Xbox is the top publisher on PSX/Xbox/Windows Store and among the top publishers on Steam/iOS/Android. And in a year or two it will be the top 3P publisher on Switch most likely. It ships way more games than the competition does and even has plenty of exclusives (for those that care) despite purportedly not having any (Palworld was 8 month exclusive, Hellblade 2, AoM, ARA, Shattered Space, FlightSim, Stalker, Indy for 2024 and next year South of Midnight, Clockwork Revolution, Fable, Replaced and Avowed for 2025, plus some others most likely). They have half a *billion* ppl choosing to spend their time and money playing Xbox 1P games every single month. Their MAU grew from 90mil->100mil->112mil->120mil before Zenimax put any games out under their label. Then when they finally did so starting last year, Xbox MAU went from 120mil->150mil the quarter of Starfield's release. Upon buying ABK, it grew another +356mil to north of 500mil. They have record high numbers of active Xbox consoles each month, record engagement on said consoles too. Most importantly for Xbox as a business, it is set to top $25bil in revenue this FY and likely passes PSX in the subsequent year wrt revenues. Since Xbox already makes much more profit than PSX does, that gap will also grow wider. I can't imagine having dramatically more consumers picking your products, driving record userbase growth and generating industry leading cash flow while dominating the ecosystems of your rivals as being anything but a wild success.
@Pulverizer2000 I mean it serves its purpose Nintendo handhelds aren't very expensive & have a large catalogue of child friendly games, no kid needs a $600+ handheld, kids don't need access to a bazillion games, most of their time should be spent in school & outside.
Okay, so let's compare both PlayStation and Xbox FIRST PARTY coming up in 2025 and 2026.... You ready???? PlayStation first party: Death Stranding 2 Ghost of Yōtei Astro Bot (2024 title, looks fun like Mario) MLB 2025 (Title also available on Xbox at the same time) Something from Insomniac in 2025/2026 Sony Santa Monica's next game 2026? Xbox first party: Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 (Title also available on PlayStation at the same time) Indiana Jones (Timed Exclusive) but Xbox first party still DOOM - The DARK AGES (on Xbox and PlayStation at the same time) Avowed (looks really amazing) South of Midnight (looks very fun) Gears Emergence Day (looks amazing and said to be out sometime in 2025) Fable (Two EPIC Western RPG's out in the same year) Forza Horizon 6 (2025 or 2026 title) Call of Duty 2025 Perfect Dark (2026 title most likely) Elder Scrolls 6 (2026 title at the earliest) State of Decay 3 (2026 title) The Outer Worlds 2 (2026 title) Clockwork Revolution (2026 title) Call of Duty 2026 SO NOW TELL ME WHICH CONSOLE YOU WOULD RATHER BUY WHILE BEING HONEST WITH YOURSELF. PEOPLE WILL DRONE ON HOW ALL THESE GAMES WILL COME TO PLAYSTATION AND I WOULD SAY NO THEY WON'T. BLADE WILL AND INDIANA JONES AND DOOM AND THE CALL OF DUTY GAMES, BUT NO, THE REST ARE EXCLUSIVE GAMES. I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH BUYING AN XBOX AND I HAVE NO BUYER REMORSE, BUT PLAYSTATION GAMES SUCK RIGHT NOW. ONE GOOD GAME A YEAR ISN'T A GOOD THING.
@Docwiz2 I don't think you cried enough. Write a couple more comments and let it out. Mental case. This is why people make fun of Xbox fanboys. You are literally out of your minds.
Glad someone who Destin actually had to engage with finally pushed back on this miracle handheld idea. Even the pinnacle of what he's suggesting is just a more Xbox focused ROG Ally that wouldnt be out before the ROG Ally 2...
I mean it is. They have more console users than ever. More players in general than ever if you’re including pc and cloud. The cloud experience is just going to keep getting better and better. Then all that expanding(fire sticks, tv, phones, tablets, etc) is going to have them raking in even more money than they already are
But isn't Phil Spencer just became CEO of Xbox? And also it would take a while build it back up after the Xbox one era plus working on building Gamepass too
I guess Xbox games being top sellers is not good for you. Adding millions of more gamepass subs is not good. You’re right, I guess not everyone can do what Sony does. Lose billions of dollars, biggest game failures in history. No good games…. lol ya right
Stop lying, you don't "own" them. You bought a license to play them. There is a difference.

