My chemical romance does write their own stuff the singer (Gerard Way) was ironically the first boy casted as Peter Pan in his grade school so he realised he could sing. They used two different long term drummers that were both great. Ray Toro is the guy that writes the solos. At the time the singer believed he was the best he knew in his opinion. Frank Iero loves old school punk raised by a family of performers and musicians, so most of the guitar verses are written by Frank. And crazy enough the singers baby brother is the bassist.

Gerard is also a comic book writer. When MCR disbanded he focused more on that (it is also what he went to school for) - you can tell from every MCR album that there is a story that goes with it. They all play like little comic books.

MCR and a lot of the "Emo" bands at the time (MCR/Panic! at the Disco/Fallout boy are considered the holy trifecta of Emo) opened up, through music and brute force really, a widescale, generation spanning dialog about mental health. It touched teenagers at the time the deepest, but as a now 48 year old mom, it touched a lot of us Gen-X adults too. They're on tour right now and still sound as good. I love you two so much btw

One thing that's really struck me on coming back to MCR's videos is that THIS was their first major-label single. Think about how much work and how much money must've gone into shooting a video that looks like a legitimate movie trailer for an '80s coming-of-age film. The label KNEW they had something special with these guys and put their full support behind them, and it paid off! "Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge," "The Black Parade," and "Danger Days" were all massively successful and received tons of critical acclaim! They would've succeeded on their own merits without being able to create such cinematic music videos (go watch "The Ghost of You" or the two-part story told in the videos for "Na Na Na" and "SING!" to see even more amazing examples of how they were able to fully embrace their theatrical side and make mini-films for their songs... seriously, if you get to "Na Na Na" and "SING!" you should watch them together in a row, because while they're very different songs, the videos are literally two halves of a whole.)
They're one of the few bands whose music videos are as satisfying and memorable as the albums themselves, and it's really awesome that they got to go for it from the very beginning of their major-label career!

The first album I bought for myself, and the last one by entering a record store, was the one with this song. I'm pretty sure it's my most played CD - and I remember lying on the living room floor with this song blasting on full, so many times since.
I'm, still not okay. Especially not at the moment. xD I don't think I've been less okay since this CD came out. But at least I finally found the right meds to have days when I'm "okay" - and if my life situation straightens out, I think I might have days when I'm actually okay. Would have helped if our free healthcare allowed people therapy, though
(yAy sWedEN, land of kickass publicity to hide their bodies with! :D "If we didn't get your particular kind of useless by unrightfully cutting off your sickness pension, ignoring your chronic pain or steadily withdrawing funding for mental health - then hopefully you'll perish in the Pandemic~. ^u^ Uh, we mean - go herd immunity!")

You are so cool and sweet! You should definitely check out their other stuff, along with other punk and emo groups. I dont know how you feel about it, but skillet is a Christian rock group and they are really cool. They aren't in your face about it but will still sing about it. It would interesting to see you two react to them.

I'd like to propose something a bit more extreme, but beautiful in its own way: Dimmu Borgir - Gateways
Please, watch the live concert called "DIMMU BORGIR - Gateways (LIVE - FORCES OF THE NORTHERN NIGHT)". I think you will be amazed by the merging of a classical symphonic orchestra, a live choir and some really harsh vocals with top-notch musicianship. The genre is called Symphonic Black Metal.

I don't know if you noticed or not but the chorus on I'm not okay actually changes several times to 'I'm okay'. Which to me the song is really about acceptance and understanding that we're all weird in our own way. The band took a long long hiatus (which for a time was thought to be permament) but I'm really looking forward to seeing what they do.

I love My Chemical Romance! They are still one of my favorite band since middle school. I would like to recomend the band Black Veil Brides, the songs " In the End", "Wake up" and they have some other good songs.

Mar are an amazing band. Everything they write, especially from the first two albums, is gold. The ghost of you is an amazing song you should react to. Teenagers is fun. Man is the best thing I’ve heard to date, I still get goosebumps listening to it. Love your work ❤️

    • @22.NUU.DRU.22

"Teenagers" is not in the first two albums, unless you believe the first two albums are "3 cheers for sweet revenge" and then " the black parade"...but you'd be leaving out "butterflies" which isn't a very well known album...
