Wow, all we ever see here in my local groc stores are the typical Phals, guess I need to check out some actual floral shops, though I know that'll be costly. Right now, as I just started my orchid collection, I mainly just save those Phals in the discount aisle. I did not even know some have fragrance. How wonderful!

You’re adorable Danny 😊 I always thought the way you said citrus was a European thing. Made me smile. For favorite orchids, I would have to say Dendrobium atroviolaceum for its awesome flowers and vanilla cookie fragrance. And also Dendrobium spectabile and Phalaenopsis philippinensis. Agree with you for bellina and the Sharry Baby too, can’t beat amazing fragrance! It’s so hard to narrow it down to just 10 😜

Oh Danny, I also love fragrant orchids. I’ve never been attracted to white ones, but if the fragrances are as amazing as you say, I might have to revisit them. One of the highly fragrant Dendrobiums that didn’t make your list (I know, only 10😉) is the anosmum. Where I live, it’s called Honohono, and it’s more common than the Sherry Baby Oncidium. You have mentioned it before, but it didn’t make your forever list. After watching your video, my wishlist is longer. Thank you for the great introductions to your faves!

My favorites are Miltassia Shelob (I love brassias and their hybrids in general, and I'm a Tolkien nerd, so it ticks multiple boxes for me), Encyclia Cordigera (beautiful and smells delightful), and Encyclia Tampensis (so cute and little, yet grows so easy, it just brings me joy). I'm also always going to have a soft spot for the bamboo orchids, as they were my very first orchid ever back when I was just a kid.
I did just order a Millennium Magic though, which I'm super excited about, and the Nun's Hood orchid has been on my wishlist for ages and ages.

My most loved orchid is no id phalenopsis, which has slightly rosy smell and pale pink dotted large blooms. It also has slightly striped leaves. It looks like it has a lot of Schilleriana in it.
I bought it one day when I was so low and it makes me happy ever since.
Sadly my kitten likes to play with its blooms too.

This year I have re-bought 2 Plants for the first time: Coelogyne nitida & Phalaenopsis modesta. Modesta died, Nitida is not doing well (I tried to put it in LECA... A cold, moist grower... Not a good idea...). Both have a similar fragrance and, it is the fragrance. One of the BEST FRAGANCES I HAVE EXPERIENCE SO FAR! Fresh, sweet, somehow like wild strawberries, and jasmine, and more... I would always rebuy an Oncidium sotoanum. My Twinkle stinks to me of egg white, but the Sotoanum... So complex. And to my nose a real dark chocolate fragrance. Sharry Baby is to my nose really only sweet vanilla. Same strenght, both. Oh, and Masdevallia glandulosa; if I will lose mine, I will rebuy it. Again: Fragrance and glands! Dendrobium unicum nice fragrance. Peach, Orange. Dendrochilum magnum: Quite unique fragrance, could imagine some people would not like it. Like old furniture. Woody, citrusy. And: A Miltoniopsis always has a place. Oh, and: Dendrobium Lutin Blanc: If you want something constantly in bloom. One flower lasts up to 90 days, and it is keeping producing new spikes since february; always in bloom. Light hand creamy fragrance. And Bulbophyllum Elizabeth Ann 'Buckleberry'; interesting fishy (in a good way!) fragrance, beautiful spikes. The fragrance reminds me of the baltic sea. I could go on. But this should be enough. Greetings. ;)

I have fallen in love with cymbidums. They're easy to grow, hugely rewarding plant and flowers. I have one just coming into bloom - the 'Princess Charlotte' and the blooms are a gorgeous wine red with a spotted cream and red lip that's just to die for. Easy to re-bloom if kept in my cold conservatory all year round. Also bonus, it has a lovely subtle fragrance... You have to put your nose right in the flower to pick it up but it's lovely. ❤️

Oh I can relate so much to this video haha :) I am an absolute fragrance freak when it comes to orchids and other plants in general.
I kept thinking "Oh Danny I hope your Neos bloom this year I am sure you'll include them in the list too" I fell in love with them as soon as mine bloomed last spring for me. :)
And I absolutely love the Sharry baby too, keep looking and buying them but I can't seem to find that chocolaty variety I have the sweet fragrance one.
Also would love to stumble upon a Princess Jackie one day too, so intrigued to smell it :) could it be a Catt. intermedia var. alba ??

