    I'm 63. My parents were from Europe. They used lard and dripping, butter, etc. Grew our own vegetables, pickled stuff in the cellar, excess vegetables all went into a huge wine barrel that was just for that purpose. Recycled everything. A plastic bag was treasured, washed and hung on the washing line for continental reuse, until it fell apart. Take away food was unheard of unless it was a special occasion !!! I do blow out at times. I I bought a kilo of suger a couple of years ago. Never opened it. I dont use it enough. Don't have a tasye for it much. Then I go overboard on a million types of chocolate bars with Turkish delight, or fudge, then I'll find them stashed and way out of date, because I can only eat about one in two days. Lol.

      You're a unique person. I'm from England myself but have lived in the US for almost twenty years now. We rarely go out to eat too and it's nice because it makes it special. My wife is an amazing cook we have gardens as well so we grow about half of what we eat. She's also a good baker and she has a sweet tooth so sugar doesn't last too long, especially if you use it for Coolaid. As far as oil, I like to use lard but we'll sometimes deep fry in vegetable oil that we save in the fridge, used oil is so delicious but not good for you. We mostly use an air fryer to fry things those things are awesome. Really though 95% of our food isn't fried food and if it is it's usually vegetables cooked in olive oil.

      @user-mf5pv8jo4v I am far from unique. Just been brought up to know the difference between what I would want and what I NEED! I am not employed and have 20 acres that I own, 2 staghounds, a cat, 2 horses, 4 rescue reptiles that have to have special vitamins, etc. I haven't got much money left at the end of the fortnight for excess spending on STUFF that I don't need, because I have to feed me too. I work on a simple principle. If I don't have cash for what I WANT, I won't buy it, until I do. I do not have a credit card of any sort. The interest makes it 4 times more expensive.       Our old vegis got fed to our pigs. The pigs rooted up the garden better then any roto tiller. They ate the roots and left compost behind. Next year a weed free garden and the pigs love it.

      I buy and use a kg of sugar per week. Each tea has 4 heaping tablespoons. If no candy i just dump sugar in my mouth. Butter tarts oh so good. 3 cups of sugar to make 12 nice big butter tarts then eat all 12 for a bed time snack. Empty a tub of peanut butter into a mixing bowl. Dump in a cup of sugar and mix well with electric beaters. Tastes so much better when add a cup of sugar to a kilo of peanut butter. Buy salted butter, soften then add more salt and mix like the peanut butter. My friends that limit sugar and use substitutes are all diabetic. Heard all my life i would be diabetic. Well about 3 yrs ago they did blood work and my sugar is low side of average and all my life i eat sugar. Love brown sugar. Leave the bag opens to dry it out. Bang it hard to break into chunks. Presto brown sugar to suck on as go to the store to buy a 10 pound box of candy in bulk.

    My grandma was eating every day olive oil with house made brown bread. She died when she was 113 years.

      @@Lucy-dx7vc we all eat Olive oil. We grow them ourself and dont use pesticides and they will only receive rain water. Its absolutely the most biological olive oil you can find. We dont press them by machines either.

    It would be great if they FDA did their jjob and prosecuted those who falsely lable their oils. It's hard to find a pure olive oil. Also, I remember when the go to oil was cannola oil. The press sang it's praises.

      It's because Canola oil does have a good omega 3 to 6 ratio and when it's cold pressed it's not oxidised yet when you buy it. So it can be significantly better than other Seed oils.

      The FDA isn’t what it was back when Dr. Frances Oldham Kelsey prevented thalidomide from being used in the United States. More recently there has been a revolving door between the industry they are supposed to regulate and the regulators.       @@RickyVis Rubbish, vegetable and canola oil are one and the same thing, its not made from vegetables and there is no such plant on earth called 'canola', they simply renamed rapeseed oil after tinkering with it's genetics slightly to lower the toxic element just enough to make it legal to use as a food. It's still incredibly toxic and FDA's passing of what is essentially a wood and leather working oil as a food is criminal. It is unstable and oxidises quickly, the video says so at the end. Vegetable oil IS seed oil, did you actually even watch the video Ricky?

      Because science labelled those oils and margarine as healthier. As cancer, diabeties, obesity and other health issues got worse those scientists said it was butter and animal fats conning people to eat more margarine and vegi oil. Ya i dont trust science and they made it obvious that science cannot be trusted. My mother is now 80 and still drives and helps move furniture. She ate lard and butter and hot dogs and deep fried food. Healthier then those that trusted science. Scientists are just over paid liars. Give me 50 bucks and tell me what to say. Saved millions on a liar pos scientist. I will lie for 50 bucks cause the health of others has 0 impact on my life.

      @@HeartDiseaseCode The supposed "benefit" of unsaturated vegetable oils was completely unsupported by any medical research when it became fashionable in the 70's. But somehow became "recommended" by medical authorities, even so.

