    One note: When using an "automatic" charger (not like the manual one you used) sometimes you are required to plug the charger in first! I actually just found this out today! Video saved me though, damn appreciated.

    I had to buy a new battery for my John Deere mower because the old one tested bad and was 5 years old. After connecting the new battery, I put a new one of these tenders on it. It immediately went to "solid red".
    Should the new battery really need charging? I use the battery cable claps to connect it. Thanks

    I expect this mower will last several seasons with decent care. th-cam.com/users/postUgkx1VWTrayKBdCKAjzAcZ_Eg4dhHTae3LkN also recommend Also, I ran across the problem with it not starting the 2nd time I used it. There is a safety switch which is pushed in by the chute or mulching piece being attached to the deck. I took the cover off and it wouldn't start. Put it back on, no problem. It takes only a minute with 2 easily accessible wingnuts and no tools. This mower starts up first crank each time and it is a joy to use. It also mows in reverse by putting the key to the reverse area after starting and pushing in the triangular button. It will stay in reverse mode until you turn it off. All in all, for my homeowner needs, I really like this mower-and at 70 bucks a cut here in Miami, it's already more than 1/3 paid for itself in a month.

    I think my dad left the headlights on and killed the battery. Got it jumped and he did the mowing. He even got off for about half hour and still worked. He finished the lawn, came in and went back out a couple hours later and battery dead. I was getting a click. The first time wasn't even getting that.
    My question is is the battery ok? I am worried he killed the battery leaving it on before. Second is it just not getting charged well enough? Like how long should I charge it for? Also anything else to help. You did help some think he did kill the battery and just need to charge it longer.

    Supposed to keep ur bat indoors (garage) ideally and on a trickle ( tending) charge to keep from sulfate condition over the winter or if not being used for a couple mo. Lead acid Batteries go south because of no use. Btw most u1 batts need around 8 hrs to a full charge is attained. If it holds a 12.8 v charge over 12 hrs after a charge its considered good. *** Keep it on a trickle charge outside if u dont have a shed or garage dont keep it in ur house tho..

    • @bradybell6129

      That is recommended to get any spark away from the battery which might be giving off explosive gas. It may be hard to get a good connection somewhere else. With my tractor, for some reason the automatic charger would not work unless the battery was disconnected.

    Do the bolts on the battery have to stay on? or is okay to remove the battery from the mower and just hook it up

    • @DustinT
      @DustinT  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Does it crank solid and consistent? If it seems weak, I would think the battery is low. If it cranks strong it’s not getting spark, gas, or air. So if check the spark plug and make sure the gas is fresh. I highly recommend stabil for ALL gas put in to mowers. It makes starting them after sitting so much easier. Hope this helps buddy.

      Unplug it, remove black negative then red positive. As a rule NEVER mess with red positive when the black negative is hooked up - all batteries. Means red is installed first, and black is removed first.