Good video! I have thought about this topic a great deal as I age. What would happen to my collection if I had to move to smaller quarters? Like your selections. Your comments about the Nobile are most helpful to me. I live in s. FL USA and grow my Nobiles outside attached to palm trees. I don't give them a rest period, but try and watch for their signals for watering so they don't dry out. I, too, have a nice Millenium Magic. It flowered twice this year. Went into dormancy early and has just sprouted its new growth. Just LOVE the coloration of the Frances Fox. I'll have to watch for one for sale. So happy with your Vanda selection. Beautiful flowers!

The others haven't bloomed out yet. Den. Enobi Purple Spash. It's just a cute and rewarding little guy to grow. I have a restrepia that is super super adorable and so far easy to care for. On a side note, I know you use bark as part of media in combination with spaghnum moss. I remember the one you use Is for reptile bedding you had mentioned. Is it fir bark? Does it have a smell or odor to it? I found some at a pet shop, repti bark and is 100% pure fir bark very clean but I detect a smell or bark odor to it. Is that normal? It's a bit strong for me. Do you detect that too?

MissOrchidGirl Pineapple? Did your autocorrect engage? She asked about pine cones-the hard, seed-delivering byproducts of pine trees that make you cuss if you step on them barefoot. 🤣🤣🤣

Trololol either I read that wrong, either the comment was edited afterwards.. but no one else told me I had it wrong 😂 ok pine cones.. not sure how fast they break down, they are better than pineapples that's for sure, but I don't see the need for them.. unless you really like pine cones 😋

Only because you brought it up-yes it’s SIT-truss not Sigh-truss. For a second language, you English is very good. One habit I noticed, however, is you say “how it looks like.” If English isn’t you first language this is a little hard to explain. We say “how it looks” or “what it looks like” but not “how it looks like.” How usually describes a condition or process. What is more specific information. So, if you want to talk about the condition of the plant(s), use How with no preposition at the end of the sentence. If you want to describe a specific characteristic(s) or compare you use What or Which ( when comparing) and you do use Like as a preposition at the end on the sentence (which is a WHOLE OTHER debate among English Grammar snobs🤣) Regardless, it would be considered native, common usage to say “What it looks like,” or something like “. . . which this/these remind me of.” It’s one of those things that are hard to explain that native speakers just intuitively understand and do without thinking. Every language has little idiosyncrasies. Kinda like we typically would say “There you have it, instead of “Here you have it.” There are a lot of articles on this “rules-you-know-that you-don’t-know-you-know.” I’ll add a link as an example. And as always I offer this as kind advice not as finger-waving bashing.

You have named the first orchid. Will you ever try to grow it from seed of the original or and sell them?

Dani, I was trying so carefully to prop up my orchid stem and I broke it off. I’m so sad. Will it be able to grow back? I feel so bad. I’ve been following you for sometime now and my orchids all have nice spikes getting ready to bloom and I was trying to prop it up and it broke. Let me know what I can do if you have time. Thank you.

Hi, if it's a Phalaenopsis it will probably make a secondary spike, a branch practically, from one of the nodes if there are any available. If it's not a Phal, it really depends, but it could make a brand new spike from a different location. Hope this helps! 🧡

I thought your pronunciation on citrus was just an "across the pond" thing. Is it not? I didn't mind. How do you say aluminum?!

@@MissOrchidGirl I just realized it's not just the pronunciation we only use one letter "i," before the "n" and not after. That will make it sound different! I like when bits of your accent poke through. Romanian episode with subtitles!?!?