10 straight years of PlayStation leading the industry with consecutive Game awards nominees is a sign that Xbox just needs to focus on making great games. Not ads, not cloud, not launching games everywhere. PlayStation has quality that's what gamers want
They've been butchering many of their great games with studios that now lack the talent. So no system seller equals piss poor sales and they seem to not want to address this 🤷🏻♂️
And now they are doing remasters. Or remasters of remasters. Or sequels to existing IP. They took a risk with Concord, a new IP and got burnt bad. So don't expect future risk taking and expect Sony playing it safe and more remasters if existing properties. Microsoft are innovating. Sony are not
@@shifterzx lol Microsft is innovating like the piss poor launch of Flight sim and Stalker 2 you can't make this shit up xbox fanboys are living in dellusion!
This will FINALLY make me buy any games that aren’t Sony games on Xbox. After sticking with PlayStation since 1996. Making us able to play the games on anything is awesome. I don’t understand why people are upset. This is the only time I will have ever only bought from Microsoft all multi system games.
Indiana Jones going to Playstation was obvious. It's not a Microsoft IP and you can be sure using that IP cost a stack of money and that locking out millions of customers over the brand of plastic they own was a dumb idea
@@jugulator95 😂 ok first off, older Spiderman games are on Xbox. Just not the current insomniac ones. Now as for the current Spiderman games. The reason they are not on Xbox is purely because Sony didn’t want to. Not only did Sony pay Disney over 600 million to use any marvel characters. They also pay Disney 50 percent of all profits, and if they don’t meet the deadline/sales numbers set by Disney. They have to pay millions in fines to Disney. Also, Disney is allowed to break the contract whenever they want with no blow back, Sony cannot. 😂 this is why Spiderman is not on Xbox, Sony was dumb enough to sign that contract. Hence why Indiana Jones will be multi plat. Microsoft is not as stupid as Sony. Exclusives don’t mean anything anymore, these ponies don’t get it. Even though Spiderman 2 sold like 10 million, they still did not make a profit. Hence why they canceled the Spiderman 2 DLC & why Sony dropped it on PC fast.
Bigger more important question. How will this actually benefit people in the Xbox ecosystem? Because it’s seems Xbox’s “set up for success” moves only benefits shareholders.
you realize they need to make money to make games right? you realize it takes money for day one gamepass and all the other games? Your question is beyond ignorant.
@@aggressiveoatmealmemes6881 having access to your games everywhere is the definition of benefiting the user, not having to buy a console and be locked into an ecosystem benefits users. da one release on steam and PlayStation benefits users. the only user it doesn't benefit is console warriors.
@@aggressiveoatmealmemes6881 - Nonetheless, Sony continues to close studios. CONCORD's massive failure, as well as the BUNGIE catastrophe, did not help matters. GamePass is a tremendous benefit for many individuals. It allows consumers to save a lot of money on games while still having access to them from almost anywhere and on any device.
Thing is, when Xbox lose third party support for the hardware, and it will happen if they do everything except producing quality first party game, they are gone. It's sad to say it, but is true.
Doubtful that will be the case at this point. They're making moves that will ensure their success when everyone else is forced to make the same pivot or fold under instead.
@chrisj320ac3 I don't think so. The industry is already set. How much time left until the Xbox hardware base is small enough to just don't justify release you're game there? Nobody invest in make a game to a platform with no sales/users. I switch to Xbox this generation, but comeback to PS because it's concerning to think about the future of hardware and the future of third party support. It's a shame, because to me the Series X is much better machine than the PS5. But Microsoft needs to build a strong reputation with really good games to ensure a user base big enough to guarantee third party support and hardware production longevity.
@@martinezfacundodario Xbox Game pass is more popular on PC than console apparently. I moved from Xbox to PC (when I had enough of the lack of power on offer) Many go the other way as well, and prefer the ease of use of consoles vs PC. If they can build a solution that works to streamline the PC experience (even if just for Xbox App games) that'll be interesting.
@L4J4 yeah, game pass on PC is a much higher value. PC is the better step, but I don't like PC gaming. I agree about the Xbox app, the only problem I see there is that if you don't have hardware to imprint more value to the app, it quickly becomes a direct competition with Steam. And that's no good either. I also don't think that Microsoft acquisitions has been well though in the long run.
Xbox as a brand is evolving. There is no getting away from that. But being behind like this isn't doing them any favours. So I can understand this push for their games everywhere, on any devices, as Xbox is now doing their own thing. Mobile gaming (as much as some hate to admit) and handheld gaming is going gangbusters, and the industry is changing to adapt that. Now, I get the division for their new push. I get that. I dont like it either since I have invested my time in the Xbox platform between the Xbox 360 and the Series X. It devalues the console as a whole. There is no getting around ANY of that, no matter what anyone says. It's over. It's just now down to your preference on what platform you want to play on. That's what's happening. I am very curious to see how this goes for Microsoft. I can't tell how this is going to go. But for competition itself between PlayStation and Xbox, that ended already. It's a very weird time in the gaming industry. In my opinion, play on the platform you prefer. That way, everyone wins.
Playstation has over 4x the players on Black Ops 6, 82% PS and 18% of the console base on Xbox. If I had money at stake, I would use that as ammo to want Halo, Gears of War, and Fable on Playstation and the Switch successor if it can handle them.
@JeannieLove Knowing how far they could develop those games for the Series S, its not out of the realm of possibility for the next Switch. You could be onto something.
You’d have to be STUPID to think this is a bad idea. Being able to play on ANY platform is a winning strategy. I won’t buy through steam or anywhere else now. This is an awesome idea from them. People are clearly not business minded to think this is a bad idea. As a long time mostly Sony player (despite having pc and Xbox/nintendo) I will now only be buying multi platform games through Microsoft.
@@Jspence202this shows you don’t understand this well lol. No offense. I have always bought multi platform through Sony or steam but not now, now I’ll only buy Microsoft because I can play that same game on anything. My console, pc, my phone, my tablet, etc. that’s a win. That’s genius. You can do this with Sony but you have to buy a portal. I already have a tablet and phone. Plus kids today DONT use consoles. My kids don’t and their friends don’t either. Plus anyone with a brain can get game pass for $9 a month or so easily. I got a year for $90 recently.
Xbox needs to make interesting games that are exclusive to “them” whatever that means. Otherwise they should just go full third party and sell a prebuilt PC with Xbox branding.
@@shifterzx Their exclusives are the only thing keeping them alive. Doesn't matter if they come to PC later on. Most people don't wanna wait a year or two to play their favorite games/franchises.
I say it every time. Xbox have pushed gaming forward. Against Sony's wishes, they have been dragged kicking and screaming into modern day. Xbox wanted games to be cross platform, and sony had to eventually give in and allow it. Then gamepass forced Sony to overhaul and basically relaunch ps+. Then xbox put games on pc, and sony saw the money they were missing and they had to go that way too. Now they are starting to have day one games on ps+. Then in order to compete with play anywhere, they have decided to allow the PlayStation portal to be able to play games without needing to own a ps5. Backwards compatibility program pushed sony to offer their older games as well. Im not saying this to bash PlayStation. Im just pointing out xbox have pushed the industry forward in a lot of ways, while not abandoning the console experience for those who still want it.
Good points. Gamers (especially Playstation gamers) have a lot to be grateful to for Microsoft's inclusion in the gaming space. And yet so many of them appear to dream about Microsoft failing and Sony being a monopoly. It's weird
You are so wrong, dude. Sony had games on PC before. Have you ever heard of Everquest or Planetside? Playstation introduced PS Now years before Gamepass, Xbox copied them. PS1 games were backwards compatible with the PS2 long before Xbox was even a thing. Xbox hasn't done anything to push the industry forward. While Playstation brought VR to the masses without having to buy a really expensive PC and Sony introduced PSSR which is the first upscaler made exclusively for console.
Xbox has did nothing of the such. Pushing cross play isn't anything new. Pushing the industry forward is better technology ( dual sense) and making quality and better games. VR is pushing the industry forward. Not being able to cross play. The last of us 2 is pushing the industry forward with the most accessible game for people with disabilities. So stop the cap. Xbox has done nothing but ruin itself with bone head management
Xbox pushed cross platform because they were losing the console race, not because they care about consumers Xbox at one point wanted to sell you the same game twice so more people in your household would be allowed to play it Gamepass is revolutionary for sure, but it's impact on game development, standards for publishers and game quality should be analyzed further Games coming to PC is not a universal win, it is the most expensive platform and has a higher propencity to harbor cheaters
Can you guys do a 1hr podcast once per week? It’ll be one if not the only games podcast that will be insightful and smart with personalities ppl will like
Personality part I get. But insightful? And smart? Ehhh, not so much. After all, we talking about fanboys of arguably the most hated company in all of gaming. 👀
Especially if it's now a platform war and even Playstation agrees. Why else are they stopping 66% of the world from buying their games on PC to enforce a PSN requirement that's only supported in 33% of countries? Playstation sacrificing software sales for MAUs says everything anyone should need to know. Playstation already lost this generation of the new platform war. People just haven't figured it out yet. "Playstation's success should be measured in user counts, not hardware units sold" Kenichiro Yoshida - Sony CEO.

