when i was a little kid my parents got to go to a liquidation sale for the Corvettes department store. they ended up bringing home a big 30 gallon lawn bag stuffed with what must have been an entire store shelf of mego action figures. it was mostly all from the Worlds greatest heroes but also included some figures from star trek and some arthurian knights as well. One of those days you wish would never end...

I'm 2 years late to the party. I enjoyed this - I was born in 1971, so it's weird that I remember having Batman with the removable cowl (made in '72, according to this - I thought even as a kid that I had something rare, since all my friends' figures had the molded-in cowl). I would like to have seen The Lizard mentioned here, even if just in comparison to The Green Goblin or whatever. The Lizard was one of my favorites, as was The Falcon.

    • @markwilliams6394
      @markwilliams6394 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I had the Lizard too plus the Green Arrow. Probably more but those were my favorites and have stuck in my mind more. Got the CaptaIn Kirk with accessories recently but out of the package. Got it cheap enough to warrant me buying it. Do have many of the new ones and the Batman sculpt is horrible but I love it. Just got a new Mutant Leader from Planet of the Apes that was put in the card upside down. Figured I might not see one like that again.

    My brother (1976) and I (1972) had:
    1. Batman with molded cowl
    2. Robin
    3. Incredible Hulk
    4. Riddler
    5. Joker
    6. Spider-Man and.....
    7. Green Arrow!

SHAZAM was never talked about but with the tv show it was my choice .

    • @dhenderson1810
      @dhenderson1810 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting fact about Shazam.
Shazam was actually not the hero's name. Shazam was the wizard that gave Billy Batson his powers. All he had to do is tell the wizard's name SHAZAM and Batson would become a hero called Capt. Marvel.
Now, Marvel Comics sued DC for the use of the word "Marvel" in Capt Marvel, and won
Marvel then changed their Capt Marvel to a woman named Carol Danvers, while DC renamed their Capt Marvel to Shazam, since most mistakenly called him that anyway.
In a final irony, the movies of "Shazam" and "Captain Marvel" ran head-, to-head against each other at the cinemas. I wonder how many knew about their shared history.

As a young child who loved the "Batman" TV series, I had Batman, Joker, Riddler and Penguin Mego figures, but wanted a Robin one too, to complete my collection, and told Santa at the department store that I wanted a Robin mego figure, and got it on Christmas morning, so that I could play my own "Batman" TV adventures.

Welcome back. Quality Vs Quantity? I'll take a quality video any day over a weekly ho-hum video. I know what it takes to produce videos at such high quality and am very appreciative of your efforts. It is funny that 3 3/4 inch figures were my fascination in the late 70's and early 80's. Most kids had just moved on past the 8 inch MEGO's and into Star Wars and G.I. Joe, in fact I remember it was uncool to be caught paying with MEGO's due to their doll like qualities. How things have changed. Now I actively collect MEGO's and have traveled far distances to see others collections of them. It is also a new day for 8 inch MEGO style collecting as Figures Toy Company and Diamond Select are putting out some exciting new products. PLUS Marty Abrams is rumored to be bringing back the MEGO name. Thanks for all you do.

