    You're editing, framing, and choice of music is next level. Pair that with a detailed review of a product that allows us to see it compared to other options really shows the quality of your channel. I wait for each vid and know your channel will continue to grow. Keep innovating and keep kicking ass

    The push pin method was pure gold! I was thinking to use a drill but that probably wouldn't have been as precise. Turned out great! I used a push pin,a small round file and a carpet knife.

    The battery life definitely impressed me! It's hard to believe the flash cards use up all that power! I guess that gives physical collectors a good reason to own physical copy's of there favorite games :)

      Macho Nacho Productions try out the Everdrive GBA X5 Mini, battery consumption is apparently much better than the Ez flash, albeit still worse than a regular game cart. I'd guess around 8-8.5 hrs based on the test in the vid.

    Great video again! That's a very interesting modification. The benefits of not producing waste, being able to use any phone charger and charging while playing (without losing your progress) outweigh the shorter playing time compared to alkaline batteries by far, in my opinion.
    By the way - that intro is the best I ever saw on any retro gaming youtube channel.

    • @MachoNachoProductions
      @MachoNachoProductions  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Saul! It took me a while to create the intro! So glad you enjoy it! I agree this mod is great compared to disposable batteries and it has some definitely advantages over rechargeable AAs. But there are some benefits to rechargeable AAs as well. I'm just happy we have so many options! Cheers buddy!

    I like the minimal case destruction of this mod and ease of reverting back to regular batteries. I might even 3d print a battery cover with usb c opening. So I went to order one and... "You are currently #218 on the list of 218 people." in line to buy. Doh!

    Finally a test for these Lithium battery mods, I was waiting to see if they are worth the investment, but I guess I'll stick to my NiMH batteries for now. Thank you so much for this, your channel is great.

      @MachoNachoProductions  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you Gregory! Glad the video was informative! I’d say that’s one of the great things about the original GBA is that we have some pretty good options for batteries. NiMH is a great and cost effective option! Cheers!

    • @bland9876
      @bland9876 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only real benefit this thing gives you is that you can plug the USBC in and charge while playing whereas if your batteries die your battery is die.
      On all my old systems that have a power plug I just use that instead of dealing with batteries at all. I don't play them outside my house so its no big deal to me to be connected to a wall.

    Thanks to your guides I was able to modify my GBA, I never thought I’d be able to mod anything in my life but you made it simple and easy to understand, I’ve already replaced the shell and buttons on my GBA and also got a IPS screen, I just ordered the battery on Amazon and I’m waiting for it to arrive. Thank you for teaching me to make my childhood Gaming system better than I remember. At this point I’m going to give my PimpBoy (it has a wooden shell and gold buttons, my absolute pride and joy) to my kids to make sure they grow up playing proper games and not this modern day cashgrab nonsense. Nice, with the testing from the plain disposable AAs for a control, this is some quality content. I went this a different USB C battery mod from retro six/handheld legend for my ISP v2 GBA. 1700mah but I've never given it the time lapse test. It also lacks the low battery LED on the PCB life this Retro Modding battery.

    I considered doing this, but then I thought "what's the point?" I bought an 8 pack of NiMH 2800maH batteries and a charger for $20 and it lasts longer on a pair of the batteries than this would between charges. AND I can just swap in 2 batteries while the spent ones are recharging. I couldn't see paying $60 for this.

    • @MachoNachoProductions
      @MachoNachoProductions  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Totally agree, NiMH batteries work great! I have a bunch of them as well that I use for things around the house as well as my portable consoles. It’s a fantastic option. I think these lithium ion options are pretty good too. Cheers dude!

    • @minoltacollector9128
      @minoltacollector9128 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, but for me personally I already use NiMH rechargeables for about 20 different things at this point lol, mostly old film camera equipment, so anything that I can convert to rechargable is a blessing for me lol

    • @zorbcck
      @zorbcck 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      P.S I hope you don't mind some critism but the intro is rather loud sometimes compared to the rest of the video and find myself messing with the volume. Not a big deal but thought I would mention none the less. Nether the less 10/10 video!

      No worries Zorbcck, criticism is always welcome. It's how we improve. I will say that audio is one of this things I am continuing to try and improve upon. I often end up with sounds files that vary in volume and I try to correct it in post production. It's been a learning process for me. I will continue to try and improve the audio! Cheers buddy!

    I really appreciate that you did a battery life test with the EZ-Flash! I love using my modded backlit GBA to play but if I am using regular batteries and my EZ-Flash I get maybe 2-4 hours out of each set of batteries. I will definitely be investing in a rechargeable battery, especially since it's so much easier to install than I would have thought😄

      But a the same time, the individual double aa batteries let you swap them whenever you need so don't need to plug in to a wall when you're low on battery, so i think each option has it's pros and cons

    • @billy-waynejeffcoat4828
      @billy-waynejeffcoat4828 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@looeegee people don't seem to understand just having rechargeables in the house usually outweighs built in lithium imo. Try having this argument with a ps fanboy as to why you think the Xbox controller is a smarter idea and they break down fast and go full stupid.