    Thankfully, it is so easy to render tallow. Went to my local butcher and asked for beef bones. He pulls out a big bag from his freezer, plops it down in front of me and says “Llevaselo!” Take it! Free! Went home, dumped everything into slow cooker. All the fat can be skimmed off the surface with a ladle. On the bottom was bone broth. Did this a few times until I had enough fat to render. The best part it was all free! Got 2 healthy foods , bone broth and tallow.

    We are friends with a couple in their early 70s, we tried to explain how seed oils are very unhealthy. She got very defensive and said "we've been using them for years and we're fine." The fact is she has had two different cancers, currently diabetic, significantly over weight, has mobility issues and all kinds of aches and pains... but she's "fine".

    I found a 50/50 olive oil mixed with Avocado oil. I really like it. But now that I learned that coconut oil helps increase large particles. I will start using coconut oil as-well. My lipid profile shows I have more small particles than large.

      ...commercially produced cheap olive oil are problematic. Proper research is necessary to find first cold pressed oil oil.

    I no longer trust olive oil or avocado oil to be unadulterated. As I don’t eat much salad I mostly cook with the fats: with butter or homemade ghee made from pastured butter.

    I am surprised Avocado oil didn't make it on the recommended list, I have read many studies stating it's the No1 oil to use for cooking with a smoke point around 270C plus a lot of beneficial compounds ?

    Organic LARD is also excellent. Full of oleic acid the oil in olive oil, but with a higher smoke point and minimally processed.

      Cook your meat and fish completely without oils or fats in the Airfryer. The kitchen remains perfectly clean and you can add the butter afterwards.

    I am 76 and remember my Mum used to use lard and butter to cook with instead of all these new fangled vegetable oils and what is worse they claim to be better than eating natural fats. So is it so important that we use "man made" products. This video makes real sense especially when you know that a lot of the cafes and restaurants reuse the same oil for days on end which to me makes me feel sick to the stomach. Of course there is the question of how to dispose of reused oils by eateries.

      Most of them have tanks that come and get emptied by a waste oil company which can then be recycled into biodiesel for cars, but still doesn't change that using the same oil for days opens up the door to things like cross contamination of allergens or compounds forming because of repeated heating and cooling

      Yeah I'm not one to fry things often but we save and filter our oil and keep it in the fridge to use again and again until I think it smells off or it's just been too long. Used oil just tastes so darn good to me. If we fry, which is rare it's almost always in an air fryer though but certain things need to be deep fried. I highly doubt we fry anything often enough to cause any health issues but when we do, boy it's deep fried in some vegetable oil that's been used five times lol. I prefer lard but my wife says it smells like wet dog. I use lard for eggs and for pancakes mostly. When we fry veggies it's always olive oil but that has such a low smoke temp so you have to be careful and we usually use olive oil uncooked to add to things.

      I agree with you about the grossness of restaurants. I do believe that used cooking oil is not hazardous and is completely biodegradable.

      Mix into animal feeds. Dump on the ground. Put into empty bottle and drop off at the dump. Burn as home heating. Or how about just dont buy it then never a issue. I fry grilled cheese, french toast, home fries, eggs etc in bacon fat. It all gets used up. Vegi oil crap i just pour into a empty bottle. Use like a water bottle per year so not too concerned. Those that use gallons per week should drink it to dispose of safely.

    You got my opiniion. Olive oil is mostly fake, coconut oil is fine, 95% saturated fat. Butter I will eat anytime. Ghee is fine and I don't know why you're afraid of Lard, duck fat, beef fat, in fact all animal fats that our grand parents have used for thousands of years before oils were ever thought up.

    I have nothing against coconut oil with the exception of the fact that I'm allergic to it. I am surprised however that you avoided the fats that people have used for thousands of years, the animal fat that we use to cook with. The meat fats, lard and tallow. What are you afraid of?

      Coconut oil is 95% saturated fat and olive oil is 17% saturated fat where as lard is 45% saturated fat.
      There is no food, natural or other that doesn't have some from of saturated fat in it. You are sounding like a vegan which really astonishes me, as you should be better educated.
      At least while animal fats were used mostly, or all the time, we were all thin. We didn't get fat on them. We never got fat on animal foods at all. It's sugar and carbs as you should be well aware that made people fat and very sick.

      While I did question after seeing this comment why they were not, I then remembered the title of this video. Had it been titled “The Disturbing Truth about eating Cooking FATS” and animal fats not covered I would also be very concerned/shocked at the lack of this.. but This video is about OILS. While video broke each oil up by their fats.. it is in fact about oils, not fats.
      I would love to see a video covering how animal fats compare to that of oils. Is there a heath difference between them (Even between that of Beef vs pork or poultry)? In the video they did mention with butters or saturated fats the quality all along the food chain resulted in a change of health benefits. Is it the same with animal fats? I read or heard someplace and I honestly believe it, that not all macronutrients are created equal.