Granted this comment is late, really late, but I just saw it. Odd algorithm considering I watch figure reviews, best of shows, and what's new. Well I'm here now. Mego brings back epic memories of my childhood. I was a little boy when I first saw these. Now I LOVED Mego Superheroes more than almost anything. My parents(at times..lol), and my dogs came first, but my comics and my Megos were next! I can remember my Dad picking me up from school, and every once and a while he'd have a "surprise" hidden in the car. In the glove box, under the seat, or in the back seat. I'd jump around looking for it. I can remember getting Superman, Batman, Iron-Man, Captain America, and the Falcon. Finding these hidden treasures was a epic thing for a little kid. My only gripe, was that the Mego figures had "Stickers" for logos. Superman's S, Batman's Bat, even the little R on Robin's shirt, and the tiny A on Aquaman's belt was a sticker AND THEY NEVER STAYED ON! I had a Batman, Superman, Robin, Shazam, Captain America, and Mr and Mrs Fantastic's 4's were all missing. My second round I tried glue. Nope. Modeling glue, then super or Krazy glue worked, sort of. Guys like the Torch, the Thing, Spider-Man, Falcon, didn't have stickers. Spider-Man's 🕷spider🕷🕸 was sewed into the suit. Falcon didn't have a "logo" just wings, the Thing was all rock, the Torch was fire. Iron Man's "beam" logo was sewed onto the suit, BUT the yellow circle inside of the plastic circle was a yellow sticker, and it did come off. That one was easily fixed, even for a 5-8 year old boy. I'm NOT bashing the lineup or the figures at all! I adored these guys! Yes I'd be bummed when I'd find Batman without his Bat sticker on his chest or a S-less Superman. But it never stopped my imagination from playing. Creating, and enjoying these guys. The Hulk was on of my favorites. Overall #1-10, #1)Captain🇺🇸America #2)Hulk #3)Spider-Man #4)Falcon #5)The Lizard #6)Thing & The Human Torch #7)Iron-Man #8)Green Goblin #9)Thor #10)Joker & Batman. **note- Kid-Flash, Aqualad, Wonder-Girl, Speedy or Little Green Arrow but in red.
    Ones I WISH THEY MADE
    #1)Black Panther #2)Daredevil #3)Red Skull #4)Doctor Octopus🐙 #5)Doctor Doom #6)Flash red & yellow #7)Mysterio #8)Vulture #9)Green Lantern #10)Sandman #11)Scorpion #12)Rhino #13)Hawkman #14)Captain🥶Cold🧊 #15)Black Manta
I wanted to put Lex Luthor on the list but I vaguely remember seeing a Lex Luthor, a Martian Manhunter, and a Green Lantern figure, but that was at the end of their run. I was a teenager when 1981 hit, so not sure about those figures. In the early and mid 70's though, I'd have been all over those figures. Or asking the parents.....PLEEEEEAAASSSSEEEE! LOL!
Now there are figures made of characters I didn't know existed. I've heard they're called "FILLER" figures. They are used as inserts for BAF sets. They NEVER have a BAF set where EVERY figure is one you want. Or it's a rarity if it happens. Usually there are 2 or 3 figures that are "filler figures" which Hasbro makes you buy if you want the entire BAF. It's a very underhanded way to force people to buy characters they don't want. Another reason I'm NOT a fan of Hasbro. The days of Mego Superheroes line is long gone. The squishy heads, the fabric suits. Those figures were amazing. The time spent playing with them, a wonderful experience. Those days ended, but their memories live on!
I do agree 100% on Mr.Myxzplk or ?whatever? his name is or however the spelling is supposed to be? In the comics he oddly is a Superman villain. How this little Troll can outdo the man of steel? No idea. Again though he is like a little troll, gremlin, or evil little imp. He's barely 3feet tall, but the figure, he looks almost normal height. He plays mental games, mind games, etc. But again the figure looks odd. Weird? Or just not right for the character he is supposed to be. He actually reminded me of the Great Gazoo from the Flintstones. Annoying but powerful, especially if you piss him off!

Me and my friends were on to "collectible toys" way back in the 1980s. Both Child World and Play World had some OLD STOCK that surfaced late in the game (1984 ish!) . We got boxed Mr. Myxpltzyx and Iron Man . Boxes had sale stickers all over them, but we got like 10 of each for $2.79 each !! We also got the magnetic Batman and Robin for like $7.00 each. We used to drive around Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens to older toy stores. Found some AMAZING non-mega stuff too !! Mattel Rodans in the box; $6.99 each !!

