@@RequiemPoete that is true but Sony wanted venom in Spider-Man 3 so if Raimi pitched that idea to Sony they wouldn’t allow it cause they wanted Spider-Mans top 3 big villains to start the trilogy that would lead to more installments and while Sandman is memorable he’s not as popular as those three

@RequiemPoete I had this exact same thought. Venom is a character that deserves a full film as the proper antagonist. I also like the idea of getting a full movie where Peter wears the black suit, without having to get rid of it before the final act. Hell, taking the suit off could’ve BEEN the final act. I can’t help but think of the possibilities there could’ve been had the studio not pushed for Venom so early, or at all. I know Raimi doesn’t like the character, but I think he still could’ve done a magnificent job with him if he had the proper time to do so.

Sandman, physically, looked up to God. He was confused, but he shut up and listened for the answer. He tuned into God... and he was shown the answer!!

He was ready to give up, to let himself fall all to pieces…until he saw her face. He was ready to lose himself, until he saw what he had left to fight for. Thus it is said: when we are falling apart, remembering what we have to fight for can give us the strength to pull ourselves back together and stand once more on our own two feet.

The emotion in the scene, no words were spoken, but you could understand how Flint was feeling this whole scene, what I really liked about this scene is how the music just "spoke" the emotion for him, and how his sadness of seeing the picture of his daughter, remembering his goal, how much he's determined to do whatever he can to get her back to health, this scene is a musical masterpiece in my opinion, I love it.

2:03 This scene fucked me up emotionally as a kid for reasons I don’t know how to explain. This expression, and this specific scene alone deserves an Oscar. The way they animated Sandman’s facial expressions was so hauntingly poignant, gut wrenching yet amazingly executed. He doesn’t say a word but the audience understands he’s just a broken father who genuinely loves his daughter, and not the typical villain. You feel instant sympathy for his character. I saw this scene over ten years ago in the cinema as a kid and ten years later this specific scene still stuck with me.

Originally Sam Raimi didn't want Venom period, not even in Spider-Man 4. The guy used to hate Venom with a passion. Avi Arad talked him into having Venom in this, and it made sense in retrospect, as the symbiote, like in the Spider-Man Animated Series in 1995, made Peter arrogant and angry beyond reason. Part of being humane is overcoming the emotions that poison a person's personality, like the desire for revenge.

The problem with Venom was is that he became such a popular character during that time which explains why he was forced into the movie and Sam Raimi didn’t know anything about him so it’s understandable to see that he didn’t want to include a Villain that he barely knew which is why he never wanted him at all in the first place and Sony had to ruined Raimi’s vision for Spider-Man 3. And by looking at this scene here Raimi was going for Sandman as the main focus, he also wanted to conclude with Harry Osborn’s story with his plan for revenge towards Peter thinking that he killed his father

Yeah Rami wanted Sandman and Harry to be the only 2 big bad’s, but the executives of Sony said “hey Venom’s neat how about we put Venom in this film.”
Now Rami hates Venom as a character and tried to refuse the inclusion but obviously lost. You can see just how little Rami wanted Venom in the movie and hated doing things with him because Eddie Brock isn’t that weight lifter reporter, and all the worst scenes involved either the Symbiote or Venom. There’s a few good scenes but tell me you couldn’t see Peter angry that the police force would hide Ben’s true killer for so long, and him seeing Flint wouldn’t reopen the wound resulting in a similar scene that we got with or without the black suit.

In the comics there's a version of sandman that goes on to raise his daughter but because of his apparent immortality he's forced to watch her die of old age. Sandman himself doesn't die until the end when he gives in and stop being sandman and becomes just. Sand. It reminded me of this scene specifically because it's the exact polar opposite. In this scene he's just woken up in a daze and now has to use all of his concentration and willpower to hold his human physical form. And it's beautifully illustrated here. It isn't until he realizes that not being able to pull it together means he won't be able to even hold his daughter again that he steels his mind and does it. All the while clutching her locket in his hand. A father with dedication.

@@SH-Night It would've been so interesting to see how the movie would be without Venom being forced in. I like to view this movie as the "Forgiveness" arc for Peter and if it wasn't for Venom, it would've really feel more like that

I do not see a villain in this scene, I see a man physically and mentally to keep in touch with reality, a man who means no harm or intent to hurt or kill to the point where he sometimes would have no option.
A Dad who is torn between reality of good and evil. Noticed when he needed uncle bens car he did not use any harmful force or threatening comments. He gently lifted him out of the car saying “I need your car” with no intent of hurting anyone.
    AMAZING MOVIE!❤️🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻❤️

I hate to be "that" guy but I feel like Sandman's creation has to do with the metaphysical. He LIVES because of drive to provide for his daughter's medication. It's seen in how his fingers physically FORM as he reaches for the picture.

@@internetdinosaur8810 Well, being made of sand is impossible in a scientific sense. So yes, it must be his spirit linked to the sand and controlling it.

The way such intense emotion is expressed on a cgi face of SAND. SAND FOR CRYING OUT LOUD. This scene is perfect. The music, the absence of dialogue, the way we see sandman’s burn of sadness and irreparable change. Raimi is a genius.

Raimi may have been forced to change the main villain, but the scenes he still managed to give the intended one are so powerful that I nearly 2 decades later I may barely remember any venom scenes, but I remember every single sandman scene. I guess in that specific sense, Raimi got to keep the focus on the villain he wanted.

The best movie clip I've ever seen. Best CGI/VFX what ever it is.
