    Looks more like a WB caartoon style goldfish to me and it's awesome!

      Yeah, I think how skinny the ship is lends itself to looking like a fish.

    Woah that YUMMY guy must be a really good pilot with a one of a kind ship since he has those cool Imperial Orang (tm) plates! I wish I could fly my identical one of a kind ship the same way he cab. I bet he's also like super cool and stuff.

      @XenoCow  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      ... Are you YUMMY? ha ha. He clearly did do very well. I don't think I could run the course as fast as he did even if I had a better ship.

    I'm still confused on why this game died. I got it and played for a day then said "Ok time to wait for updates to fix all these bugs" and it got the last update maybe a week later.

    • @XenoCow
      @XenoCow  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There were two large patches after launch, the last big one coinciding with the announcement of the development pause. Since there have been a few bug fixes here and there and there is going to be an announcement at the end of the month about the future of the game and how they are going to restart development.
      I think there were a few reasons it flopped. The devs were over-optimistic on how quickly they could get from EA to a 1.0 version so did not gather the funding for the actual amount of time required, there was a major patch on launch day which was untested by the closed alpha players, many players were impatient and ignored the "Starbase launches in a clear alpha state" disclaimer, and the developers did a poor job of communicating the actual state of development and funding. There are likely more.
      The last video I did was about the current state of development. Long story short they know they screwed up, have a handful of people now working full time on the game again, and there is going to be an announcement at the end of the month with a rough roadmap.

      @@XenoCow Yeah I knew I was buying into an alpha game so I was fine paying for it to support the development. I thought they pulled a Card Life on me lol. Card Life was such a scam and it pissed me off. if they do keep updating this I'll be pretty happy.

    • @XenoCow
      @XenoCow  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DeadHawk23 I'd forgotten about card life. I was keeping an eye on that one but then lost interest after watching actual gameplay.
      If my optimism for their return to development turns out to be misplaced, then I will admit defeat, but it does seem like there is movement, just slow movement.

    WOW that's one hell of a piloting skills! What about the devs? Do they have a plan to integrate the mouse ship control without yoylol or your progam will be like ASAM before the map kisked in?

    • @XenoCow
      @XenoCow  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you. I surprised myself too since I had not ever flown that ship aggressively or that course before. As for mouse control, I think they are planning on getting it (and HOTAS) support working. I still am unsure whether I will publish the mouse program or not. I do have plans to improve it so that the deadzone problem disappears. I just have to find the time to do that.

      There were probably ~30 people at this event last week and I ran into 3 people randomly while trying to tow my ship back, 1 nice, 2 not so nice. Also, on the 30th of this month there is going to be an announcement about the future update plans and overall plans for the game. Soon after that there should be an update to the test universe with some of the new features.

      To get back to the launch numbers of ~10,000? It is very likely that will not happen again, correct. But so long as the game can become at least sustainable for the number of people working on it and provides enjoyment to a few, maybe 500-1,000 players, that is within reach if the devs play their cards right.

    • @vladcrow4225
      @vladcrow4225 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@XenoCow I see, But if even a freaks like Okim had left playerbase - I'm sure it's doomed. It's not 90s or early 00s with Ultima, AO, EVE and other "living MMOs" taking off.
      But anyway, good luck luring some more hype kids with parent's cards.

    • @XenoCow
      @XenoCow  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't think it will ever "take off" I think it is more likely to remain a niche game at an intersection of already niche genres. I think that's OK, although I too would like it to take off. I'd be happy if it just gets to a point where both the gameplay and development can be sustainable enough that there are patches sometimes and new players joining aren't left feeling like they bought a prototype.
      As for luring kids. From what I can see of my demographics, literally only 0.5% of my audience is under 18 (There are likely more than that because of some who say they are older, but still). Most (~40%) are 25-30 year olds. I am not responsible for what a bunch of grown men do with their parent's money, nor with theirs. And as far as hype, I think I have only been showing things you can currently do in-game. I don't really like to make videos talking about what-ifs. That section in my "ded game" video was just a footnote.
      Lastly, thank you for chatting, even if we disagree about what the future of the game or even what the game is in its current state. And thank you for dealing with my old man style of writing. :)

      Just paused so they could stop burning money and figure out a path forwards. They are going to make an announcement at the end of the month about what they have been up to the past ~6 months while a handful of people have been working and what is coming next for the game.
      The last video I made details the current state of the game and what has been said by the devs since the development pause if you're interested.

    That repair looks painful as f.. Isn't there like a blueprint system in this game that would make this easer than tracing pipes inside a ship? Also, is there a PVE only server for this game? I despise PVP.

    • @XenoCow
      @XenoCow  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There is a blueprint system, but that only is helpful if you have all the parts. You saw a little bit of the blue print in action when I was rebuilding the beams. I only had that ship and a little bit of the beam and plate material, and my tools, so my repairs had to be different than the blueprint. Personally, I get some satisfaction in knowing my ship well enough to mess around with the wiring and get it back up and running after a crash.
      Currently, the best way for repair is to fly into the hanger halls at stations or the ship design hall on the starting stations and hit the "repair" button which costs the materials, some credits, and a minute or two to reset the ship back to a saved blueprint.
      As for a PvE server, there is not. However, the game universe is so huge that if you were to fly for a couple hours in some direction you could get far enough away from anyone that the chances of running into someone are virtually zero. Also, around the starting stations and into the first part of the planet's belt, there is a "Safe Zone" that prevents any kind of stealing of ships or damage to players or ships.

    • @SolearGnG
      @SolearGnG 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@XenoCow Thanks, that's good info. I might pick up the game then when it'll be on sale. Reading stream reviews and that the devs moved on won't fill me with confidence but the game looks good enough to try when it's on cheap.

    • @XenoCow
      @XenoCow  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's plenty fair. If it's on a good sale, then the current content is worth it so long as the servers stay up. Fortunately the server costs are very low for them since most of the game is peer-to-peer.

  • @vladcrow4225
    @vladcrow4225 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Lol, this scam is still out there? I thought they shut down already.

    • @XenoCow
      @XenoCow  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They did furlough many of their employees for some time, some still, because they overestimated how much they could get done with the money they had. However, since the server costs are low and there remains just enough player interest (and the company's CEO's interest), they have regrouped and have built back up a small team of programmers to resume development now that they released a game from their more successful series. At the end of the month we expect an announcement of the plans including a rough roadmap.
