Welcome to the channel. To be honest I find it ageist and offensive when I hear people spouting their uninformed opinions about games being for kids. I love games, comics, nerf guns . . .you name it. In fact I run this channel to try and educate and inform. In my mind I'm still a 12-year-old kid 😊
Have a friend who's 77 (me in my thirties; have played video games constantly since the age of 3-4) who constantly goes on about how childish video games are. I'm trying to convince him that they're not; even though he doesn't have to like them it'd be nice to not have him constantly rag on one of my biggest hobbies. I will show him this video; just echoing what's already been said but nice to see an older gentleman understand how fun video games can be. 👍 Edit: never heard of Horgihugh. Will look that (and potentially more to come) up after finishing the video. Edit 2: the rest I have. Oh and if you play these handheld you need a flip grip (if you're into pinball as well).
Hi there. I will give you the advice I give everybody in this situation. I've made a life's work of not giving a toss what other people think. Age, gender, religion are no barrier to doing what you want to do. If other people have a problem with it that's THEIR problem not yours.Would your critics have you sitting in the pub all day drinking your money away when you can have a hobby with physical stuff that will last. Don't fall into that trap of thinking that YOU'RE in the wrong. The first thing I did when I bought a Switch was make the flipgrip my second purchase. Absolutely essential if, like me, you prefer vertical shmups. Hope that helps.
I thought I’d drop my as my buddy Callum said I’d enjoy your channel. It’s good to see so many shooters in one video. As someone that’s going for a full physical set of shooters on PS4 & Switch. I’m doing well on the PS4, but missed some of the Switch as I decided late to collect the Switch shooters. That being said I’ve got the majority of what you’ve shown. Though I’ve missed a few of the PlayAsia Switch shooters. Great stuff Kenny.
Well unfortunately it's an expensive rabbit hole to go down. I decided to concentrate on Switch shmups because, firstly, you can play 'em on the go and, secondly, because of the flood of shmups on digital in the shape of Arcade Archives. Thirdly, I love the cute little boxes that take up little space on my shelves.

Yes, Mushihimesama is one of my favourite shmups so I was pleased to get that. They are quite scarce in the UK so I was really pleased to pick up the Espgaluda II one as well. There is one other - Dodonpachi Resurrection but I've not seen one of those outside of the US yet.
Just got the physical copy of Drainus! Can't wait to get it delivered, I'm definitely going to grab the shmup collection as your right it's definitely not cheap 😅

Yes, it's a shame but I normally buy from UK based sellers. Bit more expensive maybe but you don't know what the postage + import fees are gonna be from US. Luckily I only collect Switch shmups so a bit less hassle.

Glad you liked the vid. Switch is an amazing console for shmups. Apart from the excellent physicals there are a whole bunch of digital arcade classics. Of course the problem with the physical games is that many of them are Japanese only plus low-run games from Limited Edition and other less well-known publishers. Adds to the desirability I suppose. Anyway good luck with your collecting and look out for my other shmup vids on the channel.
Hi there, nice to hear from an older gamer. Okay shmups . . .you should stay away from bullet hell ones. Best place to start would be an obscure game called Horgihugh and Friends which you can buy cheaply on Amazon. Or if you fancy a vertical shmup then Raiden IV Mikado Remix is not too brutal, again cheap on Amazon. Hope that helps.
My dad never understood gaming. He was always the type that said you're rotting your brain if you play too much, but ironically enough, he was a movie nut and he couldn't tell you what made watching westerns and noir flicks all the time more acceptable. I mean, I could just watch somebody stream a game and enjoy it the same way. I really wish he had your perspective.
Hi there. Well, I don't have any "mates" as such because I have no common ground with folks my age. Of course it works both ways. In my mind I'm still that 12-year-old who loves to collect stuff and, accordingly, I still look at my hobby through a child's eyes. Your Dad didn't - it's as simple as that.
This guy is awesome. He is obviously in his 20's but the shmups have accelerated his aging due to the stress of figuring out how to dodge all the bullets.
I don't think my elderly gameplay would make very good viewing 🤣. Tate is essential in my opinion and I bought a decent rotatable monitor to do the job. 1ccs are tricky.

My favourite shmups on switch are: Esp ra de Mushihimesama Espgaluda 2 Akai Katana Shin Crimzon clover Gunvein Deathsmiles Rolling Gunner Danmaku Unlimited Eschatos Darius Gaiden Dodonpachi (least favourite cave game) Ray Z collection (great but probably not worth the £60 I spent on the Japanese eshop) Giga Wing Pro Gear Runner up: Like Dreamer
Hi Peter. Yes, few of my favourites on that list too. Mushi, Crimson Clover, Deathsmiles. Of course that's what makes the Switch such a great shmups console - the mass of shmups on Eshop. The Sega Saturn was always considered THE machine for shmups but Switch outpaces it by miles.
@@petewatson8074 I have a Japanese Saturn but the prices of some of the games are truly eye-watering. Of course the PC Engine/Turbo Duo was quite the shmupping console but likewise the prices 😲

I just don't like the amount of auto bombs given on daifukatsu coupled with not even knowing when you get hit sometimes due to the amount going on on screen. It almost makes you stop caring about getting hit and cheapens the experience.