      @@stephenleaf3848 Well as I stated a few feeks ago, I have nothing against coconut oil and it's the highest of all fats in saturated fat, in fact, it's about 95% saturated fat where as butter is about 55% and lard is about 45%. I only wish I could coconut oil as I think it's pretty good. people in the tropics used it for a long time before they got the western diet and got fat.
      There are an awful lot of people that believe natural food is the only way to go and seed oils and sugar don't belong in our diet.

    Thanks for this video and especially for the vindication of coconut oil, which was vilified at the advent of the soybean oil. In the 70's and early 80's they killed by spraying lot of the coconut tree in Jamaica, under the ptetex of killing marijuana plants. Our coconut industry has never recovered to its glory days. I never trusted their vegetable oils and tried to avoid them. More power to the coconut oil. ❤❤

      There is more olive oil on the market than is ever grown. The experts can't tell the real stuff from the mixed and the outright fake. Once in a green bottle who questions it's validity. It's so easy to colour and flavour anything now, even oil. As you no doubt are aware how easy it is to make garlic butter.

    No mention of my favourite cooking oils: Macadamia and ricebran. They both have high smoke points. I also use ghee for cooking, and won't allow any form of margarine (reprocessed sump oil!) in my kitchen.

    There are populations in France that have very high saturated fat in their diet, but don't have significant heart disease.     I don't eat a lot of processed food and do not over fry or saturate my food. I also only use a small amount of any oil once or butter. I use a lot of olive oil. You can bake with olive oil, if you use a mild one. I have never found my cooking oils have gone rancid....I assume that is because I never keep them in bright light and my kitchen has a stone floor, so it often cool. All food if mishandled, badly cooked or badly stored is potentially bad for you.
    Transfats are banned in the UK and cooking oils are subjected to high quality controls. Once used cooking oils in catering, are often turned into bio fuel in the UK.
    You can cook bacon in its own fat.

    Very useful if you've got deep pockets. There's a reason people who aren't too well off financially (and that's a large part of the population now) buy refined vegetable oils. Butter, ghee, virgin olive and coconut oil have soared in price since the Covid fiasco a couple of years back. I paid £5.10 for a 500ml bottle of Napolina EV olive oil last week, weigh that against £1.85 for a litre of vegetable oil or £2.15 for the same volume sunflower oil. It isn't rocket science to realise which one those in a lower income bracket will go for.
    Until you can make the 'good' things affordable to the plebs, poorer people are destined to suffer poorer health.

    Coconut oil increases cholesterol. I am from the South West of India where coconut oil is traditionally used for cooking. My cholesterol was very high. I replaced coconut oil with cold pressed canola oil and cold pressed sunflower oil. Within 1 5 months my total cholesterol is within limits and LDL is a little higher than normal.

    It's silly to think coconut oil can be a match to extra virgin olive oil. Many Mediterranean countries top the ranks in life expectancy and over 100 people. In the tropical countries, sadly, people live much less. How could you compare cardiovascular diseases which increase over time and conclude coconut oil is the best. It's like saying any tropical fruit is healthier than apples. Let me point out the Mediterranean countries are the less rich in Europe so they live longer not because of the money but essentially because of the Mediterranean diet

    15 years ago a heart surgeon asked whether I consumed a great deal of coconut oil, I did not.
    Soon after my surgery, I have been consuming coconut oil daily, along with butter, ghee and EVOO only. I was never a fan of margarine or Becel for that matter.
    So far so good.

    I was under the impression that we digested our food. This presenter seems to bypass the whole digestive system, as though people were shooting these evil oils up. Note that all of us have eaten hundreds of gallons of these evil vegetable oils.

      And the rates of disease have gone up, not down, since their inclusion in our diet. Our bodies are digesting the oil extracting Omega 3 and 6. Seed oils have a pretty poor ratio of these with too many Omega 6 fatty acids compared to very little (often none at all) Omega 3.

      @@jg5755 Blaming oils for the mess is a bit of an exaggeration. In fact its not the oils, its the processing which kills. Naked food (processed) is the issue. It's done because it is far more profitable to strip the car so to speak. Fresh Pressed oil in moderation is very safe. Consuming rancid oil stuffs is not.

    Oh my goodness. There is the nutritional drink called OWYN.
    They have sunflower and sapphire oil in there along with flaxseed oil. They have a whole write up article on how those or omega threes and very few omega sixes and they’re not going to hurt you. They’re in the product. Now I just ordered some would you please tell me if that was a dumb idea this is ridiculous. Now I never can have any nutrition drinks because of that help please tell me the answer.

