Dolly wrote this song!! There was movie produced, directed and starred by Kevin Costner "The Bodyguard" (excellent movie by the way). Costner hired Whitney Houston to be the female lead (the part was a superstar singer and he knew she would be perfect in the role) and he had another song in mind for her to sing. Whitney said she was not an actress, Costner said he would help her and she would do fine and she did a great job. The song Costner had chosen for the movie ended up being used in another movie that same year so since he always liked this song, he decided on it. Whitney didn't want to do it, she insisted that it was a country song and she didn't do country music. Costner is also a singer and songwriter and he assured her that he could change up the song a bit and help her and she would indeed be able to sing it. This song became the biggest hit of Whitney's career which was sagging a bit before she did this movie due to some issues she had with drugs and an abusive marriage. Dolly is a great and prolific writer, she has written music that she as well as other artists have done for years and a couple of movie soundtracks as well. This is a beautiful song no matter how it is sung and no matter who sings it.

I love how you youngsters do not realize that most good shit today was actually written and sung when your parents were kids......I am 51 years old, and this song was covered by Whitney Houston in the movie, The Bodyguard, many years later! Dolly Parton wrote this song and sung it first on the Porter Wagoner show, which is where she is telling Porter Wagoner, the man in this above video, Goodbye, as she was moving on with her life in the music industry......Porter Wagoner hired Dolly Parton to be an entertainer on his show back in the late 1960's early 1970's. Back then, most entertainers were under contracts with studios for multi-year deals, and you were pretty much locked into that role until the contract ran out....they used to "own" people, so to speak. The above video is from the Porter Wagoner show, which is where Dolly was locked into a contract by the Nashville Heavy Weight.......As Dolly's profile grew from being on the show, she realized that she had to move on with her career in the Country Music Industry, which meant breaking her contract. Porter Wagoner did not want her to leave his show, but she insisted......on her way out, she wrote Porter Wagoner, her boss, this beautiful song, telling him that as much as she loved him for pulling her out of obscurity, it was time she left the nest......so she wrote this song expressing to him how she felt in appreciation for all that he had done for her.....he was a father figure to her in many ways and as hard as it was to let her out of her contract, it was even harder for Dolly to jump out into the unknown with no safety net. Dolly Parton is one of the most genuine and sweetest singer song writers to ever have been in the business. That is why she is so loved to this day.

In 1966 or 67, Dolly became a regular performer on The Porter Wagner Show. They fought like cats and dogs (Dolly's words). When her contract was up, Dolly was ready to move on. Porter wanted her to stay, even going so far as to tell her she owed it to him. She wrote this song in one night hoping it would explain how she felt and how grateful she was to him. She sat him down and sang it for him. But he was just too angry. She left the show and went out on her own. Porter actually sued her for the rights to the songs she wrote while under contract with him. And he won the suit. Her songs were legally his. Years later, Porter was sick and broke and mostly forgotten, except in Nashville. He was selling all those songs that he had won. Dolly Parton bought all her songs back from him. Dolly has a beautiful heart full of compassion and forgiveness. She felt no sense of justice or revenge. After buying the songs from him, she gifted them back to him.
Even though I loved this song first by Dolly Parton, I also really liked Whitney's version. Whitney Huston's mother, Cissy Huston was one of Elvis Presley's backup singers called "The Sweet Sensations". Cissy Huston later had a stellar career as a gospel singer.

Dolly joked years later when she recorded the song she earned enough money to put a few bucks in the bank and when Whitney sung it she bought the bank. The success of that recording inspired other artists to record her music and she made the most money in her career over the next decade as she has written over 3,000 songs.

Dolly wrote this for Porter Wagoner who gave her her start in the business. She was leaving his show to go out on her own and wanted to thank him. He initially was ok with it but turned sour on it and her when his ratings slumped without her. But when he was in dire straits and needed cash, he put his entire music catalog up for sale. She bought it and then gave it back to him later as a gift. When he was on his death bed, she would sit with him and sing to him. I Will Always Love You was a number one hit in three decades in a row. 1970s when she wrote it and first recorded it. 1980s when it was on the soundtrack of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. And, then in the 1990s when Whitney Houston covered it and took it to number one. Recently, it was honored in the multi-star video, Forever Country: Artist of Then, Now, and Forever th-cam.com/video/E2pAslx5az8/w-d-xo.html. She once jokingly said, "Whitney can have the credit, as long as I get the check."

First of all, Dolly Parton wrote "I will always love you" and also another song called "Jolene" back in 1974. Jolene at the time was with her very desr friend on a tv show. She said that she would stay for about five years and then she said she was going to go on her own which she did. She wrote this song "I will always Love You" and sang it right before she left and left him in tears. Over the years, Dolly Parton has written over 3,000 songs, has whole nunch of Grammy Awards and Oscars too and as a matter of fact Life Achievement Awards. She can play about five or six musical instruments very, very well. Dolly has a net worth of over 650 million dollars and is not only a Hall of Famer but is also referred to as "The Queen of Country Music". Wh h she is. To this day she continually is helping out the poor and the homeless and donating to all kinds of charties. When Dolly Parton wrote " I will Always Love You" she was twenty seven years old. Whitney Houston was born August 9, 1963. What does that tell you? As time went on there was ao a movie valled "The Bodyguard" with producer Kevin Costner. He helped Whitney s whole lot. And though Whitney had a Super Beautiful Voice this was the song that she had to sing. She told Costner that she couldn't sing it because it was country and she didn't sing vountry. He allowed her to even vhange a few words at the beginning which she did, sang it and the slow as well as Dolly's song became a big success. Naturally Dolly had given her😂 Whitney Houston permission not only to sing her song but as long as the checks kept coming in, she could even call it her song which she did. Dolly gave Whitney Houston the right to do that to the pretty little song that she had written. But anyway could you please play another song by Dolly Parton for me? It's called "Me and Little Andy". And please let me know what you think of it. Have a Blessed Evening. Adios.

