He is absolutely something special a phenomenal artist. Music is one of my favorite things. Depends on my mood depends on what I’m doing depends on what kind of jam I listen to. But it is universal rock on
5 years to my retirement, looking forward to jamming Tyler, Cody, Sturgill, Jamey, Waylon, Johnny, Whitey, Ward Davis, Paul Cauthen from daybreak to night smoking and relaxing all day long!
His writing reminds of John prine but with a more aggressive country sound his songs are stories that keep you listening Tyler definitely has the holler sound
Being from eastern Kentucky all of Tyler's songs speak to me. This song always reminds me of a signal maintainer for L&N/CSX RR that I worked with. Many times i heard him say "the day I retire I'm going to smoke a joint the size of an Ibold cigar". And I bet he did!
Thank you Tyler Childers! I just got to say this ,after listening to all your music, you are one of if not the best song writer/Singer/Storyteller in the business currently!!!
He IS A STAR! He's not a sell out. Love you Tyler and all of us his fans need to introduce him to our fellow citizens of USA!🇺🇸🙏❤, Let's not forget not just here in the mountains...Worldwide!
comment from 2 yes ago is super cool... I've seen him 3 times past 2 yes for a decent ticket price. ol feller just sold out rupp arena with sturgill simpson here in our home state of KY. I'd say he's made it.
I love this guy. Saw him for $17 bucks a year ago in Asheville, NC. Cheapest tickets I can find now are $100+. Congrats on your success, but damn man, it will break a budget.
Like a freight train hauling sorrow, and moving ever onward. Through the tunnel of forever toward the never ending light. Are you kidding me!!!!! F@#% Walt Whitman haha. Unreal!!!
Agreed! I'd sworn off modern country with that Luke Aldean dude. I was raised on the outlaws, men with a story to tell and nothing to prove. That idea has been lost for long time now. Tyler Childers was my first real glimpse of that raw, organic, humble talent that this genre so desperately needs. Cheers!
American songwriting has been restored. Thanks Tyler. Now come down from the tree and bring tue binoculars. Need ya to quit writing songs about my life, brings a tear to my eye as i smile lol
Lyrics He drinks orange juice and vodka in the basement while she's talking To someone long distance for hours and hours on end And as he's slowly sippin' he thinks about his children And the heart attacks that youngest daughter's always giving him He ain't smoked no marijuana since he got on with the railroad And he's been on with the railroad for a long and lonesome while But the day that he retires he will smoke himself to China He will leave behind his worries as he's racing through the sky She sells Avon to her buddies and saves a little money For all the makeup she's been using to hide away the years And she sits and watches TV Usually every evening If there ain't some kind of ball game her daughter has to cheer She sneaks menthols every morning while her family's still snoring As she burns the eggos she looks back at her life That heart she broke in highschool he is singing on the Opry She wonders what the hell that she was thinking at the time Oh the days are dark down in the holler Waiting for the sun to shine On the back you've been breaking Trying to earn peace of mind Their youngest daughter Stella, she's been running with this fella That he can not stand the thought of, that he surely does despise He's told her he best never see the two of them together But it's hard to keep an eye on her when you're working all the time There are things he needs to tend to And the bills the bank keeps sending Lord, the zeros on the end keep pushing further to the right Like a freight train hauling sorrow And moving ever onward Through the tunnel of forever towards the never ending light Oh the days are dark down in the holler Waiting for the sun to shine On the back you've been breaking Trying to earn peace of mind Trying to earn peace of mind

Facemelter (that’s good). I wasn’t sure Kentucky was really the South. I’ve never been there. Now I’m sure it is. This performance Is a PhD thesis in southern/Appalachian allegorical story telling. Oh and he passes, hell they name the department after him. I just love this damn performance so much. (Side-note) But listening to studio version makes me so sad. Whoever’s in charge of recording him should get a new job. They cooked a tasty ribeye well done and ruined it. Luckily some saint has recorded a fair amount of His live Stuff on you tube and you can feel this ray of country music sunshine.
thanks for sharing!!! Tyler is such a great writer and artist. he's got so many songs that are great he dosent play anymore. like to have an album with every song he's ever written and played. not a bad one in the bunch
@@mikecountryman2218 I respectfully suggest that you done lost your mind. Album version is such a let down. But you like Tyler Childers so you can't be all bad.