    • @MachoNachoProductions
      @MachoNachoProductions  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      AA are is definitely a very flexible option. It's what makes the GBA so great!

    • @2N3mo001
      @2N3mo001 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree that each has their pros and cons and that built in can be a huge pain. It seems to me that this mod is a best of both (correct me if I'm wrong) since the battery pack looks easily removable and it doesn't look too difficult to add a removable divider (if it is even needed) and put in AA (alkaline or Li-ion). Also correct me if I'm mistaken again but looks like it will fit just as well in a GBC. I'm buying this as I'm typing.

    Looks like a good one. I got the unbranded one from RetroGameRepairShop that I just installed, but I'm really bothered by how far it is from the cover, I had to make a bigger cover to accommodate for the USB-C charger's plastic. Makes me kinda regret not getting this one instead

  • @rileymartin8284
    @rileymartin8284 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Didn't realize they'd put out a USB-C revision of the battery pack. I've got 4 modded GBAs (3 done myself, the last one bought pre-built from Retro Modding) & they all use the Micro USB connector. I'd ask you to compare the 2 revisions of the battery pack for things like charge time, and any possible battery life differences, but not only do I think they'd be negligible, I also don't think you'd be able to get one of the older battery packs at this point.
    Now, if only someone would make a rechargeable pack for the GBC that's *THIS* simple to install. I still have my childhood Teal GBC & my grandmothers Purple (Reshelled because no way in HELL was I cleaning out all the baby powder & make-up residue (she kept it in the bathroom)) GBC & I'd like t give them this last upgrade to "Modern" status.

    • @Phatnaru0002
      @Phatnaru0002 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It feels pointless though. Not only does it not charge faster than the microUSB, but it actually seems to charge... slower.

    I have seen other batteries for controllers that come with their own battery door that already has a cutout for the charging so it would be cool if this could come with that. Some of them are all in one unit where the battery door is connected to the battery though that may be too much to ask.

      Madblaster6 it will certainly be challenging. The adhesive in the FunnyPlaying kits are quite strong. It’ll probably involve a heat gun and a lot of patience in order to remove. On the plus side, if damaged, they are reasonably inexpensive to replace. Cheers!

    The difference between the EZ flash and an official cart is insane. Really makes me wonder if the larger power draw will have a negative effect on the GBA overtime in a similar way that cheaper flash carts can cause damage to other consoles. Great work as always.

    Honestly i just cant seem to get behind this mod. I just ordered an ips display but I would rather use my energizer rechargeable batteries. Bring an extra set with me and boom I have 20 hours of gba fun which is more than enough haha. But great vid as always!

    What is the difference between the RetroModding Battery pack and the RetroSix CleanJuice Battery pack?

      I'm not sure how many mAh the RetroModding has, but according to RetroSix, their CleanJuice Battery is 1700mAh. Also, one of the obvious differences between them is that you don't need to remove the battery contacts with the CleanJuice mod.
      Another thing: if you're thinking of doing an amp mod, RetroSix's CleanAmp should work well with the CleanJuice pack. Since according to RetroSix, the low buzzing sound you hear when you install any amp has something to do with the power conductor ringing. He's currently doing more revisions on the Amp as well to draw less power.
      But there's also an issue with the current batch of CleanJuice mod. The battery LED on the GBA mobo doesn't show when the battery is already low. So if you plan on buying one, I would hold off on that and just wait until the nest revision is released.

      Hey JP! The Retro Modding one I think is 1400 mAh. Not having to remove the battery contacts is a really nice feature1. I didn't know that about the retorsix. Thanks for providing all this information about the RetroSix battery! I'm really excited to try it out! Cheers buddy!

    This is a really nice mod. It's a shame that with batteries shipping restrictions it's hard to get them from retro modding in my country. Having the USB C port available at all times means it's way easier now to have the gba as the travel console with a power pack and the regular everyday usb c cable. No more AA recharging Bricks.

    Which firmware version of the Omega were you using? Also, the Omega has an option to turn off RTC for games that don't use it, so it can help with power consumption for the vast majority of games.
    Maybe you could re-run the tests with RTC off?

      I am currently running FW: 7 K:1.06. That’s really interesting, the Real Time Clock is set to Open which I assume is on. I wonder how much of a difference it will make. I may run a test on this in the future. I need to check to see if I’m running the latest firmware too. Can’t remember if I ever updated it. Thank you for the insight on this! Very helpful! Hola, Tito!
    Can we use the new iPad Air’s 20W USB-C charger and cable for this battery? I would not like to spend in a new one having that lil boy.
    In the product information it says “compatible with most of actual phone chargers” but, you know, it is Apple... xD
    I have decided to buy one of these because my EZ Flash drains my AA batteries way more than I expected lmao.

    Hello sir, I'm in search for some answer, sorry to bother a bit out of topic here but, Do you think is possible to make an upgrade on the android version of the Razer Kishi v1 cointroller from only charge type c to type c 2.0 at least? that way we might be able to connect an external display? like with an adaptor? MHL supported of course
