Good set up. As a suggestion ...were you have that hole drilled I would put an eye bolt and locking nut . That way you never have to worry about the hole cutting your rope. Just a thought......hunt well and stay safe..
While I do not 1 stick climb, my climb is similar in that my stand is equipped with shoulder straps and I use 3 mini sticks with 3 step aider I made myself. I do rappel down now as that part always intrigued me and I really like it. I use the figure 8 however. Thanks for sharing, I always learn something from these.
Overwatch Outdoors 💪Jamie makes a great saddle. I'm running the Transformer this year! Most comfortable saddle I've sat in to date! I'm also running the tether stop by Innovating The Outdoors. Mine has an locked eye loop between the stopper and where you girth hitch around your rope. I attach my dyna glide with a carabiner to the eye loop and leave the stopper hooked up when I repell down. When I pull the dyna glide it automatically releases the stopper! One sticking is a no brainer after you do it a few times! I enjoy it! Enjoyed the video brother 🤜
Nice video. I like the paracord loop idea on the rappel rope. I’ll be adding that soon! You should update your video with one key safety point though. The carabiner at the end of the rope is not meant to be used in that manner. It is being side loaded and is meant to have a vertical load. You can order a climbing rated quick link on Amazon to serve the same purpose. I recently saw a trick on another video to keep the rope from sliding instead of adding an accessory. Just give the quick link one wrap of the rope after feeding it through.
I've looked into what side loading is along with the pictures and explanation. A carabiner that's half over a ledge where the load is in one spot on the side of the carabiner. This puts all the weight in one spot and not spread out over the entire surface. If the entire side of the carabiner is in contact with the tree it's safe, you're not putting much if any pressure on the middle of the carabiner. You can test this by rotating it side to side and the weight is on either end where the ropes are pulling it the way its intended too. I'm not sure if that will come across right lol. I'll make another video. Thanks for the concern its appreciated!
Holy crap that looked overwhelming in 95 degrees with a thousand mosquitoes buzzing your face like it is in archery season here in south/central Florida. I use 4 sticks. I can get up quick. Interesting method though nice video
Hey brother , awesome video. I’m interested in using a carabiner instead of delta link like you are. Only negatives I’ve seen are the chances of bending or weak axis shock loading. Have you had any type of thoughts of going back to a quick link or do you just capture you progress as you ascend and ensure the carabiner isn’t in a bind at all times. Thanks in advanced !
I hadnt found that it was ever under a bind at all. Pick a tree that's bigger than a softball and you shouldn't have a problem. Take your time and be careful either way!
Just getting into saddle hunting and bought everything I thought was the most efficient and now I keep seeing "one sticking" lol. I went with Hawk Helium 20" mini sticks to be compact but now I'm possibly regretting not looking into one sticking more, it looks way more efficient.
I one stick w a helium mini stick w the platform attached to where top steps were. Now I have an amsteel daisy chain but will upgrade to cam cleat for next year
Im new to saddle hunting, and that saddle looks awesome. I have a Kestral Flex but never hunted with it yet. Didnt get a chance to use it last year. But arent all those benors and mechanical devices rather loud especially in the dark when your clipping and unclipping and trying to get hooked up and up the tree? Thats the one thing i absolutely love about my lone wolf sit and climb. It is super quiet even if i smash the platform off the tree somehow by mistake or it slips its just a dull thud off the tree at the worst. Great video though man, just curious bout this stuff.
Sound in it self is only heard by that which is closest to it. It may sound a bit loud to the user but 50 yards away you or an animal wouldn't hear a thing! You ever walked up on a deer in the woods? You think if he heard you he would stick around? I'd say no lol! I do move slower as I setup in the woods when hunting which also helps a ton. Thanks for the comment! Appreciate the interaction!
Actually, all you need to do is keep pulling your pull rope and the tag end of your rappel rope sides through the carabiner and pulls right over any limb and falls to the ground.
Nice Paul. I’ve been wondering how the one sticking was done. I’m curious if you’ve ever weighed all of that stuff together? In other words if you piled all of that stuff you used there that you’d need to climb a tree and sit what does it weigh? Right now I use an 11# ultra lite climbing stand to get into places off the path and am wondering which set up is lighter to pack. I’ve shot a few deer out of the climber with my long bow and had plenty of room to maneuver it and it’s comfy. I’m just wondering if there’s a lighter option.
The weight is probably the same if we are just comparing the platform and stick. The saddle itself would be the same as your safety harness and the rappel rope the same as your tree tether. My platform weights 3 pounds and my stick weights about 3.5 pounds. The saddle probably 5 to 7 pounds with all the pouches ropes and caribeaners. So I'm looking at 13 pounds for every single thing I need to go up and come down. I've never heard of an 11 pound climber what brand is it?
@@pitbullman4111 it’s an older XStand model climber. It’s not all day hunt comfortable but it’s great for sneaking into an area for a morning hunt or an evening hunt. Which honestly all I have time for anymore are half day hunts.
sucks because u have to basically hunt telephone poles and be close to 20 feet at all times i got my buck this year out a tree with awesome cover only about 12ft up in my lock on used 2 tethrd gen 3 sticks with a 3 step aider and novix helo now if i have to hunt 20ft i can get up there with 3 gen 3 sticks and 3 step aider but to each there own i just love hunting out of a hang on lol
Instead of a piece of metal connecting your tether, why not try a double running bowline? No need for the special printed clip, no metal clang or cross load . And you can still hook your retrieve line behind the bowline. it does'nt shorten your rappel rope to any noticeable length, much more quiet. Seems all of these new videos rely on a mad rock safe guard. Hard to find and cost way much more than an atc and autoblock
It's really no work at all once you have your system down! Plus most any tree is open to hunt when you use a saddle/more mobile setup. I was a climber die hard until I picked up the saddle game@
Climber is too awkward walking in any distance. I like my Climber alot but I love my saddle. Seems overwhelming at first but you expend zero energy w this method

I have not seen the use of the paracord loops as tether advancement loops before that is good stuff. Keep up the good videos.
The the thumb loops on the rappel rope is a slick tip!
I have the same saddle. I really like it. Super easy to walk in with. I like how I can adjust it as needed for comfort throughout my hunt.
Really good extra tips. I love the loops to help move your tether up!

It wasn't the weight of the climbing stand that made me switch. It was the awkwardness and odd size for me
