That battery hold bar was the whole reason I looked this video up. Who knew that taking out a battery could be SO difficult. Thanks for the info...I wasn't sure what the trick to removing that thing was! Great video in general too! Much appreciated!
I never thought I’d be YouTubing how to remove a battery from a lawn tractor. Nor did I ever have to think about winterizing the home or equipment but here I am. Thank you for this video. The manual was helpful but to see how you removed the hold down bar was really beneficial. I took out my rubber spatula to help lift that darn side to release it. Newly widowed and I know someone in Heaven is proud of my accomplishments. I can say. I did it, one day at a time.

Hello is there an order in which way to remove the cables do you take the positive off first or do you take the negative off first what does it really even matter I appreciate the information trying to do it for the first time for myself rookie in training 🥰
QUESTIONS: I have a Craftsman Riding Mower that is about 15 years old, but it has only been used a small number of times. The person who used it moved out of the house, and I cannot drive it because I have epilepsy. I did not attempt to start the mower or charge the battery. My goal was to simply remove the battery, because the battery was noticeably corroded around the connections to the battery. There was also a lot of corrosive material still left on the connectors of the mower and the nuts and bolts - which are actually a golden color rather than silver. Do I need to keep the same nut and bolt that was previously assigned to positive once again assigned to positive in the new battery and vice versa for negative? If so, I'm out of luck, because I had a seizure while doing this and goofed them up. Are these nuts and bolts that have corrosion on them still good to use with the new battery? And are the connections on the mower still okay to use, even though they don't look as good as they originally did? I wiped off as much of that corrosion as I could, but some is still visible.
I just replaced the battery in my 2021 CC, because it would not turn the starter which really sucks because I needed it to blow snow. I tried putting the charger on it and it would not charge. I took it to the Deka dealer in town and she asked the HP of the tractor which was 24HP. She then asked if it seemed like the Tractor seemed to struggle starting even when new, which it had. She said the OEM batteries manufacturers (not just MTD/CC) put in new equipment are notoriously undersized and fail quite quickly and that the battery that came with my tractor was too light for a 24HP tractor. She then sold me a correct CCA battery - 350 CCA at 0 degrees F- with advice on how to maintain it. I can only imagine how the lifetime of the starter has been shortened because it was starved for power.

You can switch bolts. I would suggest new hardware if the nuts and bolts are in poor condition. Clean battery posts and cables.

Hi Scott, the person that helped you with the new battery was correct and I think your starter will be fine.