@@ImBackItsDad 🤣😂🤣 the stalker 2 devs literally said it won’t come to PlayStation. Yall don’t get tired of begging for Xbox games, while calling them trash. Go play yall remakes. Jesus Christ ponies
I believe Xbox fans are upset by the "This is an Xbox" ad, because not only does it follow some MS games that were released/announced for Playstation, it's that MS's multi-platform messaging only really started some years after the release of the Series consoles. The first time people officially heard about a change to MS's messaging on multi-platform was about halfway through the FTC/CMA case. So there were years following the release of the Series consoles that gamers believed Xbox 1st party games were going to be exclusive to Xbox in the console space. So people invested in an Xbox to play these games, only to find out they could've just bought a PS5 and played all of Sony's games, and Xbox games a bit later. So I think people feel they've wasted money on their Xbox when they could've just bought a PS5. They feel like they've been lied to out of their money. If this was the message when the Series consoles were released, I don't think people would be upset over this ad today for the reasons above.
XBox has struggled with console sales because they've lacked exclusives over the years. They're finally gett8nf regular game releases, and now they're going multiplatform. XBox keeps finding ways to step on rakes.
This literally makes no sense lmao. So you can access your Xbox games and gamepass on more places and your first thought is... gotta cancel Xbox now. I don't want more options, gotta be stuck on one specific piece of hardware for 8 years 🤣🤣
The PS5 Pro is not the concern for the Xbox handheld. The concern is the Switch 2. Having the Xbox handheld run Steam games would be a huge win even if the experience for Steam games isn't as seamless. The seamless part can be refined over time, but having the ability to run console games, PC games and streamed games all on the handheld will attract the hardcore gamers and at a minimum most others since it's still running all these games.
Nothing is gonna save Xbox the only thing is gonna save Xbox is fire Phil doe need hire a business men and he save the company but me a hardcore Xbox support I switch to PlayStation I was sick of their bs lied
Phil did not actually say Xbox wasn't able to compete in the console hw space. What he said was that the console space is not growing (for *all console brands*). Nintendo went from 150mil DS and 108mil Wii's to a combined 150mil Switch. That is a gigantic contraction of addressable consumers for them. PSX will be lucky to hit 100mil this cycle, which would be a 15-20mil unit contraction over the PS4 while Xbox likely will be 10mil or more below last gen itself. Even ignoring Switch, you still are looking at ~30mil fewer high-end consoles sold this cycle relative to last. PS2/Xbox/GC: 155+26+24=205mil 360/PS3: 90+90=180mil PS4/Xbone: 117+55=172mil PS5/X|S: 100+45=145mil And this is ignoring the fact that every cycle more and more ppl buy multiple brands of consoles, so the actual drop in total addressable individual consumers is even starker drops than above shows.
@@MrJoshuaAM Because GC was the last time they built a high-end console. After that they changed their target audience radically (hence the wild success of Wii).
1. Console sales aren’t growing because the price isn’t dropping such as in the past. 2. I will buy my first PlayStation instead of Xbox since the PlayStation is an XBox. 3. With the Gamepass price increase I dropped out of Ultimate so play everywhere doesn’t apply to everyone. 4. Microsoft won’t get revenue when I play PS exclusives. 5. MS should have subsidized Xbox to increase the base. See how it sells at $200.
I’m moving to Xbox pc app and steam pc app I’m done with the console drama I’m worried the next Xbox will be the last and then you will only be able to play your games through streaming game pass
if the xbox handheld doesn’t allow you to play both your PC games and Xbox console games (because Xbox 360/Xbox One/Xbox Series games are digital) then that would be a major disappointment because Microsoft literally owns BOTH Xbox and Windows. They can literally give you everything an Xbox and PC fan would want in a handheld.
The fact that the general consumers think Xbox is going away or that their digital licenses are in danger at all means it's already over. No consumer confidence plus gen z indifference means Xbox's fate as a third party publisher is all but assured. It sucks because I love the Series X, but even to someone like me I just think... maybe it's kinda not safe to keep buying anything on their store?
Console market-share isn't growing. That's true. The reason is gaming culture. Gaming culture is failing. The rise of smartphne gaming, cloud streaming, F2P, MTXs and all the other nonsense should have been suppressed and gate-kept. "Kids just want to play Roblox." Ya, because you just hand your kids a tablet instead of sitting down with them on the floor with your old NES. When my son's first game was Super Mario Bros. before he was one... And your son's first game was Cut the Rope on a phone at 3. I know where we lost.
@@RBFR01 - Well, that "garbage" (mobile) produces more than the sum of the PCs and consoles. Given that the mobile market is larger than the PC and console markets, would you not incorporate that as a source of additional revenue if your goal is to generate money? It's a very smart business move. For instance, COD Mobile has over a billion downloads on its own. Is there a console game with that? The combined total of all of them is not even close to that.
