The OHM Tether Locker has a loop right behind the clip that is intended for clipping dynaglide to. It works great because you can leave the tether locker clipped until you get to the base of the tree then pull on the retrieval line and unclips it and loosens the repel line at the same time. Great video!
Real good video. Clear concise good camera work and editing (retrieve rappel rope). Especially like idea of moving from bottom of stick. I struggle from top step so this looks way less effort. Will practice during off season. Thanks
Really liked this video. It was well done showing the whole process. I like the idea of not pushing for maximum height each move. I’d like to get a better look at how you wind up the rappelling rope on your arm.
The Ohm Tetherlocker you are using has a loop in the end near the lock that you should put the Sbiner for your pull-down rope through. I also pull my thetherlocker off the rope (holding the quicklink up) but even if I/we forget to do that, the pulldown rope will pull on the Sbiner and pull the lock off the rappel rope freeing up the quicklink, and then the pull-down rope, Sbiner, and thertherlocker rope will pull down the rappel rope.
I was hating one sticking until I stopped trying to get max height with every move. So much less frustration making 4 moderate moves than 3 stretching as far as possible.
Good tutorial thanks! My only suggestion might be to add an autoblock when rappelling just to be extra safe. Easy to clip it to lineman loop on right side, and cheap insurance too. Obviously the Safeguard is much safer than just an ATC but It’s possible to panic and pull that lever back and let yourself down, let’s say….much faster than you’d have intended.
Thanks man. The para cord made all the difference. One hunt of my biner sliding around on the rope was enough. Nothing like wrestling with your rope for 20 minutes in the dark!
@@truthfromthestand9994 I’m going to put one on my repel rope and try it . I like listening to your pod cast I can relate a lot to what you talk about because I live in Bucks county also
QUIKEST : Small old school " lineman's belt" the kind with 2 D rings , "flip line" ( I recommend the Petzl Zillion with mechanical prusic) and a pair of tree climbing / pole climbing gaffs...Out here in the Pasific Northwest our Pine, Oak Fir and Madrone can have some BIG horizontal limbs to rope into and just sit on with an attached butt pad.
The picture in the mad rock are related to rock climbing. The little person would be the climber or where you're attached to the tree. The hand is for the direction with the belay. Just an FYI. Great video, thanks for the demonstration!
Good video. Something I do different is; I clip on my Madrock Safeguard to my bridge before I start up the tree. Once off the ground and on the stick, I then attach my tether/rappel rope to the tree. On a hunt, while attaching my tether to the tree, a group of deer showed up. I stopped moving, not to alert them of my presence. This happened before getting my Madrock clipped to my bridge. Once the deer moved out of sight, I had already forgotten that I was not attached to my tether. Luckily I realized my mistake before attempting to make a movement to advance. Before this happened, this was something I never considered.
Got to get back to the gear, videos dog your top five videos are all gear related except of course your Eberhart video which means only one thing You gotta get the Godfather of saddle hunting back on. I just spoke to him about my Wild Boar hunt 😊
Possibly. I can use without making noise so I left it as is. I wouldn’t want to add any extra friction. It pulls harder when retrieving the rope when it’s wet. Wet rope on wet stealth trip could be problematic.
Great video, I followed your video today and it was very successful. The only thing I did different is using a linesman every time climbed the aider. I also think the fact I have saddle hunted for 2 years and that has made me very comfortable in trusting my saddle and equipment.
You pull the retrieve line (bow rope) that I connect to the tether before I rappel. It’s why you pull the not so the clean no of the rope goes through branches.
Can you add the link for the plastic clip that snaps on to your line at the quick link? I didn’t see it. I’ve been looking for something like that for a while, thanks.
is the area sanded where your foot aider attaches to your 1 stick? or is there some sort of buffer fabric used to protect your aider from the sharp edges in your stick? im worried about fraying my aider.
I have, but haven't found the time to try it yet. I'm pretty quick and smooth with one stick. And using the Tethrd stick..it only weighs 1Lb. So I would't be saving a ton of weight. But I can see it's appeal.
I can reach it but it’s not comfortable and I was moving too much. So you’re correct. I chose to stand on the bottom step to make it easier and create less movement👍
I know some guys don’t like climbers but in 15 years of hunting Michigan and Southern Ohio I’ve only had maybe 10 times where I can’t get into a decent tree. And it is so incredibly fast! The lone wolf ultra light and summit viper. This method looks hard. The guys I see who use 4 sticks move much faster and it looks easier. To each his own, just a thought.
Problem I have with climbers is the bulk and weight. I ran a lone wolf climber for a while which is way better with that stuff but that thing is so small that once you are in it it’s like standing on the top of a 4x4. Just wasn’t for me, I’m afraid of heights. However……. You can use a saddle set up with a lone wolf climber platform… like a hybrid setup, I think I need to try it out next. Currently I SRT into the tree and it works, but it’s tedious. EDIT: lone wolf hand climber part I think is how guys are doing it, not the platform
@@jmythngdmb I recently purchased a JX3 hybrid saddle that’s 12 pounds and wears as your back pack. I used it last fall and I’ll never pick up a climber again. I probably should have also said that.! The thing is so comfortable I sleep in it! And love the thing.

100%. No award for who uses fewer moves.

If You Look at your OHM Rope stay it has a loop for your rappel retrieval line.

What's the clip thing you mention at 11:19?
I’d recommend running your break hand by your waist. It the descender fails, it’ll pull your break hand in before you know it.

Nice job. I like the clip
great video and very informative. i have one question (well many). can you use a regular in place of the kong quick link?
Anything that’s climbing rated. I’d stay away from carabiners. Some guys use them but they’re not rated for side loading, usually.
Would putting tape or stealth strip on the kong quick link make it difficult when trying to pull it out of the tree at the end of the rappel?
Possibly. I can use without making noise so I left it as is. I wouldn’t want to add any extra friction. It pulls harder when retrieving the rope when it’s wet. Wet rope on wet stealth trip could be problematic.
What knot do you use to secure your quick link to your rappelling rope??

If you went around limbs going up does that affect the rope coming down?
Not if you pull the knot end and allow the tag end to pull through the branches.
What was the lil plastic clips you was using instead of gear ties
Ohm tether locker.
How would you get the rope down when there's limbs on the tree? Thats the biggest question that I have...
You pull the retrieve line (bow rope) that I connect to the tether before I rappel. It’s why you pull the not so the clean no of the rope goes through branches.
Can you add the link for the plastic clip that snaps on to your line at the quick link? I didn’t see it. I’ve been looking for something like that for a while, thanks.

just tie a loop in one end of your pull rope. run it through the riser and slide the loop over your stabilizer. Eliminates that second carabiner.
Or twice around cable and string then loop over cable bar
I can’t find the link to that little clip. What a great idea
Have you considered 2tc for a much lighter and simpler system?
I have, but haven't found the time to try it yet. I'm pretty quick and smooth with one stick. And using the Tethrd stick..it only weighs 1Lb. So I would't be saving a ton of weight. But I can see it's appeal.

Yes. That’s my set up.
Do you have a video of 2 sticking ??
It’s in the saddle hunting gear playlist

What's the quiver you're using?
Tight spot 3 arrow.
So you need a tree without branches basically or your repel rope wouldn’t come down?
No. That’s why you pull the rappel line by the end with the knot. It pulls the tag end through the branches.

Good video. But that aint for me lol
What rope attachment are you using there on your platform?
Int this video just the regular strap it comes with. I’ve used versa straps in the past and currently have versa links on it.
I’m also using a night eyez gear tie to attach it to my lineman’s rope so I can work hands free to get it strapped to the tree and cammed over.
