Hi Phil, been there, done that!! All I did was leave the fibreglass/ gel coat to go off by itself over a few weeks/ months. Of course you don't have that luxury necessarily... but it's always worth remembering that it does go off all by itself eventually!
Hi Phil, thanks for the wonderful video once again. I always enjoy your videos. I’m on my way down to Sydney next Wednesday, 20 November to go and see some surgeons at Macquarie University Hospital. Only going to be there for three hours , a bit of a drive from Logan city just south of Brisbane anyway should be a lot of fun. I always like going past the Hawkesbury River absolutely beautiful part of the country of Australia , Cliff from Logan City, Queensland, Australia 🇦🇺 I’m on the big island 🏝️
Hi Cliff, You can call in a have a look at Jabiru if you like. Let me know if you want to and I'll text the address to your phone. It's at Mount Kuring Gai, just south of Berowra, on your way north.
Hi Cliff, my wife informs me that we will be in Melbourne on Wednesday. You are still welcome to visit and my son Sean will show you the boat. Phone or text me on 0402 232 014 if you want to see it.
Rather than re-coat with more Gelcoat, some elbow work on the cured Gelcoat with wet and dry abrasives will give you the nice finish you want. If you recoat, you are going to end up with the runs and curtaining you built the mould to avoid in the first place.
May I suggest that if you do more of this type of work. Put on some leather gloves before trying to rip excess glass off. Ask me how many stitches and how long it takes to heal.
Just wondering, how did you find working with polyester resin versus the epoxy? I assume you fiberglassed the hull using epoxy resin... Is the polyester smell really that bad as some say?
It's great to see a video popping up. I really enjoy this rebuild. Thanks.
Thanks Martyn
Excellent real-world video, Fil.
Thank you.
Ultimately you got what you wanted and it’s a very nice looking drip tray. You also got to test how strong it is! Good job.
Thank you. I'm happy with it.
Good video, we all make mistakes, but it how you get over them !!!!
Thank you.

I really should have removed the first coat before continuing.
At least you made the mistakes on the parts that no one is really going to to see much less inspect.
You're right, there won't be much of it to see.
Great work Phill as always 🦘
Thank Kerry

The trouble with doing that is that there are a couple of dings from my efforts to remove the mold so after puttying those I will have to re-coat.
Thanks turned out great
Thank you.
OMG the work, he could have made a one-off in 2-3 hours lol...
Not sure how it could have been done in 2-3 hours.
Thanks.
Great piece of work did you use a release agent on the mold ? look forward to the Engine rebuild and top work
Yes. I did use release agent, but the uncured first coat acted like a sticky glue.
May I suggest that if you do more of this type of work. Put on some leather gloves before trying to rip excess glass off. Ask me how many stitches and how long it takes to heal.
Always handled with care.

Yes, much more pungent than epoxy and very much shorter pot life.