@isturbo1984 - While it's true that the console market share isn't growing as rapidly as other segments, it's important to recognize that gaming culture is evolving rather than failing. The rise of smartphone gaming, cloud streaming, free-to-play (F2P) models, and microtransactions (MTXs) reflects a broader and more inclusive gaming landscape. These innovations have made gaming more accessible to a wider audience, including those who may not have the means or interest to invest in traditional consoles. Furthermore, the popularity of games like Roblox demonstrates how imaginative and communal gaming is, appealing to younger audiences. These platforms foster community development, creativity, and teamwork-all of which are worthwhile endeavors in and of themselves. Even though playing vintage video games like Super Mario Bros. brings back fond memories, it's equally critical to accept the variety of methods that people play games nowadays. With contemporary consoles, smartphone games, or even cloud-based platforms, parents can still have meaningful gaming experiences with their kids. The secret is to strike a balance and value the various game genres that enhance people's lives and foster connections. In conclusion, the gaming industry is not in decline; rather, it is diversifying and expanding to accommodate new technology and audiences. Embracing this transition can result in a more diverse and inclusive gaming community.
@@Jagosix i just wanted to reply to one specific point you mead if thats alright. i'd be willing to concede on the idea console gaming isnt failing, rather evolving. if it werent for the fact the all of gaming seems to be failing. console users are being sacrificed. its not just net gain for pc and mobile users. console users are fleeing or aging out. that isnt an evolution, thats a shift. pc market will get stagnate eventually too. and then what? we all have to buy overpriced boutique hardware just to not play with underdeveloped pieces of crap for mainstream games? thats why the ps5 pro is 800 including tax and the stand. its a boutique item very few will buy. meanwhile microsoft is talking about "options, options, options." devaluing an option to force the market to buy another isnt an option.
It's Phil Spencer vs Herman Hulst. You just have to ask yourself whom do you think can do a better job at company public relations for their console fanbase. The next live update should be titled "The State of PlayStation".
The cloud stream the games you own should set a deadline for a mandatory access for upcoming games. Where they are gathering licenses for older games to add to the list - future games should just be guaranteed with the option
Totally agree, at some point they need to be making it mandatory or at least strongly encouraged to the point where it's at least a large majority of releases come day1. But even with their "play anywhere" is very limited. I want access to the same games on my xbox and even on cloud to be available on my PC. They've improved this to thr point where all gamepass releases that are on the PC Xbox app are then also natively in their store on both Xbox and PC stores, but not and even most new game releases in general are not on the MS store on PC, at least not at launch. That's a major issue.
Bungie is a perfect example of what’s happening to quality studios in the gaming industry. Sometimes you have a hit sometimes you have a miss, but here’s the catch a hit just keeps you going and you could be gone. Most of us can agree quality we would think they had money in the bank. They did not. Destin is wrong when he says it was because of mismanagement that implies that they weren’t managing their financial funds properly. Now you can argue that they didn’t make great content, but that’s not management. They were paying the bills and the problem is the bills were really high. It cost a lot of money to develop video game content way more money than it did when Destiny 2 even when you adjust for inflation. That was the problem. It was getting very expensive to make a game and when he made a hit it just barely kept you a float but when you missed the mark slightly, it could hurt if you missed the mark altogether it crippled the company and they could not recover. Look at what happened when Sony got a hold of them they said holy crap you’re a crippled Company. We can’t do much with this. They would have to pump so much. They said we’re going to do something different. Great talent to make some great shooter game and they said we can’t do that because it’s going to cost a ton of money and it’s going to take lots of time. Even when the game drops, let’s assume it’s Destiny 3 way off in the distant future think of how much money they would have to put into making that game. You’re gonna have to sell 10 million copies or more to break even. As soon as it drops, people are going to eat it up. You’re gonna have to have DLC ready to go 30 days after lunch 60 days after lunch that’s not easy to do because all of that cost money, and didn’t say it more expensive than ever to make video game content. That’s the problem developers are having at this level. It cost a lot of money to make a game way more money has to go towards making the game than ever before.
I actually sold my Xbox after the recent hardware and exclusive news. Been a customer since 2001. There is legitimately no reason not to go full PC now. Brand is dead.
28:20 I think most of the discourse about Sony acquiring From Software's parent company come from the fact that they are like the last major anime distributors that Sony doesn't own. So, they'll be monopolizing the anime market. I could be totally misinformed, but that's the situation as I've heard it.
Where is the revisionist history about ABK coming from? Bobby Kotick didn't want to sell abk, he was forced after MS offered and the share holders accepted. MS saved bobby from court battles and gave him a golden parachute but ABK was fine financially. CEO is obligated to present offers to the board.
I think Xbox can do both for the simple console player and the windows gaming pc player by introducing two modes for those types of players. If not, then people don’t just want to buy a device that’s just an handheld console Xbox when they’re already struggling to sell Xbox’s. I wouldn’t want to play Bethesda games vanilla also if I literally cannot mod the game even if I wanted to. if I wanted to play Fallout without mods, I would just stick to console. Myself I want a handheld device that gives me the most options.
The industry is no longer for "gamers"... it has evolved to be for "consumers." The super expensive stuff like Playstation Pro... is to milk the gamers. The dedicated gamers that supported gaming throughout the years are not the focus anymore. The changes are a reflection of that. They want to sell to more people beyond the gamers and welp... you cannot fault companies who want to make money for that... right?