Looks quite like my collection , although unfortunately I missed r-type dimensions. But I recently got Jamestown and radiant silvergun. Did not play those yet but are supposed to be great. Also worth mentioning and one of my all time favorites is Ikaruga. Played it on the GameCube and picked up the ps4 and switch years and years later. Must have! What was the game with the silver sleeve box , didn’t quite catch the name of it. Good to see gaming is for all ages, in my fifties , lady player and sometimes feeling nobody understands me. I am a schmup collector as well, and bought a flip grip especially for that purpose. Keep up the good work!
Sorry about the delay in replying but I'm semi-retired from youtube now (that is retired but thinking about becoming un-retired 😄) Must say it's great to hear from a female shmupper outside the normal demographic of gamers age-wise. May I give you the same advice as I have given many collectors and gamers over the years. If people find it strange that you still are involved with an activity "normally" undertaken by younger people then that is THEIR problem not yours. Coincidentally I just picked up Jamestown on physical. Never cared for Radiant Silvergun so haven't picked that up yet. Ikaruga I just can't get the hang of at all. The shmup in the silver box is pretty obscure. It's called Kyogeki Quartet Fighter (more commonly known as Quad Fighter K) Yes the Flip Grip is an absolutely essential peripheral for Switch shmups . . .shame it's not more readily available in the UK. Anyway, nice to hear from you and keep shmupping 👍👍

Yes, I love that one, also Mushi is one of my favourite games. Actually Limited Run games have taken preorders for a cab for Dodonpachi Resurrection and Espgaluda 2. They are long overdue but I'll be jumping on them when and if they come out.

Im enjoying raiden 4 a lot. I like it more than Raiden 3. Keep trying to like Darius but still not my thing. Hopefully eventually I’ll find it more appealing or smt. Great vid and collection!
Just recently got back into shmups and 'sine mora ex' and 'cotton fantasy' was my first pick ups! As you said cotton fantasy is a great game but i really like the story side of sine mora which even has voice acting, I got it for pennies from cex. I really LOVE 'parodius' but not sure if its on the switch, thats my all time favourite shmup.
Cotton Fantasy is fantastic - one of the best horizontal shmups on the Switch. Sine Mora I'm not keen on so much although the graphics are good and it's a nice budget price. Sadly Parodius isn't out for the Switch but I would imagine it will turn up eventually . . .maybe in a compilation.

Fantastic collection... Great taste especially in MUSHIHIMESAMA !.... Although Crimzon Clover World Explosion 💥 is not a physical release just yet (First Press Games taking forever) I'd highly recommend grabbing it digitally. You won't regret it, Hands down my favourite Switch Shmup.

Someone told me to grow up the other day and that video games are for little kids. They told me to stop buying and playing them. I felt pretty down about it but, I was about to sell all my games because of it.
Well Angelo, first of all don't get discouraged by people who have no idea what they're talking about. I have found that the dullest people are those without any hobbies at all. There's no age limit to ANYTHING and if this person begs to differ just show them one of my videos. Fantastic video and I can only echo your sentiment regarding LRG. Expensive and a lot of faff despite them releasing wonderful titles!
Yes, it's a shame but I normally buy from UK based sellers. Bit more expensive maybe but you don't know what the postage + import fees are gonna be from US. Luckily I only collect Switch shmups so a bit less hassle.

Glad you liked the vid. Switch is an amazing console for shmups. Apart from the excellent physicals there are a whole bunch of digital arcade classics. Of course the problem with the physical games is that many of them are Japanese only plus low-run games from Limited Edition and other less well-known publishers. Adds to the desirability I suppose. Anyway good luck with your collecting and look out for my other shmup vids on the channel.

Hi there, nice to hear from an older gamer. Okay shmups . . .you should stay away from bullet hell ones. Best place to start would be an obscure game called Horgihugh and Friends which you can buy cheaply on Amazon. Or if you fancy a vertical shmup then Raiden IV Mikado Remix is not too brutal, again cheap on Amazon. Hope that helps.

My dad never understood gaming. He was always the type that said you're rotting your brain if you play too much, but ironically enough, he was a movie nut and he couldn't tell you what made watching westerns and noir flicks all the time more acceptable. I mean, I could just watch somebody stream a game and enjoy it the same way. I really wish he had your perspective.
Hi there. Well, I don't have any "mates" as such because I have no common ground with folks my age. Of course it works both ways. In my mind I'm still that 12-year-old who loves to collect stuff and, accordingly, I still look at my hobby through a child's eyes. Your Dad didn't - it's as simple as that.

