14:50 Amazing restoration, and great video. For me personally, when you say Batman, these are actually the first characters I think of. The Batman and Robin vs Joker and Penguin. Always a classic. 👍
Looks great! I don't collect Mego figures, I'm mostly a 60s-70s-80s Barbie collector, but I love watching all kinds of restorations like these. I think I have a pair of those Robin boots in my stash of bits and pieces, I always wondered what doll they went to.
Thanks! I too enjoy watching restorations of all sorts, they're somehow relaxing 👍 And it's always great to finally identify those spare parts that have been sitting in the cupboard for years 🤘
Wow! Can't believe it's been this long since you started in these Mego Restorations. But look at the end result! Fantastic!! They look brand new! Good job David!! Great video my friend.
You should know me by now, it's take a while for me to do anything on YT 🤣 Very pleased with the result though and they're looking great on the shelf. Cheers our Shabbty 🤘
Enjoyed watching you restore these cool figures. Not something I see myself collecting "yet"😉 but so cool you gave these a second life again. Ace job Dave 👍
Thanks Chris!! 👍 Mego produced figures for so many different licenses, it's worth taking a look to see if there's anything that crosses your interests. I've grown to like them more and more over the years 🤘
What a great video, you put the effort in and certainly have reaped the rewards. I must admit my knees gave an involuntary squeak when you applied the G clamps!
My first stab (literally) at sewing - had a quick course from my partner and then straight into it 🤣 Part 2 of this video series covers the clothing restoration 👍
LOL. That brought back memories of my first attempt at restringing a type 1 Mego body, i worked it out eventually! 🤪👍 You've done a great Job restoring these four reprobates Dave, and the production of the video is excellent, very entertaining! 👌
Dave, your community post just prompted me to come back and comment, I watched this on the TV the other day and thoroughly enjoyed it but forgot to leave a comment 🤦♂️ I really enjoyed the music to this one and it's great to see the figures recieve the VTR treatment 👍
Cheers Christian!! 🤘 Forgetting to comment, I never forget anything 🤣 Yeah I've had fun with the music for the last few videos, and perhaps there will be a new soundtrack for the next one 🤔 Hope all is good with you and family and maybe we'll see a Smugglers video some time soon 🤞
Hey Dave , really enjoyed this restoration video , had a lot of everything in there I was laughing throughout , your humour is very much like mine , loved the figures sat there in the buff with spider man giving them all some friendly neighbourhood advice , you have done a top notch job at restoring those figures great video Dave , thank you keep them coming 😀😀😀
Hey Dave!! Glad you liked it and appreciated the "humour" - I think a lot of it flies over the heads of our US counterparts 🤣 Had fun making this one - didn't really plan the figures at the back - it just presented itself during filming!! I laugh at Spiderman as well 🤘 Have several videos in process, so will keep going for a little while yet - hope to see a DTM video at some point too 🤞
Dave, you really are a magician!!! Your skills are quite spectacular mate! Bravo my friend bravo 👏 👏👏👏 I absolutely love your video style, everything is put together brilliantly, even banging tunes to go with it lol. Awesome 🤜🤛
Thanks Luke!! You are too kind with your words 🙏 I love doing the restorations, but man, putting a video together around them is hard work!! The editing takes a while, but am having fun being a DJ 🤣 Thanks for your continuous support buddy 🤘
Very clever Dave with finally finishing your restorations. Really interesting watch. I shouldn't have laughed when u stuffed up the restring twice, but i did 🤣Noticed Spiderman came in to watch at one point too 😁 👍
@@VintageToyRush Absolutely! Some people make things look so easy and when u try it, its not easy, so thanks. Yeah it was good to see Spiderman take some time out to support the hero buds 👍😎🤣
What an absolutely stunning video, Dave! Your your production values, scene selection, and music are all just fantastic! I enjoyed watching this so much, and especially that funky ending song! And about these figures: I love watching you restore these because I had a few of these "oven-mitt" super heroes when I was a kid and they are amongst my memories of my first toys, along with the Pkanet of the Apes figures, before Star Wars figures became a thing. I'm especially impressed with your high level of patience in re-stringing that Robin. I don't think I could ever do that. And the fix on Batman's knees? That was brilliant and I never would have been able to accomplish it myself. Once again, awesome video, Dave! Thanks for taking us on the journey!