Xbox gamers can do themselves a favor and just dump Xbox/Game pass. Better alternatives with PC/Steam Deck/Handheld gaming PCs, PS5 and Switch 2 They'll get all Xbox games AND their respective exclusives.
With regard the Steam issue - I disagree - I think as a user I am fine with there being limitations to the content I can access with Steam. It is no different to any selection of PS4 games that don’t work on the PS5 and the same for some of the 360 games that don’t work on my X Or with the Switch. We have a long history of understanding how that works. I think they should wholly embrace the openness of play anything you have on anything you want. Yes, again, there are limitations but at this point, if you are saying you don’t understand the message, you kind of don’t want to. We need to start growing up as users and as an industry. We can either have a rich future or we continue as we currently are which just ensures fragmentation which leads to loses, closures and the death of risk taking game ideas.
This is hilarious. Phil Spencer says "There will only be 4 games, don't see as a sign" to now "there won't be redlines" tells you how confident you should be an Xbox future or a handheld tbh. I'm doubtful it will exist. As for the console market not growing, all three platform holders went through a major turning point generation. Nintendo was Wii U, which basically bowed them out of traditional consoles into hybrid portable platform. Playstation was PS3, which they recovered midgen into two successful generations back to back. The Xbox had two terrible generations back to back with series X back to back. So there hasn't been growth because all three essentially had resets off a bad generation. But as shown, Nintendo is catching up to NDS, PS5 is often ahead of PS4 aligned, and Series X|S is selling worse than X1. So the Switch may surpass DS. PS5 has huge to slingshot past PS4 especially as its second half culminates and a massive industry driver touching down next year called GTA6. As for Playstation on PC, Playstation has dabbled in PC since PS1. They've dabbled in Cloud since 2014. All initiatives are to bring you back to Playstation at maximum or buy Playstation related at minimum. They've already reported back in 2023 that a third of Playstation 5 owners didn't have a PS4. So came from somewhere. And Just like MS is trying to Trojan horse into Steam, Apple, and Android, Playstation is trying to Trojan Horse PC. In fact, now that Portal can Stream Cloud if you have PS Plus Premium, the Portal has evolved from a Remote Player to Cloud Remote Player. So it's a Trojan horse that could persuade you to get a PS5 or Pro for the full, native experience. As for the Game Industry piece, the rationale makes sense honestly. It's not only the loss in sales for Xbox due to Game Pass cannibalizing sales on their own platform, it's also the costs to produce and market Call of Duty. You guys are thinking too much to 70/30 in general sense and taking those factors into thought. When Kotick arranged the higher split with Sony, PS got marketing rights and timed DLC. Since it no longer gets that, it's easy to assume why it would revert back to 70/30. So with all that in mind, it's easy to understand why the writer assumed CoD deal was more profitable for Sony Activision. The whole reason Sony continued the marketing relationship was under Xbox would be trying to compete with Playstation. But considering that Microsoft essentially threw in the towel, that's no longer necessary. And keeping in mind that Microsoft is bringing over Xbox titles with no redlines, PS becomes defacto console platform for everything. I don't think MS is ahead of the curve. It's just that Xbox isn't as important for Microsoft as PS is for Sony. PS generates ⅓ of Sony's revenue. Microsoft gaming is generating much more than Xbox's. So more like MS seen the future of Xbox. While COD gave GP a bump, it was too small to be relevant. But 87% of its US console sales were on Playstation. Lastly, as for PS Pro, it's not an indicator of PS6 Price. At most it'll be $600. Because Sony will eat some costs. And with MSno longer, there isn't enough pressure for them to immedive into PS6. And the profitability will grow even more as generation extends. If ya read this far, thanks for reading
Xbox will make anything but, a good game. Not a Starfield good, a God of War 2018 good. Just make a few in a row and people will come back. I hope the handhelds works for them.
I was a 360 gamer back then and jumped ship to pc in 2013, the real problem is we've literally had a decade without great games its honestly that simple. We waited and waited for Gears and Halo games and to be blunt they werent great at all, gears 4-5 halo 4-5-infinite, no great fable game that whole time, nothing. Sony really fucked them that generation because they did what the 360 did and provide fantastic games people actually want to buy and play.
Regarding the playstation games, I see Sony simply creating their own store that would not be compatible/available for future xbox devices to create a walled garden, in fact, there are already plans for it according to the insomniac leaks, I don't see Sony allowing that in any way even if that means their games will undoubtedly sell more
Another launcher for people to get upset about when the game is not on Steam. Some people outright refuse to put games in multiple libraries so Sony is sacrificing potential profit for exclusivity sake which is proving to not be good for profit margins. Sony would do better to take the L and put games on Steam day and date with the console
@@shifterzx they can still stay in Steam but just require their official Sony/Playstation account log in and possibly require a payment to have a PS+ subscription to be able ti play it, they could just make a new cheaper tier available exclusively for PC users just like how GamePass is cheapest on PC compared to Xbox consoles. So this way Sony can have their cake and eat it lol by still technically letting their games on PC's most popular store front Steam and allowing this hypothetical Xbox handheld to access and buy them, but Sony/Playstation are making extra bank from it.