I like schmups I even bother to tate with a CRT monitor but I can't 1cc any of them :D Still I enjoy them a lot. We would love to see you play some :)
I don't think my elderly gameplay would make very good viewing 🤣. Tate is essential in my opinion and I bought a decent rotatable monitor to do the job. 1ccs are tricky.

Hi Peter. Yes, few of my favourites on that list too. Mushi, Crimson Clover, Deathsmiles. Of course that's what makes the Switch such a great shmups console - the mass of shmups on Eshop. The Sega Saturn was always considered THE machine for shmups but Switch outpaces it by miles.

@@petewatson8074 I have a Japanese Saturn but the prices of some of the games are truly eye-watering. Of course the PC Engine/Turbo Duo was quite the shmupping console but likewise the prices 😲
Dodonpachi is not on switch...yet. You must mean Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu which is a different game my friend.

I just don't like the amount of auto bombs given on daifukatsu coupled with not even knowing when you get hit sometimes due to the amount going on on screen.
It almost makes you stop caring about getting hit and cheapens the experience.

Looks quite like my collection , although unfortunately I missed r-type dimensions. But I recently got Jamestown and radiant silvergun. Did not play those yet but are supposed to be great. Also worth mentioning and one of my all time favorites is Ikaruga. Played it on the GameCube and picked up the ps4 and switch years and years later. Must have!
What was the game with the silver sleeve box , didn’t quite catch the name of it.
Good to see gaming is for all ages, in my fifties , lady player and sometimes feeling nobody understands me. I am a schmup collector as well, and bought a flip grip especially for that purpose. Keep up the good work!
Sorry about the delay in replying but I'm semi-retired from youtube now (that is retired but thinking about becoming un-retired 😄) Must say it's great to hear from a female shmupper outside the normal demographic of gamers age-wise. May I give you the same advice as I have given many collectors and gamers over the years. If people find it strange that you still are involved with an activity "normally" undertaken by younger people then that is THEIR problem not yours.
Coincidentally I just picked up Jamestown on physical. Never cared for Radiant Silvergun so haven't picked that up yet. Ikaruga I just can't get the hang of at all.
The shmup in the silver box is pretty obscure. It's called Kyogeki Quartet Fighter (more commonly known as Quad Fighter K)
Yes the Flip Grip is an absolutely essential peripheral for Switch shmups . . .shame it's not more readily available in the UK.

I used to collect stamps when I was a kid and I'm still a child in my own head. I've been a shmup lover since 1984 when we used to have loads of video arcades. Still love 'em 🛸

Yes, I love that one, also Mushi is one of my favourite games. Actually Limited Run games have taken preorders for a cab for Dodonpachi Resurrection and Espgaluda 2. They are long overdue but I'll be jumping on them when and if they come out.

Im enjoying raiden 4 a lot. I like it more than Raiden 3. Keep trying to like Darius but still not my thing. Hopefully eventually I’ll find it more appealing or smt. Great vid and collection!

Just recently got back into shmups and 'sine mora ex' and 'cotton fantasy' was my first pick ups! As you said cotton fantasy is a great game but i really like the story side of sine mora which even has voice acting, I got it for pennies from cex. I really LOVE 'parodius' but not sure if its on the switch, thats my all time favourite shmup.
Cotton Fantasy is fantastic - one of the best horizontal shmups on the Switch. Sine Mora I'm not keen on so much although the graphics are good and it's a nice budget price. Sadly Parodius isn't out for the Switch but I would imagine it will turn up eventually . . .maybe in a compilation.
I personally don't like Sine Mora's story, because there are FURRYs who talks about genocide and mass rapes. It's really weird.

Fantastic collection... Great taste especially in MUSHIHIMESAMA !.... Although Crimzon Clover World Explosion 💥 is not a physical release just yet (First Press Games taking forever) I'd highly recommend grabbing it digitally. You won't regret it, Hands down my favourite Switch Shmup.
Ah . . .Mushi, one of my favourites of all time. Must try and find the Collectors Edition that goes with that arcade peripheral because I don't have a physical copy. Haven't picked up Crimson Clover WE on digital yet because I've been awaiting a physical. Not familiar with First Press, must check 'em out.

Someone told me to grow up the other day and that video games are for little kids. They told me to stop buying and playing them. I felt pretty down about it but, I was about to sell all my games because of it.
Well Angelo, first of all don't get discouraged by people who have no idea what they're talking about. I have found that the dullest people are those without any hobbies at all. There's no age limit to ANYTHING and if this person begs to differ just show them one of my videos. Keep on doing what you're doing my friend because, at the end of the day, the only opinion that matters is yours 👍👍