Ah thanks Paul for your kind words!! 🙏 These are my favourite kind of videos to produce - I feel there's some longevity to them and perhaps can be helpful for others so don't mind putting in that extra effort on the production! The Mego figures have a real charm, and I do laugh at those oven mitts 🤣 Most of the time on these videos, I'm doing repairs for the first time, so am learning on the job! The next re-string would probably take 5 mins 🤘 And that knee challenge, just up my street - keeps the brain working! Thanks for watching as always!! 👍
Is it intentional that the "Kraken" appears after you say let's "crack on" in your videos? Nice pun. Great restoration Dave. I hope the movie lives up to the hype and is a suitable reward.
Ha! Yes it is intentional, started doing this a few videos back - not sure many people have noticed! Well spotted 👍 Lets hope The Batman does live up to hype 🤘 Cheers!
Nice restorations, I have done a fair few of these, to make capes and stickers I used Toy Polloi templates and I went to Poundland and purchased some Umbrellas, the colours match perfectly for Batman and Superman and they are pretty much the same material, gets expensive shipping from the USA
Thanks!! 🤘 Great tip for sourcing the material!! Would never have thought of that 👍 Shipping just getting more expensive by the day - so I try to batch up a pile of things and send them over in a single parcel !!
Usually rivets need to be drilled out. So I wouldn't recommend unless you want to take the risk of damaging the plastic. I don't have one in front of me right now so there could be a less dramatic way 👍
Really sweet restoration! Enjoyed it. Also the first 2 were pretty interesting. You did some really awesome work on these. Looks like you had just bought them from back in the day. What's the name of the song at the end of the video?
Thanks!! 👍 Yep, really pleased with the result. The song at the end is MILANO - Gotta Keep Goin' - you can find it on YT. I have a license to use it in this video 🤘
Amazing restorations. When you re-strung Robin the third and final time, what did you do differently that time to get both the torso to not twist AND the legs to not spread out so much? Thanks!
Hi Michael, thanks for the comment 🤘 Just had to watch that part again 🤣 on the 3rd attempt, I did not cross the string in the torso, so it goes up the left side, through the left arm, across to right arm, down right side. Then for the legs, the trick is to feed the string over the peg in the pelvis which will help stop the legs from spreading. Hope that helps 👍
@@VintageToyRush thanks so much! 10 months later I'm going to finally restring my batman haha and your video and your reply above will definitely guide me through it, I'm confident!
Augh! LOL.... I successfully restrung my Batman but as i was trying to push his boot onto his other leg, i broke THAT leg at the knee joint! so annoying!
For this one, I think I used Humbrol acrylic paints, generally matt, sometimes satin. If I need a gloss, I can always cover in a clear acrylic. When restoring Mego heads, I brush on the minimal amount of paint possible 👍
Very likely 👍 It will depend on exactly what's wrong, but if the arms are connected via elastic, you can replace the elastic as shown in this video. If they're connected by a joint and not damaged in any way, you may be able to push it back on. You're welcome to message me on twitter / instagram with a photo if you wish, and then we can see exactly what's up. Cheers! 🤘
@@VintageToyRush I was intereseted in buying it for the purposes of restoring it until i saw the dislocated arm. Its selling for 18 at the antique flea market. He's going to need a new cape, boots and gloves and that might be pricey.
Hello Dave I've restung a few megos and it's totally unnecessary to remove heads. I Only watched this to see if you removed the head, it's pointless and can cause damage to the figure. These type one's are better restrung with the heads left on.
Hi, so you only watched this video to see if I removed the heads 🤣 It might be unnecessary, but I still went ahead with it, as I was painting as well. If you watch some of my other restoration videos, you'll see I like to completely dismantle old toys. It's how I do it and others find it useful and informative. Thanks for watching 👍
Hello Dave yes I have now watched the rest of the video however maybe I should of been clearer on the figures I was referring to. The mego Planet of the apes line are particularly difficult to remove the heads and prone to tearing. I ruined a few of these taking the heads off. My own original Dr zaius I didn't remove the head and found I could restring perfectly without the extra work of messing about with the head. However I didn't do any paint work and left the head in play worn condition. My point is purely for restringing it's best not to remove heads. All the best jim