Nominating a remake of a game really should be on a case by case basis. And I think if a remake is nominated, it should be top tea. Rem should not be able to be nominated if it doesn’t set the world on fire at least the gaming world, even if it doesn’t sell well. I say remake has a distinct advantage that a new game does not already has material to pull from. If you know, we’ve made a great game, let’s say 20 years ago and we can remake this game again and it will be great again argue it might not be fair because you had the answers to the test I’ll give you two examples SNES classics Link to the Padt and Crono Trigger. A remake of either of those games instantly sells like crazy instantly gets a 10 out of 10 most likely is it fair to give that remake game of the year because you literally sampled from something so great.
Only way is gamepass stays at a decent price is by playstation players paying $70 Xbox games released on playstation. If sales of Xbox games are good on playstation then it'll be like they are subsidising gamepass
Xbox fans should be worried because they have been lied too over and over,if phil said yes we are making a handheld, yes we are making a new console, why should people believe him after he lied so much, that's what most people i know are saying
Destin I want an Xbox handheld like everyone else, but I think you’re wrong about access to PlayStation games and how families will respond. Take my family for instance, I have nieces and nephews younger cousins who play video games somewhat guess what none of them know what Steam is. They don’t have a clue they know there’s an Xbox. There’s a PlayStation and the kid usually wants one or the other. Nobody’s thinking. Well, you know if you had a PC and then you had access to steam you could play PlayStation games. Families aren’t going that deep into the weeds. For us gamers we understand that concept we understand that idea, but the average family does not. The average kid 15 and under does not. That makes a Xbox handheld a difficult sell. I’m not saying they shouldn’t make one but understand it’s an uphill battle for them to get units out the door. You’re literally going to have to figure out a way to tell people you can play anything here. Now here is something that is interesting. Access to your games that you own. Remember a few years back when all of the movie purchasing services came together and said here’s an app MoviesAnywhere what’s the name of it and you could link all of your other purchasing services together so that if you bought a movie in one location, you could watch it here. You didn’t have to worry about let me go over to prime and watch that movie and let me go over to, the Sony app and watch the movie I purchased purchased made found in one application. We need to get to that point in gaming. If I buy a game on a PlayStation, I would like to be able to pick up a handheld and just play that game I don’t wanna have to sign into a Sony account or Steam account I literally want to turn it on and see the game. That’s the hard part. Because none of these first party manufacturers are going to want to make it easy for you to access your library on a different platform. They will not be able to avoid it, but they won’t make it easy. Not until they have to not until they get to the point where the movie industry did where people stop purchasing stuff and say this makes no sense. Why can’t I just buy a movie and watch it? Gaming is different. We don’t have nearly as many first party, developers and access points as the movie industry did so you can expect everything to just come tumbling down. Everybody’s going to put up their walls everybody’s going to put up their barriers of entry and they’re just going to wait and see what happens.
Not everyone but alot in this comment section, me personally don't care for any xbox hardware as I already have hardware that can do all that... Give me games!
Even a well recieved and objectively fun game like 'Astrobot' couldn't get 2 million people to buy it when there are over 60 million PS5 out there. Playstation owners don't even buy their own exclusives. They are getting disappointing sales and profit from everything they release. I mean they still make money - eventually, but investors (who they really work for) won't be pleased
@@craigsampson3386business won't see it that way. They see 65 million consoles and only 2 million in sales (in the initial months after release). That's 3% on a game that wasn't selling at the usual high price and got rave reviews. 3%. That's terrible. Hopefully for Sony's sake that number goes higher but it seems like it will take bargain bin prices to do so. In fact all of its exclusives are suffering from people not buying them in large enough numbers. Especially their AAA games costing hundreds of millions and many years to make. It's not viable any longer. Hence the cheap remasters of existing games going forward it seems
@@craigsampson3386 you're missing the point here. It's not about Astroboy having low sales. It's about ps5, a 60M+ install-base console, having game sale figures that low. That's like having a million subs on TH-cam but your videos only and barely rake a thousand views.
Most Hardware producers lose money when making their consoles on the front end of their lifecycle, and everyone who wanted to own them already bought them by the time you get to the back end of their lifecycle when they start making a profit; the point has always been to draw customers to their ecosystem to make the @30% markup on 3rd party or @100% on first party games. Since the future is all digital cloud based market the winner will be the company that owns all the games or owns the servers that will host the cloud based gaming market. Microsoft is placing themselves now where the future will soon be, since they are buying up all the gaming studios and have a major share of the global cloud based servers.
Yup, a crappy game company that has done more bad than good after the 360 is buying everything up. An incredible future awaits us gamers. That was sarcasm.