Dolly wrote this song. She went to #1 on the charts. Then she rerecorded it for the Movie, Best Little Whorehouse in Texas and it again went to # 1. Then Whitney recorded it for the movie The Bodyguard and she had a # 1 hit with it. Dolly once said her own version was money in the bank but Whitney’s version made enough to buy the bank.
One of her biggest hits was Jolene.
Dolly also wrote Nine to Five for the movie of the same name. She had a # 1 hit with it and received an academy award nomination for it. She was also one of the stars in the movie.
Dolly has accomplished so much it would be impossible to list it here. Dolly is a country music legend but she has the kind of voice that transcends genres.

Dolly said in an interview that she was driving and listening to the radio when Whitney's version came on and she was absolutely floored, had to pull over to finish listening because Whitney's take was so different and so powerful and amazing and she LOVED IT and knew from then on it was Whitney's. She originally wrote it for Porter Wagoner to tell him goodbye when she quit working for him, but Whitney's version told her it was more than the sum of its parts

"I Will Always Love You" is a song written and originally recorded in 1973 by American singer-songwriter Dolly Parton.[1] Her country version of the track was released in 1974 as a single and was written as a farewell to her former business partner and mentor of seven years, Porter Wagoner, following Parton's decision to leave The Porter Wagoner Show and pursue a solo career.

Dolly wrote this when Whitney was about 11 years old. Over the years, many artists wanted to cover it, including Elvis Presley but they didn't allow it until Whitney and I saw Dolly Parton, just a clip of an interview and she said Whitney's voice, she just had to say yes and she said "You know, Whitney made millions off that song but you know what I made?.....MORE MILLIONS!!!!!"

Elvis Presley wanted to record this song when Priscilla left him. Dolly wanted Elvis to record this song, too. The problem was Colonel Tom Parker, who managed Elvis, said they had to have 50% of the royalties. Dolly, being the keen businesswoman she is, said absolutely not. Parker wouldn't budge...insisting on a 50% share. To the disappointment of both Elvis, Dolly, and fans of both, that version never saw the light of day.

Dolly wrote a letter (which became this song) telling Porter Wagoner (the man in this video) when her 5 year contract to do his show was up, it was time for her to move on. The song went to number 1. Later, when it was featured in a movie titled The Nest Little Whorehouse In Texas, starring Dolly Parton and Burt Reynolds, it went to number 1 again. Then, Dolly let Whitney Houston sing it for the movie The Bodyguard. The first time she heard Whitney's version on the radio, she was driving down the highway and had to pull over. That's when she realized she was going to make tons of money from the royalties from Whitney's version. For the third time, I Will Always Love You went to number 1 again. Yes, this song was number 1 in the 70s, the 80s, and the 90s. As a side note, Dolly Parton wrote two number 1 songs in the same day...I will Always Love You, and also Jolene.

That is 100% written by Miss Dolly’ Parton and there’s a beautiful story about it!!! She allowed Miss Whitney to do a beautiful cover. I still prefer the original as it has way more meaning.
    The Story Behind The Song:
It was her goodbye to Mr. Porter Wagoner. Dolly once starred on the show The Porter Wagoner Show, it’s how she got her first big break. She was on the show for five years but started to want to break away and work on her own projects. Mr. Porter Wagoner didn’t want to see Dolly leave his show and it led to a bit of an issue. He refused to listen to why she wanted to go. Dolly wrote this song for him, explaining how she felt. Porter had no choice but to listen, at that point.
After she wrote the song, she shared it with Mr. Porter. She sang it for him and she said he started crying. After that, Dolly revealed that he said, “Well, hell! If you feel that strong about it, just go on - providing I get to produce that record because that’s the best song you ever wrote.”

  • @maryannanderson2213
    @maryannanderson2213 ปีที่แล้ว

Dolly wrote this and recorded it when Whitney was about 10 years old so it had been around a LONG time before Whitney covered it. It's been number one about three or four times, the first time when it first came out by Dolly and then years later when Whitney covered it and again when Dolly redid it with Vince Gill and it seems like maybe one more time but I can't remember that one.
I get weary hearing people say, "Oh, Dolly is doing a Whitney Houston song." NO. Whitney did a Dolly Parton song. Dolly didn't seem to mind that people thought this song belonged to Whitney because Whitney's version made a LOT of money for Dolly and I believe she donated ALL the royalties from Whitney's version to various black schools or organizations.
Elvis wanted to record it but his manager, Colonel Parker would only let him record it if Dolly would sell him the rights to it, which means that all future royalties would have been his as well. She refused and at the time she was a fairly unknown and she said she cried all night after turning Elvis down because it would have been quite an accomplishment to have him record her song but something told her that would not be a very wise business decision and turns out she was right. She reportedly said that if I Will Always Love You was the ONLY song she had ever written, she would have been rich if she had never done another thing in her life. However, she did do a LOT of other things including tours and recording songs and she so far has written a few thousand songs. I think Elvis was the loser on this deal.