      @joolz5747 I think author HeartDiseaseCode gave you a good official answer that they can give as any products in the market has companies which may sue others especially when you are another public entity(like the author of this youtube channel) for making detrimental remarks. But as a fellow viewer, considering you make the effort to purchase that supposedly nutritional drink for your health, you must be health conscious. Flaxseed oil is higher in Omega-3 fatty acid, Omega-3 fatty acid is what is good, Sunflower oil has mono-unsaturated & poly-unsaturated but is much cheaper, there is no such oil naturally known as Sapphire oil, I guess it must be another product name by that manufacturer. Your nutritional drink sound oily, we do not need to consume excessive amounts of oil if you are already eating a healthy balanced diet, eg. Cold-water fish like Salmon which are high in Omega-3 fatty acids. If you truly desire healthy, my advice is when possible opt to consume more naturally available foods(fish & chicken & brown rice etc. sort of food you must cook yourself where you can choose to cook in a healthy way of cooking, steam, boil instead of deep-frying, or stir-frying with less oil), do avoid highly processed, ready-to-eat foods, which tend to have lots of flavoring added or blended in to make it taste nicd for you. The most traditional readily available source of quality healthy Omega-3 fatty acids comes from Extra Virgin Olive Oil, if you wish to drink some processed high Omega-3 fatty, oily drink for health, I would recommend taking a spoonful of Extra Virgin Olive Oil mix in your salads or food or even right from the spoon over that nutrition drink which is probably a more highly processed product compare to Extra Virgin Olive Oil. We do need to eat fats in our diet but we really don't need to eat so much additional oils if we are already eating a healthy balanced diet. & reducing your carbohydrates intake, especially your sugars helps, reducing the percentage of carbohydrates in your diet while still ensuring you have sufficient caloric intake usually improve health.

    Here's the problem with this video:
    It shows no randomized controlled trials (RCTs), which is the gold standard in clinical research.
    In vitro studies, animal experiments and observational studies are relatively weak compared to RCTs.
    There is a video by "Nutrition Made Simple!" called: "THIS is what Canola Oil does to Your Body (the EVIDENCE no one shows!!!)"
    Here are the key takeaways:
    Glucose Metabolism: Canola oil doesn't seem to have a negative impact on glucose metabolism. Studies have shown no significant effect on fasting glucose, and some even found improvements in fasting insulin and insulin resistance.

The wealthy may afford to buy them for their daily cooking those living in the lower income bracket simply cannot afford them. The latter is left with no choice but to purchase 'vegetable oils' which are cheap and in abundance for their daily cooking. Hence, the 'good' cooking oils mentioned are simply not for everyone.

    I have known this for years and continue to try to convince family members that these oils we may have grew up on,are no good. One of the main reasons why I started studying nutrition, early in life. Was watching my family members, including my mother died of heart disease in multiple cardiovascular surgeries really hit home. Recently, my older brother had to have open heart surgery in his late 40s. so it’s a cause close to my heart. And let’s not get into the fast food that’s in the market. They call me the food police. I just try to let them know you can still enjoy food. I just have to learn what has the best nutrition for the body and the choice we make it be beneficial or have a negative impact on our health.Thanks for sharing.

    Regarding high temperature - I use olive oil for our deep-fryer and have done for a year now since the horrors of vegetable oild became apparent! And the quality of the chips I cook in the oil, at high temperature, is actually better than sunflower or rape oil, I have found.

      There's far too much olive oil in the supermarkets. Even the experts can't tell the real stuff from the mixed and the downright fake. It's so easy these days to colour and flavour something, also; once in a green bottle, who is going to see it.

      You are alive and healthy and that is great news. I knew a women who smoked heavily into her late 80’s. Unfortunately that does not mean cigarettes are safe. Rather what we know is the likelihood of you expiring early is greatly increased the more you smoke. Evidence shows as that although you may live to a ripe old age, and I hope you do, your chances of making 80 would be improved if you cut out saturated vegetable oils now. The evidence is compelling, it’s your choice.

    Avocado oil. As good as olive oil, but high smoke point.

    the human body has problems because it is not used properly, where the human body is designed to keep moving, and nowadays many people are sick because they move a little, if you want to be healthy forget about motorized vehicles switch to riding bicycles, riding horses, or walking, even where you are visit it very far away, if you move your body like people before the industrial revolution then your body will be healthy and can eat whatever you want, even if it's cooking oil or fat.

    This had some important information I wanted. I ever heard it as it was constantly teased to be 'soon'. You could have told us what was dangerous and what was good upfront, but chose to try and keep the audience around to the end to make more money with the video.

    So correct me if wrong: If I grow sunflower to make cooking oil its bad? Even in the case when its done few days before using it?

    Also beef tallow and lard are good and temperature stable fats. They are healthy contrary to mainstream belief.

    When i was coming up in the world, my mother was using Lard and to this day, i continue such process.