cloud gaming is not aimed at the 'enthusiast market' with dedicated hardware. it's aimed at the billions of people who don't care that it lower quality. Just like movie and music streaming.
Its technically impossible to be as good let alone better than console/PC gaming... the way the technologies work just prohibit it, so it will never be the dominant way to game ever. Having said that though a model similar to Google's Stadia could eventually work as a supplementary service along side native console/PC gaming _IF_ internet becomes fast enough, reliable enough, more widely available and cheap enough for the masses which we're still a long way away from.

Idk. Xbox as a brand feels so unexciting to me now. It feels more like a platform (which may be their intent) but it doesn’t feel exciting. When a pc game drops nobody gets excited for steam. They get excited for the game that they will play on steam. That’s where Xbox is for me now. I get excited for the game sure but it doesn’t move the needle for me when it comes to the Xbox brand
That’s exactly how I feel, I used to feel excited and happy / proud to be on xbox but now the brand just continues to become irrelevant because of the stupid actions of Microsoft and Xbox leadership
Only people you hear crying are the console old players that don't want to change. It was going to happen regardless. Sony just finding out now, that is why they are behind on this front.
xbox just comfortably beat Playstion in earnings, MAU and growth last quarter. They literally just beat sony's dominance with the lowest selling console and no exclusives.
@@spazco8669 See? This clearly shows Xbox is ditching the console market. Even the fanboys cant defend it anymore. Got em talking like they in a stock market meeting, instead of gaming 👀🤣🤣👍😎
At least this isn't as bad as Jaguar 's new rebranding...but it's close. I want to play on dedicated hardware. I love my console and I'm up for the handheld. I have no interest in playing Xbox on my phone...none.
Dear lord Xbox fanboys, it's not that hard to understand. Even for you... Destin. Now Sony gets a 30% cut instead of a 20% cut. Now Sony doesn't have to pay for any marketing. So they make more money than they did before. AND... even though Microsoft gets a 70% cut of all the COD games sold.... Sony DID NOT SPEND ALMOST $70 BILLION TO GET THAT 30% CUT. So Sony makes more money, spends nothing (no marketing) and gets all the cash while doing nothing. Microsoft had to spend $70 billion to get the 70% cut. So yeah, overall Sony is doing better. 87% of the COD sales are on PlayStation and Sony gets all the cash (30%) while doing nothing and while NOT spending anything on Activision.
Yes yes. Sony makes so much money from 30% that they literally begged to stopped it from happening by blocking (attempt) the acquisition. This is well documented. Even the leaked Sony documents from the FTC trials proves this further. That gain from the 30% and not having to shoulder costs aint the flex you think it is. This is what you need to piece together in your head. Ps5 Pro was supposed to be $500 and the base lowering down. However, two things happened: 1.) They lost that pre-acquisition COD money. 2.) Concord was supposed to cover for that loss and be the de facto replacement. But ae all know what happened to Concord. Because of this they are forced to release it at $700 to make up. Now is that Sony making so much money from that 30% now? They are hurting.
@dustin steam makes deal with every publishers they sale games for down to the letter and if say steam now sales games on Xbox handheld PlayStation can block it. PlayStation just make steam do a new contract to block Xbox but PlayStation has the right to say no our games are not coming to xbox handheld.
Will? they just comfortably beat playstion in income, MAU and growth last quarter. Lowest selling console, no exclusives. Meanwhile nintendo with the highest selling console backed by world class exclusives doesn't even come close to xbox's income. Not fanboying or saying xbox is better but it's hard to argue that console numbers and exclusives drive the market when they clearly do not. I guarantee There are talks going on a Sony right now about doing the exact same by putting their store on everything. There is simply too much money on the table.

