Randotti were my parents! Hi gang. I am Jeff Smith, son of Randy and Dotti Smith. I was the last owner of Randotti Products. I have a couple of corrections from the video. 1) The three skulls on the left are copies, not original Randotti Products skulls. Cal Themes was one company my father had trouble with. You can see the painting quality and near the end of the video the skull is shown on the bottom and you can see the poor seam and plaster work. 2) Not all the skulls were "Ivans." The Ivans had hair, as in "Ivan the hairy One" (size of the spider skull) and "Lil Ivan" (shown). The skulls shown in the video are "Small Skull, Pirate Necker Skull, Med Skull, Large Skull, Spider Skull (note that the spider is a Creepy Crawler item), Pirate Skull, and Randotti Laughing Skull. 3) Randotti Products did not go out of business because of the prices. Randotti went out of business because of buyer corruption. Soon after my father passed away (1987) the Disney buyer received payoffs from a Chinese company that copied our entire line, but sold them for considerably more. Disney greed, very poor quality copies and very high prices ended the era of souvenir skulls at Disneyland.
Hello Sir, I very much appreciate you reaching out. I am honored that the son of the Randotti family has commented on my video. I spent a bit of time on going through the internet trying to find information on your family and the skulls. Looks like some of the info I found was wrong. Your comment is fantastic information. I have some questions for you. I would love to speak with you in person. Maybe through a zoom call or a Facebook video call. If that is possible, please let me know. Thank you so much.
The laughing skull I have was purchased at Disney World in Florida in the mid 70's. If these were all made by using a mold, why are their teeth different? The teeth in my laughing skull doesn't look like either of the skulls above. Mine has two middle uppers, with a space on both sides. 5:44
@@babbalonian2 Yes, all Randotti items were made in rubber molds, my father would make several molds for each skull, often giving each a personal look, such as different missing teeth. I can tell just by looking at the video, that the skull on the left (at min 5:44) us a fake Randotti, a constant issue while Randotti was in operation. Not seeing your skull, I can't really give you any explanations.
Hello and thank you for posting/ creating this video today on my Facebook group page I posted many example of Monster Toys and you helped me entertain my group ! Thank you
Loved seeing your collection. I wanted to mention the Skulls, shrunken heads, and tiki items were sold next to the jungle cruise exit area (roughly where the new stroller parking is today). Also a wooden style tombstone by Randotti was sold at Knotts Berry Farm as well.
Thank you for pointing out the spot outside the Jungle Cruise. I was going to talk about the location as well and forgot about it. I remember all of the huge rubber snakes that were sold there as well!
Great video. I watched this yesterday and went to the thriftstore today and in the first minute, I found a walt disney world tombstone. It says "Here lies Bob, loaded - so was the gun".
I remember taking my 1974 version to my friends house as a kid whenever I stayed the night. Who needs to pack clothes as a kid, but definitely need the cool skulls.
I have a very similar plaster glow in the dark skull that I got from Valleyfair in the late 70s/early 80s. It's not a Randotti. I recall them being ubiquitous at all amusement parks back then.
You can buy unfinished plaster randotti skulls etc. From a shop in your neck of the woods. They purchased the randotti I molds when they went out of business.
Count Stankus it's a great alternative if you can't afford the eBay prices for the vintage randotti products and you just want the and don't care about having a true vintage randotti. They also appear to plaster atleast part of the randotti markings on the skulls to make it difficult for people to attempt to pass them off as vintage randotti items. Super easy to finish as well.
I got one from DisneyWorld, I believe. Ivan, the Hairy One. Don't know if they called him that or if I made that up. Late 80s. 1989, I think. He glows in the dark. He's a bit larger than a softball, give or take, and he's got a head skull full of grey hair hanging down. Almost like the one shown in this video, but larger. There's a rope-like thing that allows you to hang him on the wall. The last time I checked, he still glows. I need to go through some old boxes and find him.
@@o.h7872 Anytime! Not long after this video I discovered that the Randoti family sold all of their molds. So it turned out that some of the skull that you see in the video were not made by Randoti. Randoti skulls have a specific markers mark on them and usually the skulls made by Randoti have dirty weathered paint over the entire skull.
Weird thing Ive wondered about the laughing skulls, if they were made in a mold, why do they look different. I have the 1974, but the teeth in mine look alot different than yours. Mine was purchased at Disney "World" in the mid 70's.
In the 90s they sold a soft rubber like glow in the dark skull with a little bit of spine connected to the skull. It was battery operated, to make the mouth move.. It was so awesome. Especially if you put a bandana on the skull..To this day I cannot find a picture or anything on them..
about.. ..5 minutes in and I'm like............so......i guess I'm going to to be hitting up some goodwill today acting all sweaty looking for skulls.... thanks stankis......
Thank you for the informative video! I've been wondering why Disneyland stopped carrying Ivans, and you answered a lingering question. I thought it had to do with The Nightmare Before Christmas brouhaha (I'd rather have classic Ivan!), but you have set me straight. I've had an Ivan since I was in 6th grade (late 70's). I got mine right outside of Jungle Boat Cruise in Disneyland. Back then they sold two Ivans named "Ivan the Hairy One", one had long black hair, the other white hair. My Ivan looks like a combination of the skull with the spider on it and the black haired skull next to the tiki necklace in your video. My number is 829A, and I bet 829B is the white-haired Ivan. But you probably knew that already. You are the Toy Master. Oh, and mine still has a $5.00 price tag on the bottom. Do you perchance have the Haunted Mansion board game? I found one a few years ago at a thrift store in Portland, Oregon. Alas, it's missing the Doom Buggies. Thanks again for the video. I clicked "subscribe"!
Thanks a lot for the comment and subbing. I wish I had the board game but I do not. There are so many great items to collect from the vintage days of Disney!
Those faded white ones do not look like originals. As far back as the 60's, the gift shops would occasionally sell copies molded from the originals with hacky paint jobs. Agreements were made to prevent this but it happened, especially after Randotti went OOB. I'm lucky I got one of the last original 847's from Disney World in 1987. The only "Ivan" was the rotting voodoo skull with black or white hair. Extremely hard to find now.
Great video dude . A lot of fun
I've got the same on Adam has and mine is no. 847 as well.
Adam, we need to get him more subs. Plug his channel. People need to know of the count
Thanks a lot!!!!!!
"Alas, poor Woo! I knew him, Count Stankus, a fellow of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy!"
Thanks!

Awesome subject. Just checked ebay and the skull with snakes is listed several times from 55$ up so might not be too hard for you to get one.
Yah I will own one for sure!
Thanks you watching you always a brother to me
I have one of these skulls the one with the spider on his head. Any idea on a valuation?
That's great! I have no idea of the value on these. Maybe see what they go for on eBay.
I can't seem for find any of the ones with the spider but I will keep an eye out. Appreciate the response!

Yeah mines really almost Gone yellow and brown but it still glows and it's got the markings on both sides including the iJ mark on one side
Also Randotti produced Tombstones for Knott's Berry Farm in the 1970s/1980s.

I’ve had a Randotti Snake Skull 981 since I was a kid
Really COOL episode!!!
I had one in the early 80s but it got lost about 12 years ago in a move :(

That's awesome. Glad you have one!
