry tuning that string before you mentioned it - and I have viewed this video a number of times. Good catch!
Only other one I saw do that in stride, even drop his pick and make it part of the performance, to the point we're people even laughed with him about it was Hendrix.
And as everyone knows, Jimi thought Terry was great.

Pure music.
its a shame we lost him so early, the music we would have been given to enjoy..... i can only imagine....wow....
Terry Kath playing rhythm, lead and singing at the same time. How many guitarists could do that? And at that level.

- Terry Kath's Official Bio Pages

Terry Kath is, was and will be the BEST live, studio, recorded and most talented guitarist of all time. Terry had to play both rhythm and lead and sing at the same time. Plus, he looked good. Post one band that is a band or could do it live. You are in the presence of greatness here.
Even now, when I'm in a good mood, which is rare amidst all the crap goin' on, I use Terry's saying. "Alright, let's kep it goin'!"

Has anybody in the history of the Internet ever remarked what an amazing bass player Peter Cetera is? The guy is a wunderkind!
Well, he was, kind of... I was covering his act easily at the time... Then he went " God, I'm so good" . Wanted to be the front man. Messed his act, lost all his creds. I don't miss him at all. Finally, just a thickhead. :-(
Peter Ceteras voice made Chicago a lot of money. After Terry died the guitar parts for him sucked. The two of them together made Chicago.
My problem with Cetera is his weak, sentimental love songs in the late '70's. But a guy had to make a living.
Heather Curran Hard to believe he's the same guy singing and playing bass here.
How many times can a guy fall in love?

They are that good wow
I never fully appreciated Chicago before. I was too young to know about Kath and these early years, but pre-80s Chicago is a blast! Love it. Love Terry Kath's vibe, like a big rock n roll hug, and James Pankow's all-out enthusiasm, cheering on band mates. What a great time to be alive and in a band like Chicago!
Unreal how good they are
This was before the choreographed acts, the smoke, stage sets, super lighting etc.
Sadly, they went adult contemporary later on. This is the real Chicago.
When singers really sang and raw talent was what you got, the good and the not so good. This version of Chicago had no problem laying it out.
It's nothing short of a damn shame that Terry Kath gets overlooked in "guitar greats" discussions. And what a soulful voice!

How is Terry Kath not in the top five guitarists of all time? He blows away his contemporaries (Clapton, Page, etc) that music media have proclaimed the best ever.
you dont wanna know
He is one bad white boy
He is in "my" top ten, there is a lot of talent out there in the world.
BECAUSE THEY ARE DEAF DUMB AND BLIND,KATH WAS A TSUNAMI OF INTENSITY

What an unbelievable band at the top of their game! Every single one of them! Danny is just killing it on the drums!
He is a great drummer but the truth is he is the only weak link in this concert. He is dragging pretty bad & is why Kath & Pankow are in his face. He must've taken a quaalude or something before this concert.
@David Marskell Didn't know that.
Yeah! Terry Kath is the underrated guitarist of all-time, but Danny Seraphine is definitely the underrated drummer, especially by his OWN BAND! They kicked him out because (in their words) “he couldn’t figure out where ONE was!”
He was really kicked out because he took an interest in their contracts.
He was on a radio show I was producing, and when the host asked who was responsible for getting rid of him, he said “I’ll just give you the initials: RL.”
I always had a feeling...
There were certainly no slouches in Chicago.
@@lynnturman8157 Not really. This has got to be a bootleg recording (not a bad one), so you're not getting proper desk mix, AND, Danny lost his bass drum part way through the song, but carried on very well regardless. I like it because it made it different.
Terry's energy is what drove this band and he brought out the best in each and everyone one of the players.
