Also teatree oil works very well against smelly clothes. Just put a few drops on the Gi before washing it. After wahsing it you won’t smell it anymore if you use just a few drops
Thank you for this very helpful video, especially for us newbies. How about a little hydrogen peroxide? It doesn’t seem to damage anything I have washed and does kill bacteria and get rid of some stains without bleach (or chlorine, at least).
Great question! I have not personally used it, but from some Googling it seems like it should be a safe option. It is very similar to OxiClean, which we have used on our gis with good results.
I wear an A1H in the aeroweave and it has shrunk ever so slightly through time but fits pretty well still. Would you recommend buying a size up in the valiant gi since it shrinks so much?
It can really depend on your size and the gis. I would suggest finding a gi brand and model that fits you great after a dryer cycle. Most size charts should be close to accurate after shrinking, but it can always help to contact the gi company. Lastly, a local tailor is a really affordable option to get a gi fitting perfect!
I bought your Calavera Gi and I'll start by saying it's a GREAT Gi! It's soft, strong, and looks great! But I bought it in a half size up to try and shrink it down (A2L shrinking down to A2). While it DOES shrink when I wash it as you suggested, it IMMEDIATELY stretches back out as soon as it gets pulled on or sweat in (or both, usually). What can I do to keep the gi from stretching back out right off the bat? Or did I make a mistake in trying to get a gi that I can shrink to fit like the video mentions?
Great questions! In our experience it can take a few wash and dry cycles for a gi to really settle into its final form. We haven't experienced gis returning to their original size from sweat, but sleeves do stretch a bit when an opponent or training partner gets good sleeve grips and is pulling hard on the fabric. Fighting grips is a really important skill and addressing them immediately should hopefully help a bit with the stretching. If the gi just feels a bit too long, a local tailor is a great option. They can get the sleeves exactly the length you would like for $10-20.
Thanks for the great info Dave! Nice hearing from the guys behind the whole operation!
Thank you!
Awesome tip with the vinegar.

needed this, thanks
Happy to help! Thanks!
Does these methods work just for the sleeves? My Elite GI only the sleeves are a tad long. I had to take the pants to get tailored cause I’m short lol
What about color
Dave vs Cole 5 min round video?

Is it fair to say that it’s worth buying oversize and shrinking to fit?
Because with training multiple times a week there’s not time to hang dry

Can you use fabric softener?
Never use that stuff period
