First New Years without my dad, and it still hasn’t sunk in yet. Cherish those around you, as you’ll never know when it could be their last. Happy New Years to you, your family, and all those who aren’t lucky enough to be with us today. 👼 🙏🏻
My mother who passed away 16 years ago was my first thought when the clock struck midnight tonight. Not the usual thing that comes to mind but i had a little tear in my eye and some warm wholesome memories. Just how i'd like every New Year to begin from this year forward. How they would want it to be. Happy New Year!
@@cmcc3721wow that comment is exactly how I felt! I’m sorry to hear that. My dad only passed away at the start of the month and it’s as if it’s only dawned on me that I’ll never see him again. I hope it gets easier 💔
my grandma passed in august and her laugh was one of the things i thought of minutes before new years. she made this night a joyous occasion for many. i’m sorry for the loss of your dad, they’re making it into 2023 through our memories of them
I'm seriously considering learning to play the bagpipes just so that I can on special occasions go into the hills and play this song whilst thinking about my ancestral land. A single tear rolling down my chin as I play my heart out. Local children will hear legends of me; their mothers will say that when they can hear the hills singing, it is old TurtleMarcus on the bagpipes, longing for ages past. On the local pubs, men will cheer and drink a pint, when they hear the pipes in the distance. And then they'll tell stories and have a good time. One day, the pipes will become silent. And ol' TurtleMarcus will be gone. Then they'll realise that his tears were of joy, and not of sorrow. And who knows? Keep listening for the pipes. If you're lucky, on a quiet morning, you might just hear ol' TurtleMarcus, or so the legend says. Maybe someone took on his mantle and keep playing. Keep listening, children, and never forget the good times.
Ever seen the episode of the crown? The scene with former king Eduard 8 during the coronation of the queen and him watching it in his mansion in Paris and was mocking it to his friends only to later be seen playing the bagpipes alone and crying.
That is so beautiful.I have great memories of the New Years Eves Party's at home . At midnight Dad lead the way singing Auld Lang Syne . Everybody arm in arm. Dad's parents were Scots, but my Mum was the biggest lover of New Years Eve and her family were Irish. Miss you all, the many Uncle's, Auntie's , friends who are not" here" any more, but you will always be here. I know you are with me , always.
When my Scottish grandfather died two years ago a bagpiper came and played this outside his funeral, and hearing this makes me remember him. God bless everyone reading this and may your year be full of joy.
This song never fails to move me. I used to sing this hymn when I was in high school in London. As I’m listening to this solemn hymn on this Christmas Eve. I’m thinking of my friends I lost when I was in the military, and all the missed opportunities for love due my self absorbed life.

If you love Scotland, let them have their freedom! They are not in the UK out of their own volition, they were forced into it, and still held back against their will, according to the last election and how they voted to remain in the EU
@@jay23cr I one hundred percent agree with you. Scotland should be indepent. It would be sad to lose the historic Great Britain, but Scotland is too culturally different.
I said this to the Irishman who wasn't Irish, you cannot be proud of being Scottish or of being of Scottish descent if you are not a Scottish citizen or permanent resident or of Scottish descent
Every year we go on about our lives on this planet, in a far humdrum part of the universe that's travelling thru space at 67,000 mph (107,826kmh). Fantastic! Every year we become more wise about different things. People come and go. Good Times and bad. We all can have our friends, family, partners, acquaintances, enemies, hopes and downs, our darkness and our light. But if you can just keep a smidgen of hope and hold onto a piece of that good, a person, a place, even an idea, you can make it. You can, you amazing travellers of the cosmos you. May each new year be brighter than the last for the whole lot of you. I hope you all can leave even a smidgen of your dark behind in the last year and that in this year, you can make it a good one. From this Aussie In Seattle, Happy New Year mates! . Much Love.