Tyler to brain. " I need to describe sadness and struggle." Tyler's brain: Like a freight trian hawling sorrow, and moving ever onward, through the tunnel of forever toward a Neverending light. Tyler: "That should do."
You're Alive music is always and was so great hope the mainstream media doesn't change who made you and who you have become so most of your original songs are so great and truly made you who you are and I hope that you see that and he can continue Play the song that you originally played at the level that you played them for I can see that you are changing and conforming to the mainstream media ways
I love Tyler dude is just brilliant . But as I've seen there's few people who don't like the album version of this song ...... I agree Tyler come on man . Just need you a guitar an your voice . 👌 got tickets for January 2020 please don't play this amazing song that way al be devastated haha . Peace !! ✌
Todd 1 yeah having sturgill play back up vocals and a guitar riff here and there is really what I was talking about...I mean he really comes across on the album 🙄
He is a pure Appalachian poet , where does he come up with these amazing lyrics !!!!!!
It's a eastern KY thing
Appalachian Cobain...
Livin in the country 😂

GOD GIVEN FOR SURE
Badass I never in my life have liked country music but Tyler and these Kentucky guys have me searching for jams
there's so many out there in the tube my brother!
One of the best songs he’s ever made in my opinion
5 years to my retirement, looking forward to jamming Tyler, Cody, Sturgill, Jamey, Waylon, Johnny, Whitey, Ward Davis, Paul Cauthen from daybreak to night smoking and relaxing all day long!

Congratulations, you’d have earned it Bobbie!

The album version is absolutely perfect for the album. This version is absolutely perfect for everything else.
underappreciated comment in my opinion good sir
Yes sir
Tyler: This may not goe so well
Performance: Flawless perfection
This guy is music. No words can do him justice. Best ever!!!
You truly get Tyler's music if you were raised where he was touches your soul !!!
One of my favorites from Tyler. "That. HEART SHE BROKE IN HIGHSCHOOL HE SINGING ON THE OPRY"
I love how this song evolved into what it is now. Really shows you a piece of his writing process
His writing reminds of John prine but with a more aggressive country sound his songs are stories that keep you listening Tyler definitely has the holler sound
John prime for sure, but with a Johnny Cash Vibe too! I think anyway...
And he just covered a John Prine song!
After I heard the album version I would have bet money this was a John Prine cover. I would have definitely lost money on that one.
Which one.???@@WerazotheLankster
Tyler Childers you are badass..... I drink every Sunday night to your music. Thanks Preacher
A little Sunday night healin’
Just sundays? Lol
Yea I gotta cut back to only sundays... I'll start next week
I can’t explain why this itches the spot in my brain that nothing else can but it does. My absolute favorite.

I think Tyler Childers is the greatest music makers that there has ever been
Way better than the album version!
I actually like the album version more.
These versions are always better IMO - All Yourn is a prime example...
Definitely better than the album version!
I agree 100% the tempo is much better...a lot more feel. The album version doesn't do it justice.
I actually feel like the album version fits the subject matter better. It's more somber.
I would sure love to meet him one day.
My favorite singer now in country.
Hope he never changes his style.
So many do for Nashville...
Thank you Tyler Childers!

Lyrics
He drinks orange juice and vodka in the basement while she's talking
To someone long distance for hours and hours on end
And as he's slowly sippin' he thinks about his children
And the heart attacks that youngest daughter's always giving him
He ain't smoked no marijuana since he got on with the railroad
And he's been on with the railroad for a long and lonesome while
But the day that he retires he will smoke himself to China
He will leave behind his worries as he's racing through the sky
She sells Avon to her buddies and saves a little money
For all the makeup she's been using to hide away the years
And she sits and watches TV
Usually every evening
If there ain't some kind of ball game her daughter has to cheer
She sneaks menthols every morning while her family's still snoring
As she burns the eggos she looks back at her life
That heart she broke in highschool he is singing on the Opry
She wonders what the hell that she was thinking at the time
Oh the days are dark down in the holler
Waiting for the sun to shine
On the back you've been breaking
Trying to earn peace of mind
Their youngest daughter Stella, she's been running with this fella
That he can not stand the thought of, that he surely does despise
He's told her he best never see the two of them together
But it's hard to keep an eye on her when you're working all the time
There are things he needs to tend to
And the bills the bank keeps sending
Lord, the zeros on the end keep pushing further to the right
Like a freight train hauling sorrow
And moving ever onward
Through the tunnel of forever towards the never ending light
Oh the days are dark down in the holler
Waiting for the sun to shine
On the back you've been breaking
Trying to earn peace of mind
Trying to earn peace of mind
