Absolutely genius!!!! I just had a new kitchen put in and there was some overspray from the cabinets on one of the inner wooden shelves. The shelf has a beautiful clear coat finish on it. I was really worried that any technique would ruin the finish on the spot with the overspray. I used your method and it worked perfectly without affecting the beautiful clear coat finish underneath the overspray. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS GREAT TIP!!!

i can back this up! it works like magic! been doing this for a while, it somewhat works for spray on tint as well but not the best i always follow it up however with a polish and a fresh coat of clear coat, leads to less "oxidation"

I sealed with a spray paint flat coat on my oil based tire markers for my motorcycle tires and just as when I'm traveling the flat coat on the tire got cracked and looks really bad on my tire. I'm gonna try this method.

Hi , So I painted my motorcycle tank leaving the original paint on the tank , just painting the underside .... unfortunately my masking tape didnt do a great job of stopping the spray paint from getting to the original paint on my tank ,,,, do you think your method would take the small bodges I have without messing up the stock paint ? Typically the original paint is yellow and the spray paint is black too ..... so needs doing xD any help at all ?
This should work for you. I would start in a small area that you won’t notice Incase something strange happens. Every paint is different. Also spray the wd40 on the eraser not directly on the paint. I have used it to get paint off my jeep too when I sprayed the bumper when it was on the jeep and didn’t tape off. It may take some elbow grease but this should work. Let me know how you make out

Jon Randall it should be ok but I wouldn’t spray directly on the paint. The thickest coat of paint is the clear coat so you are basically removing a thin layer of it. Instead of using wd40 on the paint though I suggest carnauba wax. Apply liberally and work in. Don’t scrub too hard and keep even pressure. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

onofre garza it might help but depending on what your panels are made of it might harm them. If you want to give it a try I would test it on a small spot first. I have also seen carnuba wax work to soften the paint too. I would test anything that you are unsure of on a small inconspicuous area first to make sure you don’t ruin your interior
Do you think it will remove unwanted blue paint over brown trim paint w/o removing the brown paint ? Backstory so my ex applied dabs of blue paint over the brown trim with the intent to destroy the patio and siding !
Thanks for this tip. I already have WD-40. Went to Wal-Mart to pick up paint thinner and it was over $15 bucks. It's not that serious. This to remove overspray from an item that only cost 10 bucks.
Can I use this method to remove paint on top of a painted fibre part of my bike without damaging the original paint? (Also it's a really old paint patch - I decided to do hide the scratches using spray paint, it resulted in a patch with a different shade of black and the scratch is still there.)
Maybe?… I haven’t tried it. I would be worried about it damaging the vinyl but if you were to maybe try it in a small inconspicuous spot first let me know how it works
I was the same lazy idiot "the laziness came with a couple of beers, I oversprayed some primer on my frontlip of my BMW to repair some scraping damage. I am going to try your wd40 trick. Thanks for the tip brother. 👍
Arif Elassal depending on the paint it can work but it could damage the paint as well. I would test it in a small area you can’t see first. Also carnuba wax is good for removing it off paint
The thing is that WD40 is anti-rust, so you're actually sanding the surface of the plastic everytime you do this and the reason why that works so easily. What's actually better for the plastic, if you find a paint remover (pickling agent) for PP&EPDM so it will not solving or attacking the plastic surface. And of course always testing your product before using it on the actual car part.

Yes this should work to remove paint from your roof, just make sure you test it in a small spot first that you wont see just in case. Also I would put a coat of wax on the car after to help protect it.
Joe Sohkhlet yes it should I used it on the body of my jeep when I left my bumper on and spray painted it. It just takes a little bit of elbow grease. To be sure though I would test it in a small spot first

If you were using a Thinner base acrylic paint, I think thinner is the best way to remove that as well.
thinner might work but it might damage the paint or finish underneath. It would depend what you were doing it on

is this work on rims ? cus my rims got overspray while spraying my car's body. my rims are chrome