When I feel hopeless in life on listening to Auld Lang Syne, I feel like the sound of the melody does become a comforting voice from above the heaven and heals my soul. For those of you the upcoming New Year 2025 will be a gold year full of God’s blessings for you.
@@thescrout9831 Well, what my grandpa told me before is that this song was started playing at the graduation ceremony of our former naval academy (that might have dated back to 1880?). That could be one of the roots of why we connect this song with farewell. And another root is apparently the movie, “Waterloo Bridge,” which is a lot of old people’s favorite.
As an someone who was born in England, but has Scottish, Irish, and even German heritage, I can proudly say that this is the song of freedom, and the song that reminds us all to keep moving forward, regardless of what tragedy befalls us Long live Scotland, Long live humanity, and long live Freedom
On listening to this Auld Lang Syne, wonderfully I feel like praying that those of you listening to this song now will meet the upcoming New Year 2025 as a God Year full of God’s blessings for you around the world 🙏

I’m French but I love Scotland 🇫🇷❤️🏴
Agreed
I'm and Englishman born and bred, however after I did my degree at Glasgow University, I had fallen in love with Scotland. I found a beautiful place in Clackmannanshire called Alva. I'm now settled in Scotland with a wife and 2 kids. I bloody love Scotland. Long stand Great Britain!
I read this with a brittish accent
Gamin' 2.0 there isn’t just one British accent mate
If you love Scotland, let them have their freedom! They are not in the UK out of their own volition, they were forced into it, and still held back against their will, according to the last election and how they voted to remain in the EU
@@jay23cr I one hundred percent agree with you. Scotland should be indepent. It would be sad to lose the historic Great Britain, but Scotland is too culturally different.

Nice of you!

Happy New Year from AZ!
It doesn't matter where you are from, this is beautiful.
Still love this song so much, even tho I'm not Scottish I feel proud
I said this to the Irishman who wasn't Irish, you cannot be proud of being Scottish or of being of Scottish descent if you are not a Scottish citizen or permanent resident or of Scottish descent
Gene Thompson tf you mean my whole pops side is Scottish and we’re all proud to be Scots
@@London_J There's no such thing as a "Scottish" citizenship. All people in the UK have a British citizenship, officially of course
Happy new year. Hopefully 2022 is better than the last one.
Hello fellow railfan!
So far isn’t aging well
Statements like these never age well, but hey it's not bad to hope.
Im from the future, it’s worse
Lmao
And tonight, the whole world sings a Scottish song! 🏴🇺🇲
Damn.. Why time passes so fast...It's already December....GOD DAMN IT!
From this Aussie In Seattle, Happy New Year mates! . Much Love.
Watch out for 'Dark Energy' - whatever it is, it'll be the end of us all.
From France, I wish you all who read this a prosperous and healthy happy year. Let's hope 2023 will be better!

This song is like a gift from ancestors, handed down thru the centuries.
When I feel hopeless in life on listening to Auld Lang Syne, I feel like the sound of the melody does become a comforting voice from above the heaven and heals my soul. For those of you the upcoming New Year 2025 will be a gold year full of God’s blessings for you.
To my late Beautiful Mum.. years have passed and this song brings me home to you.. your loving son from New Zealand 💚💚
The ultimate song that mixes a heart wrenching sense of goodbye to the concluding year with the hope for a new and better one!

From Japan, this song is what many stores use when they announce the closing time.
Thank you Scotland for our favorite music 🏴
damn, that is really cool! i heard about how Japan uses American war songs in stores, never knew they used a song from my home country :D
Here we go into the roaring 20’s again!
Prohibition intensifies
Yeah not so roaring unfortunately
From Arkansas, may 2023, or whatever year that your seeing this on, be a happy one
Merry Christmas from Berlin to Scotland
As an someone who was born in England, but has Scottish, Irish, and even German heritage, I can proudly say that this is the song of freedom, and the song that reminds us all to keep moving forward, regardless of what tragedy befalls us
Long live Scotland, Long live humanity, and long live Freedom
Merry New Year from The Southside of Chicago
On listening to this Auld Lang Syne, wonderfully I feel like praying that those of you listening to this song now will meet the upcoming New Year 2025 as a God Year full of God’s blessings for you around the world 🙏
Amen. May we the righteous reclaim the world stolen from us. The party starts Jan. 20
As we sit this Christmas day, thinking on old times with family long gone. We raise our cups in remembrance of days gone by.