I had Green Arrow, Green Goblin, the Hulk (sensing a pattern here), and Robin (I think).
I still have the Hulk- none of my others survived a fire we had when I was 12.
I think I also made an HQ for them out of wood, but it was basically just a few loose boards I nailed together or something.
Still love Bronze Age Marvels to this day. 😊

Love this. Great job. Although, I have to give love to the Joker. Prior to Mego Ideal did 12" Captain Action figures that never did a villain line. Joker was unique.

My favorite toys of childhood. So many franchises and genres at one scale was wonderful. The best part being mix matching clothes and heads for extra characters that never were produced (especially thanks to Superman and Aquaman heads being for some reason plentiful in 70s yardsales). All great choices on the list.

I had three Green Arrows and two Robin's during my childhood. Despite those toys falling apart I could not part with Arrows hat or Robin's boots. Don't know when they disappeared but I know that I didn't throw them out.

Great video Tony, I’m currently collecting the mego figures myself, they are just so cool my #1 would have to be superman but it’s hard to choose as they all have good points & bad points .

I got so many of these my neighbor down the street was rich and he got bad grades so his parents threw away his toys in the dumpster and me and my brother went into the dumpster and collected them all out

Just discovered your channel and this was my first choice for a vid to watch. Very enjoyable and fun, even for a non-collector like me. I’ve subscribed and I’m looking forward to checking more videos out. On topic for this one, even though I’m four years late to the comment party here…. I’m not so sure I would be too afraid of that Green Goblin with his pink angora sweater and purse, but I wouldn’t want to chance incurring his wrath. And boy those superheroes sure enjoyed rocking the sideburns in the 70’s, didn’t they?

Hi Tony! I normally watch you on my TV, but wanted to get on the keyboard to leave some comments. After my Moms death I was out of the loop for awhile, but I'm much better now and have been playing catch-up. This is a really solid list. There's a couple I would probably swap out in favor of, (The Thing,) but yeah I'm with you 90% here for sure. I did really like and enjoy playing with the Kenner Super Powers and Mattel Secret Wars, but even then they were so dissapointing to me compared to the Mego figures. When I was a little boy Mego was starting to phase out, but there were stray figures here and there throughout the (LOL , I just think this is a funny phrase) "80s Discount Scene". But aside from discount stores, they were in just weird random places. I bought a 3.75" Scotty from Star Trek TMP at a gas station in the middle of nowhere three or four years after the fact while on family holiday? Or finding the 8 inch Robin at a pharmacy also on a family vacation in the middle of the desert, again in like 1984 or something? Anyways, I remember spending days comparing the Mego Robin and the Super Powers Robin, and there was just no contest. I don't want to come off as not liking them (SP & Secret Wars), but it was just doubfounding to me that figures that good were actually around at one time. I remember Mego in the 70s as well, but it was when I was a little older (9 or 10?) that I started to appreciate them. Love your channel Tony, Love the 3POA , the Retro Blasting collaborations, and I'm definiately going to find one of those 3.75" Action Force Desert Rats! Cheers Bro!

I had so many of these and wish I had kept them given how much they resell for .
Unfortunately I sold all mine at a family garage sale in the 80s .
    Damn .

Although I had Spider-Man 🕷, Batman, Shazam, and Super Man (as well as Kirk, Spock, and Bones) in the 8 inch version, my greatest fascination was with the Pocket Heroes.

I guess I should have kept it. I had no idea it wasn't very common because no one else wanted it.

Another quality video, cheers Tony. I would definitely put The Lizard in my top 5, was he ever available as a non fist fighting figure? If not, I'll let you off for excluding him. 😉 Excellent work as usual, do Mego Apes next!

These action figures are among the best if not best ever made. I happen to own 6 of them from the lot he has shown. Even though mines aren't carded they are in pristine condition and I have no idea what they're worth etc lol.

Can't argue with this list. I probably owned most of them (except swap Tarzan for Conan) even the secret identity variants. But I would switch Thing and Hulk and Lizard over Green Goblin. The Lizard was perfect and unique with the long stuffed tail.
