Here you have a Dutch conductor, with a multinational orchestra and a Scottish pipe band playing a piece of music written by two Germans in order to evoke Scotland for a German Highland games and then adopted by Scotland as one of her own anthems. This is what you create when we come together
Well said John Paul! Cheers
Yup, just brilliant, isn't it.
It sure is cooperation & mutual respect very European. As a proud Scottish person this music is beautiful I’m greeting ( crying ) peace & love to the world fae Bonnie Scotland. 💙🏴💙.
John Paul Lusk. You perceptive person, im Black Watch 42nd (RHR) You made me cry.
"Flower of Scotland" is our anthem.
Cried like a baby at the funeral of 6 of my fallen comrades in Falklands war. This was played and made me feel proud to be a Scotsman. We were in our full Highland dress at the war cemetery in the Falklands. Sent a shiver down my spine
I missed the Falklands. I left the Royal Marines in 1980 after serving 10yrs between 42 and 45 Cmdo.
I was gutted I missed it BUT, I shed a few tears when watching the fleet leave for the South Atlantic and I cried buckets when
I heard that 4 of my oppo's lost their lives, even as I write this I am shedding tears.
my dad was a chef at the depot Pirbright left in 77 but still knew men who served and fought in the Falklands

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:

My best friend & brother died a few weeks ago & hearing the bag pipes the emotions connect me to the unforgettable past & the blessed hope of knowing that he is in heaven with our Lord.
This makes me feel patriotic for a country I’ve never been part of
Scotland does that to you.
I can tell you being from said country I'm sitting here with tears streaming down my face. The pipes, the band, it just does something to you.
The pipes are just a part of being scottish , a absoloutely love it , From Glasgow Here , & wow the pipes just make me stream tears , honestly no other feeling like it in the world . 🏴🏴🏴🏴💙💙💙💙
I lived in South Africa for 40 years, and I love the national anthem!
Come abd visit, you'll like it
I don’t remember how many times I’ve watched this,as a Scotsman it still knocks the stuffing out of me,such a powerful-beautiful song.

Do you know I am English, but I just love the bagpipes, and this is amazing, I love it so much, I heard it many years ago but it still love this so much..
Think this is the most beautiful thing I have heard

He may have the luck to live on in four beloved children. May he rest in peace ... all the best for you and your kids from germany. At the age of 49 with children aged 24 and 22 I think I know how you feel ... stay strong. There's always a future until the last day.
He's waiting for you in the next room. fellow scot i assume, my heart goes out to you all.

Love to you from my family
My mom, died of Cancer today. She was 58. I have this and a few other songs I’ve been playing on repeat but this one sort of sets the tone for the mood today. I as a Police Officer hear the pipes and drums at funerals gets me sappy but this brings me a sense my momma is at peace, resting eternally. For that I am also at peace. Smiling while typing this with lots of tears knowing my mom would also very much approve of this. Thank you for this beautiful song.
My condolences, I believe she's in peace now and is still there to listen to this song together with you
My condolences to you and your family 🕯🥀
My condolences. May she RIP🙏

Our memories are the CUSHIONS OF LIFE. GOD BLESS...
Playing this at my mums funeral this Saturday. Then taking her ashes home to Scotland. RIP mommy, you will always be a beautiful lass.
Really sorry to hear of your loss. Sure your mum will be glad to be home..... x
May the pipes always sound for her
Take care

I am sorry for your Lost 😔. May she rest in peace.
Proud to be Scottish. Still brings a tear to my eyes. Beautiful
I’m a South African living in Australia and I’ve never been to Scotland but the pipes always bring a lump to my throat and a tear to my eye. The emotion in that sound is just too much for a human heart 🥹

Я живу не в Шотландии, но как и вы, восхищаюсь этой музыкой! Настоящий талант не имеет национальности, это мировое достояние😊
As well as being played at funerals, my daughter requested this masterpiece for walking down the aisle, it was awesome. The lady on the bagpipes deserves a lot of credit after recovering from cancer.
Very stiring music love it
I won't be going to My funeral if they don't play this

When was Monae diagnosed with cancer?
This melody was composed by German musicians Ulrich Roever and Michael Korb in 1982 for a Highland games held in Germany..,
This song will forever bring a tear to the eye of any person who calls Scotland home. Albu Gu Bràth.
and to some of us who's ancestry is Scottish
And even to those that are not scottish

It really should be Scotland's national anthem. Beautifully played.
Far bettr than that dirge "Flower of Scotland"

I understand the sentiment but it's unlikely , it not really being a Scottish song.
I agree many times better

Aye..
If you think this is better than the Royal Dragoon Guards version you're off your head. That woman can't play the bagpies propperly.

I am a French woman born in the southwest of France. So, I am culturally very far from Scotland. Very very far... But God, this music is moving. My little French heart just melted and I must have wiped away tears of emotion.

You right,
Totally gives me shivers every time I hear this tune. Glad I'm Scottish
The woman with the bagpipes gives the music so much power, passion and emotions this piece and even know I get goosebumps. She may not be Scottish but she had a mountain to climb and she overcame it and came back Stronger than ever.
As a Scot myself, I LOVE this piece and she does this justice!
On ye go hen!
The woman playing the bagpipes is Andre Rieu’s wife.
@@RandGerald that’s not true, that’s Manoe Konings. He’s married to Marjorie Rieu unless this is new information I have not seen. However Manoe is an incredible lady and always gives it her all. Cannot wait to see them play again.

She is the very best
@@RandGerald That will be news to his wife then. Sorry but her name is Manoe Konings. She also plays the clarinet, saxophone and guitar. She also sings, she is of the Andre Sisters. She dances, and when not on tour rides around on her motor bike. She is the one who makes sure everyone is on the bus when they go on tour.
This is something special, that crowd doesn't know how lucky they are!
Had this played at a homecoming ceremony having returned form Afghanistan back in 2012. Following the church service we then marched down the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, which was packed; tourists, locals, I looked to my right and saw the All Blacks squad (they were there to play Scotland that weekend) the whole mile was rammed... just incredible. This is the most exceptional rendition of Highland Cathedral that I have ever heard. Ever.
Princess Marina College pipes and drums were the best I ever heard long gone due to government cuts in the armed forces budget but that is going back to 1988 started of lone piper then lone drummer then built up from there.
Every time I hear this, tears flow. Brave women in he fight with cancer.

Shall we do the same again
Fight and die for freedom still

Being a Macrae I was delighted and more than extremely moved when I was blessed seeing Andre perform this, I did not expect to see Eilean Donan Castle (the seat of the Clan Macrae) as his backdrop.
