I am 47 years old. My first Mego was Batman. It was the molded cowl head on the blister card from either 1976 or 1977. I didn't learn of the removable cowl version until I was older. My introduction to Batman was in 1977 on Saturday mornings on a cartoon called the New Adventures of Batman by Filmation and the Super Friends by Hanna Barbera. I always wanted my Batman figures to have blue shorts instead of black ones, I have made that happen with the help of Dr. Mego's repros. Great video. Very nice presentation! As a 70s kid I had some but not all of these variations; for example I had the Removable Mask Robin in '74, but I never owned a Removable Cowl Batman until I started collecting as an adult. It's nice just to spend time with all these guys, even after all these years and having owned dozens of them in my day!

I have a bit of a Mego Batman story for you.Growing up, a neighborhood friend had the 12 inch magnet palm and sole Batman figure.Countless time was spent putting it in various hanging around situations.He wound up selling it at a garage sale and I had no clue until it was gone.Jump ahead 13 years ago when I first got hip to ebay.I found one complete with just a bit fraying on the cape.I bought it for just under $70.It is the only childhood figure I own today.Mego is awesome and runs neck and neck for me with the Super Powers line as my favorite toy lines of all time.
The price was right for you and I like the story! MEGO is a huge part of so many peoples history and the history if toys!!!!!

The three things that I remember the most about these toys...
1. How easily the legs would come apart if a 5 year old had a few seconds to hold the legs and just SHAKE.
2. Gnawing on the plastic heads was oddly satisfying.
3. The ultimate disappointment when some gives you a MEGO toy, and it turns out to be JohnBoy Walton.

All of the Mego 'Action Jackson' figures i have use the type 0 body w/ plastic riviets ( the first 8" megos ) . I think he lasted from 1970-74 ? . The fisherman outfits boots were very small ( like the cowboy boots were on that outfit ) they were light brown. Cool video, man.
Batman is my number one all time favorite Super Hero. So it's no surprise that Batman was my first Mego. It was early 1977 when I got him. I was 5 years old and my first Mego Batman figure was the molded cowl head and he was on a 1976 blister card. While the Mego Batman has always been a beautiful figure, I was never fully satisfied with him for 2 reasons.
1: I hated that Mego Batman has pupils painted in the eye section. But in the comics and cartoons, the white areas were blank and you couldn't see his eyes. Today, I would paint white over the pupils.
2: I preferred my Mego Batman have blue trunks instead of black ones. I know that's how he looked in the comics, but the reason I prefer blue trunks on a blue and grey costumed Batman is because of my love for both the Filmation Batman cartoons and the SuperFriends by Hanna Barbera. Both versions of Batman had blue trunks. Today, whenever I get a Batman figure by Mego or Figures Toy Company, I will have blue trunks on all my Mego and FTC Batman figures.

My first Mego's were Batman and Robin, (along with the Bat Lab), on my eighth birthday. I was ecstatic! I know you have a Bat Lab Count, would love to see a TROI episode on it someday! Great job with this episode!

I just got a 50th anniversary reproduction of this batman ur showing to display I wonder if I should take his cowl off so his nose doesn't discolor any couldn't imagine owning a original in the box like urs super cool

Huh, that is interesting. The MEGO Batman did not come with anything. I wonder if someone slipped the rope into the packaging? Are you sure it was a MEGo Batman?

I see you've done your homework. As far as I can see, the only thing I can see wrong would be the body. To the best of my knowledge, only Action Jackson came with a type 1 with plastic rivets. I've never heard them called type O (oh) bodies, though I have heard some people call them type 0 (zero) bodies. With Mego though anything is possible and I suppose they could have threw a few of the very first WGSH figures on them when they first started the line. Good video. 👍
Thanks a lot. I cannot remember where I read that when the solid boxed figures first came out, MEGO had them on the type-0 bodies. I need to go and check on that again. I had always thought that they came on a type-1. FYI, the solid box in the video is repro. I do not claim it to be original at all. It is pretty obvious with good condition the box is in. I just used to box as reference.
@@toy_room_of_insanity I have my loose ones in repro boxes too. When I was a kid, I actually got 3 of the original 4 solid boxes and they all had the metal rivets. Never could find a RM Robin. I think the first Robin I got was a type 2 on a card. I have one in my collection now, mask is of course repro.
Thanks for sharing that with me. I am looking right now to see where in the heck I read that about the type-0 body. I will find it. I don't see that information on the MEGO Museum. So now I am really stumped for as to where I read that!

I have never understood being hung up on the packaging . I get that the packaging differentiates toys otherwise exactly alike but would never pay more for that reason . I guess thats why I can be satisfied with a faithful reproduction like my GI Joe .
It was Mego for sure I guess I must be wrong if none came with the grappling hook. I cant remember how it attached to him so I guess not. I really enjoy your D&D videos watch them all the time best toy line of all Im hunting for a North Lord. I like the music too.

Count Stankus Are you collecting the Superfriends? Im excited to see the Superfriends come up in Mego style. Im still waiting for the upcoming KISS Dynasty figures like everyone else. The Monkees look so impressive as well and incredibly fun. I just finished and posted my custom re Mego Lynda Carter Wonder Woman figure on the finished customs portion of the incredible Mego Museum. I hope FTC will one day recreate the 8in boxes since they look so sharp and are easier to store.

That box is def not original Mego...Captain America would be among the corner panel heads and Joker and Riddler were NEVER on the side of any 8 inch Batman boxes....not sure if anyone posted this but there you go.
Yes you are 100%! correct! I didn't think to call that out in the video. Sorry I was not trying to pass it off as an original box. I don't think there's anyone out there right now with a real box in that great of shape. Besides that was there anything you could make a positive comment about? Obviously you love MEGO.
Was that used in the Robot Chicken Show?
MEGO was used in Robot Chicken. They probably used the Batman outfit but I believe they never used the head sculpt. They had an original sculpt made

The advise I'm sure that you will get from most MEGO collectors is.... point the feet down and ease the boots on very slowly! Glad you got them on!
+Count Stankus Thanks! I put the stirrups over the heels as well as the toes which helped the boots to slide better and had to try to push tight jointed feet through the skinny boots without denting them....

PS I see the kenner alien box in the background. I've had mine shot for a couple years never edited it together. There's a handful of variations on these guys at different prices.
Never seen a mego Batman with a grey cape. I grew up with these and the quality control was awful. The paper insignias were especially awful. They fell off within mere hours of unboxing. The Star Trek figures were pretty good, though. I had a Kirk and a Spock and loved them.
Yah but these show their time. I will always love my MEGO Batman figures and the Star Trek figures. Soon I will review the Star Trek figures.
I also recall having a Lone Ranger and Tonto and the attention to detail was really top-notch. Larger than Mego but smaller than G.I.Joe. Really good toys. Love your stuff and looking forward to the Star Trek reviews. I remember that the alien figures were just bizarre (much like the TV show but even stranger).
