How To Safely Remove Paint Overspray! - Chemical Guys

  • Are you having trouble reviving your paints gloss? Does the surface of your ride feel rough and grimy? In today's video, Nick walks us through the proper procedures for identifying and removing paint over spray, contamination, and fallout as well as how to protect the service and prevent future damage. Start by cleaning the vehicle with a wash to remove loose, heavier debris before selecting the appropriate clay bar to extract foreign debris. As the clay bar glides across the surface it will lift and carry fallout away from the paintwork which is a necessary step before paint correction or applications of any coatings to promote the longest lasting bond.
Lock in shine and repel harsh elements with a coat of HydroCharge. Paint may seem smooth to the naked eye, but if you analyze it closely, the surface is actually extremely uneven. Airborne contaminants such as brake dust, rail dust, airplane fallout, pollution, and calcium easily fall into surface imperfections, dulling your shine and bonding to the paint, while sharp fragments can even penetrate the clear coat like a knife! HydroCharge lays down a sacrificial layer of ceramic on top of the irregular surface, leveling it out so the surface is smooth, uniform, and slick, and helping protect your paint from razor-sharp particles. Now, with nowhere to stick, pollution and water just slide right off, leaving behind only a glistening shine that truly stuns!

Got say a big thank you for this video, my wife's newish Mini Countryman had some minor front damage repaired by dealer prior to collection, sadlyon its first clean 2 weeks later, I found all the flat surfaces were covered in overspray, hence dealers sprayer must have done rush job and not sheeted the whole car to avoid this, anyway an hour of fastidious clay bar treatment and oh my what a difference, its easy to forget the simple tricks and thank you for bringing this back to me. Could you guys do a tutorial on how to remove clear coat overspray on rubber/plastic/mold/window/weather strip trims? Especially with the poor masking paint jobs, there seems to be a quality control issue with some auto body shops with ensuring whether paint overspray or clear coat overspray doesn't get caught onto window or plastic trims.

Hey guys thank you for your videos I appreciate them! They are very informative! So I actually have a little bit of overspray on my car as well but I'm wondering is there any product that would help that stuff come off that would be faster than using clay bar? I've noticed with clay bar that it takes a lot of time to remove things and I just don't have a ton of time! Also I have also a little tiny algae spots on my vehicle as well from the previous owner and I'm wondering if there's any good products that might remove those as well that maybe faster than clay bar.

Hey Earl! You can use the same process shown in this video or try machine polishing with a White Hex-Logic Pad and P4 Precision Paint Polish to remove overspray.

I used a paint pen on my car but didn’t like how it looked so I was wondering how to remove it 😑

We recommend reaching out to a professional painter or body shop in order to fix the damage.

How does that remove paint overspray that has adhered via the solvent carrier in the paint? The only thing I know of that can do that is extremely carefully using a new very sharp razor blade, which is very likely to do even more and serious damage to the paint with the slightest loss in concentration; and won't work unless basically nearly flat surfaces? This is merely a clay bar video. Clay bar won't remove solvent based paint spray?