Right. Like Phil said Xbox was set up for success in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. Success! 🙄
💯

Gears Emergence Day (looks amazing and said to be out sometime in 2025)
Fable (Two EPIC Western RPG's out in the same year)
Forza Horizon 6 (2025 or 2026 title)
Call of Duty 2025

@@jugulator95 😂 ok first off, older Spiderman games are on Xbox. Just not the current insomniac ones. Now as for the current Spiderman games.

Time for the Xbox brand to become a PC then
@chrisj320ac3 I don't think so.
I moved from Xbox to PC (when I had enough of the lack of power on offer)
Many go the other way as well, and prefer the ease of use of consoles vs PC.

Xbox pushed cross platform because they were losing the console race, not because they care about consumers
Xbox at one point wanted to sell you the same game twice so more people in your household would be allowed to play it
Gamepass is revolutionary for sure, but it's impact on game development, standards for publishers and game quality should be analyzed further
Games coming to PC is not a universal win, it is the most expensive platform and has a higher propencity to harbor cheaters
Yeah crossplay is great… 🤮

@@Roach22 THANK YOU. I'm glad somebody said it.
XBox has struggled with console sales because they've lacked exclusives over the years.
They're finally gett8nf regular game releases, and now they're going multiplatform.
XBox keeps finding ways to step on rakes.
Time to leave Xbox/Gamepass.
Just make good games how hard is that ?
No new games will ever be as good as Halo 3.
PS2/Xbox/GC: 155+26+24=205mil
360/PS3: 90+90=180mil
PS4/Xbone: 117+55=172mil
PS5/X|S: 100+45=145mil
And this is ignoring the fact that every cycle more and more ppl buy multiple brands of consoles, so the actual drop in total addressable individual consumers is even starker drops than above shows.
facts. the console market has been stagnate for a decade. Yet most games media are not reporting on how bad it is for the console market.
Why did you include the GameCube but none of the other Nintendo consoles?

I’m moving to Xbox pc app and steam pc app
I’m done with the console drama
I’m worried the next Xbox will be the last and then you will only be able to play your games through streaming game pass
if the xbox handheld doesn’t allow you to play both your PC games and Xbox console games (because Xbox 360/Xbox One/Xbox Series games are digital) then that would be a major disappointment because Microsoft literally owns BOTH Xbox and Windows.
Phone gaming is complete garbage and always will be.

Most Twitter users are 'always upset' regardless of the subject. 🧐
It cost a lot of money to make a game way more money has to go towards making the game than ever before.
when they say the are building the worlds most powerful console their talking about the next gen 2 years from now it'll be on par with ps6
I actually sold my Xbox after the recent hardware and exclusive news. Been a customer since 2001.
There is legitimately no reason not to go full PC now. Brand is dead.
Guys, it doesn’t need to run steam. GeForce now and Xbox have a partnership.
If steam is on Xbox, that would change everything.
You really don’t need an Xbox anymore, but it’s there if you want one.
How many people consider themselves fans of Netflix? Xbox is netflix for gaming now.
Why would anyone get excited?
They want to sell to more people beyond the gamers and welp... you cannot fault companies who want to make money for that... right?
I feel like mw3 zombies was more fun than bo6 zombies. Bo6 zombies feels like more of the same.
Xbox gamers can do themselves a favor and just dump Xbox/Game pass.
Better alternatives with PC/Steam Deck/Handheld gaming PCs, PS5 and Switch 2
They'll get all Xbox games AND their respective exclusives.
It's pretty much Sega by the look of that commercial.
No, it will not! Xbox doesn't know what success is and never will!

If you know, we’ve made a great game, let’s say 20 years ago and we can remake this game again and it will be great again argue it might not be fair because you had the answers to the test
I’ll give you two examples SNES classics Link to the Padt and Crono Trigger. A remake of either of those games instantly sells like crazy instantly gets a 10 out of 10 most likely is it fair to give that remake game of the year because you literally sampled from something so great.

Microsoft have to make it so the handheld plays pc games and therefore any playstation pc games will be playable.
Only way is gamepass stays at a decent price is by playstation players paying $70 Xbox games released on playstation. If sales of Xbox games are good on playstation then it'll be like they are subsidising gamepass
They need to add more games to the play your own games.

Its technically impossible to be as good let alone better than console/PC gaming... the way the technologies work just prohibit it, so it will never be the dominant way to game ever.

However, two things happened:
1.) They lost that pre-acquisition COD money.
That’s fine pc players also don’t care about PlayStations games.
This reminds me of the end credits of ferris beuller
Xbox got games, sony only got console 😂
U can’t play PlayStation games on Xbox
Destin, Software sales on console is growing faster than PC?
Will? they just comfortably beat playstion in income, MAU and growth last quarter.
Why should a gamer care about the companies financial success? The quality of games should be top priority
@@player2drago26 becuase companies who aren't financially successful go broke and then they don't make any games. That's how business works.
52:09 the disgust is visible 😂😂😂😂
