    FOR ANYONE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT , you coat the board with a film of rosin , apply voltage to the board/circuit , the short will heat up and create a spot on the board . Cheap way of finding a short . Sometimes very useful! Ty for sharing!

      @@johnathanfowlds7587 the vapor is actually rosin it’s used as a flux to help solder flow in between two connections, in room temperature it feels almost like rock or hard candy, but when it heats up it turns to a liquid which aids in the flow of solder
      Rosin by its self is not electricity conductive
      this guy took it a step further and turned it to vapor and covered the board in it, when the vapor cooled it became almost like a dust coating on top of the board
      when he ran a current threw, the heat generated from the short melted the rosin in that area, allowing him to find exactly what’s causing the problem
      This technique is used in all sorts of stuff, dentists have a blue tablet that they’ll have you chew on, and under UV light it’ll make plaque glow, allowing them to find where you haven’t been brushing well
      Doctor have a similar thing with blood, they’ll put a contrast in your blood and it’ll show problem areas in an X-Ray
      Engineers will use a dye to color metal parts and that dye (or sometimes just a sharpie) will rub off in areas that are make to much contact, and will stay on the material in places that aren’t making enough contact, one scenario for this is mating two vary high tolerance parts together to make a seal; like valves in an engine
      It’s all for quick identification of a problem and it’s a really neat practice

    • @roughshaf7321
      @roughshaf7321 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@charmio I'm pretty sure there's no water mixed with alcohol(I'm talking about rubbing alcohol/Isopropyl) but I could be wrong. Also, it's a phone/laptop motherboard and the highest voltages there would be around 30, so no sparks to ignite. Besides, I've seen this trick on Louis Rossmann, he said it worked just fine if you couldn't afford a Thermal Camera

    • @charmio
      @charmio 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@roughshaf7321 True, you're right that IPA is available at 100%. Even so, if left open to air it rapidly absorbs moisture until it reaches an equilibrium of 65% IPA to 35% water. And I do mean rapidly! One study suggested an open container gains 7% water in as little as 15 minutes.
      You can test your IPA by seeing if it dissolves table salt.
      I know from experience that you can ignite it with a lab power supply too (I was bored one day). From memory the supply was set at 12v and it took a few sparks but ignited easily enough. The size of the sparks are determined by the current supplied (in practice the important factors are the output capacitance of the supply and the voltage it's set too).
      If you really want to use this technique then I'd recommend connecting power first and then spraying the alcohol. Also set your supply to 0.8v, if you're looking for a short then this is higher than the supply will provide anyway.
      With that all said, while it can work I wouldn't try this on anything high value.

    In the laptop world the method of putting 1v through the board has a 50/50 chance of killing the cpu because the order in which cpu receives it’s power is wrong. I think it’s the same for a phone board. So the more traditional way of powering up the board normally and measuring the resistances and voltages across the board is safer imo.

      What part don't you understand?
      1) Was looking for a short circuit.
      2) Was working on a circuit board.
      3) Applied a layer of rosin to circuit board.
      4) Supplied the board with power and the short created heat, subsequently melting the rosin and giving away the location of the short circuit.
      5) The culprit was a surface mount fuse.
